1999 BMW 528I User Comment / Complaint

I purchased a 1999 528i in immaculate condition just over 1 year ago. In that time I have had few problems. However, to my surprise for a vehicle of this quality, I too discovered that the driver's inside door handle is plastic and apparently very poorly designed. I have replaced it twice in 1 year. I'm very careful about it after the 1st time but in very cold weather it snapped right off in my hand a second time. I replaced it myself both times but this is a well documented design flaw. No satisfaction from BMW and the dealers, they love selling as many of these as they can and it's pricey if you cannot do it yourself. The part is 34 dollars and it breaks in the same place each time, in the area where it pivots on a metal pin. Come on BMW, step up and admit it's your problem, we gave you $45,000 for this "Ultimate Driving Machine" !
