2002 subaru impreza wrx loss of brake power during braking application as the vehicle travels over dry and uneven or bumpy road surfaces... must disengage from the brake application and reapply the brakes to begin slowing down the vehicle... repeatable occurrences.  view

Consumer states vehicle door locks unexpectely causing consumer to break a window to release the occupants. dealer notified. please provide additional information.  view

Per owner manual, engine should hold 12 quarts of oil. a change was made to the dip stick by the manufacturer, which increases the oil intake to 14 quarts. consumer wasn't notified of the change. this resulted in engine failure, do to insignificant oil consumption.  view

The steering wheel locks when applying pressure to the brake pedal. the consumer called the manufacturer and has been to the dealer several times. at 14,000 miles the dealer installed a new power steering pump. the dealer also stated this is normal for this truck. please provide details.  view

Consumer states both rear and one front rim are completed rusted from inside to outside. dealer never seen before. please provide further information (picture).  view

1997 taurus with 75000 miles, bought new. transmission began slipping into neutral when coming to a stop. then would either bang into gear when accelerating, or would have to place the car in park, turn off the engine, restart the engine, and place it in drive. often all would be fine for 2-3 weeks, then the transmission would act up again. after three or four months of this the transmission began slipping when accelerating from a dead stop. there are no unusual noises, the transmission fluid is clean and full, and the transmission appears to shift fine once i get going. i called ford motor company and they have no recalls or known defects (of course). the dealer urged me not drive the car and bring it into the shop right away. he said it would likely cost between $1300 and $2600 to repair.  view

Front brakes locking at low speeds due to abs failure. car was taken to gm dealership, the first mechanic said front rotors might be warped. i replaced front brakes and installed new rotors and problem was still there. went back to dealership then they advised me that since my tires were not all the same brand that was the problem....new tires did not fix the problem. car is not kicking any codes out to the computer and no abs light is on. dealer spoke to gm tech's and at that point replaced both front abs wiring harnesses. problem still exists....back to gm tech's again...rt rear hub was changed thinking it was a bad sensor but still have the problem. this car has been to the dealer at least 10 times now and chevrolet will not do a thing to fix this problem. at chevrolets request i took the car to a different dealer, the mechanic acknowledges the problem exists but can not figure out what is causing it. i have been in contact with chevrolet customer service and the are running me around.  view

Problems with my 1996 chrysler sebring. it goes thro tons of oil, i keep having to add oil to the car, everything has been breaking on it. now it periodically stalls out non stop. there is only 85k miles on the car and it should not be having these problems. i have put in thousands of dollars into this car for repairs. it was under warranty by chrysler and i took it in for the oil issue and they said they saw no problem, that warranty ran out and my extended one kicked in and they said it had oil leaks and kept 'fixing' them. once that warranty ran out they changed their story to 'the engine is consuming the oil, that's not under warranty'. meanwhile i am left with a horrid car that wont run.  view

Constant squeaking noise when the brakes are applied. i've already replaced the rotors, brakes, brake pads, and drums on several occasions since buying this focus about 3 years ago. also my steering wheel locked on me one day in april of 2002 the key would not fit into the ignition to start the car i have no idea why this would happen from one day to another. i had my vehicle towed to the ford dealership and they didn't know what the problem was caused by. they said that they needed to update the lock cylinder. luckily i purchased the api extended warranty that cover the car for 100,000 miles. so the cost of the work done for this was $427.20. all but $50.00 of which was my deductible was cover by this warranty. the problems didn't stop here. i also have had to get the cd systems that came installed in the car replaced. the was a constant clicking noise with the cd player and 90% of the time the cd's wouldn't even play. i called the dealership and they said that they could replace it for me but that it wouldn't be coverer by the warranty so i would have to pay for it out of my pocket. i ended up having a new system installed but not from the ford dealership, i took it to circuit city. recently this month july 2003, my car has been staling and shutting off at stop signals and stop light also just shut completely off on the freeway thank god no accident occurred. i called the dealership to report this problem also my check engine light would come on and off several times and they said to bring it in and they would check the engine light but that i would have to pay $165. 00 just for them to check the light and it would be more $$$ to repair what ever problem it was. i was fed up by then.  view

