I have a 2003 gmc denali that is still on warranty. i took it in to the dealership in august, because the seat belts didn't work correctly. the one on the drivers side didn't always come out and the one on the passenger side would sometimes keep tightening to the point of really hurting, so you would have to take it off and let it go back in and start all over again. the dealership put new seat belts in, but i'm still having the same problems. so i called the dealership and told them about it. they told me that they had contacted general motors several times about similar complants. general motors said that is the way thay are suppose to work. they said i could call general motors myself if i wanted. so i did they said about the one that keeps tightening up is working right once you get into the vehical and buckle up you shouldn't be able to move. i tried to express that you can't even open the glove compartment or pick some thing off the floor. if you have kids you the passenger couldn't even turn to check on them in back. this problem doesn't happen all the time, but sometimes are worst than others. in minnesota it is against the law not to have your seat belt on. this problem makes you take it off and let it back in to get it to work. the drivers side doesn't always want to come out. every other vehical that i've ever been innever worked like this and i've had several general motors. my boss at work has a 2003 silverado that does the same thing. he took his to a different dealership and they oiled them , but his still don't work. i've talked to some service technicians that work for general motors and they told me they have a lot of problems with general motors seat belts. i believe general motors knows there is a problem but are trying to avoid it.
