There's a grinding noise in the steering wheel when making a left turn or reversing. the mechanic indicated that the right upper ball joint was bad and needed to be replaced.  view

Upper control arm and ball joints had been replaced twice within 22,000 miles.  view

Clutch pedal would not engage as designed. on several occasions it failed. twice in traffic and one after coming to a complete stop. used excessive force to engage, for it would engage after repeated stomping on the clutch pedal. however, the last time it would not engage, i used both feet too engage it, hoping that the for to mentioned would occur, it did not. the entire clutch plate on the fire wall broke. this led to the sudden collapse of the pedal which slammed into the floor and snapped both knees and buckled my left hip which i now have recurring injuries which has now forced me to leave the trucking industry. the shop supervisor explained to me that this has happened on several volvo trucks and he has had to replace them for the cylinder that controls the clutch lever rods have a problem with rust and other containments which can cause the level rod that control the clutch pedal too freeze up, which stops the clutch from engaging. this is caused by the cylinder having too much open space on the top before a rubber seal which is lower inside to stop the rust, water, and contaniments from causeing problems with clutch operation. volvo has a replacement for this and did in fact replace it with another corrected cylinder at the time of my injuries.  view

Consumer states while her child was attempting to get out of the safety seat, the child drew her knees up and popped the plastic piece that hold the seat. she states she called the manufacturer, and was told that since the seat is more than 90 days old, and there is no replacement part, they will not replace the seat. consumer states that the seat is not that old. the model is an evenflo model # 3661311, and it was manufactured in 10/02.  view

Torsion bar on driver's side of 1998 expedition broke apart causing the left side of the vehicle to lean and cause extreme difficulty controlling the car. the break looks like it happened on a seam and rust was inside-clearly pointing to a breach in the manufacture of this part.  view

The transmission output shaft has failed for the second time on my 1991 dodge stealth rt turbo. when this failure occurs, power is no longer transmitted to the rear wheels which causes the car to "torque steer". basically even moderate acceleration can cause the car to unpredictably veer to the left or right.  view

Intake manifold began leaking at 45000 miles (500 dollars to replace), have replaced the brakes and rotors 4 times in 65,000 miles. the turn signals quit working. while driving down the road the engine just dies. if i let it sit for a while it will crank back up. ase mechanic told me it was the ignition module, so i paid to have it replaced and that did not fix it. i have been reviewing forums on-line and have discovered that this is a wide spread and severe problem, i understand normal wear and tear on a vehicle but this is ridiculous. and last but not least, the fan switch has quit working on positons (speeds) 1 and 2...that happened when the car had about 37,000 miles on (not under factory warranty) ....i once was a die hard chevy man..thanks to this car i will not buy another gm product.  view

Our 2001 acura mdx (with approx. 25000 miles) stops running abruptly when driving for no apparrent reason, resulting in engine shut down, loss of power steering, loss of brakes and all systems. this vehicle has been to the dealer for repair 2 times, and is being towed again today, april 10, 2004 for the 3rd time in one month. dealer repair service unable to determine cause on 1rst occasion march 12, 2004. second occasion march26, 2004 resulted in a replacement of the air contol valve and it's adjustment ( # 16022-pba-ao3) this obviously did not fix the problem. we now fear for our lives to drive this vehicle. no matter what the third repair attempt outcome, we will get rid of this vehicle.  view

I have a 2004 f-150 (extended cab). while taking off, turning left or right- you will feel a vibration in the rear. this developed approx. 1 month after receiving the new truck. i have returned the vehicle to my service department, and the service manager felt the vibration as well. he ordered a whole new rear axle assembly, and this was replaced. he explained this problem was due to when turning- one wheel is moving faster than the other, which sometimes causes this vibration if it was not properly lubricated. i felt the vibration more when the vehicle was cold, and the axle was not warm. after the first repair, the new axle worked fine- but the problem has returned- approx. 1 month later. i only have 6500 miles on the truck, and this will be it's 3rd rear axle. if any one else is experiencing this, my vehicle's rear end was replaced, and will need to be repaired again.  view

I have had several problems with my vechicle not starting and the dealer has told me several different reasons. back in may 2003 is suppose to have been the computer codes were inproperly put into my car but now in march 2004 it is my ignition switch which a friend of mine has had the same problem but it was a recall on her car year.  view

At 53000 the upper ball joints on my 2001 dalota quad cab needed to be replaced. the fact i caught this defect early i'm certain prevented an accident. perhaps even a fatality. dodge engineering seems to be somewhat faulty in this case compunded by the fact that i'm not alone with this problem.  view

