1987 NISSAN MAXIMA User Comment / Complaint

This is the second time that the transmission has been rebuilt and it just quites while driving. please describe.  view

Both air bags deployed while the consumer was driving at 35 mph. consumer was able to drive the vehicle home. then, filed a claim with the manufacturer, who sent a representative to investigate problem, and offered the consumer blue book value.  view

Road side assistance complaint. mr the consumer stated the vehicle would not start, there was a problem with the transmission and the box for the 4-wheel drive.  view

The vehicle overheated within 3 minutes to start up. the consumer stated that there was no coolant getting into the engine. the thermostat was replaced 4 weeks ago. the consumer had to use dexcoolant, but, the vehicle started to overheated again. the heater could not be turned on or the vehicle would overheat. the headgasket needed to be replaced.  view

Engine was replaced because of a sludge build up. vehicle was making a noise. consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, and the engine had a sludge build up.  view

Vehicle experienced problems with the upper and lower ball joints. consumer had the vehicle inspected, and discovered that both the upper and lower ball joints split. both the upper and lower ball joints were replaced. later, consumer contacted the manufacturer, who informed consumer that this vehicle was not recalled due to vin.  view

While braking from 50 to 60 mph the vehicle would not stop properly. the consumer would have to appliedthe brake pedal harder to get the vehicle to stop. vehicle has been to the dealer on two separte occasions. the dealer replace the brake booster the first and the second time they was unable to locate a problem.  view

On three separate occasion the multi-function switch failed. contacted the dealer, and was told it was the cruise control. consumer states you could smell the plastic burning. please provide any further information. . this vehicle wa snot included in the recall.  view

An electrical short caused wires to burn and smoke to come out of the steering column. please describe.  view

While driving in inclement weather the windshield wipers failed to come on. driver contacted and drove to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the windshield wiper motor needed to be replaced.  view

When driving vehicle lost power and everything shut down. there were no brakes or steering, and the dashboard was completely black. consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, and was told that if this happened again he would have to tow it back to the dealer.  view

2002 mercury mountaineer- automatic transmission needed a total rebuild at 40,000 miles.  view

Automatic transmission keeps popping when changing gears. brought back for service when under warranty. transmission fluid was flushed. problem went away for a month. after a month problem would arise again. this has been going on since purchase of vehicle. i friend was the same model, has the same problem.  view

Re: ms. diane tsurutani 2002 volkswagen passat. mr the engine light illuminated. the dealer informed the consumer that codes were inconlusive and no repair work was done. after doing research it was discovered there was a possible problem with the ignition coil.  view

While driving the headlights are too high. oncoming traffic will flash their lights on and off. took vehicle to the dealer, they adjusted the headlights, which did not help. it got worse. the consumer stated that the headlight lens had a seam across the top where the plastic is joined. the seam causes distortion and an abrupt cut off of light.  view

Vehicle was parked in the driveway and it was engulfed in flames. the fire report listed the cause as a mechanical failure which started in the engine.  view

The air bag check light remains on, which the owner is informed by the owner's manual that the air bag may not deploy in an accident. manufacturer has been notified by consumer. the light stayed on periodically. consumer took vehicle back february 2005 because consumer was told there should be some error messages left in the vehilce; however that was not true.  view

The rear center seat belt anchor has come off. the consumer made contact with the manufacturer, who advised the consumer that his vehicle is not included in the seat belt recall 98v306000. the consumer stated this recall described his situation exactly .  view

Whole back end of car failed and had to have it all replaced. the bolts broke causing the rest of the back end to totally fail and brake. had to have it all replaced including the bolts, rear suspension linkage, both shocks, and rear axle. we paid out of our own pocket for this to tune of 800. and now to do all of this the car is now acting like it is either having problems with the fuel system or the replaced catalytic converter is going out.  view

1. in april, 2004, i took my new 2004 honda crv to a honda dealership for its 5,000 mile scheduled service. 2. the engine caught fire about ten minutes after leaving. i pulled off the road and almost immediately an off duty fire fighter pulled over and rendered help. thus, the only major damage was to the manifold, electrical harness, hood assembly and windshield. 3. the dealer accepted responsibility for the faulty oil change (they showed me the double o-ring that caused the incident) and paid for repair and related expenses. i would like to commend tampa hondaland for their integrity, concern and professionalism. 4. i received an official notification of the defect today from honda and am glad to see the system works.  view

