1988 PLYMOUTH RELIANT User Comment / Complaint

Have had nothing but problems with this lemon. * 500 miles cruise control fails, has to be replaced. * 16,000 miles ignition coil fails, replaced coil and mass air flow sensor. * 28,000 miles fan in dash diagnosed as faulty and needing to be replaced. parts ordered, never installed. * 40,000 miles oil pump and oil hoses are replaced due to oil pressure failures. car broke down on road. * 44,159 miles oil pressure switch replaced due to oil pressure failures. * 46,000 miles fuel pump failure, replaced under warranty. car broke down on road. volkswagen has a problem with these cars and "oil sludge". vw refuses to fix my car under warranty. last word was "we reserve the right to refuse any warrany claim, regardless of documentation of oil changes." i've talked to several dealerships and it's a #1 problem with these cars comming in for ruined engines and oil sludge. vw is refusing to pay for fixing the problems in most cases. i've got all documentation, original paperwork when purchased, etc.  view

Dt: the consumer states that the 1998 ford escort crashed into a light pole. the driver hit the pole and the air bag deployed and broke. the inside of the air bag sprayed the chemicals on the driver, the chemicals burnt her hands and arm. she said that she could not find a lawyer in her town to take case. the lawyers and the insurance company were working together against her. she said that she had a boil on her hand and a bruise on her chest. the consumer has pictures of the air bag. she wanted someone to reimburse her for the car because she lived in low income housing. she said vehicle was totaled and the junk dealer came and got it. and she did not get paid for it. a police report was taken.  view

Dt: the consumer owned 2003 chevy trailblazer and was having rotor problems. the vehicle has 33,000 miles on it. the rotors were pitted and warped on the inside . the total cost was $838.00 to replace themt. brake pads were replaced along with the rotors. the brakes were squeaking and vibrating when to trying to come to a stop. talso, he brakes squeaked in reverse. t owner took the vehicle to an independent repair shop. the vehicle has now been repaired by the mechanic.the owner ha not called the dealership, but the owner knew that the warranty expired.  view

Dt: received recall letter from kia on june 13, 2005 for the hub assembley. contacted the dealer, they do not have the parts. contacted the manufacturer they were short on parts.  view

Dt: contact statd bmw x5 2001 caught on fire on july 21, 2005. the temperature gauge was at hot, the car started to lose power, the tachometer was over 4 and white smoke started to come out of the engine area while he was driving the car on the highway going approx. 30 mph. as the smoke got worse, he pulled off and the smoke became very white and dense and then ignited into a fire. the fire dept. did come out. the fire did originate from under the hood. prior to this he had no problems with the car heating up. the car was totaled.  view

2005 titan developed problems with the brakes. while braking the steering wheel would shake. the dealer explained that this was due to the way the rotors dispersed heat which caused them to warp.  view

(1) driving in normal conditions. dry roads. normal speeds. (2) when having to stop, the anti-lock brakes kick on, keeping my 2000 silverado from being able to stop. i have to let up on the brakes and re-apply in order to prevent myself from hitting the car in front of me or rolling through a stop sign or light. (3) nothing has been done. i have read that a lot of people have been removing the fuse so the anti-lock brakes don't even work. this is not a proper solution.  view

Dt: airbag on driver's side curtain deployed when vehicle hit something on the road. she was going about 60 mph. dealer said the manufacturer told them that she must have hit something which caused her air bag to deploy and they considered it a collision. manufacturer said the same thing. caller was injured by airbag.  view

While filling tank, gas back-splashed; immediately after driving, gas cap fell off (reverse pressure) and car started bucking violently. gas had reversed its flow throughout the pressurized system. this happened on two subsequent fills.  view

Dt: consumer had a 1995 mitsubishi gulant. consumer took vehicle to a local garage and a mechanic looked at vehicle and found that the cross member that held the engine block and the front wheels together rusted on the sides that connected to the plates. then took vehicle to dealer, and dealer replaced the cross member. consumer was worried that this may be a common problem for this model.  view
