Brakes periodically lockup while driving causing accident at 15mph.  view

Windshield wipers will stop working completely while in use, or not work at all when needed. can hear motor, but will not work. causes poor visibility on wet road conditions.  view

The consumer complained about a transfer case problem. at one time this was a recall for this vehicle. the consumer noticed oil under the vehicle after being parked for a while. the consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection. he was told that it was the transfer case. last year the consumer took vehicle to dealer recall repairs and was told by the dealer there was nothing wrong, so the vehicle was inspected only. recall 02v143002.  view

I took our 2000 chevrolet venture minivan in for service and they found that the intake manifold gasket was failing. this was causing anti freeze to leak into the engine which eventually would have caused the engine to need to be rebuilt. come to find out the next day there is a gm tsb 03-06-01-010 on this exact problem. our van has only 45,000 miles on it and i do not believe this should fail especially with so few miles on it.  view

I was driving my ford f-350 and making a turn. when i went to straighten the truck out, i had no steering and went into a ditch and knocked 2 evergreen trees down and rested against a utility pole. too much damaged was done during the accident to find out the cause of the accident. there was no steering. the truck was totaled out.  view

The brakes started pulling left around july of 2003. three different dealers worked on the vehicle. instead of fixing the problem, they changed the toe-in to counteract the truck pulling left on braking. as a result, the truck pulled right from excessive alignment change, which caused an accident. the dealer initially changed the rotors, and calipers, but it did not solve the problem. the only reason i knew that the dealer changed the alignment is because i took the truck to a goodyear tire store for an alignment before taking it to the dealer for the brakes. after the first time the dealer changed the alignment, i took the truck back to the goodyear tire store. they made the laignment right, but the truck stilled pulled left and the steering wheel was way off centered. goodyear tire told me to take it back to the delaer to fix the problem. once i got the truck back, the steering wheel was straight, but the alignment was wrong and it did not handle properly. in fact, the truck was dangerous to drive. after that i took ti to a dealer in reno, nevada and in dixon california. all dealers insisted that the pulling was caused by a tire pull. each dealership backed up the other dealership 's story, since i told them i had an accident that was caused by their work.  view

Underhood fire in the left rear engine compartment. vehicle was parked several hours before failure in a parking lot. others brought the fire to the owners attention who was at work. not repairable.  view

My engine light came on due to the fact that i needed to replace my o2 sensor. while attempting to replace it we noticed a crack in the exhaust manifold. when we took it to the shop we were told that this was a common problem with honda civics. apparently they see the manifolds start to crack around 110,000 miles. the cost was nearly $700 to replace it.  view

Consumer heard the lugs/ nuts and bolts jiggling in the wheel well. a bolt and lug nut on rear driver's side tire snapped off while driving. vehicle was driven to a dealership, who inspected the bolts/ lugs, and nuts, and noticed that another lug nut on the same tire was starting to separate. the lug nuts and bolts were replaced. two weeks later then the failure occurred on the passenger side rear tire . dealership indicated this occurred because of the rims. the tires were rotated by this dealership two weeks prior to the incidents.  view

Intermittently while driving on california freeway between 55 to 65 mph vehicle stalled . this caused loss of steering and brakes. dealership inspected vehicle several times, but could not duplicate or correct the problem.  view

The interior of the headlamp covers on my jeep have, over time, become pitted and discolored to a point that the headlamps barely light the roadway. there is no way to separate the covers from the headlamp assembly in order to correct the problem. this has resulted in several near miss accidents.  view

The complaint was sent via e-mail. i recently had a near accident while traveling. the vehicle transmission just all of a sudden locked up and slammed out of gear. luckily i had just exited off a busy highway, and was spared a possible deadly accident. after taking the vehicle to a repair shop i was told the sprag clutch had gone out, and the metal shavings were all in the transmission. i was also told that the problem was a known issue by ford and among the repairs shops. the defect is identified within a specific 6 months time frame of production. they said that the new ford replacement transmission has been modified to fix this known defect in the sprag clutch.  view

Consumer complained about passenger's side seat belt. when the passenger was strapped in and leaned forward the seat belt tightened inadvertently. consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, and complained to the manufacturer. was told that the seat belts met specifications, and there was nothing else they could do.  view