When traveling at interstate speeds (65-70 mph) or greater an unbearable noise/ viberation just at the back of the hood and leading edge of windshield on the drivers side makes driving a nightmare. took to dealer and mercury has issued a technical service bulletin for this exact problem. dealer nor ford/mercury will make repairs. new parts to correct conditon cost in excess of $100.00 .  view

The truck front fuel tank filled the rear tank and caused it to over flow. the consumer indicated that he never received the recall notice for the fuel tank check valve problem. the dealer replaced the recalled component but the failure recurred. the dealer also replaced the fuel pump, return line check valve but the fuel leakage continued.  view

Recall campaign:04v060000 the consumer experienced symptoms of the steering recall prior to receiving notification. the consumer request reimbursement for the repairs. the steering column locked.  view

1999 pontiac grand am gt was backed out of garage and a light thumping was noticeable from the front of the car. vehicle backed out of driveway and proceeded down street - light thumping sound still noticeable. suddenly, front left end of car dropped - steering became difficult and burning rubber smell was noticed along with some smoke coming from under front left wheel well. car was turned around and returned home - 500 yds. car was towed to dealer. dealer diagonosed problem as broken spring - complete older break and new break identified in spring. collapsing of spring also damaged strut. spring, strut and mounting assemblies were replaced and covered under extended warranty of owner. owner inquired about recalls and requested dealer to also replace front right spring and strut assembly. dealer and gm representative refused to pay for front right replacement. owner paid out of pocked $500 to replace undamaged front right assembly for fear of sudden future failure. dealer would not allow owner to keep broken spring - indicated that it needed to be returned to the factory. owner obtained spring/strut of undamaged front right assembly.  view

Smoke from the steering column. after the vehicle was started, a puff of smoke arose from the steering column and i lost use of my windshield wipers. i have been online and have seen numerous similar complaints to the same affect. shouldn't this be a recall item ? ave had quite a few others problems in the 6 months since we have owned our 1996 jetta.  view

Rear window of our 2002 chevy trailblazer exploded in my garage. there was no prior damage to the window and the failure was without warning. vehicle was parked in garage night before and garage door shut with no incident. upon entering garage next morning, shattered glass was found all over the floor and rear window blown out.  view

Nhtsa campaign 98v095000; ford issued a wheel lug nut recall. this vehicle was not included in the recall, but had some of the lug nuts come off. the vin is outside the remedy scope.  view

Factory recalls - honda motorcycle 2004 st1300 i received a recall for an electrical problem in december. i have contacted 3 dealerships in my county & 2 adjacent counties. none of the dealerships have the parts to repair the problem to date. all 3 dealerships tell me the same thing, that they will only receive the repair kit for the number of st1300 models sold from their dealership. in addition, none of the dealers have received the parts. i have received a second recall for another brake problem. i am concerned that i will have a similar wait for the second recall. in addition, if either recall is causing an unsafe condition i have been unable to correct the situation due to lack of repair parts. it has been 3 months now for the 1st recall.  view

While car was parked and turned off, an electrical fire started in the steering column/ wiring area. the column is burned and melted onto the seat and floor, the interior is fire damaged. fire and police saw no cause and assume a short or defect was cause.  view

2003 dodge dakota quad cab sport plus is having multiple check engine light warnings. this has happened upwards of 4 times. in addition, one of these was supposedly caused by cracked hoses. cracked hoses on a car with 16k miles on it! also, the dealer replaced my breaks because they could not find the reason why the truck makes a certain noise while backing in reverse...the problem still exists.  view

Bought new 2004 explorer xlt january 1st 2005, upon driving the vehicle home i noticed a hesitation in the changing of the gears at low speeds, and it also seems to slip when making turns at low speeds. i took in to ford dealership right away and they said throttle body was sticking and replaced it. also they updated the computer chip and said everything was fine. no change to the vehicle, i took to another ford dealership they could not replicate the problem so they said. they sent me on my way with no relief in sight, they did suggest that i have the transmission fluid recall and i did, it did not change anything. this is a safety issue no matter what ford says, if i need acceleration in traffic and my vehicle does not perform and hesitates or spits and sputters, i and my family are in serious danger and that is not acceptable to me and my fellow consumers. i will not be purchasing another ford product again. if ford has admitted they have this transmission problem, but will not recall and cannot fix this problem, how can they be allowed to let the consumer take the hit??  view

Roof leaked & would not fully retract due to deformation of structural roof members (roof pillars). required replacement of 3 major roof members plus installation of straps (as defined in technical service bulletin). this was a structural failure of the roof design known to mitsubishi, but no recall or consumer alert was communicated.  view