I was informed by my mechanic that the ball joints on my truck are defective. after being told this i saw the news the other night regarding the dodge durangos, and the tiers falling off do to the ball joints. my mechanic also told me that they needed to be taken care of. with a big price tag i was wondering what can be done about this. I own a 1995 mercury villager. i purchased the vehicle from a used car dealer. since i purchased this vehicle three years ago, i have had a recurrent problem with smelling gas fumes in the passenger compartment of the van. i have taken the van to a ford dealership, an independent mechanic, a chevrolet dealership, and an independent service station. no one seems to be able to locate the source of the gas smell. i am concerned about my safety and the safety of my children. gas fumes are volatile, and if they are strong enough for me to detect the odor, then i feel the van is unsafe to drive. i have tried several times to have the problem repaired, but no one seems able to detect the source of the problem. i have contacted ford motor company directly, but i received very little information from them. i have read several complaints on the internet of other vehicle owners with the same problem. i have read where other vehicle owners have contacted ford motor company regarding this problem. when i called ford, they told me they had received no other complaints of this type. i feel there is a problem that should be investigated. my main concern is the safety issue of driving a defective vehicle.  view

Raw gas odor in exhaust, sometimes exhaust has foul odor, engine runs rough at times. was taken to dealer in april 2003, could find nothing wrong in their diagnostics, symptoms have slowly gotten worse over time. suspect latent defect in fuel injection system causing a fuel leak inside of engine (intake manifold). since a dlealer can't find the problem with normal diagnostics, this is an obvious emissions control defect as well as a potential safety defect. this would affect all vehicles with this engine, this defect is not specific to this model.  view

My bmw-525 ia year 2001.( vin#wbadt 43481-gf-59688) on d/4/7/04 around 7.45 pm my wife pulled into the parking lot, all of a sudden the vehicle accelerated on its own at high speed & passed over the grass, shrubs and hit the cement wall. my wife & me were in the car. we both were injured,the car is damaged, both air bags deployed. i have complained to bmw about this also and would like nhtsa to see any such complaints made by any bmw car owners.  view

I have michelin tires on a 1996 fleetwood motor home and out of 4,000 miles i have had 2 blow outs. michelin denies warranty claims tires were run low on air pressure. this is not true. 2 other motorhome owners within 25 miles of this area are experencing the same problem. ashley garris had 2 blow outs and warranty problem with michelin. harry merredith also same problem with 3 blow outs. both are filing a claim with your office. conversation with others on the road many i have found at least 6 others on the road with problems with michelin tires on motorhomes. no paticular home all different makes and models. the concern is safety in which this could cause a head on colision or a loss of control with fatalities to our family. this is also getting to be expensive to the point of having to call for road service to chg tire and then to purchase a spare for back up. not to mention the lost times sitting beside the road.i contacted michelin direct after their representive filed his report and thats when they advised of the low air pressure problem. all tires checked by dealer before trip and always set at proper pressure. discussion with several dealers 2 are michelin dealers suggest michelin does not want to admitt of a problem. thank you, danny williams.  view

Consumer took vehicle to mechanic and was informed that the lower lateral arm ball joints needed replacement. the air conditioner idler was replaced. when the consumer took the vehicle back to the dealer, the consumer was told when the air conditioner unit was replaced the recall regarding the lower lateral ball joints was performed, however the consumer was not aware that there was a recall or even that the work was done. the ball joints need to be replaced again, however the dealer stated it was the consumer's responsibility.  view

Ball joints have failed after 29,000 miles. i brought it to the dealership twice complaining of the problem. they told me that there was not a problem and did not fix it. i took the truck to another mechanic he determined that it was a ball joint issue. the vehical is now out of warrantee, and i am affaid that the dealership is going to ask me to pay for the fix. i am waiting for the dealership to contact me.  view

We had a deep snow storm last month and i got my 2001 mustang gt convertible stuck in the snow in my driveway. each time i tried to rock the vehicle back and forth to free it from the deep snow, the engine would power down. i finally realized that the "electronic traction control" was causing this. i turned it off and was able to free the vehicle. i think there is a connection between this and the brake problem i described before which caused me to hydro-plane and spin out in heavy rain. i wrote to you 12-24-03 with that complaint.  view

While driving consumer can hear a loud squeaking noise coming from the rear shocks. dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. shocks were replaced under warranty, but problem still exists, which is now followed by an oil leak and bouncing of vehicle. consumer would like the shocks to be redesigned.  view

While driving 55 mph, both frontal air bags inadvertently went off. the driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle and pull over. both passenger was not hurt. the driver drove the vehicle to the dealer for inspection. the driver will notify the dealer and insurance company. please fill in additional information.  view

The consumer received two recall letter on june 2002, and january 3, 2004, recall #02v120000 and 02v43000. the dealership still does not have the parts available to conduct the recall.  view

