Re: fuel tank leak 2000 gmc yukon/denali on the evening of september 23, 2004 the fuel tank was filled at a local gas station. upon arrival at home a strong gasoline smell was noticed from the vehicle. the next morning no overwhelming smell of gasoline was evident. on october 1, 2004 the fuel tank was filled during the day, and gasoline was observed leaking down the side of the fuel tank and dripping onto the ground. the vehicle was driven home and not used until after the fuel was no longer leaking on october 4, 2004. the vehicle was taken to a gmc dealership, vince whibbs automotive group, in pensacola, fl for service on october 7, 2004. the service consultant, christa hall, called later that day to inform me that the fuel sending unit had started to separate from the fuel tank and that is where the fuel leak had come from. i went to the dealership and the service technician, alex jenkins, jr, showed me the fuel tank that had been removed and pointed out where the leak was coming from. it was along a bonded/plastic welded bead around the base of the fuel sending unit and where it joins the plastic fuel tank, located at the top center. a new fuel tank had to be ordered to replace the defective tank. the old fuel tank is available.
