LOTUS ESPRIT User Comment / Complaint

(1) i drive approximately 60 miles per day. vehicle is used primarily for driving to work and transporting children to school & activities. (2) on 12/6/05, i returned vehicle to dealership for 2nd time due to air bag warning light illuminating. (3) per dealer description: performed self test on rcm module koeo b1998. pinpoint test found high resistance in side air bag harness. replaced connector under passenger seat per tsb 04-26-12. cleared code & retest okay.  view

Seat belt on drivers side does not clip tightly when attempting to buckle.  view

My 1999 dodge ram truck dashboard had shattered/cracked in many locations. i had to replace it at my cost. i was of concern of its interference with my air bag deployment. so i had it replaced. the plastic material used on the dodge trucks dries out and becomes brittle . those saving people within nhtsa would just make some simple observation while stopping at a red light or stopping sign driving to work they would notice the many damaged dodge truck dashboards.  view

On second day of ownership i heard a very loud metal cracking sound while sitting in the car preparing to drive. car was not started or moving). upon inspection there was no visible defect. about a week later i had an identical experience. this time i noticed a crack in the body seam located on the driver's side door. the door would no longer close properly , and i immediately scheduled a repair appointment. the dealership adjusted the door and assured me that the crack in the frame was only cosmetic. the crack was filled and painted and seems to be holding, but there is a leak in the door that leaves water on the door sill plate every time it rains or i wash the car. i am in the process of having additional repairs for that now.  view

2005 toyota prius went into a sudden engine stalling mode. i do realize that toyota has a recall on such vehicles, but the toyota dealership that i took it to, the same place where i bought the vehicle, that had a "prius expert" has been diagnosing this problem for a day with no answers / anticipated fix date. this is annoying to say the least, as toyota does not seem to have taken the time to train it's dealerships on their own recall information. i could steer and operate the vehicle in electric only mode. pressing the power key would not power off the car. hence the battery started to drain. opening the passenger door and pressing the power key, seemed to have been able to stop the car, not sure whether this was timing, or some coincidence. starting the car again, made the gasoline engine come on for the purpose of replenishing the charge for the battery, with the dash still displaying the same issues. also, pressing the accelerator again, does not raise the rpm of the gasoline engine. its stalling continues after a power cycle.  view

At 37720 miles on 2002 chevrolet 4x4 pickup. took vehicle to dealer for safety inspection and service to gm dealership. was informed that vehicle would not pass inspection due to brake rotors and pads being rusted and worn out. this was in march 2005. in october 2005 received recall notice relating to severe corrosion between front hub/bearing and speed sensor. filled for a claim reimbursement due to the fact that all parts were inter related. also even the repair invoice stated worn out/rusted. was informed that no reimbursement would be paid.  view

Vehicle automatically shifted into lowest gear while driving, causing a dangerous condition, slowing the vehicle substantially in traffic. vehicle refused to shift into higher gear or reverse. towed to the dealership, who replaced shifter mechanism due to electronic failure, caused by spills. observation of the part showed no residue from any liquid. dealership said it happened all the time because the cup holder was right above the circuit board in the console and it was not sealed. stated the replacement part installed was improved to prevent this from happening again.  view

Slow air loss noticed on left front wheel. upon inspection the wheel was cracked. cf wheel stamping.  view

Dt*: the contact stated while driving the vehicle noises could be heard coming from the engine. the vehicle was driven for a period of time before the vehicle was taken to a dealership. diagnostics test were performed on the vehicle and the problem could not be duplicated. the vehicle was driven for one year before the engine failed; the vehicle is now parked without repairs being made. the manufacturer has not been contacted.  view
