1988 STERLING 825SL User Comment / Complaint

My speedometer needle started to stick on a higher speed and not come down. it would return to zero if i started and stopped the engine multiple times. this condition gradually worsened until it was stuck on "pegged", even when parked. i had no idea how fast i was going. also, the speed control would not engage. i had to stop the vehicle and turn off the engine, then proceed before it would work again. i took it to the dealer for the speedometer. they were aware of the speedometer problem and one person insinuated it was a very common problem. they replace the "cluster" (?). they would not allow me to have the old parts and charged me $450.00! i speak for myself and others with this problem,"we need help!"  view

Clunking noise in front suspension. tires wearing unevenly. inspection by mechanic by finds worn upper ball joints on my 2003 dodge durango. joints have no lubrication and have corrosion because of this. i fear the excessive wear in the upper ball joint might cause it to separate which would result in the loss of control over my vehicle. dodge already has a recall on this defect but my durango was not included. all durangos with this problem should be included. it's a safety thing!!!  view

Dt*: the contact stated in a heavy rain, the windshield wipers dislodged and locked up. the dealership determined this was a safety feature, when there is too much pressure on the wipers, the motor locks up to prevent the motor from overheating. the dealership reset the wipers.  view

Dt*: the contact stated while driving speeds of 5mph or less in stop and go traffic, there was a delayed acceleration followed by a sudden acceleration forward. the vehicle was seen by an authorized dealer. a factory representative inspected the vehicle and reprogrammed the electronic control module.  view

Dt: consumer's wife was driving with her 2 little girls. stopped at a red light brakes failed and steering locked up. went off the road into a parking lot and hit tree. the vehicle was towed and the mechanic said there were no brakes in the van. van. updated 3/20/2006 -  view

Dt*: the contact stated gasoline fumes were detected inside the vehicle. upon inspection, it was determined the fuel line was corroded. the fuel line was replaced. updated 03/17/06.  view

Dt: contact stated while stopping at a stop light heard a loud pop. the vehicle was taken to a local dealership ,where they found the engine head needed to be replaced because the spark plug blew out of the engine. the repairs will be made at the contact's expense. updated 03/20/06.  view

Dt*: the contact stated a piece of the dashboard sticks out, causing a glare on the windshield. the manufacturer was contacted. updated 03/20/06.  view
