My engine front cover gasket has failed in line with ford's recall 99b29. ford does not include my truck in this recall campaign. my truck is currently leaking a great deal of coolant through the failed front cover gasket. this could lead to a catastrophic engine failure. i have contacted ford about this problem several times with no success. they have indicated that they have no intentions of helping me or fixing my truck.  view

I own a 1999 ford taurus with 53,000 miles. i received a safety recall notice regarding a front coil spring defect in august of 2004. this notice said that i would be contacted again in december for details on getting shields installed around the coil springs which would prevent potential puncturing of front tires if the coil springs broke. december came and went and in february i received another notice from ford stating that the shields were not available yet and i would be contacted again in march. as fate would have it a coil spring broke in february, puncturing and immediately deflating a brand new tire. thank god it happened in my driveway. i don't even want to think about what could have happened if it broke while driving down the highway with my whole family in the car. as i went through the repair process, my local ford dealer tried to do whatever they could to make me happy. however, i ended up having to call ford motor company in detroit and found them to be totally arrogant. they appear to be looking at this from a dollars and cents point of view, rather than the huge safety hazard it is. worst of all, they are really dragging their heels on getting this problem fixed in an expedient manner. although i have owned ford products for the past 18 years, i can't see this continuing given their lack of urgency relative to product defects jeopardizing the safety of their customers.  view

I started hearing a "clunking" in the front end. i can also feel "jerking" in steering. it is especially dominant when i am going slower and using brakes, i seem to be able to feel and hear it better when slightly turning to the right. i can also be stopped and just taking off to make a turn and can hear the clunking. i am scared that something is going to fall off someday and i will have no steering. had it look at and mechanic thought it was a broken tie rod end he found on right side, that was repaired 2/7/05.. but clunking and jerkiness is still there.  view

I drive a 1997 ford explorer xlt. the driver's side seat belt today became unlatched when i hit the breaks hard. this is the second time that this has happened. had i hit another car, i would have gone through the windshield. ford wants to charge me $100 for the repair.  view

Numberous of failures; windshield washer system, driver's seat motor burned out 3 times, all replaced. the first day the consumer went to pick up the vehicle from the lot, the battery was dead, however 2 months later the battery was dead again, and 2 months after that the battery died again. the consumer was told a smaller battery was inadvertently installed in the vehicle. the head light assembly, radio and speakers were replaced.  view

This has happened twice. my parents bought a saturn ion 2, it is only about 6 months old. after driving the car to their location and turning it off, they came back to the car (maybe 2 hours later), to start the car and nothing would happen. the first time this happened, they called the dealership and was told to push the unlock button several times on the remote. after about 20 pushes the car was finially able to be started. they brought the car to the place where it was purchased only to have someone tell them they don't see anything wrong and don't know why it did not start. about 1 month later the same thing happened again, they called the dealership, spoke with someone in the shop area and was told they couldn't help them out but if they brought the car into the shop, it would have to left over night to see if they can find any problems. we tried to push the unlock button on the remote as we were told last time to do this - it didn't work this time. after sitting in the car for about an hour, the car finially did start. also on two other separate occassions, on the dash panel, the mileage would dissappear and words would appear. i dont know what this was about, but when this was mentioned to the shop they said not to turn off the car and that it should be brought directly to them. on both of these occassions it was impossible to do that. when the car is turned off and started again, the words disappear. are there any other complaints or problems like this?  view

Hood shocks do not support hood weight. i have had the hood crash down several times, but no one was hurt. other owners of plymouth/chrysler prowlers have reported changing the hood shocks several times with no solution. several other owners have reported being hit on the head while looking under the hood, having injured their wrists and fingers from hoods crashing down.  view

Engine has always performed erratically w/owner describing as "misses". now, engine will shut down w/no warning. computer doesn't register code of failure.  view

2002 subaru impreza wrx, fuel leak due to improperly designed fuel lines where a service bulletin was issued however subaru of america refuses to warranty the problem and says its not a recall. i have puddles of fuel underneath my intake manifold and fuel vapor surrounds the entire engine bay of the vehicle which could result in fire and/or explosion to the vehicle. this issue has only arised to most vehicles who are out of the original 36,000 mile warranty. mostly 2002 and early 2003 models.  view