I purchased a brand new suzuki gsxr 600 on 03/27/2003. i took it for it's first test drive on 03/28/2003. nine miles into the trip i almost crashed on the off ramp of the interstate as the motorcycle stopped working while driving. i pulled off to the side of the road and found the gas i had smelled while driving was suddenly much stronger. i then realized i was covered in gasoline, the bike was drenched in gasoline, and i had been spraying gasoline down the road the whole time i was driving. i was picked up by the merchant who sold me the bike. after inspecting it in their shop, they found that suzuki had never attached the gas line. they advised the gas line had never been unattached before and that it was suzuki's responsibility to ensure this was attached. suzuki was contacted by the merchant, however they refused to replace the motorcycle and believe i should keep this motorcycle that now after being detailed still is covered in gasoline and smells like a 20 year old lawn mower. but aside from the damage it caused the vehicle and my clothing, the motorcycle or myself could have easily caught fire that day since we were soaked in gasoline. this was a severe safety hazard that could have cost me my life had a spark ignited me or a cigarette butt come my way. but apparently since i did not burn up or die, suzuki feels it is not an issue.  view

We have spent over $5000.00, on the truck surging. now because of it we now have to have a new rear-end and new lifts put in. we have had to have new plug wires every year. this truck is taken care of oil changed every 3000 miles and looks brand new. we are on a limit income and can not afford to buy a new truck and would like something done about this, we like the truck except having to put it in for repairs every spring for the same thing.  view

The vehicle experienced the same problem as the recall that was issued regarding the manifold, however the vehicle identification number was not included in the recall. the consumer stated the vehicle ran for five hours, he stopped to get gas and the vehicle failed to restart.  view

Under technical service bulletin# 54015, the engine was replaced free of charge on 5/15/2002 for the second time. one year later the engine died. the dealer stated the engine failed due to the oil not being changed. the consumer says the vehicle was regularly taken for maintenance. there was engine noise.  view

Failure of transmission (41te) on my 1999 chrysler jxi convertible. expensive repair at $2,250 plus towing bill and no car to drive to work. this continues to be a problem for chrysler, the 41te transmission and it's customers.  view

I own a 2002 subaru wrx. the abs on this car is extremely sensitive. it's so sensitive that it actually is instrusive. it comes in way to early and sometimes even where there shouldn't be any problem braking. during routine braking, the abs will engage resulting in a loss of brake power and thus a longer braking distance. i have driven many cars with abs and this car's system is not normal. i believe this is a "normal" problem with wrxs and the problem needs to be fixed.  view

Purchased november 2001, had two recalls for fuel system within two months, dealer told me there was previous recall fixed before i purchased. engine safety warning light has come on and stayed on several days on seven (7) separate occasions. dealer claims not to worry cannot figure out why. plus seat heater went out and had to be replaced, interior heater stopped working except defrost. i believe they are all related and is why the engine safety warning light keeps coming on. also to note--vehicle sways back and forth over small bumps, like riding a small boat in rough water.  view

Consumer noticed the fuel gauge always read empty. the consumer contacted the dealer about the problem and was told the problem could be fixed at the owners expense. the consumer felt this was a manufacturers defect and should not have to pay anything. please provide details.  view