1995 dodge ram 1500 pickup truck, vin 1b7hc16yxss165168. when dropping the tilt wheel to it?s lowest position the radio/tape player would shut off and then restart as if the power was cut off. power for the radio came from battery positive, fuse # 3 (40 amps) to the ignition switch connector c212 position 1 wire (a1 12 red) where it is switched in run and accessory to fuse #7 (10 amps) to the radio and other fuses to other systems. recall # 875 performed on 8/8/2000 involved the blower motor, a relay was added for power switching using the relay controlled by the ignition switch rather than feeding the power through the ignition switch. i observed the motion of all the wires going to all the switches on the steering wheel as it was moved. clearly observable was the connector c212 position 1 wire (a1 12 red) moving out of the connector accompanied by the radio momentarily losing power. observation showed the stripped wire being held only by the insulation crimp part of the metal connector, the wire did not fray away from the connector because it was clean cut and the original smaller gauge wire was still in the crimp part of the connector. note i have pictures of the problem. i removed the smaller crimped wires, spread the crimp wings and soldered the red wire to the metal connector. most likely the damage was done as part of recall #875, as the wiring diagram indicates a 12-gauge wire and the wire i reconnected was at a minimum of an 8 or a 6 gauge. thank god this did not feed a critical system like the antilock breaks or cause overheating and or a fire.  view

Dodge dakota, quad-cab, 2001 ? after heavy usage (i.e. commuter traffic) front brakes seize and lock up; leaving brakes engaged while driving. suspect rotor warp from the heat of the brake pads thus rendering the front brakes fully engaged until the rotor cools. dealer inspected brakes / rotor after each incident (3) to find no obvious direct cause and only made the suggestion to bring in for service when incident occurred again.  view

While driving i had a complete brake failure on my 1999 chevrolet blazer the "brake pressure moudulation brake pipe" let go without warning. the brake warning light came on as the brake pedal went to the floor. the dealer has had my car since 12/22/04 and has been unable to get the part to repair the car.  view

The self canceling turn signals don't function safely during turning maneuvers. stationary splash guard mounted over the steering tires blocked safe access to the outer windshield and prohibited windshield cleaning. it took 95 pounds of force to press the clutch pedal. the gearshift stick was mounted too far to the right and to far too the rear, relative to the location of the driver's seat. the driver's seat is mounted too far forward. the right front power rearview mirrors were not mounted securely in their housings and as a result they vibrate. the high beam indicator light is located at the bottom edge of the instrument panel. with the tilt steering column the light was hidden behind the hub of the steering wheel. the door steps are higher and farther apart which strains the driver's knees and makes entry and ext from the cab more difficult. (volvo vnl-780 diesel).  view

As my family and i were driving down the road in our new malibu maxx the check engine light came on and the radio stated power steering. i tried to steer the maxx but it had no power steering. i stopped turned the car off and restarted it and it started working. i called the dealer and they said that they were having major trouble with the new malibu's electric assist steering. they replaced the column and motor. that lasted about three months. i was driving down a major interstate early on a sunday morning when the power steering went out again. this time severely jerking the steering wheel to the left pushing me into the left lane of traffic. had this been my wife on her way to work monday morning in heavy traffic on this interstate there would have been a terrible accident. we are now on the third steering column, now the heating and defrost control unit is bad, leaving us with no heat or defrost. not to mention the rear seatbelt got stuck and wouldn't move. all but the heating control have been fixed (at dealer now) but where will it stop???? my family works for gm and i think i will buy a ford!!!!!!!! gm better stand up and admit there is a problem! ea04018_cat  view

Ford explorer, 2002. stress crack (about one eighth inch wide, seven inches long) in frame below rear hatch window, to the left of the ford name plate. crack occured without any external force being applied (no collision, not struck by foreign object, etc.) the frame is simply not able to carry the weight of the glass window. consequently, the rear glass window appears to be in danger of falling out. this is the identical problem as reported at www.nhtsa.dot.gov in oid numbers: 10049180, 10052830, 10052901, 10053989, 10079762, 10104457, 10105660. in each case, neither the dealer nor ford would fix the defective window frame. and likewise, they will not fix the one on my vehicle, even though i have an extended warrenty in effect. an individual in the body shop at my dealer said that he has recently seen about a dozen similar problems.  view