While driving check engine light came on. vehicle was then taken to a dealership, who performed a diagnostic test that indicated that the intake manifold upper and lower gaskets needed to be replaced. the parts were replaced, but the failure recurred 13000 miles later. the vehicle was then taken to a mechanic, who also performed a diagnostic test in which the failure codes were 171 and 174 . the mechanic changed 4 02 sensors, and did a tune up. also, mechanic a contacted dealership on this issue, who sent them a fax stating if these codes appeared it was a malfunction of the mil lamp, and didn't change the o2 sensors because this wasn't what was causing the problem. they should go to the vacuum light on the intake manifold, and if the fuel pressure on the manifold was lose due to oil contamination then the vacuum line should be replaced, and a new designed lh service cover should be installed or there could be a leak in the intake manifold. vehicle was then taken back to the dealership, and a diagnostic test was performed again, in which the failure code indicated a leak in the intake manifold.  view

I was driving on 1995 expressway at 65 mph, when the car completely died, i managed to coast it into a breakdown lane. i called the police thinking i had a computer chip problem that happened to a previous honda. finally noticed that the radio was working and there had been a key symbol on the dashboard before it went out. i was able to start the car up and then realized that the ignition key had slipped forward into the off position while i was driving. i had not touched it, nothing jarred it and i cannot repeat it by hitting or leaning on the other items on the key chain. i noticed that the key has a lot of room to jiggle in the igniition switch. checked your nhtsa to see similar problems with honda. very concerned. honda will not see the car until next week, they claimed of hearing about it in older cars but not newer.  view

While driving 70 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the consumer was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection. the mechanic could not duplicate the problem. please provide further details.  view

The consume received a recall notice(04v-373-000) for replacement for the front wheel. no parts were available.  view

While driving, the consumer smelled smoke coming from the vents. the consumer pulled over, lifted up the hood and discovered the engine was on fire. the consumer extinguished the fire. the consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection. the mechanic informed the driver that the cause could not be determined. please fill in additional information.  view

Multiple tail lamp failures on my 1999 chevrolet malibu. i have replaced more tail lamps than i can remember. while replacing them the last time i noticed that the place where you plug in the lamp was starting to melt. i think this is a hazard. the lamps are not burned out when i have to replace them. they just don't make contact with the contacts after a while. i have to put new ones in to get them to work again. this last time i almost couldn't get one to work.  view

The left rear tire experienced a tread separation while driving 35 mph, the tire was still inflated. with only the driver. the tire was on a 2000, ford, f250-super duty truck. after market equipment installed at 46,000 miles, tire size lt 265/75r16, and dot # adw81ee1202.  view

Consumer received recall 04v357000 concerning cam shaft position sensor. dealer was not in operation.  view

While driving transmission does not shift properly in cold weather. transmission was replaced three times; however, the problem recurred.  view

Recall 04v357000 concerning cam shaft position sensor. the consumer's vehicle experienced problem with the check engine light illuminating, and a burning odor was smelled. the vehicle was taken to an authorized service center. the check engine light was still illuminated, and the engine was accelerating too high. also, the consumer made several attempts to contact the service center by voice mail and fax. the consumer received no response. the heated seats were inoperative, there were no fog lights, the windows fogged when it rained or snowed and when the heat was on, the keys did not work, and there was a rattling under the vehicle.  view

Windshield wipers don't work most of the times. (5/1/04). last week a turn signal noise started which is apparently a multifunction switch in the steering column is bad. (7/1/04).  view

Re: nhtsa id 04v060000. my 2000 corvette steering column locked up and would not release while in my driveway. this failure is supposed to initiate a fuel shutoff to prevent vehicle movement. however, i was able to move the vehicle and drive it up a tow truck ramp for transportation to a gm dealer. fortunately, the front wheels were straight when the column locked up. the problem i have with this situation is that my vin is not listed in the current recall campaign for this type of failure. i was required to pay for the repairs which involved the replacement of the column lock switch.  view

The abs braking system would come on at different times , making them defective. the manufacture stated that system was working ineffectively, however it was because of the worn tires. the consumer was involved in an accident where he rear ended another vehicle. the consumer would jam on the brakes as hard as he could. they worked for a short period of time, slowing the vehicle down to about 10 mph then releasing completely and caused the vehicle to roll into another vehicle.  view

When rear ended 40 mph front air bags did not deploy. consumer had the vehicle towed. dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.  view

The oil light would come on and oil would leak out of the vehicle. after trying to start the vehicle the engine does not connect at first, has to try at least two times before it will start. dealer stated it could be either the starter or the engine.  view

I own a 2003 subaru wrx sedan with a manual transmission and quite often when shifting gears 2nd,3rd,4th and especialy in 5th gear it tends to not shift in gear(gets stuck) and grinds from time to time. this scares me when i get on the expressway and i have to shift gears to get in the flow of traffic i'm affraid that its going to stick and cause a accident (it has gotten stuck in traffic and have almost had a accident). it happens during normal driveing conditions even when i shift fron neutral to reverse it will grind. it has been a problem since i bought the car in 6-27-03 i've taken the car to the dealership and asked for on of their technician drove my car and said that there is nothing wrong when shifting gears. the car has no modifications.  view

