1981 FORD FAIRMONT User Comment / Complaint

While driving in high speeds consumer heard a loud clanking noise coming from the front. consumer applied the brakes, and the vehicle failed to stop completely. vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. there was a gas smell inside of the vehicle, a steering vibration and the oil pan gasket was replaced.  view

While driving 40 mph right rear tire experienced a tread separation. goodyear wrangler ap, aftermarket equipment, tire size 265/70r16, dot# unavailable. goodyear was notified.  view

My 2001 ford windstar van had its transmission replaced at 47,400 miles. the reason that it failed was that the torque converter went and the transmission overheated. i spoke to the service manager and transmission technician about this and the technician said that it was a problem common to this model. i called ford and was told that there wasn't anything that they could do for me. transmissions should not go with less than 48.000miles on them.  view

I rented a 2004 toyota camry with approximately 9400 miles from hertz local edition on n dale mabry ave in tampa fl. about 45 minutes later, i was on my way to orlando with my 11 month old son via interstate 4 when i heard a loud noise coming from the vehicle. i moved over to the last lane so i could take the next exit to check the car when i heard and saw the back left tire explode. due to the explosion the car jerked towards the right so fast that i almost ended up in a large ditch on the side of i-4. i called emergency services and reported the incident and later that day returned the car for a replacement. i had both of the reservationists look at the tire and they confirmed that it looked as if it had exploded from the inside out. i received and email from hertz, which basically stated that their sorry for the problem, they inspect their cars, and sometimes things can happen.  view

On several instances my car has not shifted into a higher gear when taking off from a stop sign. i have taken the car to the dealer twice and they have not found anything wrong. this has happened on the following dates: 9/11, 9/12, 9/20, and twice on 9/23.  view

While driving 5 mph, the front air bags inadvertently deployed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection.  view

Wiring harness break in wagon hatch causing all elec. components to malfunction, lso engine unable to shut off(with key removed from ignition).  view

Gas guage does not register unless the tank is totally full, then it just drops down to empty whenever it wants. i feel that this is a safety hazard due to ending up with an empty gas tank at any time. the only thing that i can do is try to keep track of my miles. this has also happened to a friend of ours whom also owns the same brand of van.  view

On february 3, 2004, thomas ashfield, my husband, was driving to the high school to pick up our daughter. while driving southbound toward the high school two vehicles were traveling north. the first car was traveling at a higher rate of speed than what the elements called for, hitting the second car and shooting the car into ours, broadsiding tom on his driver's side. tom immediately heard a snap. he sustained broken ribs, a torn meniscus , and a herniated disc in his c5/c6. (his first surgery is complete, we are awaiting the second.) the damage to the car was enough to require approximately $8,400.00. during the accident, the side airbag did not deploy. the insurance company wanted a rapid repair. we never thought to get engineers out to look at the damage or to take pictures. we did learn that there had been a problem with the airbag and sensor from the body shop and they said they would retain the components so that hyundai could view them. i wrote to hyundai on april 14, 2004. a representative contacted us the first time in june and then on june 22, 2004, he called again asking for the name of the repair shop. tom gave him the information. the representative called us back and told tom that the repair shop had gotten rid of the parts. that was a shock to us because up until two weeks ago, they told us they would retain it. (we confirmed this with them when the representative first made contact with us.) in addition, from what the representative told tom, the story changed about the defective parts. i do not have the slightest idea of what occurred. something is happening. i want answers. i want to know why the malfunction happened. was this the first time or is it something that is ongoing and nobody is paying attention to. my husband sustained major injuries. we paid for safety features on a new vehicle and they did not work. what will it require for us to receive answers...a death?  view
