The wheel covers on my 2003 hyundai sonata are moving on the rims of my tires causing the tire valve stems to flatten and eventually wear through causing sudden tire failure. i have had two (2) sudden tire valve failures since purchasing four new uniroyal tiger paw 205/65r15 tires from b.j.'s wholesale club on may 7. 2005. the tires i bought were the exact size specified for my car in the b'j's tire catalog and my owner's manual. the hyundai dealer tried putting on new wheel covers but that didn't help. later they said that the tires were sticking out too far over the rims, causing them to be in contact with the wheel cover, which caused the wheel covers to move and flatten the valve stems. they acknowledged that the tires were the right size but said they were somehow different from the tires that came with the car. there is nothing in the hyundai owner's manual which specifies any particular tire or brand of tire, or which states that certain tires cannot be used. the only specification is the size, which is 205/65r15, exactly what i purchased. the problem is ongoing. at the dealer's suggestion, i am driving without the wheel covers. even if i buy another set of tires, how do i know they won't cause the same problem? hyundai admitted that they are aware of the this problem but would not take responsibility.  view

My transmission shift lever would not move. i called for an assistance, i was told my shifting cable would not moved and probably the cable was broke. i'd asked the towing person to bring my ford expedition ford dealer in bellflower. i search the internet for relative issues regarding my problem was identical to nhsta recall id # 97v17100 and 97v14700. i believe that this is still on going problem with ford expedition since 1997 as indicated to the recall number date. i asked for the old part (shifting cable assembly so i could evaluate what when wrong. i've noticed that steel braided cable was used and it was enclosed in a very strong plastic protection. but the cable break inside the casing. i only have 55,000 miles. i'd also noticed that i could now easily changed or shift the shifting lever with very light movement of my hand unlike when i'd first got my expedition back in april 2002. i'd remember that most of the time i have to really pulled it hard just to shift the lever, back then i thought that was normal but after the shifting cable was replaced i could changed the gear position with just my finger and really very light pressure. so. my conclusive to the issue was 1) ford personnel does not pay attention on proper installation of this shifting cable 2) ford use inferior or substandard part. the movement of the sleeve and the location of the bracket that holds the assembly close to the shifting level will contribute to the problem. i believed ford should look further on this problem because they have this since 1997 i still have the old part and it will be available for further investigation. the newly installed cable seems to be doing its purpose because with just a light pressure i could change the gear position unlike the original cable assembly that i really have to pull hard and push hard to change gear position.  view

The incident happened as i was driving home in my 2000 ford taurus sel on the illinois toll road on 12/20/2005 using cruise control in extremely cold weather (8-11 degrees). i drove several miles, and then exited the expressway when suddenly the accelerator stuck at about 50-55 miles per hour. the accelerator pedal would not release. i drove the car for nearly 2 miles trying to decide what to do, and was unable to stop the car completely. finally, near my home, in an open, less-traveled area, i tried to stop, but the engine continued to race, and the car jumped forward. i proceeded through the red light, pulled over to the side and flipped the key to the off position, which stopped the car. i immediately lost all steering capability and came to a stop. i tried to restart the vehicle, but the engine revved to 4000 rpm and i immediately turned the car off. after trying this twice, and tapping the pedal heavily to try to release the stuck accelerator, i proceeded to open the hood with the car off. i tried to find the accelerator cable in the cold (now 4 degrees) and dark. after searching for approximately 15 minutes, i again tried to start the car and it started normally. i was then able to drive home cautiously. tomorrow i will contact my ford vehicle for service. this has happened a few times recently, but it never stuck for more than a few seconds. however, this incident was not only extremely frightening and dangerous, but also could have potentially damaged the engine and brakes. the nhtsa must recall these vehicles immediately, as this is an extremely dangerous situation!! i am lucky that i was driving at approximately 2:30 in the morning with little traffic, with no other passengers in the vehicle, and that the brakes were able to slow the vehicle. otherwise, this could have been a potentially deadly situation for myself and other motorists.  view

Very excessive fast idle speed in my 2005 sequoia. i too owned a previous sequoia (2000) model and there is no comparison. it can take anywhere from 4 or more minutes to warm up the engine before there is any noticeable change in its idle. in fact, i can idle out of my subdivision without hitting the accelerator. this should not be. you can also hear an increase in its idle if you turn on the vehicles heater. the engine even revs more. you no longer can get the this vehicle, start it, and let it warm up 2 or 3 minutes and put it in drive or reverse. getting in a cold vehicle after a packer's game, you must sit there and wait....and wait....and wait while all of the other parked (and cold) vehicles have left the parking lot. if you do not let the vehicle warm up a good 5 mins. you also have problems getting the vehicle to shift gears. you can be giving it gas and it is not going no where. it gives you the feeling like your transmission is slipping and/or not engaging. i have taken the vehicle back to the dealership and they tell me that this is 'normal'. i have been driving for many a year and i know that this is not normal. they also tell me that they cannot adjust its idle because of emission requirements. i did not have one problem with my previous sequoia !, and if i was shopping around for another suv now and having this major problem in my 2005, i'd be shopping elsewhere.  view