Premature wear of emergency brakes on a 2003 chevrolet avanlanche 1500. the brake is not used and the service people could not explain why the brakes wore out. my regular brakes just at 28700 miles just needed to be replaced in the back but not the front. the front brakes are almost like new. even the service manager said that it did not seem right. gm just says nothing they will do. it cost me about $150 dollars(required for inspection) to fix those emergency brakes and i believe there is a defect in the system that allowed the brakes to wear out. they should not have any wear as emergency brakes. gm said they had a lot of complaints but they could not explain it either. can you help me and investigate this problem? basically i was told by gm that they are aware of the problem but don't know what is causing it. so maybe i shouldn't use the emergency brake at all. since they can't prove what's wrong they won't help me. sounds like an excuse not to fix what's wrong. maybe it's just a way of causing the owners of these vehicles to pay more at service/inspection time. a scam!  view

While in park vehicle shifted out of park into reverse. consumer managed to turn off the vehicle from the passenger's side. dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. ....vehicle wa sin park and not running. consumer went to turn off motor from the passenger's side and vehicle went into reverse, as consumer backed out after checking the gear shift to be sure it was srill in park position. the front doorknocked consumer down when he tried to get out of the vehicle. while lying on the ground the front wheel on the right left side of consumer. he sustained several broken ribs, road rash to right leg, burns on arms, side and leg. was hospitalized and had physical therapy.  view

The consumer refuels the vehicle by placing the pump handle in the fixed position. after about 2 gallons of fuel has flowed into the tank fuel overflows onto the ground.  view

The vehicle has been in the shop 8 times for the abs system failure. the brake pedal changes resistance. please describe.  view

My brakes on my 1996 jimmy have locked up on me. increasing my stopping distance. i am concerned about this , however when i took my truck to get serviced at a dealership they did not mention any thing to me .  view

The consumer was informed by a friend that the front tires on his vehicle may be wearing from the inside , from information obtained as a mechanic. after checking the tires, they are worn from the inside. the consumer stated it is due to the suspension on the vehicle.  view

When using the air conditiioning unit in the 2001 nissan altima, there is a buzzing or whirring noise during operation. vehicle noise is annoying. i feel the value of the vehicle is greatly diminished as a result of the noise and will make it difficult to sell the vehicle as a result of the improperly functioning a/c. under warranty, i have taken the vehicle back numerous times. the first time, the dealer replaced a clutch bearing, this did not fix the problem. the next time, the dealer replaced the condensing unit and expansion valve to attempt to repair the noise. the next couple of times the vehicle was taken to the dealer and was told that a request of nissan usa was made to send a factory tech out to find a solution. nissan refuses to send anyone out to look at the vehicle. nissan wanted the dealer to find a similar vehicle to compare the noise, they have not been able to find a comparable vehicle to do that check. it has been almost a year since my original complaint and this has not been remedied. i am fed up with nissan not taking care of my situation.  view

I have on multiple occasions had spark plugs come flying out of the head of my truck. i have asked around and heard that on most ford trucks and econoline vans are blowing these out on the regular. i have also heard that it is due to the aluminum heads having only 4 weak threads. i would just like to point out the fact that it has happened twice to me and can cost anywhere from 200 to 1700 dollars to fix depending on how severe things are. i would greatly appreciate some research into this subject as i am sure thousands of others would.  view

On december 20, 2004, i tried to crank my new 2004 rx-8 to go to work. it was 19 degrees outside. the car would not crank. it had been sitting for 2 days over the weekend. unfortunately, i took it out of gear and did not place it back in. when i got out of the car and went inside, it rolled, hitting a tree causing $3800 dollars worth of damage. the tree was hit very hard and the airbag did not deploy. apparently, this car "supposedly" was recalled and fixed while still owed by the mazda dealership according to their records. however, after having it towed into the service department, it had not been fixed. i was never told of any of these problems or recalls prior to the purchase of the car.  view

The consumer was sleeping when the vehicle, parked under the carport, caught on fire and burned. the consumer's home was destroyed. cruise control nhtsa recall 05v017000.  view

Problem******* and myself were unaware we were stepping on the accelerator and brake pedals at the same time.********** i figured it out twice in time to avoid wreck by standing on brake with left foot. my 7 month pregnant wife while standing on brake with ample stopping distance rear-ended another vehicle. i believe there are two contributing factors to design flaw in this '05 jeep grand cherokee. one is same-level positioning of brake and accelerator pedals and the super quiet "quiet steel" composition of cockpit. made it possible for us to be unaware of engine noise while stepping on gas and brake at he same time. the engine pushed the vehicle thru a stop while standing on the brake and we could not hear the engine accelerating. in my mind this is a big deal safety issue. my wife had an accident just last night with minor damage and we intend to start dealing with the retailer tonight after work.  view

