Consumer stated the driver's side mirror caught on fire. the fire department stated it was an electrical fire. the vehicle was parked beside the house and was not driven for 3-4 days, the drivers side outside rear mirror assembly spontaneously ignited. it was found that the fire started due to wiring in the exterior mirror.  view

I have had numerous problems with my jeep wrangler 1998. this is a partial list i sent to chrysler: i bought my jeep with just 3600 miles on it from a dealer in 1999. from day one i started experiencing problems. many of them i returned to the service department. some they were able to fix, others, after many return trips, they were 'unable to duplicate the problem'. 1. gauges would stop working while driving - i brought the vehicle in 5 times before they were able to duplicate and finally fix the problem. 2. this was also true of the blinkers that not always worked - or worked all at the same time. 3. my hazards still do not work every time. 4. the air conditioner goes out when driving,very uncomfortable when it is hot and raining. 5. the sound bar has never worked properly - first it would only come in some times - now never. 6. headers are cracked - bad. they have been welded several times. when i went to have them welded it was found they were welded before my purchase - at 3600 mil! they are still cracked, welding does not hold. i can not get anyone to replace them because even exhaust specialists say it is too cumbersome. the dealer charges way more than i have considering the number of repairs and the price of gas - at 12 mpg. 7. drivers seat belt locks tightly with any amount of pressure on the brakes - it has now gotten to the point it locks just while driving. 8. windows - the zippers broke almost immediately - i paid alot to have these replaced. the back window now has a cut in it and is very difficult to see through. 9. the top has never quite fit right; it has always leaked and been extremely noisy - more so than anyone else's that i know. it has also come apart at the seams. the dealership has not been of any help. they wanted to charge outrageous amounts just for diagnostics, even when i had the best warranty. i've also had problems with the door molding coming out immediately, grinding in the steering wheel, grinding while trying to put it in reverse and more.  view

Transmissin failure on the intersate w/ a 2 year old and a 6 month old children in the car. had just purchased the vehicle on july 19, 2004 with only 17 miles on the vehicle.  view

1998 volvo - (v70 and others) abs/trac control module fails with 64,000 miles on car. symptoms are intermittent warning lights. well documented problem according to dealer and other owners (see www.brickboard.com) repair is nearly $700. major safety issue since abs and trac do not work when lights are on and module fails.  view

In dry weather, consumer was driving went to apply the brake pedal and it went to the floor. please describe .  view

1994 chevrolet k1500 pickup. windshield wipers quit working 10 minutes after exposure to wet traffic conditions. the wiper motor then hums but wipers do not work while the environment remains wet. after the vehicle is allowed to sit for a few hours, the wipers then work.  view

Dash display wont come on along with interior lighting when cold. cannot see speed and cannot read my gas level. instrument lights start to come on after a long while. when the finally come on they blink and obstructs driving at night.  view

I own a 2000 victory v92c. it has suffered several problems, all that have been dealt with by victory in a timely fashion, but i feel that it is necessary to report this matter to you because other victory owners have experienced similar issues. the nhtsa was instrumental in causing a recall for the fuel pump, of which i suffered one failure. victory replaced that original pump without question. my main area of concern is the original transmission. on 7/26/01, the front drive sprocket was replaced after it spun on while i was on a tour, with just over 15,000 miles on the bike. on 8/24/02, my local dealer noted that the front drive sprocket had again worn out, at just over 31,000 miles. by 9/24/02, victory had replaced my entire transmission. my area of concern is that i have seen several victory motorcycles from 1999 and 2000 that have been replaced (there was a change in design in 2001, which seems to have fixed the problem) due to similar transmission issues. this is something that the nhtsa should look into.  view

Transmission. what was told to me by dealer, was that a piece came apart from the transmission, clogged up the transmission filter, while hitting moving parts and ruining parts of transmission.  view

On july 28 while my wife was driving our new explorer sport trac it just stop running. she started it up and it ran for about 1min then cut off again stranding her in the middle of a highway in a turn lane we reported it to ford it took over 2 hrs for them to get a tow truck to tow the truck to the dealer it also happened on the 27th. also the owners manual pages are not right when you look at about how to change a tire it give you a page number and it shows something else like how to change oil.  view

This vehicle experiences a failure in the steering position sensor mounted in the bottom of the steering column that makes you severely oversteer. i have complained to my local chevy dealer and they are aware of the issue, however, they are unwilling to do anything about this. as a certified auto technician,, i feel that this is a extreme safety issue that should cause a recall for repair. i also feel that gm should be liable for any accidents this definately would have caused as they are not correcting this safety issue!  view

