1981 FORD FAIRMONT User Comment / Complaint

When the consumer started up the vehicle, smoke was coming from underneath the hood area. the vehicle caught fire. the consumer was able to get out and called the fire and police department. the fire was extinguished. no injuries. the vehicle was towed and totaled out by the insurance company. please fill in additional information.  view

When the consumer applied the brakes, the pedal went to the floor. the consumer collided with another driver. both frontal air bags did deploy, but the air bags deployed in the upright position and hit the windshield and caused the windshield to shatter. the vehicle was towed and totaled by the insurance company. please fill in additional information.  view

While traveling at a speed of 55 mph or more, car sways left to right, steering is extremely loose and at time it is hard to control the vehicle from veering. almost as if you are trying to control the car in a wind storm. i purchased this vehicle dec 31, 2003, in the first 45 days i had it to the dealer 3 times, it's now june 2004 and the vehicle has been in 8 times. i am getting absolutely nowhere. they keep telling me there is nothing wrong. but i know better,when i'm driving down the road and the car goes off on it's own. i am very fearful for my safety and the safety of my 22 month old child. some days i can't even bring myself to put him in this car. so what it comes down to is i'm paying for a car i can't even drive because they don't want to do anything about it. something has to be done about all this.  view

Vehicle vibrates at speeds starting at 50 mph through 80 mph. vibration can be felt throughout cabin.  view

Driving on highway down mountain pass accelerator stuck, car would not slow down. could not turn off cruise control. had to use both feet on brakes and use truck emergency turnout to stop. engine was racing.  view

Owner says that the vehicle is experiencing electrical problems. the headlights, tail lights, and the directional signals are malfunctioning. owner took the vehicle to the dealer who has replaced the brake and headlight bulbs on five occassions. however, the problem still occurs. provide further details.  view

Vehicle has 19000 miles on it and the brake rotors are badly scored and rusted, resulting in a pulsating brake pedal and the requirement of greater brake pedal pressure to stop the vehicle. the problem is primarily with the rear brakes, but the front brakes are starting to show the same signs. a recent brake inspection indicates that the brake pads are well within tolerance for wear, but the rotors will not pass pennsylvania state safety inspection in their current condition. i have consulted with at least four other individuals with similar vehicles that have encountered the same problem.  view

1. passenger side doors (front & extended cab door) do not shut tight. the ex-cab door does not lock when shut, it must be closed several times before closing. if it does not close tight, both doors will fly open. 2. wind whistles inside from the unsealed doors.-- 3. drivers side door, wind whistles in due to not being able to be shut sealed tight.-- 4. trailer hitch will not close. the lock is stuck in an open position.  view
