2004 SATURN ION User Comment / Complaint
2007-11-08 Esopus, NY
When the weather reaches freezing and car has been left off for about 6 to 8 hours it will not start again. i had the problem two years ago and saturn replaced the starter on the car and now the problem is back again this winter. i have checked several sites and this appears to be a big problem that should be address. replacing the starter every other winter is not an acceptable solution.

Yeah mine does the same too. It is really frustrating. in the 04 ion's they decided to make than less able to be stolen (bad past record) and so the grease in the ignition gets too cold in the winter and wont recognize your key, in turn shutting off your fuel pump. So all you have to do is wait 15 minutes and then try starting it again. It should fire up. Be sure to warm the key up really well, and leave 15 minutes before you would normally. Very inconvenient, I tell ya. Hope this is useful to you. =)

Oh, I forgot to say explain why wait 15 minutes before you attempt to start it again... After it doesn't start the first time the car thinks it is being stolen, like I said it shuts off the fuel pump. It takes 15 minutes for the computer to reset itself. If you attempt to start it again before the 15 minutes is up the computer will reset back to zero of the 15 minute count down. Which means you will be waiting even longer. But that is the reason behind the 15 minutes.