The steering assist on the tahoe suddenly goes away and the steering goes completly loose, and then suddenly it gets firm again. this causes erratic steering and over/under adjustment which can lead to a serious crash. i took it in 2 times and the problem still comes and goes, esspecially while in a turn. this should be a recall because of the seriousness of the problem. if the pwer steering fails it should fail to a firm steering condition not a total loss of steering!!  view

Problems with intake manifold on 1997 mercury grand marquis. the intake manifold cracked which caused antifreeze to be sprayed onto the engine. the consumer observed that the replacement manifold had an additional protective metal plate located around the front face of the manifold directly opposite the alternator. the consumer believes that the addition of the metal shield is proof that the manufacturer was aware of the poorly designed original design therefore he feels they should have been recalled. the consumer request reimbursement for the cost of a new intake manifold.  view

While driving on freeway at approximately 75 mph consumer's vehicle was involved in a roll over. upon impact, air bags failed to deploy. the front doors were impacted yet the air bags did not deploy.  view

Due to the gas throttle sticking, the vehicle was in an accident resulting in the rear passenger tire to blow. there were no injuries, but the vehicle did explode.  view

Rear brake pads and disks worn out after 19000 miles. the front brakes are within spec. dealer states it's normal for passat, i don't think it's true. the front brakes are usually the first to engage, if needs a harder braking - then the rear brakes become active! did the vw re-invent the wheel??? obviously there is a design flaw or manufacturing defect. i've had japanese and american cars before - usually you have to service the rear brakes around 50k miles! as for the dealer - the service manager in this case - he conveyed some kind of nonsense just to get rid of me.  view

The transmission has been repaired, front axle replaced due to vibrations, 5 new tires, radio, etc... this vehicle has been into the dealership numerous times for repairs to the point where the district manager for chrysler has been involved. the vehicle ran a little better for a brief period of time and the transmission continues to shift incorrectly the vibration is back and the district manager (mr. bill keuhrman states "that there is improvement", and i stated that it is funny the words he chose instead of the vehicle is running correctly. the vehicle scares me to drive because of the hesitation during shifting.  view

Steering wheel locked up. consumer was unable to move the steering wheel. when this happened it tightened to the point that when making a turn it was hard to turn. its was as if something was holding on to it. this occurrence happens intermittently  view

I have a 97 mazda 626 with 88000 miles and the automatic transmission is failing. strated out with a problem shifting to third gear, but now the o/d light is blinking. the mechanic says that it need a new transmission that will cost $2000. i have maintained this car pretty well and it shouldn't have problems, unless the producty is faulty. so many people have complained about this problem. something should be done.  view

While driving 60 mph consumer saw smoke coming through the front of the vehicle. consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to a body shop for inspection. mechanic determined that head gasket needed to be replaced and replaced it. three years later while driving consumer heard a loud noise coming from the front of the vehicle. consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to a body shop for inspection. mechanic determined that the engine needed to be replaced due to a head gasket blow out.  view

The consumer could not get vehicle out of park one morning and had to replace a fuse. just after vehicle started smoke came from under hood. the consumer opened the hood, and saw a fire at the master cylinder. the consumer put the fire out with a bottle of water. the master cylinder pressure switch and connector was replaced.  view

Alternator failed while driving normally. no prior warning. had to replace battery to get car home. parts replaced under warranty.  view

1) while driving kids to school, electric sun roof was placed in the full open position, after deciding the morning air was too cool for the children an attempt was made to close sun roof. 2) the unit would not close, it had fialed in the full open position. driver had to pull to the side of the road due to the distraction of the roof not closing. after determining the roof was not going to close, the driver took the vehicle home. with rain emanate in the area from hurricane bonnie and charley. the truck was taken to a ford dealer. the service department found the motor assembly had failed. 3) a new motor assembly was ordered, this is when the dealer found out due to failures and a design flaw the motor assemble was redesigned.  view

The passenger side air bag had a hole inside. it was discovered while cleaning the leather. after the service manager examined the vehicle and then another vehicle of same year, make and model, he determined there was a hole. also, air bag light was on. the dealer stated to bring the vehicle back for the air bag light. however he would not repair the hole.  view

