Noticeable looseness and "clunk" in steering when turning and/or accelerating from a stop or at low speed. car had nearly 50,000 miles. how much longer before a loss of steering could occur?  view

Headlights are no longer effective. they do not put out enough light to properly be driven with at night. due to this issue i can no longer drive the vehicle safely at night. i have tried new bulbs, higher power bulbs, and polishing the plastic lenses all to no avail.  view

2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo purchased new in april 2001. at 66,842 miles the overdrive snap ring broke into 3 pieces and wedged into the park pawl. when the vehicle was put into park, it would roll. the transmission had to be reworked with all new seals and gaskets and the damaged overdrive components had to be replaced. although i found documentation online that stated the transmission warranty had been extended to 70,000 miles, chrysler would not even listen to my complaint. their customer service rep actually hung up on me when i called. the total bill was $1,863.78. the dealership also found a defective governor pressure sensor which was replaced under warranty. this problem had occurred before. it caused the vehicle not to start because the governor sensor detected the vehicle was in gear when it was actually in park. i've also had constant problems with the brakes and rotors. have already spent about $1,000 on those and the repairs only last for about 10,000 to 20,000 miles. the front end shakes uncontrollably when braking above 35 mph which is very dangerous when meeting oncoming traffic. if you can't control the front end, it is very easy to crash right into an oncoming vehicle. i've spoken to several jeep owners and read many complaints online about the same problems i've had. i have engaged an attorney and we will be notifying chrysler of a lawsuit in the very near future.  view

2003 honda element rear brakes are totally shot needing new pads, rotors etc. and honda is blaming "rust buildup," and saying that it is our fault for not servicing the brakes. the brakes have been inspected each time the oil has been changed or tires rotated. honda's contention that the brakes should be "taken apart and cleaned due to "severe conditions" is ridiculous. we do live in northeastern ohio but even the owners manual says driving in severe conditions occasionally doesn't necessarily put you in that category. i have never heard of any vehicle that the brakes needed to be disassembled and cleaned every 10,000 miles. cost to repair is $450.00. in addition, my wife called the dealership twice, first time was about a year and a half ago with complaints about brake noise and was told both times to go out and "jam on the brakes hard to release dirt buildup on the brakes." at no time was she ever advised to bring the car in for inspection.  view

My 93 year old aunt paid $950.00 to have the manifold repaired 8/6/04 on her 1997 mercury, and now ford does not want to pay her, what a bunch of crap. my uncle came back from wwii bought a new ford or mercury every 2-3 years for 50 years, what gratitude. i see why ford and gm is going down the tubes. it excluded cars that were more than 7 years old when they experienced manifold failure. based upon that 7-year period, we believe that all 1996 and 1997 cars ( and many 1998's ) that failed in 2004 - 2005 (approx.) or haven't yet failed, were denied coverage. the concept adopted in the settlement appeared to be that "civilians" should not get warranty coverage longer than the 7 years that was given to those cars covered by the 1999 owner notification program. ( one of the lawyers told us that they settled for the 7-year coverage because, during a court hearing, the judge had said that she was not likely to grant coverage longer than what the "fleets" got. )  view

I was driving my 1999 volvo v70 on the highway, and it constantly accelerates and decelerates on its own with no action done by me. in one case it accelerated to the point in which i lost control and caused an accident. vehicle is in the process of having the etm replaced at the dealership at a cost of 1000.00 to me because it is outside of warranty coverage.  view

I arrived back from taking my son to the park at approximately 6:00pm, watched tv and then fired up the grill around 7:45pm. i came back in the house and heard a loud noise. i yelled upstairs to my husband and asked if he had heard the noise, he yelled back and said, call 911 your truck is on fire. he immediately began to fight the fire with two fire extinguishers and the water hose. we were scared as the fire department had not yet arrived and we were worried it was going to blow up as it was only approximately 7 feet from the house. the fire department showed us the area in which the fire started which was under the hood on the driver's side, however, deemed it indeterminable. i was in shock that this occurred as i only had one payment left to payoff the loan. i researched and found out that the same vehicles that were being recalled by ford for a faulty cruise control switch was also used on my 1998, however, had not been recalled. after much research, i have found there are several other vehicles that are the same year as mine were catching on fire for no apparent reason without warning. there have been recalls, however, not on my particular vehicle. ford sent me a form letter that was addressed to my husband with our address, however, the letter states dear ms. x. (a true indication of their concern for my issue) i am angered that there have been so many vehicles that have burst into flames without warning, burned down cars and homes and lives lost and ford believes they have no responsibility. could they have not issued a consumer alert for all vehicles and at least afforded the consumer the opportunity to make a decision to pay $20 to replace this part? i will be paying to have a thorough investigation done to prove to ford that they are in fact responsible and will take this as far as i have to. someone needs to investigate the number of complaints and do something to inform the public of this hazard and potentially save someone's life.  view

No events leading up to incident. whenever it rains, water leaks onto the front passenger side floorboard. water also leaks onto blower motor and resistor causing failure. caused by a manufacturer design flaw in a plastic cowling in engine compartment.  view

Dt*: the contact stated while driving various speeds, there was a pronounced vibration within the chassis. the vehicle was taken to the dealer whom attributed the vibration to the design. after several inspections by the dealer, the driveshaft was removed in an effort to decrease the vibration. this repair effort worsened the vibration and the driveshaft was placed back onto vehicle. afterwards, the contact was driving 5mph and the driveshaft disengaged falling from the axle pocket onto the ground. the vehicle was towed to the dealer to await further inspection.  view