I have a serious problem when i turn left! sometimes it will and most of the time i have to break a sweat. i had the power steering pump replaced and the problem still is there. i have found several different complaints and recalls of gm vehicles that have rack and pinion deficiencies. to get my rack and pinion replace it will cost me $600 for the part and ten hours of labor. due to the fact that they have to remove the engine just to get to it. now, i m a sergeant in the us army and i am stationed in germany. the closest thing i have to gm is an opel dealer. i spoke to oldsmobile and they say that they do not have any recalls or complaints about the rack and pinion on file. this is bs. look at the nhtsa web site and you will find hundreds of them. or just search for olds intrigue steering problems. i take care of my car and i keep up the services. i even had it sponsored by audiobahn doing car shows. i just want the right answers. is this my problem or is it the manufactures?  view

Problems with passenger side power door since vehicle purchase. door will not close completely, buzzer will sound. repeated attempts to close door may/may not correct problem. vehicle has been to dealership numerous times (5+) with replacement of door closer motor, re-alignment and adjustments. door now nearing end of warranty period and is completely inoperative. american honda contacted. consider this a design flaw that should be covered under extended warranty by mfr.  view

I currently own a 2003 dodge durango. since i have purchased it in february 2003 it has been in the shop several times. the rotors have been replace twice, the rear end twice and now the transmission slips into neutral while driving. this can be very dangerous. i owned a 1999 durango and had nothing but problems with it. the steering column had to be replaced a few times and the ball joints. the transmission also had done the same thing. dodge could never find anything wrong with that durango and cannot find anything wrong with this transmission. the last durango the transmission slipped into neutral while crossing over lanes with oncoming traffic coming right at me. again, the dealer could find nothing wrong with it. same with this one. i am requesting that daimler-chrysler and williamsburg dodge refund my money and take the truck back. they recently had my durango for 15 days. the first 10 days the district manager, james brown, and shane lockhart, dealers tech manager, argued that my camper weighed too much. i gave them evidence that my camper only weighed 4295 lbs. daimler-chrysler sells the durango boasting it can tow 7400 lbs. after i filed a complaint with daimler-chrysler, james brown said he made a mistake on the weight. now, they want to inspect my camper for faulty breaks. they are saying somehow it is causing stress on the durango. give me a break!!! i have had my camper inspected. surprisingly, the place where i have gone says they get this a lot from dodge owners. do we see a pattern? they also get a lot of requests for dodge owners to have transmission coolants put on their dodges. what does this tell us? consumeraffairs.com tells a lot about dodge. we need something to be done with daimler-chrysler.  view

With doors securely closed the door adjar light comes on. this can last for minutes to hours, the same with the battery check light. lastly, the chimes will intermittently come on. this is starting to become more and more frequent and continue for longer and longer periods of time. i have had it looked at numerous times and it is still not resolved. i have heard many other complaints of the same nature and occurrences ie, complaint # 10020993. electrical problems are generally hard to pinpoint but can be very serious in nature. electrical fires start and spread fast. i have a family with young children and i am very concerned. ford claims that they have no complaints of this nature. i find that hard to believe.  view

Vehicle stall out continuously. spent a great deal of money ($1,479 -60k checkup for breaks, throttle, fuel sender replacement, etc) only to have to bring it back a few weeks later because it still stalled out. they "discovered" the fuel sensor wire was corroded, had to wait 2 weeks for part to come in (they did pay for a rental). only to have problem start up again a few days later. this was the 5th time in 8 months i had it in for the same issue. i did tell them that it didn't occur as much when i put in dry gas, they told me to continue to do and that they couldn't help me since they weren't around when it occurred. they did say to bring it in when it happened!  view

99 ford expedition spark plug blow out right cylinder # 2. this occurred 10,000 miles after having ford dealership tune my vehicle up. my local mechanic claim it was a defective spark plug and that ford should remedy problem. that hasn't happened as of yet. my vehicle had 97,000 at time of blow out. i personally have put 60,000 highway miles on vehicle last year alone. this vehicle has a service bulletin on coolant hose clamp as well as insufficient threads on heads.  view