The seat belt in my vehicle randomly comes unfastened when i am driving. even when i pull on the belt after fastening the buckle and it seems secure, it sometimes still pops out.  view

Once you come to a stop during normal breaking, and take your foot off the break pedal to start moving forward, there is a ?thump? as if you are being hit from the rear. this is similar as being reported in odi?s 10089480 and 10092834. dealer states this is normal in trucks, that it is the natural spacing in the drive shaft with rear wheel drive.the only way for the problem not to occur, it to glide to a smooth stop.  view

In november 2003, my wife had a blowout while driving our 1999 dodge durango on the highway. this was just after four new tires had been put on the durango. the service center stated that the blowout was a result of problems with the ball joints and tie rods. then in approximately novmeber, 2004 we had to have major repair of the front axle. in january, 2005 the durango required replacement of the front ball joints, tie rods, two new tires and alignment. this after the same parts had been replaced just 14 months earlier. i do not have the parts that were replaced.  view

Loss of coolant. the plastic intake plenum got a hole in it. this filled the engine with coolant thus causing the car to stall on the highway. i had the defective part replaced at a cost of 900 dollars. i still have the defective part. i'm retired, so this put a strain on our budget. thank you.  view

I own a 2002 subaru impreza wrx with a manual transmission. every once in awhile when i come to a complete stop and place my car in neutral it does not want to go back into first gear. so i have to go ahead and put it into second gear. i have already complain to the dealer and they have done nothing about it. they just say that there is nothing wrong with my transmission.  view

Dash is separated from the car and is curling up. the defrost vent has popped out and visibility is now poor. called ford and was told that an advisory was put out with i never received. that they were aware of the defect but would not fix it.  view

The consumer was involved in a rear end collision of 25 mph, and the air bags failed to deploy. the upper harness of the seat belt failed to hold the consumer in place. the consumers chest hit up against the steering wheel. the consumer was transported to the local hospital by ambulance. the dealer and the manufacturer were not notified at this time.  view

Rims on vehicle keep warping, difficulty steering the vehicle.  view

Consumer was driving at 30 mph when suddenly the steering wheel locked, causing the consumer to lose control, going into another lanes and spin around. no accident.  view

The radiator is leaking coolant, increasing the chance of the vehicle to overheat. taken to dealer twice for repairs, but the problem recurred.  view

Both roof air bags inadvertently deployed while driving on the highway at 65 mph, under normal weather/driving conditions. the cruise control was engaged when the failure occurred. the cruise control disengaged its' self several times prior to the failure. took the vehicle to the dealer, where they tucked the air bags, and the consumer continued to travel. manufacturer stated they will repair if a defect is found. cruise control did not work at times on the consumers vehicle.  view

Engine stalling and under performing due to manifold gasket leaking coolant into engine. my wife was entering a main road from our sub-division driving our chevrolet venture '98 when the engine started running roughly and sputtering. this could have been fatal with the oncoming traffic. this problem was due to a leak of coolant i believe into the engine. it seems gm is aware of the problem but has not notified owners of the vans. at the least they should be making consumers aware of the problem and the fact that engine failure could occur during critical times.  view

Power transmission-does not engage reverse every time the car is put into gear. took to dealer and was told this is a common problem. had to pay part of the repairs because the car was out of warranty.  view

Consumer received recall 04v332000 for the coil spring shield. after trying making contact with the dealer consumer was told the vehicle could not be serviced since north carolina was not included in the recall. consumer stated recall letter did not mention any state. recall campaign; suspension:front:springs:coil springs.  view

Reimbursement for tires. the consumer had to replace the tires on the vehicle with less than 20,000 miles on them. continental denied the consumer reimbursement because the receipt that was supplied fell outside the date of purchase which qualified for reimbursement.( ford expedition)  view

Vehicle experienced problems with antilock brake system since 1991. the brake failed several times while attempting to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to various dealer's who replaced multiple components but the problem recurred.  view

The consumer has to put extreme pressure on the brakes in order to stop. the vehicle has never been serviced for this problem with the brakes.  view

While driving. the hood of the vehicle completely opened up. there is a recall number 01v040000/hood latch. please provide any further information.  view
