1997 INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER 4700 User Comment / Complaint

At app. 32,000 miles i had my brakes checked and needed to replace 2 rotors. the vehicle is a 2003 impala, not driven in heavy traffic, the terrain is flat, mild winters with little road salt exposure. old parts not available.  view

Dt*: the contact stated while driving, there was slight vibration in the rear of the vehicle. while the vehicle was pulled into the emergency lane for inspection the right rear tire rolled onto the highway. the sidewall completely disinterested and the tire came off the rim. the psi was at 30 for highway use, but the manufacturer recommended psi of 40. there were no obvious road hazards that could have caused the failure. the tire was a toyo, 22535zr18. the tire has not been replaced due to the damage the rim sustained.  view

2003 audi a6 tire sidewall is thin. the consumer stated there is a structural problem with the tire. during parking, if the tire touches the curb; the tire fails.  view

Dt*: the contact states there is nhtsa recall campaign 05v379000 regarding the anti lock brakes. the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however, it is not included in the recall due to the vin.  view

Dt*: the contact stated the steering column locked causing an accident. prior to the accident the steering column locked twice for about three seconds each time. three minutes later, while entering a curve, the steering column locked and the contact lost control of the vehicle, and it hit a concrete barricade on the left side , causing the vehicle to bounce back onto the road and hitting the concrete barricade a second time. the vehicle sustained damage to the left side quarter panel. the fire department arrived and found part of the steering column lying on the road about 25 feet before the crash site. the part was not retrieved due to the traffic. the driver and passenger both were wearing seat belts and sustained no injuries. a police report was taken.  view

Brake pads worn down to damage rotors with no warning at 30k miles. new pads and rotor and still hear noise from right front. black brake dust on outside hub caps started appearing at 3k miles, mechanics said it's normal. mechanic hears noise but maintains it is not indicative of a problem. two tires already replaced due to wear. tire sensors worked sometimes for flats.  view

On three (3) separate occasions, the mechanical linkage for the windshield wipers have failed, and have been replaced at the dealership. fortunately, this has never occurred during highway driving. in all cases, the weather conditions were well above freezing, so ice/snow was not a factor. "incident date" is the most recent of the three.  view

At 86,000 miles, diesel fuel injection pump failed without warning while driving causing engine to quit running leading to a loss of power steering and assisted brake control. i was able to coast the truck to the side of the road and out of the flow of traffic with great difficulty before coming to a stop. truck had to be towed from the side of the highway, and failed injection pump was replaced at my expense. failed bosch vp44 diesel fuel injection pump was returned as a core.  view