Engine stalls when fuel level is 1/2 to 1/4 full, especially so when making turns. there are dozens and dozens of other jeep cherokee owners whom i have spoke to that also have this problem. just visit any of the jeep owners internet message boards such as jeepforum.com, jeepsunlimited.com, or jeepin.com and do a search. you will find a suprizing number of results.  view

Bought new/used 1999 chevrolet blazer from showcase chevrolet in westminster ca. had in possession for about 1 week and then began having radiator/cooling system problems. dealership did not want to correct defect so tried to use lemon law. no one would give me information on general manager. finally found out who gm was after 3 weeks of hassles. found out that his name was joe perry and that he was on vacation at the time. when he returned i contacted him that day and told him about all my troubles and how the vehicle was obviously defective after being in the shop 2 times in less than a month. he was rude and not helpful what-so-ever with the situation. after being told basically its my problem now, i decided to find out the area managers name and how to contact him/her. called chevrolet customer service number and reported the vehicle problems and the service problems in which i had contacted just trying to fix my defective vehicle. customer service pretended to care but nothing was being done. then i called showcase chevrolet back and talked with mr. perry once again, and asked him for the name of his area manager. i was told that they were independently owned and they did not have an area manager. i repeated him and made sure they did not have a manager that was higher on the list than mr. perry himself. i was bluntly told no. i then called customer service and found that they do have an area manager and that showcase thought i wanted to contact him. so instead of telling me that they did have an area manager but i could not contact him myself, he just though it would be better to say that mr. perry was the head of everything and they had no such thing as an area manager. well now i'm here complaining to the last place i could find. today i heard on the news of this outrages lawsuit with gm and their cooling system and dex-cool. that is what im experiencing with my vehicle.  view

Bought new/used 1999 chevrolet blazer from showcase chevrolet in westminster ca. had in possession for about 1 week and then began having radiator/cooling system problems. dealership did not want to correct defect so tried to use lemon law. no one would give me information on general manager. finally found out who gm was after 3 weeks of hassles. found out that his name was joe perry and that he was on vacation at the time. when he returned i contacted him that day and told him about all my troubles and how the vehicle was obviously defective after being in the shop 2 times in less than a month. he was rude and not helpful what-so-ever with the situation. after being told basically its my problem now, i decided to find out the area managers name and how to contact him/her. called chevrolet customer service number and reported the vehicle problems and the service problems in which i had contacted just trying to fix my defective vehicle. customer service pretended to care but nothing was being done. then i called showcase chevrolet back and talked with mr. perry once again, and asked him for the name of his area manager. i was told that they were independently owned and they did not have an area manager. i repeated him and made sure they did not have a manager that was higher on the list than mr. perry himself. i was bluntly told no. i then called customer service and found that they do have an area manager and that showcase thought i wanted to contact him. so instead of telling me that they did have an area manager but i could not contact him myself, he just though it would be better to say that mr. perry was the head of everything and they had no such thing as an area manager. well now i'm here complaining to the last place i could find. today i heard on the news of this outrages lawsuit with gm and their cooling system and dex-cool. that is what im experiencing with my vehicle.  view

Since 1999 this car has been leaking oil. replaced cam seal and head gasket once under warranty. 1 month later (when warranty ran out) had to be replaced again at a cost of 500.00. 6 months later started leaking again. took to a mechanic who said this is common for this type of vehicle. replaced cam seal and head gasket again. 1 month later same thing. said chrysler had a new and "improved" seal. guess what we are taking the car to the dealer again tomorrow. this will be the 6th time. i have probably spent on repairs the same amount i spent for the car. chrysler won't do a thing for the consumers. if there is a lawsuit i would like to know about it. can you please help?  view

White smoke expelled from the exhaust pipe and the engine stalled. it was discovered the sleeve which sealed the exhaust gas as it entered the intake manifold leaked. ...  view