I just bought a 2003 honda accord coupe ex about 3 weeks ago. i got a great deal on the car. it was a honda certified car which means it had been 150 point inspected before i bought it. the car has just over 60k miles. the transmission gave out this past weekend after only 3 weeks. was this problem missed in the 150 point inspection....i think so. i checked by 150 point inspection paper after the problem occurred. it seems that the transmission leak box was not ever checked. they must have left that part out. which means the honda was not certified, and which also means that it was false advertisement to the consumer that this was a honda certified car. what are my rights as an angry individual. i was basically lied to in order to get the sell. thankfully, i bought the extended warranty and the fix is in works now. after reading other people's horror stories with their transmission, i would like to file a complaint against both the dealership and honda as a company. i am very angry that after 3 weeks of having my car, it is in the shop to be fixed. i was lied to and deceived. if there is anything that i can do as an individual to prevent this to happening to someone else then i will by all means do so. thanks for your help and consideration in this matter.  view

I purchased a new mercury montego premier with a 6 speed electronic automatic transmission. it is an excellent vehicle with the exception that while traveling down steep grades there is no way to downshift to a lower gear to slow the vehicle down. i have to rely on the brakes only and they overheat on long mountainous grades. some are 7% to 9.5% grades in weatern n.c. ,northern ga. , and eastern tn. with no way of going to a lower gear to help slow the vehicle down , the brakes take extreme abuse and could fail from overheating. i can only imagine living in the western states and having this problem. on a recent trip, my spoke aluminum wheels were black with residue from brake dust. i feel that people who are not accustomed to driving in mountainous terrain could have a huge problem where i live and travel a lot. thanks for your time.  view

Dt: the contact complained about multiple problems. while driving at 40 mph on a damp road the driver's side wheel came off. he was able to steer the vehicle safely to the curb. the vehicle was towed to a mechanic, who replaced the upper ball joint on the driver's side and realigned the wheels. later, he heard a grinding noise coming from the front of the vehicle. the mechanic determined that the other ball joints needed to be replaced. however, they have not been replaced. also, the windshield fogged up. the mechanic stated the heater core broke and the coolant was leaking. the heater core was replaced. n addition, the vehicle had problems starting. the mechanic had to replace the fuel pump and fuel injector. the starting problem has not returned.  view

2000 infiniti i30 service engine soon came on. dealer diagnosed and concluded that the ignition coils went bad and need to replace all 6 of them. the car had only 31753 miles on it. considering the low mileage, it is too early for the coils to go bad. dealer said it is not covered under warranty (federal emissions warranty was still valid) and had to pay 1000 dollars for the job.  view

Anti-lock braking system failure. pump on anti-lock braking system continues to run causing pump failure unless customer disconnect fuse at panel. upon disconnecting fuse the anti-lock braking system is useless as is the traction control feature. all lights, abs, traction assist, brake become illuminated on dash board. i feel this is a hazardous condition due to the driver not having the anti-lock brakes or traction assist. i've talked with numerous owners of the same type vehicle and they all have the same complaints. the only repair is to replace the electronic brake control module (ebcm) that is mounted to the top of the abs pump. gm is charging in the ballpark of $700-$900 for this part and they are aware of the problem.  view

Fords recall of their 3.8 v6 motor is a travesty that they can get away with it! they knew the motor was bad, put out a recall with a mileage limit (100,000), but then also a time limit (7 years)! how about a car that is not driven the 100k, and gets the problem? the assumption is that if one goes 100k, then they got some value out of it! therefore ford did their job! but when one pays good money for their screw up, and the problem happens, and did not do 100k, then the purchaser did not get some value out of it! ford should stick to the 100k, and not the time limit! the sob's have once again, gotten away with a lazyass design, and were able to throw a lame excuse and get away with it! i'd like to know, who and how to sue! some have had success, and i'd like to know how they did!  view

I have a 2005 avalon and there is a hesitation between the pushing of the brake pedal and the actual braking of the car, the same is true for the gas pedal. the service manager at the dealership went on a test drive with me and told me that these actions were found in other toyota products and there was not yet a fix on them. i had taken the car back three times and on the final repair trip the service department wrote that the car was to manufacturer specs. i have filed a complaint with toyota and have not received a response as of yet.  view

