I experienced the total and abrupt failure of the passenger side timing chain on my 2000 XJR Vanden Plas. This engine was a used replacement engine installed by the dealer after the complete failure of the original engine which failed with an unspecified problem within two weeks of purchase, again for the 2000 Vanden Plas. There does seem to be a design flaw here, and if one is in motion this can be a dangerous defect. The engine failed at start up.
