Quality rv installed gas tank w/poor results of bands to stretch tank began to lower to ground while in motion. please describe details.  view

I bought the car in august 2003, i noticed a repair docket from previous owner for left lower ball joint and left tie rod assemble w front end alignment on 5/29/03 at 34383 miles. i had a lot of noise under the engine. vw capistrano checked it out and said it was driver side ball joint. i bought car from a ford dealer who did not want anything to do with it. finally, vw capistrano forced their hand and processed it through my then current warranty. at the time, i had 45k miles on the car. i thought it shocking that a car so young should have such a major problem (for the second time). when i picked car up, a couple of days later, i heard a loud crunching noise in the front left hand side of the motor or wheel. i thought nothing of it, drove it another 5000 miles, had to replace 4 tires, and asked the tire tech to check it out. he said it was the steering knuckle and it was in bad shape. i contacted vw who said, bad luck, it's only covered for 24k miles or 2years. i again am shocked, firstly because that's impossible one of these should go out so early, added to that, if the ball joint was replaced, then isn't the steering knuckle, moved in some way shape or form, so there should be some sort of recourse. this car is a lemon, however, ca law states it isn't. i was ripped off by theodore robbins in costa mesa and wouldn't recommend anyone buy from them, they were suspect from day one once i drove my car from their lot. also, the back right seat belt is fixed to the seat and is unusable, i complained it was dangerous, ford said too bad, you bought it that way fix it. since then my horn has gone out because the car 'lost' it's under wheel cover and water got into the horn. this car reportedly had a 100 point inspection, which i believe to be not true. the radio has never worked a day, it's always 'fuzzy'.  view

Consumer lost consciousness briefly which resulted in accident. as a result the driver hit a road sigh which caused the windshield to break. the top of the drivers head hit the moon roof and shattered the glass. as a result thousands of glass shards became embedded into the consumer's scalp. the consumer believes this was not safety glass. the driver also sustain eye injury when shards of glass resulted in a hemorrhage and scarred eyeball. opthamologist recommended plastic surgery.  view

While turning the vehicle off the key could not be remove from the ignition switch. this caused the vehicle to continue running.  view

Driving south on i-15 north of las vegas, tire tread on passenger side rear wheel separated without warning. it was a hot day (around 110 degrees) and the highway speed there is 75 m.p.h. the tread flew up and smashed the side window of the sienna minivan, tore off part of the side fender and damaged the sliding door. the tires had been well maintained and had been inpected within the previous month at the toyota dealer. nonetheless, firestone has refused to compensate us for the monetary loss and has tried to shift the blame to us, saying there was proof that the tire had been run low, etc. (we had to drive on the tire after we lost the tread as we were in a remote area. since there was still air in the tire i drove slowly to where we could get help.) thus i have argued that the wear found by their "engineers" was due to driving on a treadless tire which was losing air. i have requested firestone to send us back the damaged tire. the damage repair bill was $1780, plus the cost of the rental car etc.  view

Purchased a 2004 chevrolet malibu in dec. 03 - on feb. 09, 2004 i was in stop and go traffic on the baltimore beltway during morning rush hour. while going only about 7 miles per hour, i applied my brakes to stop and my car would not brake. i ended up running into the suv in front of my vehicle. no damage to the suv, however the front end damage to my malibu was $3500.00. (after poking around on the internet i found out that the malibu received the poorest rating on a low speed front end impact crash test) it really doesn't look like $3500 worth of damages. needless to say i was floored when i received the news. anyway, about three weeks ago i received a recall letter in the mail stating that my abs sysyem needed to be reprogrammed. it also stated in the letter exactly what happened to me on feb 9, 2004 when my car did not brake. i am 100% certain that this is what caused my accident. i phoned gm and took my car into the dealer. they inspected my vehicle and reprogrammed my braking system. a representative from gm called me earlier this week. he stated that they found no problems with the brakes in my 04 malibu. (so why the recall and why did they reprogram the abs?) he also went on to say that gm would not be held liable for any damages sustained from this collision. i disagree! i feel that general motors should be held liable for my damages.  view

Transmission exploded for the second time and gm says they can't help me. i have done some research on this and it seems to be a common problem in these vehicles.  view

