While driving the plastic intake manifold failed which caused coolant to leak inside the engine and resulted in the vehicle overheating. the dealer was notified. please provide further information.  view

Vehicle is a new 2003 pt-turbo gt w/auto stick, air, etc. vehicle is the very first new vehicle that my wife has ever owned. i bought it for her as a xmas gift in dec., 2002. since february 2003, the vehicle continues to overheat. it has had numerous parts replaced from theromstat/cooling fan and its theromstat switch, trans-cooler (turbo), water pump, etc. vehicle has been in the shop for almost 11 weeks. both the zone and the manufacturer has been contacted by dealership, and they responded on previous trips into the service bay. my wife actually was able to drive it for almost 5 1/2 weeks after receiving the vehicle back from dealership. then, on sunday, 20 july 2003, the vehicle overheated again!! my wife drove it to victorville motors (local chrysler dealer, victorville, ca) on monday, 21 july and there it has been since. we understood that it was the water pump again and the dealer was waiting for the zone and/or mfg to contact them to see what else could be done to rectify this anomalous condition. either in design and just a bad engine. block is iron, water pump and heads are aluminum. engine has overheated into the red line so many times, the block and other components have been severly heat stressed. my wife recently (jan 2003) discovered she had renal esrd (total kidney failure) and is currently doing dialysis. we live in victorville, ca and she must drive to fontanna, ca kaiser hospital for her treatments. approximately 40 miles each way climbing through a desert mountain pass, elevation 4340 ft. she requires a reliable vehicle and at this point in time, she does not have one. my wife could be stranded in the middle of a desert mountain pass with this problem vehicle. all we have asked for is chrysler replace the entire engine....my wife has wanted this dream car. for over 2-years. it..."..thank you........ron & gwen repass.  view

I drive a 2002 toyota camry le purchased august 2002, automatic transmission. sometimes when i step on the brake my foot also presses the gas pedal and the car jumps forward a few feet before i regain control and stop it. the brake pedal and gas pedal are too close together and/or their height from the floor or range of motion are bad. i have been driving for 50 years, haven't had this problem significantly before. my last car was a '92 ford taurus - had no similar problem with it. i am tall, have big feet - size 12 or 13 shoes. i am afraid i might accidentally hit a pedestrian who stepped in front of my car, or bump into another car when i am moving back and forth while parking or turning in tight locations. otherwise the car is good, but this problem is bad enough that i would buy another car now if the loss from one year's depreciation was not as high. you (nhtsa) might have statistics that would permit you to check this out, then get toyota to redesign the pedals.  view

Since new i have complained about a wobbling when braking my gold wing. the various dealerships have stated time and again that "the problem was not evident". on january 3, 2003 i was riding my 2002 gl1800a at highway speed when i lightly applied my rear brake pedal to "check my speed" and the bike wobbled violently causing me to crash and subsequently cause almost $10,000 damage to my bike, as well as personal injury. the bike was "fixed" only to have the problem resurface several times. honda has stated they "have no clue" as to how to repair the motorcycle.  view

While driving at undetermined speed van suddenly/abruptly started going into reverse. in attempt to stop the van gear shifter was moved from drive to park, but the van continued in reverse. emergency brake was the only function that stopped the van from movement.  view

Consumer's son was stuck in the car seat due to buckle not releasing. consumer had to take child to the fire station to be released.  view

While driving the vehicle at any speed and without any prior warning vehicle will stall. consumer made contact with the dealer on four separate occasions, but problem still occurs.  view

I have a 2001 nissan xterra, purchased in july 2001. the window regular motor quit working on one of the rear windows, with less than normal use. this happened within 100 miles out of warranty.  view

The door latch buttons on the sliding doors(where my children sit) have gotten stuck. i think the problem is related to heat (days where the car sits in the sun with temps of 95+). when the button is stuck the door either ( may not latch or may not open). if anything happened to my children because of this known and documented door latch failure, i hold toyota responsible. 30aug03 our family was going to our pool (it was a hot day). we all got in the van. my daughter closed the siding door. uh-oh the button is stuck , the door wont close and latch. our trip in this van is over. i stayed with the van, called our toyota dealer and scheduled a time to repair the door. toyota could not recreate the sticking button and will not fix or replace. this was the third time the button stuck.  view

I was driving home from a weekend away, i was on i95 north near mile marker 120.00 traveling about 15-20mph when traffic came to a complete stop, i made a complete stop and the car behind me hit me goin gabout 15mph and pushed me into the suv in front of me the first impact pushed my passenger and myself forward and then the second impact of us hitting the suv in front of us pushed us back...both of our seats gave way and we were in lying postions. we hadent even realized what had happened until we sat up from the lying postion. i am assumming that the seats broke and thats why they gave way, i dont think that that is a safety feature and should be addressed as soon as possible. i was driving a 2002 vw cabrio glx.  view

