1997 INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER 4700 User Comment / Complaint

I gave my car a tune up at a family friends shop spark plug broke so replaced it with a bosh platinum 4 which was all the local auto part had 6 months latter my car blows a plug out of the opposite side of the engine which had the original plug and i tow it back to the dealership the warranty refuses to fix it because after market plug on the other side and ford knows they have defective head and 4.6lt engines built fr:01-03 but refuse to fix it or even test it to see if it was defective since the after market plag was on the other side and the engine failed due to unknown reasons on the side with the original plugs this applies to all vehicle from ford with 4.6lt 2v engines more info found here http://www.blueovalnews.com/2003/powertrain/4.6l.enginetick.t31604.htm (per consumer call (no smoke or flames); changed fire from yes to no - c. rose 11/16/05  view

1. window regulator faulty: 1st incident occurred 9/2003 at 40,000 mi; driver window fell down due to faulty window regulator. although warranty had expired, manufacture replaced, charged me $50 deductible. 2nd incident occurred 11/05 at 79,700 mi.; front passing window, it fell down due to faulty window regulator. dealer stated known problem, as did daimler chrysler, but told me i would have to file a complaint with nhtsa. was told that is what extended warranty is for. (they apparently do not back their product and are not quick to resolve known defects.) 2. 12/2004 transmission problems (clutch ring): car would not go in reverse; shifting rough. was told known problem and was told i was lucky that it wasn't the whole transmission. repairs approximately $600. 3. brake problems: warped rotors/calipers/pads replaced at 24,000. i am currently on 3rd set of brakes (just now have 80,000 mi on car). last set did not last a year. premature warping, squeaking brakes, rattling car, steering wheel, just like the other complaints listed at nhtsa. have had a few near accidents due to the shaking. replaced at my expense except for the 24,000 mi job. 4. emissions code on check engine light: due to faulty gas cap. dealer charged me $100 for the diagnostics, and almost 18 for a gas cap. i have never heard of such a think, and feel it is something the mfg should be responsible for since it is an environmental issue. again, was told i was lucky that it was only a gas cap?? why should i feel lucky when i spend $28,000 for a car that has known issues with the model and the mfg acts as if they didn't care, and tells me i should pay $2500 for an extended warranty. no, they should fix the known problems. we pay that much under the misconception that they stand by their product. as a result, i have problems with tires wearing out sooner than they should and front end alignment issues.  view

Turn signals and emergency flasher do not always work. turn signals may work fine for days then suddenly not work. or, turn signals may work for awhile while driving, then stop working suddenly.  view

While driving at night 2001 buick lesabre lights malfunction. (11/16/05) the lights would go dim.  view

After having a 2005 toyota sequioa serviced, the consumer found that there was only one lug nut left in the vehicle. (11/16/05)  view

Dash warping, all models do that after time (3 months or less) causes defrost vents to blow air in an improper location replacement of dash is only fix, but will warp again after replacement.  view

I have had multiple problems since i purchased the car in 10/99. i have had the sun roof replaced once and now needs it again for the same reason; the track broke ($1000 to fix, $2000 if i go to the dealer). the ignition switch has been changed twice because it sticks (it need to be changed again). in 2/00 it started: whenever the car got cold, the car would either not turn on or would just shut down while i was driving. the car was brought to the dealer multiple times for the same problem. he changed numerous parts but was unable to resolve the issue, until a 2004 recall for something to do with the fuel system. about three years ago the engine light came on at which time the dealer replaced the catalytic converter. a few weeks later the engine light came on again at which time the dealer told me it was the head gasket. that, i had replaced by an independent mechanic and then still had to bring it back to the dealer to have the catalytic converter done a second time, and to have the computer reset to have the engine light shut off. anytime i have work done on the car, even just maintenance, the check coolant light or the engine light comes on and i have to bring it to the dealer to have it shut off. in 9/05 the coolant light illuminated and a day later the engine light came on, i brought the car to an independent mechanic who changed the overflow tank because he believed it to be a bad sensor. after fixing that, the engine light would not go off as well as one of my brake lights. he did multiple tests and determined that it is something electrical, unfortunately he could not pinpoint the exact cause of the electrical problem. for some reason those lights have gone off but i expect them come back on soon.  view

Dt: the consumer stated the brake line failed and rusted in two. the other two lines were like brand new. the one that was rusted must be made out of different material. the vehicle failed on the highway while driving at 55 mph. the brakes just completely failed. this happened on 9-17-05. the dealer said that there was nothing they could do about it. the manufacturer said the same thing. the consumer reported no problems prior to this. Dt: the contact states the vehicle went to the other side of the road and he lost control. the vehicle was driven to the dealership at about 3 mph with the hazard lights on. they found the rack and pinion came apart. the vehicle has been at the dealership since this happened. they were unable to obtain the parts needed to repair the vehicle.  view