Very erratic steering when braking supposed "silent" recall; as rotors were not annealed properly chevrolet replaced rotors (i hope) and front pads condition occurred again six months later,had private garage re-cut rotors, replace pads condition occurred again three months later believe defective rotors but can't afford it, fixed income, this condition could cause severe accident if driver panics as it feels like control is totally gone. feel there should be a real recall and new type of rotors installed, i was all set to do my brakes the first time but a friend told me about the "silent" recall. i don't feel that brake problems should be "silent".  view

Rented a chevrolet venture van from avis in flagstaff, az on 10/30/04. the following evening (after dark) as my wife was attempting to exit the vehicle through the power sliding door her hand became caught behind the handle. her elbow was pinned against the seat back and her wrist and thumb were broken. her middle finger was also injured. she will be in a cast until at least 1/20/05.  view

Well lets start with the window motors, i have had my car since 1998 and i have had to replace my window motors for each window at least 2 or 3 times. i which i have had to pay $300 or more. also the side striping which melts off in the sun has been replaced also 3 or 4 times costing $100 each round. why is it that these items have not been recalled or replaced for free when it is not the users fault for these items going bad or falling off!!!!!  view

This vehicle has had a problem since the first day i took delivery of it. it seems to be a problem with the ac/heating system. on days when it is above 65 degrees hot air continuously blows throughout the center vents. i have addressed this issue with the dealer and they stated that there is no fix for this problem. they don't know what is causing this to happen.  view

1) excessive oil useage after 60,000 miles on engine. ) no warning indicator light to show oil is low and needs added; engine seizes while driving. could have caused accident trying to get out of traffic without power. 3) engine was replaced once at 65,000 mile. same has happened again and engine needs replaced. this engine has approx 81,000 miles. oil was changed less than 5000 miles ago and has been regularly changed between 3,000 and 5,000 miles. no prior indication of problem. engine just seized while driving.  view

While applying the accelerator pedal it stuck to the floor. consumer was unable to maintain control of vehicle, and crashed into a guard rail. no injuries reported. vehicle was towed, and totaled by the insurance company.  view

Exhaust fumes were leaking into the cab of the vehicle. consumer contacted the dealer, who didn't think that this problem was important, and will not service vehicle in a timely manor. also, consumer asked for manufacturer's telephone number, but the dealer refused to cooperate.  view

While applying the brakes pedal went to the floor. consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer. mechanic determined that the master cylinder needed to be replaced.  view

Camshaft position sensor keeps failing. have checked all the wiring and the module itself. continues providing codes for camshaft position sensor circuit intermittent and camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction. this has happened to me 3 times, all on the interstate, and all causing the vehicle to stall and sputter in heavy traffic. called today to have appointment to have it replaced. all of this happening at 37,000 miles (1000 miles over the expiration of the warranty). figures....  view

Ignition key hs been locking steering column and would not turn to unlock column. stranded in downtown beloit, because key would not turn. car had to be towed to local mechanic. mechanic could not turn ignition key to unlock steering column. called local ford dealer. dealer said that this is common problem with the ford focus, however there is currently no recall on this from ford. mechanic had to replace ignition cylinder and tumbler. total cost: $246.40. local mechanic: ace auto sales, (608) 362-6600. mechanic's name and owner of shop: brad. not happy in beloit.  view

I own a 2003 dodge dakota 4x4 has problem with ball joints. front end alignment pulling to the right. consumer wants to be reimbursed for time and labor. the engine light illuminate. the dealer found that there was an evaporator leak which was caused by an aftermarket fuel cap.  view

While driving vehicle stalled. consumer was able to restart vehicle, and drive it to the dealer. after a knocking noise was heard coming from the front vehicle was placed on diagnostic machine, but the problem could not be duplicated for stalling. however, mechanic determined that the left and right control arms needed to be replaced due to corrosion.  view

Driving on i 35 going north mile marker 34 , i smelled smoke, stopped care, got grandson out. open hood, and flames shot from car engine. a volunteer firefight was behind me and stopped and put out the fire. lathrop fire station was notified. and they came just as the fire was out. i called my wife sally meyer and told her of events and my grand son and i got a ride home. the care was towed to a-1 auto located in cameron missouri by scotty?s towing service out of cameron m missouri. our insurance company american family insurance is currently investigating it. i have noticed there are other fires that have been reported for this year. are you going to do something about this? obviously there is a serious design flaw in the electrical system. we are now with out a car. is there anyone that can help us with the dodge company to rein verse us for this damage?  view