The car has a "hard shift" going up from 1st to 2nd and back down periodically. it is accompanied by a loud clunk, loss of power, a jerking of the car and occasionally a growling sound in the front end. diagnostics on the computer is negative, only once has the check engine light come on, but the car has been found to be low on transmission fluid three different times in 4 weeks with no apparent leak. it has done this only once for a mechanic and they recommended removing and rebuilding the transmission. american honda-customer service stated that i needed to take it to a honda dealership for diagnosis. it was there today but they did not find anything wrong, except the transmission fluid was low again. this car is a 2001 and has 40,800 miles. we have also had to have the catalytic converter replaced and the serpentine belt replaced- both very unusual for a car with so few miles.  view

The event that led up to the issue, was traveling on the interstate when the car began to shake violently and the car began to completely sway to one side. the car almost seemed as if it lost its alignment immediately. i brought it to a repair shop and they immediately informed me that the control arm on the upper right side was shot. i had to then take a used car that was purchased less than six months old to the dealer to replace the part at a price of 1100 dollars.  view

Problems with front suspension and brakes on 2002 dodge dakota. the front suspension squeaked and was unable to be duplicated, the brakes were noisy upon application and was also unable to be duplicated, noise would come from the shock absorber when stopping and when going over bumps, noise was coming from the left front upper ball joints on left turns and when going over bumps, the left caliper made a sticking sound and the wheel bearing was replaced, the drive belt made sounds, and the brakes pulsated.  view

Recall 04v11 000 concerning fuel rail tubing. the consumer smelled fuel odor while driving. made an inspection under the hood, and located fuel leaking onto the engine from a pin hole in the fuel rail tubing. the consumer contacted the dealer, and was informed that this part was not covered under the manufacturer's recall. however, the part was available for analysis.  view

Car will not start and needed to be towed. problem 1st occurred on 6-16-04. issue was identified as the anit-theft system, which caused reprogramming of the module. on july 1st anti theft light came on and car was driveable to service shop at which time both ignition switch and body control module were identified as issues. reprogrammed again to see if problem persists. i've complained of hesitation upon car starting for 3 years which the dealer was never able to recreate. i feel that the anti theft issue may have been the underlying issue all the time and intend to pursue this with the dealer if problem reoccurs. i feel though warranty has expired that issue was reported and should be rectified by dealer and gm.  view

Consumer stated that while driving the gas needle went from full to empty. the gas tank was full but read empty. consumer was unable to know what the gas level actually was.  view

1998, ford, explorer, consumer had problems at different times getting the driver's side door not open after the vehicle was unlocked. this problem happened while consumer was driving or when the consumer was out of the vehicle.  view

Complete engine failure on dodge intrepid 2.7l engine. no warning engine just stopped, dealer claims many simular reports, $9000 to fix.  view

Engine seized due to defect in turbo/oil pump; vw dealer stated due to improper maintenance (not enough oil changes); vw usa said due to defective oil pump, but still won't cover under warranty; engine replaced; cause found to be defective turbo.  view

Abs and brake warning light suddenly appears accompanied by warning message "stop - brake fault" and loud audible alarm. my independent vw mechanic retrieved vehicle fault codes and advises the replacement of the abs control unit. the mechanic said he has seen this problem several times in the past year. the abs is inoperable and the drivers normal braking effort could result in the rear wheels locking up. failure to correct this problem by replacing the abs unit is likely due to the high part cost ($1,123.25) as this is becoming a common issue with many vw owners (evidence of this is readily availabe on the internet), the driving public's safety is being jeopardized for ecomomic reasons.  view

The cd sensor was defective. this defect was repaired by the dealer once before. consumer stated it will not pass emission control. test. manufacture wa scontacted.  view

The dealership was refusing to honor the cam shaft position sensor recall 04v357000, because they were indicating that the part was not part of the recalled parts. also, there were fumes that were coming into the cabin of the vehicle through the air vents. there was no leak in the exhaust pipe.  view

Consumer had to pay out of pocket for cam shaft sensor recall 04v357000.  view

Both cables to the liftgate broke due to rust and corrosion. dealer was contacted. dealer informed consumer that the truck was not covered under a recall.  view

Consumer received a recall on the samsung microwave. samsung mailed the recall in july, and consumer is still without a microwave.  view

The exhaust pipe started making a loud noise while driving. vehicle was taken to a repair shop. dealer indicated a crack had developed in the exhaust pipe. also this was a common practice with these vehicles, and it may be a defect in this part.  view

While driving at low speeds power steering failed three times. recall 03v527000 concerning steering gear bearings was issued however the consumer's vehicle was not included in the recall due to vin.  view

Vehicle's steering locked up resulting in consumer hitting an embankment. the steering wheel spun to the left and locked in the left position. the vehicle did not have brakes. it felt as if the vehicle shut off. the vehicle was declared a total loss. the two front tires were bald. the sway bar was broken and could have contributed to the spin out.  view