I have a 1984 mercedes benz (mb) 380sl. this model is equipped with the exact same subframe that was installed on the mb 450sl models. the subframes for the 450sls were recalled because of the danger of it cracking and the left wheel collapsing under the car or coming off altogether while driving. mb made the erroneous assumption that because the 380sl engine was aluminum versus the cast iron of the 450sl engines, that the defective subframe could support the engine. a severe crack has been discovered in my 380sl subframe in the same exact place and exact same type as the cracks that occurred in the 450sls. i also understand that this is not totally uncommon in the 380sl model. i have talked with "james" at mb-usa to ask that the recall be applied to my vehicle and that they perform the repairs as they did for the 450sls. my request was denied. i left two voicemail messages and sent an e-mail to mb's southern california marketing mgr, andy noye. mr. noye has not returned my calls nor responded to my e-mail. the local dealership, mb of san diego is also stone-walling me. i am one of the very lucky ones that the severe crack in my car's subframe was discovered by my independent mb mechanic during a routine service. the crack is so severe that it is far too dangerous to drive the vehicle. as mb refuses to address the issue and i cannot afford to keep a rental car indefinitely, as of this afternoon, i have instructed my independent mb mechanic to perform the repair at a cost of approximately $2235+ tax. i have requested that my independent mb mechanic retain the defective and cracked subframe removed from my vehicle for inspection. my car will be repaired by jim fahey at mb auto center in san diego california. mr. fahey can be contacted if necessary to substantiate my claim at (619) 234-5418.  view

When following behind a semi truck or a pickup pulling a trailor the turbulance from the truck or trailor causes my 1999 ford taurus se to shake violantly and is hard to control.  view

The abs warning light and the brake warning light were illuminated. scan tool data showed codes for"abs pump stalled" were stored and active. replacement of the abs module and the abs ehcu were required to repair the vehicle. verizon has had many underhood fires in this model van which originated in the abs module area. verizon feels that this is an unsafe condition which warrants further investigation and repair by daimlerchrysler.  view

I own a 1999 chevrolet suburban k1500 with a 6.5l turbo diesel engine. i recently went through numerous instances where the engine shut off immediately as if the ignition were shut off. several instances were not life threatening as they occurred in parking lots or not when in traffic. several instances were more dramatic. when merging into city and highway traffic, i was suddenly left with no steering or brakes as the engine had died. this is a large heavy vehicle and does not respond well without power input from those components. luckily none of the instances resulted in a accident. i now have a newborn son and always have a concern with him in the vehicle that another shut down could occur at any point. the vehicle was brought to the dealer and the injection pump was replaced. doing research on this revealed countless incedents of similar occurances with vehicles having the same electronic injection pump. while fixing the problem temporarily has helped, it appears as if only a matter of time until it occurs again. had i been aware of these persistant problems prior to purchasing the vehicle, i likely would have purchased another. as it is now, i am stuck with this dangerous issue.  view

While driving service engine light came on. then, vehicle decelerated followed by heat and ventilation failures. this was due to engine intake manifold malfunctioning. the manifold wasn't designed correctly by the factory engineer, which caused the engine to misfire. dealership diagnostic test showed coolant leaking. cylinder replaced, and lower intake manifold improved design, per bulletin 010601007a. also, coolant and fluid plugs were replaced.  view

My husband and i experienced two blow outs on firestone tires during a trip in july-august, 2004. after having to replace all of the tires during the trip we called ford and firestone. firestone offered to pay$100.00 to cover some of the expenses of spare tire replacement(after the blow outs and before we purchased new tires because we feared further problems) but we refused this. we believe these steeltex radial r4s tires are hazardous and some warning should be issued. we were fortunate to have survived without bodily injury. i will call and/or send a copy of the letter sent to the ford dealer who sold the van to sports mobile who converted it into a camping van. i also sent a copy of this letter to firestone.  view

Since the day i had my 2004 volvo xc90, both the driver and passenger side windows do not close completely until i hit the window button three times. i have been told that this is not correctable and is normal for this car. however, this problem does not exist on the 2005 models.  view

We purchased a mazda protege5 in january of 2002. within a very short time, (~1000 miles, maybe less), we noticed a high pitched whining noise. this noise occurs between 50 and 75 miles per hour on average. we brought the vehicle in to mazda, and a mechanic immediately tied the problem to the transmission. so, in very short order, they replaced our transmission, (which worried me a little). unfortunately, this did not correct the problem, so we complained once more, and within a week or two mazda apparently released a bulletin which releases them of all responsibility. this bulletin apparently states that the whining noise associated with certain mazda protege5 vehicles is merely a vibration in the engine and will not affect the integrity of the vehicle or its resale value. i would like to suggest that i certainly would not buy an otherwise pristine vehicle if it whined every time i got on the freeway...i have to turn my radio up quite loud just to drown it out!!! mazda will do nothing for us, which is sad, because i have enjoyed owning this and other vehicles, but will not necessarily consider buying another.  view

1) vehicle started losing radiator fluid then 'check engine' light came on. 2) took vehicle to mechanic who stated there is a crack in the front plastic part on the engine. mechanic stated he has replaced a couple dozen of these parts on other newer mustangs and it was covered by warranty. mechanic stated to take to the ford dealership, this was a defective part and is being replaced with an aluminum part instead of plastic because of this defect. 3) took vehicle to columbia, sc dealership. they stated other mechanic was correct and would it cost $780 to replace part. 4) i feel ford should pay for this since it is a defective part.  view