The driver's door automatically locked, and then could not be unlocked. i drove to my local chrysler/jeep dealer, and they said it was not a safety issue, and was not covered because the car is out of warranty. i think it * a safety issue, as i had to climb out through the passeneger side door, because the drivers side door could not be unlocked or opened, even with the manual unlock.  view

Transmission problems resulted when downshifting, the car will downshifts 2 or 3 more gears at a time.  view

While driving 55 mph driver heard a thumping noise in the rear. the passenger's wheel bent without warning. dealer insisted that the owner had hit something.  view

Consumer stated front rims cracked. as a result, the tires were losing air. ...rims crashed at baseof spoke, resulting in loss of air. according to manufacturer these rims were rated at 2440 lbs each, 4880 lbs total cap on front. truck rated at 5200 lbs fron guw-actual weight with one passenger is 4960 lbs, resulting in rims opeating in overloaded condition before any load at all is placed in or on truck. dealer can't do anything.  view

2004 ford explorer clunks when putting into reverse. this problem has been reported before and i think ford is considering a program. i have taken my explorer to the dealer, and they said they couldn't replicate the condition. it does it all the time, and i think they are avoiding repairs. the carhas only 9,000 miles and is under warranty. transmission has wrong fluid and faulty shift solenoid per ford's own press releases.  view

Consumer complained of grinding brake noise when stopping. dealer replaced front rotors and pads with "updated" versions and replaced brake fluid. when first driven after "update" brake peddle went to floor and car became difficult to stop. pedal soon became less spongy, but required more pressure and more pedal travel to stop car than in the past. dealer service writer said pedal felt normal. after two or three close calls consumer fin rear ended another stopping car, causing over $12,000 in damage to subject car and car that it hit. no injuries. after complete repairs owner traded in the car because it was still too hard to stop. salesman noticed the same thing when he drove car to back lot after trade in.  view

I purchased my 2001 ford focus in october of 2002, it only had 113 miles on it from being test driven so essentially it was brand new when purchased that day. this is my ***3rd*** time of having to have it serviced by ford because the ignition locked up and my key would not turn. i have been told that ford was aware that there were a couple make/models of the focus that have this issue. it has something to do with the sensors in the ingition and the keys being worn down so much that it won't recognize the key/sensor to start the car. very frustrating. now i am dealing with it again, ford has unfortunatly not put a recall out on this specific issue. i am getting close to the end of my extended warranty and still i have to pay a 50.00 deductible everytime to get this problem fixed and it's faulty equipment that ford knows about it. i hope there are enough complaints that ford acknowledges this problem and at the very least, replaces this certain ignition with another year so us customers don't have to pay for their engineering mistakes. i am a single mom with 7 wk old twins and this is not in my budget, let alone once i am out of my extended warranty period, it will be around 300.00 a pop to get this problem fixed. please help!!!  view

Vehicle was experiencing a problem with grease from the rear end leaking onto the left rear wheel braking system. this caused loss of braking in that wheel. dealer replaced the grease seal with an upgraded seal six times, problem recurred. real grease seal was replaced. the driver side brake caliper bolt fell out causing the caliper to rub the inside of the inner dual wheel causing damage to the caliper and wheel.  view

The vehicle was parked in the garage when all of a sudden the engine caught on fire. consume took vehicle to dealer for check up, but the cause was undetermined.  view

While driving 10 mph front coil spring punctured the front driver's tire. the consumer managed to pull over, and had the tire changed. dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.  view

Twice within 12 mths, rear brake lights go out. failure is a relay quoted by selman chevrolet upon first repair. please describe details.  view

The vehicle experienced extreme shaking from the suspension, and sounded like the wheels were falling off. owner had a difficult time controlling the steering wheel when b driving around 50 mph. manufacturer was contacted by consumer.  view

My 2004 audi a4 3.0 cabriolet has windshield wipers which at about 8,000 miles of wear began to make an unbearably loud, rythmically repetitive sound on the driver's side. the selling dealer, cherry hill imports, has repeatedly looked at the problem and said there is nothing unusual about this sound, but the car did not do it when it was new. in severe weather , i have resorted to turning off the wipers for a few seconds at a time in order not to be hypnotized by the repetitive sound of the defect. this, of course, is a safety hazard, but i feel being put to sleep while driving is more dangerous, should the defect lead to that. dealerships besides cherry hill imports have replaced the blades on the car, but the effect of this remedy was non-existent. i feel it is my duty to request the aid of the nhsta to save the lives of audi owners who labor under this hazard, as well as my own. thanks.  view