19'97 taurus, like many of the ford & other product lines, have the gas filler pipe on the starboard side. with the fuel delivery system almost completely gohne to self-serve, this bastard arrangement generates confusion in busy service stations leading to a great potential for fuel spills and fires. all cars, even if they think the european location is "cute" should be mandated to have fuel fill pipe location on the port side of the vehicle. reduce confusion. increase safety.  view

I have 1999 honda prelude that came with bridgestone potenza p205/50 vr16 re92 tires. the left rear tire broke away from the side wall. the car (tires) has only 33,800 miles on it. all tires show cracks on the side walls. these tires are dangerious, the side wall should not fail apart.  view

On august 11, 2003 i took my car into koons ford of annapolis, to have the have the ignition switch took at, because the key would not turn. i was told my service manager mike sheckells, the service advisor pete, and factory tech: 063 - randall bounds, and a cashier that this has been a major problem with most of the ford focus, i feel this i should be on a recall notice if its has been a major problem with the focuses. that the consumers should not have to pay for a major defect with these vechicle. also, i had my focus in koons for of annapolis, on may 10, 2003, to have new brakes, oil change and transmission problems. on the transmission problems because it was a intermittent that they could not find any thing. on july 25, 2003, i left my car for service on the transmission because it was slipping out of gear completely. they had the car until august 7, 2003, which they put in a remfg transmission and c. i left koons for with 1.5 miles on the trip meter, i went another 17.1 miles went the transmissions surged, i e-mailed mike sheckell on august 8, 2003 which he did not answer as of this day. i talked to mike sheckell on august 11, about this problem and the answer i get is they can not do any except to let some one go on at test dive with me. this is not the answer because it's a intermitten problem and some one would have to drive it for a few day before the transmission would surged againg. i have kept record of this problem is surged at 18.5 miles, 93 miles and at 250.0 miles on the trip meter. i feel the transmission was not fixed and fixed right and also, feel that this is a safety problem. i have done business with koons for of annpolis for over 20 years. my daughter is scared to ride in this car now, and i do not feel safe in the car neither. i have never had this type of bad service or incompetent service before, i also feel they are just telling me anything, because of being a female.  view

My subaru outback has dripped a little oil from the front ever since i bought the car new and had a burning smell. i took it back 2 times in the first year but they didn't do anything except tell me it was transit paint burning off. i took it back when i was 1000 miles out of my warranty because it was worse and smelled burning more. they told me it was the oil pump seal but wouldn't cover it under warranty. they said if i had been having regular work done through the dealer they might have been able to work something out. since then it is worse and the burning smell is very bad. i know of 2 other subaru legacy's with the same problem and a $500 to $700 fix. i was also told by a mechanic that there have been some fires in subarus due to this problem and dripping on the catalytic convertor.  view

Front disc barkes - rotors warped at 38,000 miles. the vehicle began shaking badly when braking and stopping time was greatly affected due to this condition. the dealer said that the only way to remove the shaking was to turn the rotors at a cost of $170. dealer also indicated that pads only had 45% wear and advisied that this condition would not cause any problems and to just wait until pads are worn enough to warrant a brake job. i replaced pads and rotors immediately as this condition is dangerous and common to this vehicle. i feel a recall of the front rotors is in order. this condition affects stopping time!!  view

Evenflo model # 3661367p1, cover on the shield came off the child restraint seat, and consumer noticed cracks in the shield. manufacturer was contacted, who stated that this problem would not affect the safety of the seat.  view

While driving 45 mph with two passengers, consumer noticed smoke coming from vent near the rear sliding door. consumer pulled over to the curb and waited 2 minutes, then checked under the hood to try to find the problem for the smoke. no problem was found, but while getting back into vehicle, the consumer noticed smoke spewing from the rear right side wheels. consumer barely removed passengers from vehicle when vehicle went up in flames. there were no injuries, but the vehicle was totaled. police and fire department were notified. flames started shooting from under the hood.  view

Consumer called complaining about front windshield. the lamination in between the window is deteriorating because it started to bulb it up, and it gives her a headache when driving.  view

I have just taken in our 99 montana and have learned that i have an engine gasket leak. this will be the 2nd gasket leak the engine has incurred. the first one was a head gasket and this most recent gasket is a lower intake. the reason this concerns me is that i had a dear friend have an automobile issue where he had to pull over on the side of the highway. it happened to be friday with heavy traffic. too make a long story short, while he went out for repairs his vehicle was rear ended while on the side of the road and he lost his first son and his second son had brain damage. the reason i bring this up is because i've been lucky as far as catching these gasket issues in their early stages of failure. i could have been that guy stuck on the highway with a gasket that has failed, not once but maybe twice. it seems obvious that gm has a serious gasket issue with this particular engine and are not concerned about their customer's families safety.  view