1998 escort not getting enough gas into the engine. changed fuel filter, had fuel injectors looked at, got premium gas, no luck. the car idles extremely roughly and shakes uncontrollably. it feels like it wants to stall and bucks when idling and even while driving. the idle is becoming worse and worse to the point where i feel uncomfortable driving the vehicle. this used to happen periodically, now shakes and bucks everytime i drive the car. i am a poor college student and can not afford to continue taking it to a mechanic.  view

I would like to complain about the seatbelts in toyota tacoma trucks. i own a 1999 tacoma, and i have many friends with toyota's from around the same year and we all have problems with our seat belts. the button that keeps the buckle from sliding to the floor is broken off in nearly all vehicles; the seat belt does not retract and often hangs out the door, and thus is exposed to the elements when the truck is parked, and damages the door when it is shut without noticing the belt is hanging; many friends have found that with normal use the belt is wearing thin and threadbare, and even under warranty toyota will not replace it.  view

While driving down a hill, the driver applied the brakes. the pedal went to the floor and continued to pick up speed. the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree. both frontal air bags did deploy. the driver was not hurt. the vehicle was totaled. the hill was approximately 2 1/2 blocks and the consumer would normally drive down the hill with the brakes applied.  view

While driving at any speed the service engine soon light would come on and stay on. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who found that the mass air flow meter was defective.  view

Owner was driving about 20-30 mph. when making a turn, vehicle completely shut down loosing all power. vehicle was towed to a local mechanic. the problem was undetermined, at this time. it was later determined that the engine failed due to sludge build up. the engine light did not illuminate to indicate any type of failure. the technician said that many 2.7 liter engines have this problem.  view

Clutch failure: my truck has been in the shop multiple times for the malfunctioning of the clutch. the clutch has to be pumped up during long periods of non-use i.e. long highway driving or parked. the dealership has replaced the slave cylinder twice, once under warranty, once owner paid.  view

Yamaha roadstar gas tank washer and transmission recalls. i purchased my motorcycle in june 2003. i later found out about a recall to the gas tank which should have been taken care of on my bike before sale. i have never received any notice to this date. my biggest complaint however is that apparently there was a recall on this bike for transmission back in august 2003. i got a letter in february 2004. this major work is to be done at a dealership. no warranty has been offered. no parts to repair are available till march/april. yamaha have advised not to use until work done. to date i have not been able to ride for 3 months since i first heard about the recall in december and will not be able to ride till who knows when??  view

After the dealership replaced the lower pinion bearing as stated in recall 03v527000 the vehicle had a severe pull to the right and the steering wheel was hard to control. the consumer took the vehicle back to the dealership. the dealership then replaced the steering gear because they indicated the replacement of the lower pinion steering caused the steering gear to fail. the problem still exist.  view

On wednesday march 31 2004 my husband noticed that our parking lights and dashboard lights were not coming on. then we discovered that they would work only if the rear defroster was on. we took the car to our mechanic who suspected a short and discovered broken and exposed wires in the hatch. he rewired the car. i went on line and found that 2000 ford focuses had been recalled for this type of problem (nhtsa campaign id number: 00v411000). i called ford's customer service hotline and was told that this recall did not apply to my vehicle's vin number but to hold on to my receipt in case the recall was broadened. when i asked him why my car wasn't included even though other ford focuses had the same problem he said that it was probably just a coincidence.  view

After i replaced a failed battery in our 2000 honda civic, the car ran rough after getting warm and stalled twice in traffic. while no one suffered more than rattled nerves in this case, it is possible that someone could be injured or killed in such circumstances. i subsequently found from the dealer at a cost of $162 that the car loses track of its idle setting when the battery is replaced and it has to be re-entered. this information is not in the owners manual. this is both a stupid and unsafe design, let alone expensive. changing a battery is a common and ordinarily simple procedure practiced by millions of people. i think honda should have to send warning car owners of this "feature" of their car and how to reset the code them selves or with instruction to take it to a dealer who will reset it at no cost. alternatively, honda should be required to retrofit the cars with non volatile memory so the car does not require such service. i don't know when this feature was added to honda designs, but it does not happen on our earlier model. our experience may be just the tip of a coming iceberg.  view

Several incidents of frames cracking not included in existing recall. new cracks are not a result of weak welds but actual frames cracking. i am concerned that these are being overlooked as a result of current recall for different area of the bike.  view

Consumer called and complained about brakes, intermittently at every 600 miles average, the abs system need to be replaced at consumer's expenses. dealer indicated that consumer needed to clean the sensor and the bearing,. also, they stated that gmc and nhtsa has a tsb on this issues.  view

Whether this is a complaint leaves me to wonder about the ball joints on the durangos--i have a 1999 durango which i get serviced by a independent mechanic and just made me aware that the ball joints on my durango don't look good and i should think about getting it fixed in the future???? with the hipe in the media leaves me to wonder if there is a chance on a recall on this particular part????  view