The problem i noticed with this vehicle, was with the brakes every time i would brake the vehicle would not stop on command the car would continue to glide. this was reported to the dealership numerous times and the response i received was basically i did not know what i was talking about and i was imagining this problem. until this day the problem has not been resolved. the second incident happened when my fiance was in an head on collision in my car, the frontal airbag did not deploy as a result he injured his neck and back. the repairs were done on my car by the dealership ,and know my air conditioning system does not work properly and that also has been reported to the dealership and they refuse to resolve the problem which had occurred after my vehicle had been taken to them for repairs. the lights in my dash board have almost completely gone out.  view

Prior to dealer visit for 60,000 mile service, the abs and tracs lights began coming on periodically. dealer checked and found codes abs-314 & 324 set in system. dealer stated that module replacement would cost approximately $675. dealer said that although the lights indicated loss of abs, braking ability should not be compromised. at that time i declined the repair. since that service visit, the lights have continued to go on and off periodically; on several occasions, it occured during braking and it felt as though the brakes were not going to grab appropriately, if only momentarily. i am now wondering if this is a safe condition, especially with the onset of winter driving. when i saw the number of other complaints on the same issue at the nhtsa website, i decided i should include my own. my suggestions for remediation range from: 1) have the manufacturer investigate the issue further, 2) have the manufacturer replace all modules that are reported to have this problem, or 3) at least have the manufacturer assist the customer by paying a portion of the replacement cost.  view

2004 ford expedition. since i took delivery, the vehicle has a rough idle in any gear once the vehicle has been brought up to operating temperature (approximately 15 minutes). the truck has been returned to original dealership twice for this problem. the original "solution" was stated that due to the change in gas types from summer to winter the difference in oxygen in the fuel was causing the problem. i was told to drive it using a mid-grade gas for approximately 30 days and if the problem was still present return it to the dealer. the vehicle now has about 5,900 miles on it and the rough idle continues after it warms up. the vehicle is only getting about 10.6 mpg which is significantly less than mfg stated and less than the 1997 4.6l expedition i previously owned. i returned the vehicle to the dealer approximately 30 days from the original visit complaining of the same rough idle problem and reduced mileage. on the second visit the dealer said all "electronic" checks were in spec and there was nothing "wrong" with the vehicle. said they would have to turn it over to ford engineer. we are waiting to hear from ford. the car idles rough and the mileage is poor. still no resolution to original problem.  view

While driving approximately 25 mph right rear wheel axle broke, causing the vehicle to skid off the road.  view

While driving. the srs light illuminated on the dashboard. consumer contacted volvo. was told by the dealer that warranty, expired, and there was nothing they could do to assist him.  view

After starting the vehicle it would be hard to shift/ drive/reverse gears. dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. hard to shift when cold.  view

Suspension shook at 60 mph, making it difficult to control the vehicle. manufacturer was contacted by owner. the vehicle vibrates and shakes after hitting bumps. vibration causes head rests to extend at times.  view

Truck was in an accident and the driver side air bag didn't deploy.  view

While washing my vehicle, was scrubbing tires when i noticed a bulge/blister on my left rear tire, on the sidewall. it was located in the middle of tpc, and then the tire size. i notified goodyear of this problem, and they instructed me to locate the nearest goodyear retailer that does adjustments. this tire had approximately 20,000 miles on it, and was 2 yrs. old. this tire replaced another one of the same make, that also developed the same problem, same area. had i have known.....! this tire came as oem when the car was bought in '93, and this is the only tire i've run on the car....but now? goodyear prorated the tire, out the door at $94.00. i was shown where the belts on the sidewall had separated, with the tire being sent to npsc. tire size is p225/60/r16.  view

Check engine light came on while driving and car began to heat up, the driver side airbag came on as well;took it in for maintenance and the alternator was replaced however the airbag problem was not corrected and remains on.  view

While vehicle was parked a fire started under the hood. vehicle was totaled. dealership was aware of the problem, but did not resolve it.  view

Brake rotor warping issue that has been brought up by many owners. rotors were turned and it needs it again 2500 miles later. i requested that the rotors be replaced but request was denied. it seems that the braking system on the front of the armada is not sufficient for the vehicle weight. i am going to take the vehicle in again for the same service this time demanding that the rotors be replaced. nissan should be forced to change the size of the brake rotors, pads, entire system if necessary.  view