While driving my jeep liberty on the freeway i suddenly heard a loud clanking noise. at about the same time i realized my engine was dead and i coasted off of the freeway. my jeep would not restart and i had to have assistance to push it to a gas station. i called a towing company and had it towed to a jeep dealership where i was treated very rudely and horribly over a 3 to 4 week period where they requested numerous oil change receipts and berated me over the phone each time i called to check the progress of my vehicle. after providing them with my maintenance records chrysler still had the audacity to turn down the claim. i have changed the oil every 3 thousand miles with receipts to prove it. they are accusing me faulty maintenance and refuse to fix the vehicle. my vehicle has 41,000 miles on it and i have a 70,000 mile warranty. according to chrysler they are not responsible for it. how do they get away with this?  view

My car is a 2000 ford taurus (vin number is 1fafp55ugya213531). i have the same problem as the nhtsa campaign id number 01v075000. the headlamp switch knob is fractured and does not correctly attach to the headlamp switch. i went to the dealership in macon, ga, and was told that this specific recall does not apply to my vin number, even though i have the same make, model, and year car. my only option the dealership gave me was to pay $80 to install a complete new light switch, even though all i need is a new knob. i was told that the knob is not sold as a separate part, only as a complete new switch. i would like this recall extended to cars like mine. this causes difficulty for me to turn on and off the headlights.  view

I have had many shifting problems with my 2000 lincoln ls. i have had it looked at by dealers and have been told many different reasons why i am having the shifting problems. one dealer told me it was a computer glitch and cannot be fixed. so far i have had my computer reset, fuel filter changed, ignition coils and igniters changed, fuel injectors cleaned or something like that and some shifting sensor or transmission sensor changed. with all this maintenance done i still have a engine light illuminated on my dash and my car still shifts when it feels like it. many times when i need to accelerate it pauses and seems to not be able to find gears. the most scary incident was while driving on the freeway on december 3, 2005 my 2000 lincoln ls's shifting became erratic sputtered and then the car turned off. while going about 65 miles per hour i was left with no power steering and had to pull to the side of the road nearly being rear ended by a truck. i have yet to have an accident but fear that with this erratic shifting it might happen. i will pay whatever it takes to have this problem fixed once and for all. i have no choice but to drive this car to and from work because it is my only means of transportation. i love my lincoln and this is my second one my first was a 2001 and it had the same shifting problems but not as bad as this one. my lincoln is not the only one with these problems i am a member of 4 lincoln clubs on line and have heard many horror stories about lincoln ls's erratic shifting. not only is this problem deemed unfixable by my dealership. many other lincoln dealerships have given the same run around to members of the lincoln clubs that i am a member of. llsoc is one of the clubs that i am a member of.  view

When i would place the automatic transmission in reverse on my 1997 chrysler concorde the gas pedal would stick and accelerate at a rapid rate. the only way that i could stop the acceleration was by placing both on the brake and turning the key off. dave dennis chrysler dealer in dayton, oh., verified this. they found that the cradle bushings were bad which caused the motor to move and hit the throttle which caused the motor to rev. up in gear. they replaced the cradle bushings and i have had no trouble since. i consider this to be a safety issue. the mechanic at the chrysler dealer stated that worn cradle bushings were a common problem with k frames used on chryslers. i can't be the only person who has experienced this problem due to cradle bushings wear.  view

The abs antilock brake system in my 1998 volvo s70 failed. the dashboard light indicated abs & traction control (tracs) failure. normal non-abs braking remained. research on several volvo owners web sites (such as brickboard: http://www.brickboard.com/awd/?model=s70) showed systemic failure of the abs control module volvo part # 9162675 due to printed circuit board solder cracking after 6 years. the car was tested by a volvo dealer confirming abs control module failedure. volvo charges a total $650 to replace the unit. the "brickboard" owners group suggested a repair shop in california that resolders the circuit board, replaces and upgrades failed components, tests & returns it for $130 plus shipping. we had the old board repaired, since a new exact replacement board from volvo would have the same failure after another 5 years. the repaired abs control unit has been reinstalled & the car now works properly, with full abs and tracs control. this is not the first printed circuit failure from volvo. our 1993 volvo 940 turbo had two board failures: 1, the relay base board solder cracked, and resulted in the overdrive relay not working; 2, cruise control operated erratically, due to bad board solder. both of these boards were repaired by our local service shop. we are very concerned that two critical safety elements - the abs system and traction control - are failing in a relatively short period of time, & because of a failure of what should be a simple assembly of tested parts. further, we are most disturbed that volvo's remedy is a very expensive replacement, with the same failure prone part. worse, although we opted for a complete repair, there are owners who cannot afford the fix. these will be driving with far less braking and control than the car is capable of providing.  view

Without warning, my 2003 passat stalled in the middle of a very busy intersection and would not start again. thankfully the police were quick to arrive and helped direct traffic so that i could be pushed off the road. the car was towed and the vw dealer diagnosed the problem as a prematurely failed fuel pump. they replaced the fuel pump free of charge, but they are denying that there is a problem or defect across the board. i have read many reports of other vw passat owners having similar problems. this could be a dangerous failure depending on when the pump stops working (there are no warning signs), and i think vw should address this.  view