Control arms on 2000 volkswagen passat are failing. the car has 55,000 miles; arms also failed at 36,000 and were replaced. this is not acceptable; i have also heard of people who had the control arms break while driving. this problem has happened to many, many owners.  view

Coolant leakage from hose on right hand side of engine compartment. this has happen a least 3 times also my check engine light has come on at least 3 times. brought vehicle to vw service they reset the engine light and told me it was the temperature sensor which they claim they change but a month later same thing happen agian. i'm schedule agian for oct 11 2004 for coolant leaking from the same hose that i brought to them several times before. after reading a post here i've also notice that my 03 vr6 gti feels fast some days and slow others wondering if i may have a coil problem.  view

The consumer's stated mirrors were so large that they created a hazardous blind spot. the side of the mirror was struck and broken because the consumer did not see the object.  view

Pinion seal on front differential leaked, repaired under warranty. now the seal in the rear differential is leaking where the drive shaft connects.  view

Prior to turning over 50,000 miles, the transmission failed. while driving down the interstate, the vehicle shuddered and began making a whine. pulled over immediately and heard the sound of metal pieces rolling around in the transmission no matter what gear vehicle was in. no warning light indication had occurred. had the vehicle towed to honda dealer and mechanic stated that the torque converter had failed and the transmission needed to be replaced. manufacture warranty had expired, estimated cost was 3500 for part and 700 for labor. i feel it should be covered by honda since a failure should not have occured this soon in the lifespan of the vehicle.  view

Ignition switch has failed and been replaced twice in past 4 years (10/2000 & 8/2003). when it fails, the transmission fails to shift properly and the vehicle loses power and/or stalls. this creates a very dangerous situation, especially if you are in heavy traffic with your entire family. i have been told by gm technicians that this is a common problem due to poor design, engineering and mfg quality.  view

Both exterior rearview mirrors on my 1999 f-150 lariet model have experienced black spots. the black spots make it impossible to see anything behind me. i have done research and found that delamination of mirrors occured on 1998 and 1999 f-150, f-250, expeditions, and lincoln navigator vehicles. i have had the mirrors replaced at a cost of $150.00 per mirror plus labor. i contacted ford to ask about reimbursement for the costs of replacing the mirrors and was told that since the vehicle is not under warranty that they can't do anything. ford has been very unresponsive to this issue. it appears unless a vehicle recall is required that they will not voluntarily replace the mirrors. i was told by the parts manager that the replacement mirrors have a different design than the original mirrors. i can only assume that the mirrors were redesigned after ford realized that there was a defect.  view

My vehicle's (1995 pontiac grand am) dimmer switch is malfunctioned. the head lights go out if you try to cycle from high beam to lo beam. i also know of another person with the same problem.i recently experinced this problem while driving at night.  view

Vehicle stopped during normal driving and there was a lost of power steering and braking. the vehicle stopped during the dealers test drive, but they were unable to find the problem. the dealer stated that this problem pointed towards a knock sensor air flow sensor, or possibly an electronic control unit.  view

Dealership informed the consumer that battery cables were not getting enough charge to start the vehicle. dealership repaired the problem. the vehicle quit running after shimmying all over the road.  view

Right rear shock broke while driving 35 mph. manufacturer was notified, and they informed the consumer that it was considered normal wear at 80,000 miles.  view

Steering wheel produces a whine noise when turning. the whine would be present when the vehicle was turned. this was an intermittent problem. the dealer also noticed the noise and diagnosed the problem as friction in the steering mechanism and lubed the steering. the noise continued intermittently and the dealer had become unable to duplicate the problem.  view

While driving at 60 mph consumer heard a loud explosion and the vehicle veered to the left. vehicle ended up in a gully facing oncoming traffic. consumer examined the vehicle and found that the tread peeled completely off of the right rear tire.  view

A recall for the front coil springs was issued. when the consumer called dealer to set up an appointment dealer informed the consumer that they could not look at the vehicle until the coil springs failed.  view

Dealership was unable to perform the steering gear bearing recall 03v527000 because they did not have the tools.  view

The multi-function switch for the windshield wipers failed. a recall was issued. however, this vehicvle was not involved in the recall due to vin.  view

The power supply connector to fuel pump inside the fuel tank at upper end of pickup/fuel pump support tubes burned hot enough to soften the copper connector causing it to open up and shut off fuel pump causing engine to stop running. approximately 2 inches of wire insulation was melted off at the top connector end. this is inside the fuel tank surrounded by fumes and fuel. if air was introduced there would have been an explosion. this is the factory installed fuel pump and fuse did not blow even though the wire was exposed and near metal components. i've owned the truck since new. richardson brothers chevrolet in floresville, texas and other auto part dealers informed me that this is very common and have seen worse damage to wiring. the dealer wanted over $400.00 for the parts which include new pickup tubes with fuel level float and fuel pump. i'm a quality control inspector for aircraft and this would have grounded the entire series of that particular aircraft. While driving 25 mph front end began to produce a loud knocking noise. dealer stated the front driver side wheel bearing separated from the axle.  view

