Emergency brake failure. the vehicle will not pass state safety inspection due to inoperable emergency brake. gm is aware of the failure but is only fixing vehicles that are equipped with manual transmissions. gm states that vehicles with automatic transmissions do not need an emergency brake. if the vehicles master cylinder fails while driving, this will be the only way to stop the vehicle by applying the emergency brake. the emergency brakes on the manual transmission vehicles and the automatic transmission vehicles are identical, so gm is choosing to selectively fixing a known defect. the gm dealership stated that repairs could run up to $700.
