I have a 2004 gmc sierra ext. cab truck with about 70k miles on it. in the past week, the speedometer started reading higher than 120 mph while driving. i was only doing around 50 mph. when stopped it reads around 60 mph. i can start and turn off the engine several times and the speedometer needle will drop around 10 mph each time it starts. when it gets to 0, it will read fine for a little while and then gradually start climbing up past 120 mph again. 2nd complaint. around every 20k to 25k miles, i have to take the truck to the dealer and have a new steering column grease packing kit installed because the steering column starts knocking in the engine compartment. the first 2 times it was done was under warranty, now the warranty is up and it needs another packing done. the dealer wants me to pay for this one. this has been an ongoing problem since i bought the truck brand new.  view

Tl*- the contact stated that while driving his 2000 mercedes e320 (78000 failure mileage), he noticed a crack on the dashboard around the air bag, on the passenger seat. the vehicle was kept in a heated garage at about 60 degrees. the vehicle will be taken to the dealer this week for a prognosis.  view

Traveling down steep hill at 45 mph. attempted to apply brakes as i approached a stop sign at bottom of hill. braking system totally failed as a warning light read "braking system failure - service immediately" attempted to apply brake manually but did not have to strength to push the pedal hard enough to stop the car at that speed. i manually downshifted the car and it slowed to about 10 mph and i coasted it onto the shoulder of the main road and was then able to stop the car with the brake pedal manually. after turning the car off and restarting, the brake system worked again for a few minutes and again failed. apparently a computer malfunction.  view

Tl*- the latch strap from the base came apart from a safety 1st child safety seat. the contact lifted the child safety seat in order to transfer it to another vehicle and that's when the latch strap came off the child safety seat. the child safety seat was manufactured on 06/06/06.  view

My car, a 2004 vw passat glx automatic, has had a transmission problem since the day i bought it, when the salesperson told me it just needed to adjust to my driving style. months later, it was clear that it wasn't adjusting to my driving style. i took it in and it was "fixed." about may or june of 2006, it began to experience problems again, e.g., slamming, surging, delayed engagement, etc. i gave it some time, hoping it would "readjust," then took it in november of 2006, when the problems had become more acute. in a 4-5 minute test drive within a mile of the dealer, the most worrisome malfunctions could not be repeated. the service manager at the time said the minor issues were normal, and that i would have to "write a letter" to get the problem addressed. on saturday, 2/3/07, a transmission surge propelled my car over a speed bump and into the concrete, causing what i presumed was an oil leak. this transmission issue presents obvious hazards to people, in addition to property. as of today (2/6/07), the dealer is requesting that i pay approximately $900 to fix the oil pan so they can drive the car and address the transmission malfunction.  view

Purchased 2003 hyundai sonata brand new. defective radio replaced 1 month after purchase. battery dead after 2 years and 8,500 miles. no reason. battery replaced by myself. battery dead again in august of 2006. replaced again. battery dead again on december 30th 2006. had to have car towed to dealership. dealership stated the battery was bad. replaced again at my expense. i said the car should not be draining 3 batteries with less than 10,00 miles. dealership said it was because of a defective radio!?! and that i needed to replace the radio at my expense because the radio ran out of warranty 5 months prior! i believed that there was something electrical wrong with the car and i do not think i can trust the vehicle now.  view

Tl*- the contact stated that while driving his 2001 dodge ram 1500 (56000 failure mileage) at 3 mph over a hole on a dirt road, the contact heard a rubbing sound as if the tire was rubbing against the fender. he stopped the vehicle to take a look and found the drive shaft rubbing against the side of the gas tank. the contact proceeded to drive over the hole then the rubbing noise stopped. the contact thinks there is a design flaw in his vehicle because it is a 4 wheel drive and should be able to drive over holes without rubbing against the gas tank.  view

Tuesday feb 6th went to license branch in south bend in. was inside for approximately an hour and a half. walking to the equinox, used the unlock button. lights flashed, doors unlocked. got inside vehicle and had no power. vehicle would not turn over, doors would not lock or unlock. absolutely no power. there were no lights that had come on in the vehicle to indicate a low battery or any other warning condition prior. i called ligonier dealership where i purchased vehicle and was told to call a local dealership. gate chevrolet of south bend came and got the vehicle started with a booster, but said they had no idea what would have caused it or what the problem was. vehicle had 2177 miles on it. i drove home, pulled in the garage, turned the vehicle off, tried to restart and had no power to the vehicle at all. not even enough to turn on the dome light when i opened the door.  view

Tl*- the contact has a 2000 jeep grand cherokee with an odometer reading of 60000 miles. the contact stated that she received recall notice (98v095000) engine and engine cooling:cooling system:fan after she had the failure repaired. the contact submitted her information to the manufacturer to be reimbursed. the manufacturer declined to pay the reimbursement because they claim that it was not for the same repair. the contact has the repair order from the mechanic who fixed the vehicle which stated the work that was done which coincided with the recall notice failure.  view