Clicking noise from my 1997 nissan maxima 5 - speed odometer. shifting problems, no cruise control and no mph reading or odometer reading after clicking stopped. shifting completely failed after about a month. mechanic that fixed the problem said that the odometer box located near the gears fell apart and the pieces of the odometer components fell into my gears damaging them and ultimately preventing the use of my vehicle. mechanic also told me it was nothing i had done to contribute to this failure.  view

Year 2000 - mitsubishi eclipse gt with 17" wheel option - factory equipped 17" wheel/tire option. dents repeatedly when contact is made with a moderate or larger size road defect. dented wheels leak air and cause considerable vibration at highway speeds due to out of balance situation dents cause. a wheel suddenly lost all pressure and the tire became unseated from the rim. fortunately i was able to maintain control of the car because the incident happened at a relatively low speed. the rim struck the ground directly and was damaged where tire contacts wheel. i have seen a number of cars identical to mine and all of them have had at least one dented wheel (17" wheel option). all dents occur where the wheel meets the rim on the outer facing side of the rim. the inner rim does not bend, leading me to believe there is a design flaw. rims dent at recommended tire pressures. i have already replaced 2 wheels at my own expense, and the replacements now have multiple dents. i have not rotated the tires because the front wheels only dent (i suspect because a higher percentage of the vehicle's weight is borne by the front wheels). if i rotate the wheels, all 4 wheels will soon be dented exacerbating the problem.  view

My model year 2002 subaru impreza wrx wagon has had a slight reoccuring problem with what seems to be a faulty abs braking sensor. the car suffers from a drop in pressure of brake pedal feel and brake performance over uneven or bumpy roads. when braking under normal driving conditions if a bumpy or uneven surface is encountered while braking the abs kicks in and there is a loss in control via the brake pedal of the braking force. this condition happens every time the conditions are present as described, and can be quite disconcerting. it is obvious that under panic situations, coupled with less than ideal road surfaces, this condition could prove very dangerous, as the braking distance of the car increases dramatically during this action.  view

Problems with dyna low rider. while driving bike at 55 to 60 mph, the motorcycle vibrated so bad it put the consumer hands to sleep. the shocks bottomed out when going over little bumps in the road. the transmission made a noise when shifting gears. . there was also a rattle in the motor when first started for 5-10 minutes, but ceased when the motor became hot, the fuel gauge displayed empty when there was 2 gallons of gas left.  view

The reason i'm writing this is because 'm trying to find out the proper steps to take to have an investigation on the failure of the seatbelts and seats. on the 16th of march 2003 my family and i were in a terrible accident in corpus christi texas. we were heading home to new braunfels texas when i ran into construction and the flow of traffic came to a stop and a full size van rear ended my minivan at about 30mph. in the car i had my pregnant wife, mother, dad and 2 year old daughter. the car was a 2002 dodge caravan and my daughter was strapped into the car seat and everyone else was using their seatbelts. my moms seatbelt which was located on the center bench seat directly behind the passenger seat came undone. it held at the initial impact but gave way after that. two things that saved her were my arm and my father's seat which is the second problem i have snapped back and broke and pinned her legs and prevented her from flying through the windshield. my seat and her center bench seat also snapped back and injured my daughter.  view

I am the owner of a 1995 infiniti g20 (vin# jnkcp01d6st515806) with 110,135 miles. one day, upon opening my trunk to place groceries in it, the trunk slammed down on the back of my head and neck while bending over to put some items deep into it. the trunk slammed down with such force that i ended up with a concussion and bruised spine per 2 doctors that examined me afterwards. the 2 supporting trunk gas lifts were worn, however, they should not have produced a force great enough to cause serious injury or harm when the trunk is in the fully open position. i feel that this is an engineering safety defect on the part of infiniti/nissan and something should be done to rectify this horrible safety problem. this trunk should be considered hazardous.  view

