On 3 june, 2006, my daughter, while driving our 2006 ford pickup, met another vehicle on a narrow country road. the steep dropoff and nature of the road did not allow either driver to completely move over enough and the mirrors of the two trucks bumped. the mirror on the other truck, a chevrolet, broke away causing no injury to the driver and minimal damage to the vehicle. the mirror on my daughter's 2006 ford exploded sending shards of glass flying throughout the cab of the truck. my daughter required a trip to the emergency room, stitches, and follow up medical treatment. in addition to the flying glass, the mirror housing separated and one large section struck my daughter in the shoulder before coming to rest in the back seat of the extended cab truck while a smaller section of the housing landed in the truck's bed. both vehicles were traveling at about 30 mph and were slowing when they met. the chevrolet mirror detached with no injury and minimal damage. the ford mirror caused physical injury and over a $1000 in damages to the truck. there is obviously a vast difference in the design of the ford and chevy mirrors which caused this dangerous situation and harmed the ford's driver. pictures, medical records, and a statement were sent to ford but they refuse to acknowledge any problem with the design and refuse to make any comment on this situation. they have also refused to return the documents and pictures which i have submitted. we own 2005 and 2006 ford trucks and are now afraid to drive them with the windows open for fear of injury from possible flying glass in the event of an accident.  view

Dt: the contact stated while driving 45-50 mph the vehicle began to shake suddenly and then started to shake violently. there was a burning smell and the vehicle was pulled over. it was towed to the dealer who determined there was a fishing line wrapped around the brake pads, rotor and drum which needed to be removed. a month and a half later while traveling 45-50mph, the vehicle began to shake and there was a burning smell. the vehicle was towed to the dealer who could not duplicate the problem. also, while driving at low speeds with the accelerater pedal depressed the vehicle accelerates without effort. to control the speed the brake pedal has to be depressed however the back wheels begin to spin without gripping and lunges forward. to make the vehicle stop the ignition has to be turned off. there is a recall #89v234000 pertaining to fuel throttle linkages and control. the vin is not included in the recall due to the vin.  view

I had a near wreck in my 2003 f250 super duty crew cab, larriat trim package when the overhead console became dislodged from the roof of the cab, and fell into the interior of the cab landing at my feet, and interfering with the gas and brake pedals. no fire or wreck, but certainly a near miss. i am aware that the hard plastic molding around the overhead console is very brittle, and can crack and become dislodged in not just my truck, but many other people that i have questioned regarding this matter. i was even informed by a local dealership that they cannot keep this item in stock in their parts department because everyone's overhead consoles are breaking. this is a rather large piece of plastic that can interfere with the drivers ability to control the vehicle, and is a saftey matter that should be addressed. obviously the particular type of plastic used to mold this console is not appropriate, and should be replaced with a more plyable, and less brittle material, or it should be better secured to the roof of the vehicle to avoid complaints such as this.  view

I have a concern about what happened last week to my tires. all four tires went bad within a couple of weeks of each other. i began to feel bumping on the road, and within 2 weeks it was bad enough to take the car in to the ford shop. i was shown where each tire had begun to separate and get warped. i could feel the up-and-down bumpiness in the tires with my own hand when they showed it to me. this was on all the tires. one was so bad it looked like a bubble. these tires only had 53,800 miles on them; on a new car i got through military overseas car sales in april 2000. i have had all the regular servicing/rotation/checks and my husband routinely checked the pressures. my concern is that these all had the same lot number - we checked them to be sure. the a3x844p0400 number was on all of them. the report reads "all 4 tires are worn out - belt separated." the ford shop personnel said this is a very rare occurrence and they felt it was worth reporting. if someone else has these tires and and accident results from this separation, it would not be good. therefore, i am reporting my event so that if there are others, you may take appropriate actions to prevent injuries/damages. i will also send a copy of this note to dot and mil overseas sales. i had to replace all four tires @ a cost of $717.91 thank you for your attention. linda shiraishi 1760 150th ave san leandro ca 94578.  view

Speedometer started registering incorrect speed, then worked sporadically and sometimes not at all. car was taken to the dealership to have it looked at. they determined that the whole instrument panel console needed to be replaced (not just the speedometer). the dealership sent the old instrument panel to the parts supplier and received a new instrument panel, then installed it. they speculated that it might have been because of a bad ground in the system. unsure whether or not old part is available.  view

The transmission went out at under 34,000 miles. although i was still under warranty i was charged $100 for something that i do remember being a defect that i had to bring into the dealership for them to repair within the first 2 months i had the vehicle. why then must i pay for a known defect?  view

2003 sierra steering mechanism makes a noise. the consumer was told when the part in the steering was replaced under warranty, someone placed it on too tight and now the part was out of shape. the mechanic also stated that the part would have to be lubricated often because there were no grease fittings on it. updated. 07/21/06.  view