My three-year-old 32lb son is able to completely remove both the chest clip and three point seat belt on his britax roundabout car seat. these were supposed to be the safest car seats on the market. a child restraint system should be child proof and not enable the child to free himself of the safety restraints! with twins, i have paid over $400 for these car seats and expected high quality to go with the high price.  view

Because i'm not the original owner they have refused to repair my car. i've put alot of money in my car and i'm still having problems with it. from it cutting off when i stop to constantly having to get my rotors turn . i would like to know how can i get help? they don't even send me recall notices. i was surfing the net tonight and most of the problems i have with my car it's listed in the recall list.my car is a 1993 ford tempo.please help me as soon as you can before i have a major accident( my brakes act like they don't wont to stop).thank you for hearing me out. sincerely audrey buroughs.  view

Drivers side seat recline lever broke off. the seat is unable to move forward, preventing access to the rear from the drivers side. the metal is too weak and at an awkward position. the dealer will not replace, even through this is an obvious faulty part as the replacement part is designed with a thicker metal.  view

Powertrain failure transmission felt like it dropped into neutral and then would not respond. family mechanic inspected vehicle and the transmission was completely locked up..$2000. later transmission was replaced..if this is such a "known issue" with these vehicles why doesnt ford do something to compensate their customers? i used to be a ford gal but not anymore!!!  view

Vehicle stalls when going down a hill in four wheel low. this happened in winter causing passenger and i to spin out of control and crash into snow bank. dealer has looked at 4 times, replacing several parts and doing a complete tune up. chrysler has sent a tech up to look at it as well. the dealer nor chrysler can figure this out now they are claiming it is normal for the vehicle to do this. we have tested other dodge durangos and chysler vehicles in the same place and none of them do this.  view

Vehicle in service 11/02. at 12,000 miles one rotor replaced under warranty due to brake pulsation. at 15,000 miles brakes squealed when applied at slow speeds (good pads). light brake pulsation started at 24,000 miles. rotors turned at 33,350 miles due to heavy brake pulsation in steering wheel. at 35,787 was told both front rotors needed to be replaced as they were warped. have owned two previous disk brake chrysler products and had poor performance in reference to pulsating brakes that i have not had from gm or ford products. friends that have chrylser vehicles have same brake pulsation problem. contacted chrysler customer service and asked to speak to a supervisor and was denied. chrysler complaint # 11578986. would not assist at all in resolving issue with brakes.  view

I purchased a 2003 toyota 4 runner in november 2002. this vehicle omits a sulfur smell that is easily detectable and horrible to have to smell when driven. it plain stinks. it stinks with all windows up. it stinks worse with the side windows or sunroof open. i complained to the dealer the day after purchasing the vehicle. i have brought the 2003 4runner to the dealer numerous times and emailed complaints about the sulfur smell to toyota usa to address the fact emissions were entering the cabin. i even met with a regional tech from toyota usa on two occasions. each time toyota failed to remedy the problem of emissions entering the cabin of the 2003 4runner. the sulfur smell being omitted into the cabin is awful to breath for not only myself, but anyone else traveling with me. i have no idea what health hazard the sulfur smell poses or what other emissions must be entering the cabin. i have been complaining to toyota for almost one year about this problem, and recently i learned the issue of emissions entering the cabins of other the 2003 4runner is being widely reported by other 2003 toyota 4runner owners. toyota has failed to remedy this design defect with me, or address the health/safety issue of emissions entering the cabin with me. the 2003 toyota 4runner is defective and should be recalled to effectively correct the fact that emissions are entering the cabin of the vehicle. in addition, toyota has been firm in their position that the vehicle is operating correctly, they are covering up a known defect and need to be held accountable. i would appreciate a response from nhtsa. thank you and best regards, bill valentine.  view

I was driving along in my 2002 subaru wrx wagon on some local roads and i was coming up to a stop on some rough pavement , giving myself plenty of room to stop when the abs kicked in and then my pedal dropped to the floor and the car wasn't stopping. it finally bounced a few times and the car came to a stop- far beyond where it was supposed to have. i have encountered this issue many times and i feel, as others do, the abs on this model vehicle is simply an accident waiting to happen- and many have been involved in such as a result.  view

May 8, 2003:odometer 45,428 miles. check engine dash light on. vehicle left with dealship who stated that the code read "gas and/or vapor leak" but was unable to locate it at this time. was advised that it was ok to drive until i could return vehicle at alter date. aug 13 2003 i filled up tank, normally have @ 3/4 tank of gas, and after driving 5 miles home found gas running off the tank onto drive way, had to get pans to contain it. aug 14 dealership took in vehicle and replaced the sending module at a cost of $600.00 +. was advised it "was a good thing to fill it up as it isolated the problem".  view

