3.6L engine failure due to faulty oil pump/bolt. Two dealers and 34 days in the shop, its back on the road. Found 38 other people with the same problem: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3462993 http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3451148 Following the instructions in the manual, I ran ~10 miles with impaired or no oil pump function to get to the nearest dealer. This has left me with significant unanswered questions about the longevity of my engine. VW did repair the engine under warranty - but what happens when the warranty runs out? Root cause appears to be a design "weakness" (defect?) in the engine with respect to the oil pump bolt.
