1981 FORD FAIRMONT User Comment / Complaint

Transmission is leaking and new replacement is needed at 76000 miles. concerned about the safety while driving in the highway, and apprently i am not alone for the transmission failure at this low mileage.  view

Three problems - incident date not exact for all problems.1) had vehicle accelerate in nearly wide-open throttle position while braking at a stoplight in heavy traffic. avoided accident by shifting truck into reverse and forward several times before i finally was able to turn off engine. had truck towed to dealership where the throttle body was replaced. since that time i have had throttle stick closed. i contacted dealership and was told carbon deposit was causing problem and they would clean for $100.00. i pulled hose from body and cleaned with carburetor cleaner, which solved problem for present. should gmc fix this problem? 2) parking brake wore prematurely. dealer wants $300.00 to replace. i feel this is a problem experienced by many owners and should be corrected by gmc. 3) have loud engine clacking noise every time vehicle is started after sitting over one hour. dealership informed that engine oil passages were not drilled large enough and that no fix available for problem. i believe that engine failure will occur sometime in the future. does gmc have a solution for this problem? i know many owners are experiencing the same problem.  view

Engine began to leak antifreeze. i was told it was a leaking head gasket. the gasket was cracked and defective. this happened at 80,000 mi. i have the parts.  view

Air conditioner stopped working. i was told that the compressor case cracked and leaked all the coolant.  view

Fuel gauge stopped working/showed full all the time. i was told that the fuel level sensor had gone bad.  view

While driving 45 mph, consumer noticed after depressing the brakes vehicle steering wheel began to shake hard. vehicle was sent to a service technician and said that the brake rotors needed to be replaced.  view

Consumer received a recall notice(04v357000) for cam shaft position sensor. dealer refused to do the work. the dealer refused to honor stating that the part number didn't match the number on file.  view

01 v 288 000/instrument cluster: consumer has a concern that the dealer requesting authorization from the consumer for an 11/2 hours for diagnostic check at consumer cost. recall notice mention nothing concerning a charge to the consumer. please provide any further information.  view

My son and his girlfriend were in a serious roll over car accident in her 2000 saab hatchback. the car was totaled. none of the airbags deployed, neither front nor side, even though there was substantial impact and damage on front and sides.  view

Consumer noticed after depressing the gas pedal to merge on to freeway vehicle started hesitating and shifted into full throttle. please provide further information.  view
