Oil dip stick broke on 2002 nissan sentra. with only about 60,000 miles on the nissan sentra, the plastic oil dip stick broke off inside the tube. the vehicle was taken to a nissan dealer for repairs at a an out outrageous cost of $380.63. checking the internet, i found numerous complaints for the same problem. it surely appears to be a design flaw with the dip stick and nissan should initiate a recall to replace existing oil sticks made of plastic. additional, nissan should reimburse the owners who have already paid for this repair.

had the same problem with the dipstick. I think the cheapest place i could find to do it was 150 dollars ....absurd! so i thought let me tinker with it first. went to the dealership and bought a brand new dipstick for 30 dollars. went online to seek advice and found bunch of forums on this situation. what i did was get some vice grips and went and began turning the shaft and just spinning it in clockwise motion. also to save your shaft from bending it all up and damage put a screwdriver down it.also while turning it apply pressure up in a pulling motion to pull it and slowly but surely it will come out then pull the old stick out and began putting the shaft back in. also your arms will be tired after this just a heads up.
