1997 BMW 740 User Comment / Complaint

Hinge on liftgate glass fractured and broke. 2004 ford explorer. see 2003 nhsta recall 04v442000. liftgate glass hanging off and car unusable. metal fatigue on hinge/glass attach point on glass. could my car have received "older" defective parts from previous year as it has a manufacture date of 08/03? numerous previous model year problems with same part.  view

Looping to the ramp around 40 mph entering freeway, sunroof shattered due to the side metal frame that was attached/glued to the glass gave in and the sunroof was not even opened. brought to dealership, took pictures of the shattered sunroof and sent to manufacturer. next day, toyota said it was a road hazard. i told them how could that be if the side metal frame gave in and they know there was no evidence of any materials or rock that hits the sunroof.  view

I am the owner of a 2002 chevrolet malibu with just over 50,000 miles use. over the past 6 months the car has exhibited a failure to start. a little research shows that this is the result of a common failure of the gm passlock system. the temporary fix is to reset the system by turning the ignition key to the on position and waiting 10-15 minutes. needless to say, this is very annoying and inconvenient. at this point it doesn't represent an immediate safety issue, in that the ignition system isn't shutting down while the vehicle is moving. however, i am concerned that the inability to move the vehicle does represent a safety issue. my stepson uses this car to travel to work and to college. i don't want to have to worry about his safety if he can't start the car in an emergency situation, e.g., to avoid criminal activity. if this were a small thing to have repaired, i wouldn't complain so much, but my mechanic tells me it will cost nearly $500. as i said above, this problem is quite common--or so my internet research tells me. gm should recall this poorly designed mechanism. thank you. --ted kriner  view

Tl contact owns a 2006 hyundai elantra. when a passenger is seated in the passenger seat, the air bag light illuminates. the indicator reads, "air bag off". the contact reported the failure to the dealer twice. the first time, the dealer stated that it was repaired. the second time, the dealer stated that nothing could be done to resolve the failure. the current mileage is 21,000 and failure mileage was 10,000.  view

Tl contact owns an evenflo triumph child restraint. the contact's child is over one year old and weighs over 20 lbs. when the child is seated, three fingers can fit between the child and the belt. the strap cannot be adjusted any closer to the child. the child slides down due to the extra space and can slide her arms out. the manufacturer suggested jamming a piece of material in the space whenever the child is seated.  view

Tl contact owns a 2007 honda accord ex. the contact stated that the vehicle shakes while driving at any speed. the battery failed without warning and was replaced by the dealer. the contact stated that when she attempts to turn the vehicle, it feels as if it wants to go in the opposite direction. the dealer and manufacturer were unable to diagnose the cause of failure. the engine size and purchase date were unknown. the current mileage is 4,600 and failure mileage was 500.  view

Tl contact owns a 2004 pontiac gto. while driving 35 mph, the drivers side rear tire blew out. the failure did not cause any damage, but the dealer stated that the remaining three tires were also going to blow out. the tires displayed cords and an alignment was performed at 15,000 miles. the current and failure mileages were 23,000.  view

I own a 2001 chevrolet malibu, for the last 3 1/2 years i have had to replace the ignition cylinder 3 times. the theft light will come on and the car will shut down. the dealer told me that this was a common problem and gm won't do anything about it. so here i am again having to replace the part again.  view

I own a 2003 dodge ram 1500 2x4. clutch was replaced at 36000 miles, and motor was rebuild at 46000 miles, both times under warranty. each time i' had the oil changed there appeared to be a white substance building up on the oil cap as if it was condensation. i now have 88000 miles and have a "ticking. like a valve sticking, and continues to have this white substance. when it rains or i go through a puddle of water the belt starts to slip and all power is lost.  view

Tl contact owns a 2000 dodge stratus. the contact was informed by neighbors that her vehicle was on fire. the vehicle had been parked for only five minutes. the fire and police department extinguished the fire. the vehicle was towed back to her residence. the weather was approximately 75-78 degrees and cloudy. the # of cylinders was unknown. the current and failure mileages were 144,000.  view