While driving on state road 100 about 65-70 mph. the vehicle completely shut down. there was no warning. the vehicle was taken in for a check up, and was told that it was the fuel pump. the consumer had the fuel pump replaced. the consumer was concerned because their four children would occupy the vehicle as well.  view

5 studs broke off the front right wheel on three separate occasions. dealer and the manufacturer were both contacted. in the first photo sent in by the consumer the outside edge was milled correctly and sits against the rotor. in the second photo the outside edge was milled off.  view

Dual airbags did not deploy in front end collision while at stand still; hit another vehicle travelling at least, 50 mph.  view

When applying vehicle brakes in a panic the torque converter locked up and caused the vehicle to lose power. the consumer was unaware that this was a characteristic of the vehicle.  view

Problems with brakes on 1999 pontiac bonneville. the vehicle shimmied when going on downgrades and when using the brakes. new brakes were just installed at around 30k miles and the shoes were worn almost to the metal. the shoes were wearing uneven but the dealer told the consumer that they would be fine. the vehicle seemed a little better, but the vehicle still shook and could have thrown the consumer off of the highway, but the consumer held on to the steering wheel. the new rotors were placed on the vehicle and was thought to be the fault, but the problem recurred while the vehicle was being driven in the mountains.  view

Vehicle was involved in an accident while traveling at 25 to 30 mph but the air bags did not deploy. the consumer was involved in a front end collision yet none of the air bags deployed. the consumer contacted the manufacturer about the air bags but the representative did not seem to be too concerned about the situation. the consumer believes the air bag should have deployed and doesn't feel safe in the vehicle. the vehicle sustained $6881. worth of front end damage.  view

After work on the evening of september 30th, 2004, i got in my vehicle and put the key in the ignition and was unable to turn the key as to start the car. i thought maybe the steering wheel locked in place funny so i wiggled the steering wheel while trying to turn the key and still nothing. i felt sick because i had no idea what to do. luckily there were still co-workers in the bank where i work so i was able to use the phone. first i called the ford dealership where i purchased the car and spoke with the service dept. they diagnosed the problem in about three seconds. i was told this was a very common problem with my particular vehicle. they said the only thing i could do would be to have it towed to them and it would cost around $400.00. i thought i would just die. i am a single parent on a very tight budget. i have very little room for such repairs being that i am making payments on a car i bought new to try and avoid repairs on an old vehicle. i had to wait for a friend of mine to drive out from irvine, ca (about 70 miles away) to help me. he had auto club so i was able to tow my car to the dealership. the driver of the tow truck informed me that he tows around 12 to 15 of the same cars with the exact same problem once a month. i told the dealership to not work on it if it was going to cost anything because i don't have the money. they said that they would hold off to see what i was going to do. over the weekend i researched the problems others were having with their ford focus. there are countless websites with hundreds of people writing with the exact same problem i am having. you can call any ford dealership service dept and inquire about the ignition problem and before you can finish they tell you how common this problem is and that it will have to be replaced for about $300.00 to $400.00.  view

I just bought my honda crv on 09/09/04, in third day i found that the washer container or bottle leak the liquid in the drainer neck, because the connection of the neck and the bottle has no washer rubber to stop the liquid from leaking. i call for repair but excuse for waiting the parts, it seems this is unreasonable.  view

Consumer received recall04v110000. however, the vehicle blew up before the recall came about. consumer contacted the cadillac manufacturer. she was told that there was nothing they could do.  view

Driving at night i have been stopped on numerous occasions for faulty rear taillights. it seems the light bulbs will work their way out of the sockets and light up some of the time but usually not at all.  view

Front suspension torsion bar broke while driving 5 mph. consumer contacted the dealer, and was informed that the part was not covered under a manufacturer's recall.  view

The consumer stated that the brake lines rusted. this defect occurred on 3 separate occasions. the vehicle was no longer under warranty. the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, who stated that the repairs could be done but only at consumer's expense. currently, there were no eom brake lines available. also, the master cylinder was defective. the vehicle had less than 25,000 miles, and 3 brake lines were replaced 3 times. (dual master cylinder failure) the consumer lost all brakes, front and rear. the warning light did not illuminate. at 22k miles, the rear brake line failed along with the master cylinder and the light did not illuminate. at 25k miles, the other front brake line failed along with the master cylinder and the light did not illuminate.  view