On march 25, 2003, at 5:15 pm my 2002 ford escape with 13800 miles stalled going down a steady grade. i lost all power to the steering and brakes. in rush hour traffic, with several other motorists in front of and behind me, i had to fight the steering wheel and brakes to regain control of the vehicle, all while attempting to restart the car--an absolutely frightening situation. this is the second time in 7 months this has happened. the first time this happened, i was going down a sharp grade around a tight bend to the right. i lost all power to the brakes and steering, causing me to nearly fall over a steep cliff onto traffic below. had this happened, i'm sure i would have been killed along with several other motorists as well. each time i took the car directly to the dealership where i was told the problem was "fixed." this car is extremely unsafe to drive as it shuts down without warning! i have informed the dealer of my concerns about this vehicle's extremely unsafe condition, and their response is that i should trade it in and buy yet another new car from them. i have also heard of several other people in my area who are experiencing the same problem with the same type of vehicle. ford needs to correct this very serious issue immediately before there are deaths associated with this apparently common factory defect!  view

When you go to turn on the turn signals they do not work. they will work one minute and not the next. at times you have to turn on the four way flashers to get the signal to work and at times this does not alway help. i have had several near rear end misses because of this. it's a safety hazard!  view

2001 new beetle 1.9 l tdi, 55,000 mi.: engine mil light comes on solid and glo-plug light blinks on/off at steady rate (no apparent code to blink rate). foot throttle control is lost and engine changes from (normal) idle (950 rpm) with foot-throttle ("accelerator") control to complete loss of foot throttle and steady 1200 rpm engine speed. this may happen at random times during driving or (once) even within seconds after starting engine before vehicle is put in gear or begins moving. most times, it occurs when vehicle is at speed, causing immediate loss of speed (i.e. 2000 rpm in 5th gear = 55 mph changes to 1200 rpm = 35 mph). independent garage has 'read' obd-ii diagnostic codes and determined "throttle out of range". two "remedies" (1) "re-boot" the vehicle (turn ignition off and then back on --- requiring straight/wide stretch of road because of interlock with steering), after which throttle control is regained for some random period of time (fraction of a km to several km's) before throttle control is lost again... or resort to vehicle operation with "hand throttle" (called "cruise control". with 1200 rpm engine speed limit, vehicle can be driven if very gingerly shifted gears, getting up to 20-25 mph in 3rd gear at which point "cruise control" ("cc") can be engaged. subsequently higher speeds can be obtained by incremental (1 mph) increases on cc, eventually regaining 55 mph (2000 rpm) engine speed. driving in traffic required continuous engagement & disengagement/re-engagement of hand throttle ("cc") as foot throttle is useless. starting from traffic signals, merging with high speed traffic, etc. is inconvenient at best and, typically, quite hazardous when considering the constant 1200 rpm engine speed limitation (until the painstaking hand throttle increments slowly allow speed increases from 20-25 mph to highway speeds. vw customer care claims there is no recall and they are "unaware" of a problem.  view

Abs kicks in and does not return to normal braking even after regaining contact with the road. attempted to replicate the problem on my own but could never do so consistently. seems to happen over bumpy roads, the abs kicks in, wheel(s) appear to lose traction, but when traction should be regained, the brake pedal practically goes to the floor, the car does not slow down at an acceptable rate, and only after "pumping" the brake pedal does the car then go back to normal (hard) abs braking. while it has never caused an accident, i am concerned about this behavior were it to ever happen in a panic situaiton.  view

With 57k miles and all recommended maintenance, my honda crv had a burnt exhaust valve on the #3 cylinder. in researching this problem, i found several similar complaints all referring to the #3 cylinder and the valve tightness from the factory. if honda realized this may be a problem, could they have not adjusted these valves during regular maintenance? i'm not happy in paying for a repair that honda could have prevented but didn't inform me that might happen.  view

Have been having transmission problems and am seeing a trend to others having similar problems. the dealer quoted $8000 new or $3327 for used. i don't think we should be having transmission problems on a car that is 3 years old. anyone else having problems?  view