On january 5, 2004 i tried to stop my 2000 gmc jimmy (suv), instead of stopping, the jimmy picked up speed and resulted in a three car crash. two of the cars (my jimmy and a 1995 mercury) were totaled and the other car (a honda runner suv)had damage totaling $11,000. althought i was driving 35 mph, when my car hit the car in front of it (the roasrunner), neither of the airbags in my jimmy were deplyed. luckily, no one was hurt in this accident. the mechanics at henderson chevy in las vegas informed me that the abs system failed miserably. as for the airbags, they did not have a clue. i contacted gmc and filed a formal complaint. their investigators came to the dealer and authorized some work on the jimmy so as to assess the damage and the reasons for the crash. as of this writing, i have not received any reports from gmc. i have tried, repeatedly, to contact gmc but no one would return my calls. i also demanded that the results of their investigation be sent to me in writing. this request was, also, ignored.  view

On january 5, 2004 i tried to stop my 2000 gmc jimmy (suv), instead of stopping, the jimmy picked up speed and resulted in a three car crash. two of the cars (my jimmy and a 1995 mercury) were totaled and the other car (a honda runner suv)had damage totaling $11,000. althought i was driving 35 mph, when my car hit the car in front of it (the roasrunner), neither of the airbags in my jimmy were deplyed. luckily, no one was hurt in this accident. the mechanics at henderson chevy in las vegas informed me that the abs system failed miserably. as for the airbags, they did not have a clue. i contacted gmc and filed a formal complaint. their investigators came to the dealer and authorized some work on the jimmy so as to assess the damage and the reasons for the crash. as of this writing, i have not received any reports from gmc. i have tried, repeatedly, to contact gmc but no one would return my calls. i also demanded that the results of their investigation be sent to me in writing. this request was, also, ignored.  view

At approximately 55k (5/03) miles i had to spend $1662 for work on my dodge durango's differential. it has been my experience that these types of problems don't come up until way over 100k+ miles. then 11/03 it was mandatory that i replace all 4 ball joints. this also doesn't seem right since the car only had approximately 65k miles on it at that time. you would think when you take your auto to the dealer for all its scheduled maintenance and having spent $35k on it new, one wouldn't be having these sorts of expensive problems.  view

While in the driveway vehicle was parked and consumer heared a loud noise coming from the garage. left front strut broke and cut the front tire, vehicle was no longer under warranty.  view

My 2000 grand am gt has had numerous brake/rotor problems. there is a loud grinding noide from the front, even with new pads and rotors. will never buy another pontiac again.  view

Since purchased the horn does not blow when you push on the designated spot on the steering wheel. you must 'search' for a spot to push that the horn will then blow. this is 'hit or miss'. it may blow and it may not. the dealer has done all that he can do to correct the problem which is to push on various locations on the steering wheel and say you should push there. the best he can do. i have lodged strenuous complaints with buick and they assigned it "request number 1-200878647 and it has been handled generally by a mr. sean armstrong. my last correspondence with them they said they had done all they could do, which so far has been nothing, and for me to take other steps. i assume they mean to go to court. i believe that this 'undependable' horn function could lead to an accident and possibly death to someone. it should not be allowed and i should not have to resort to the legal process to get it to work as it should. buick has manh complaints on this function i have learned. your experience and knowledge should prove most helpful in my making a decision as to what to do. if you call perry buick service manager (mr. timothy perry) he can explain. perry buick is outstanding and i am not complaining about their service. they do not design the auto. this buick park avenue ultra has everything you could possibly want in a today car except a horn that will blow when asked to blow. your knowledge will be gratefully received. kind regards, john mesick.  view

Electrical short or shock in the ignition switches, causing the battries to die, placed the ignition switches twice.  view

Brake light failure....repeated burnt out bulbs on drivers side brake lamp switch control module for 4x4 replaced under warranty at 34,000 miles. module has acted "quirky" since replacement. i have experienced temporary failure which corrected itself by next day. possible loose wire???  view

#3 spark plug blew out at 67,000 miles. original plugs from manufacture with all factory parts. spoke with several ford mechanics and others who have extensive work on this problem. ford acknowledges no design errors. i found online that this has happened to several ford owners with the 5.4 l v8 and the v10 engine and on occasion with 4.6l v8. this appears to me to be a design flaw that ford should have recalled.  view

1999 dodge dakota.i purchased my vehicle new in late 1998. in the five years i have owned it, i have had to replace two ball joints in the right front. currently, a metal-on-metal squeak exists in the right front, and i believe it is a ball joint. i have lubricated all pivot points and joints, but cannot lubricate the ball joints. the squeak still exists. here has been no incident as of this date. i only filled in the incident date below with today's because it is a required field.  view