I have a 2003 pontiac grand am gt coupe that i bought new. it has been in the shop twice since may when i bought it. the problem was that pontiac's lancing plant did not finish the car befor they put it out for sale. there were ground wires missing and some that were not connected or hooked up backwards. this caused several different problems including having the alternator and battery ruined. i called pontiac to get the address of the plant that made the car so i could report the problem to them and was treated like i was stupid buy ean dunkin the person on the phone. they offered a smart care package plan for up to 12000 miles as compinsation for the inconvenience. i became upset by the way the man was talking to me and asked for a $1000 rebate and the service package. he told me he would have to call back. when he did he said no and withdrew the offer for the service package. i asked to speak to a supervisor and with in an hour i had a contact phone number and accepted the service package. i just got the letter and it says that it will take 8 weeks to process. by then i will have had two oil changes as it is due for another and the 12000 mile limit they put on will be almost over.  view

The consumer stated that while driving there's was a sizzling noise coming from the engine compartment. the plastic or cellophane sealant strip for the carburetor gasket located between the carburetor and throttle came unsealed and fell off. this caused gasoline to pour out onto the engine block. this could have resulted in a fire of explosion in the engine block. please provide more detail information.  view

The vehicle's door locks experienced the defect stated in recall 90 v 184 000 but it's vin was outside of the remedy scope. the dealership refused to repair the door.  view

I bought the 2001 honda accord v6 in june, after a year i had intermittent abs light on and off, i had this abs light on/off since aug 2002 (which is still under warranty period), had the dealer checked and they found no problem until recently in june of 2003, the same problem occurred again and this time i took it to a different dealer to diagnostic (which i have to pay $100 since the warranty expired), they consulted with american honda, and had the abs module replaced under customer assist warranty, the symptom was gone for a day but with sponge brake and have to bring back to dealer to re-bleed the brake again, with sponge brake pedal the brakes completely bled, and abs light was on. techician diagnostic with no dtc on the scanner but the abs light was on, guess what...they reset it and let me drive home and told me drive safely. in aug 10th 2003 (which is less than a month) the abs light is on/off again, i called up the dealer that perform the repaired and they request i let them had the car a day to find out what's going on, aug 19th and they returned the car to me un repair and saying i have an electrical issue on the abs brake, they want me to pay 2-3 hours of labor to tear apart my car to find out the problem, i called up american honda again...no help because of the warranty is expired and they will see if the problem is their then they will cover the repair under warranty. i was totally upset about this situation. this is my 1st and will be my last honda, i will get rid it soon. so far...i visited the dealer 5 times for the same problem.  view

While driving at 45 mph the vehicle was involved in a head on collision. the air bags did not deploy nor did the seat belts properly restrain the driver. as a result the driver sustained serious injuries. please provide additional information.  view

One of seven spokes on left front alloy wheel/rim is cracked all the way through. right rear wheel/rim is starting to crack (showing on top surface). local ford dealer said there are no recalls on this item. one local used auto parts distributer said he was not allowed to sell this type of rim because of potential liability suits. another used parts distributer said he gets several request a month for the same rim. based on the number of complaints, ford should recall the rims before failures/fatalities.  view

March 17 2001 is the date that i purchased my kia rio since then i have had nothing but multiple problems. my biggest complaint is the transmission it jerks between gears and shakes horribly when i go over 50mph. every time i have taken it in they tell me there is nothing wrong. i have a friend who also has the same year and model car as i and her engine has blown up twice. i have never been so afraid to drive a vehicle.  view

I own a 2000 chevy silverado 4x4. i have a continuing problem with the anti lock brake system. the truck has a problem stopping at slow speeds. when i depress the brake pedal at slow speed to stop the anti locks start to release as if the wheels were locking up. this causes me to either go thru the stop sign or to come very close to running into what ever is in front of me. the brakes eventually stop the truck but i have had some close calls. the truck has been to the dealer and had a right front wheel sensor replaced. this helped at first. the problem has started to surface again. i will have to make another visit to the dealer, which is very costly, $300 + per visit. this problem occurs without warning is very dangerous. does the nhtsb plan on doing anything about this problem? i know of a coworker that has had the same problem and almost wreaked his truck. thanks et.  view

I have a power assisted seat. i slowly began to notice that there is a rocking motion, it is very noticeable when i brake or accurate. it seems to get worst and i took it to the dealer who stated that they had another vehicle like mine and that it had the same motion. they stated that it was normal. if the rocking gets any worst, it may give the driver a different feel of the vehicle which may cause him to react incorrectly in different situations and cause an accident.  view
