The Navigation (map) screen turns off when a phone call is placed or received. Infiniti went to great lengths to create a system that allows for both hands free Navigation and Phone use. However some ridiculous reason they opted to replace the Map screen with a screen that tells you your on the phone. This requires one to get lost if following the navigation or pull off to the side of the road until your off the phone. As far as I know this problem still exists in the 2009 model as well.
