Whenever I fill the gas tank to full, the fuel gauge goes to empty and the low fuel warning comes on. What is going on?

When driving my 1998 chevrolet corvette for any period of time, the fuel gauge will fail (no reading) and the "check gauges" light will appear and the "low fuel" will show in the readout. view