The 2004 lincoln navigtor that we purchased has suffered numerous battery failures leading to various electrical problems. at first, the vehicle would not start at all. after numerous attempts to repair and over a week with the dealer, an improperly dealer installed dvd player was the cause. however, immediately after that problem was "fixed" the navigation system failed. specifically, the screen would "grey" out not allowing any input into the system. after 10-13 minutes, the options would appear for a few sections and then "grey" out again.  view

After driving approximately 5 minutes during a snow storm the driver's side windshield wiper quit working. the wiper would not move. of course i could not see to drive in the heavy snow storm. this also happened last winter during a heavy snow storm. both wipers quit working during that storm. last year the dealer who repaired the wipers said they were frozen. this year another dealer stated it was a bolt designed to pop so the motor to the wipers wouldn't burn up. the car was heated up both times, and the windshield was cleaned of snow and ice both times before even attempting to drive during the snow storms. this is a very dangerous thing to have happen while driving. visibility is zero. luckily i was not on the interstate driving, in which there probably would have been a serious accident. if the dealer is saying it's due to design, then this is a very dangerous design. the dealer is more or less saying this car is not designed to drive when snowing. the car was towed to a dealership and a bolt was replaced.  view

Owner complained about a fuel tank problem. owner took the vehicle back to the dealer, and informed the owner that the fuel tank needed to replaced. the technician determined that the vehicle needed to have the fuel tank replaced because the gas tank collapsed. the problem was with, the fuel tank, 2 sending units and the fuel canister.  view

The hood supports will not hold the hood up while i am working on the engine. the car is a 2000 plymouth prowler. chrysler replaced the hood supports under warranty for the same problem. if you have you head under the hood, it slowly settles on your head. this a recurring problem. the date below was the last time i had the hood open.  view

My 2001 ford escape had to be towed because the key would not turn in the ignition.the dealer explained it as a" anti- theft system" gone bad.so my ignition had to be re-keyed.(had to buy new keys). of course that took 3 days. i called fords and they said even though there is a code in there computer for this.no recall has been ordered on this problem.  view

Driver side window was noisy when closing, now has failed such that window does not close completely, slides down allowing water and wind to enter vehicle. motor will function, but makes sounds as though cogs in regulator are stripped. many other owners on various discussion forums have experienced the same problems.  view

I would like to let you know about the 2001 pontiac montana mini van that i have. after about 3 months that i owned the van my two sliding doors (not power sliding) the locks on them either started to either not lock or would lock and stick. this has been a problem for awhile as well as the rear power window motors are out and the windows will not open at all this just happened without any warning and i think that this needs to be addressed before something does happen to any one.  view

Fuel pump failure - dangerous highway speed, stall, abrupt stall while driving at interstate speeds - very lucky to coast to construction traffic only entrance zone in area without shoulders. almost rearended during stall out. dealer states that fuel pump is defective and requires replacement for $700+ chevrolet customer assistance center does not show indication that this problem is significant. web search shows that numerous people have had similar experience. car websites such as msn show fuel pump as possible future repair requirement in their evaluation. extended warranty expired at 100,000 and car at 107,000 miles. no consideration given. dealer authorized to make repair at my expense.  view

The vehicle had a factory re- manufactured transmission installed, which is now sticking in second gear and frequently fails to shift into another gear. the manufacturer is aware of the failure, but hasn't provided a remedy to correct it. the transmission has to be replaced with another re-manufactured transmission.  view

The abs system failed during a panic stop, causing the brakes to lock up and the car to skid uncontrollably into the middle of an intersection. fortunately it did not result in any significant damage. there had been no indication of a problem prior to the incident and the abs light was on after the incident and had not been on previously. the problem was repaired by replacing the abs control module. upon discussions with the technician, it was clear that this is a very common failure with these models and it leaves the the abs system completely disabled when it occurs. as my incident shows, this failure can occur without warning and cause a very dangerous situation where the driver is relying on the abs system and instead has the brakes lock up causing an uncontrollable skid. in addition to this incident, the technician also told me that the module had already failed and been replaced previously at 31k miles. this appears to be a defect that is very common and will cause unsuspecting drivers to suddenly lose control of their vehicles in a panic stop situation.  view

Driving vehicle about 30 when the left front spring on my 2000 taurus broke which destroyed the cv voint and stabilizer links. since there is a recall on the front spring on these towed to dealer who said recalled part covered but subsidairy damage covered under warranty i would have to pay 50. vehcile repaired.  view

While making a left hand turn engine seized up due to engine sludge. consumer managed to pull over and restarted the vehicle. dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.  view