Rims are severly corroded, causing brand new tire to leak serverly. i have a flat once a week on two of the four tires.  view

Abs computer failure, abs and traction control light on, abs fails to function at all. tsb on wire crimp done allready. please do something about this, there are hundreds if not thousands of cases of failed abs ecu modules, some are replaced under warranty and dont even get reported.  view

Upon impact, air bag deployed but bag exploded resulting in chest injury to sturnam (breast bone). please describe details.  view

Sudden loss of fluid from left rear shock, detected by pool of fluid on garage floor.2002 ford explorer with 37500 miles of normal highway driving. failure was sudden and premature, possibly resulting in vehicle instability if not detected by careful inspection. dealer was not willing to hold part for ford failure mode analysis? with suv history of suspension concerns, this dealer response seems inappropriate? i saved the shock they replaced.  view

The driver's side window failed to respond, the hazzard lights would flash when the defroster was turned on, the gas tank cover would open when the car was started, the remote control would not work... a bunch of random problems were intermittent at first -then became permanant. the service manager at barry volkswagon (dartmouth ma) insisted that it was not related to an advisory report on window clips but offered to fix it for $1000. tracy volkswagon (hyannis, ma) took a look at the same car and fixed the problem under warranty. it was the window clips service bulletin number: 640101.  view

I recently took delivery of a new infinity fx45. it now has about 600 miles on it. the headlights are aimed too low to illuminate the road ahead. visibility is severely limited to about 2+ car lengths ahead. i cannot maintain minimal speed on an unlit highway, or when other cars are not traveling with me. the dealer states that the headlights are "within factor spec" and will do nothing to assist. he will not check it at night; nor will he check my car against others in the shop or on the dealership floor. the dealer adds that it is impossible to adjust these lights as there is no adjustment capability built into the headlight module. the dealer, pepe infinity, white plains, ny 10601, will no longer discuss the problem with me; nor has anyone contacted me to attempt to resolve the issue. if i cannot drive the car after dark, i want to get another car or have the problem fixed. infinity usa says exactly the same thing. their position is that if infinity released the car, it must meet all federal specifications, and will do nothing more. they did agree to let me visit another infinity dealer to "independently" check the headlights, but it will probably be at my own expense. in the meantime, the car is virtually undriveable at night unless driven in a lighted area and at low speeds.  view

Vehicle had had two recalls 97v058000 and 00v1890000 concerning rear cradle bolts pushing through retainers due to corrosion. it was purchased first in florida before being registered in new york. the manufacturer had been contacted, and informed new owner no outstanding recalls on vehicle. previous owner had vehicle since 1993, and never was notified of recalls. vehicle has not been repaired for any recalls that has been issued. dealer had informed new owner repairs for recalls could be done, but owner woud be charged.  view

I experienced a humming sound coming from my vehicle when the engine was not running. i went to a gm dealer to see what the problem was. the service tech said immediately that it was bad wiring in the abs motor causing it to run at all times. this was a repair that needed to be completed immediately because the motor was running off of my battery. the dealer said that he has seen a few of these vehicles with the same problem. i proceeded with the repair and spent about 900.00. this is not a recall, at least i am not aware of it, and should be investigated.  view

I purchased a 2003 kia sorento in feb 2003, vehicle spins over for quite sometime and then slowly finally turns over, i have taken it into the dealer 2 times now and they have said it was the fuel relay switch and vehicle still has the problem so i am taking it into the dealer for the 3rd time and they swear it is a fuel problem so we'll see if it's going to get fixed.  view

1997 honda prelude sport shift transmission failure. car has only 60,000 miles and the transmission is failing. car is beginning to jerk forward when slowing down to a complete stop in traffic or at a stop light.  view

Check engine light has now been on for 1 year and 4 months. dealer has replaced the part several times and claims the new parts keep coming in defective.  view

When the engine is cold. i start the car and it struggles to turn on after a couple of second it idles normally. i think it's a feul dilivery problem but i'm not a mechanic. i've taken the car to service and the problem persist.  view

The vehicle shuddered between gears when shifting, dealer stated tsb out on this problem, second to third gear only. when slowing down vehicle lurched forward. both problems happened intermittently. dealer repaired vehicle, however the problem was not rectified. the vehicle was taken to dealer 5 times, unable to repair.  view

The battery leaked acid and damaged the battery tray and cable. the battery was replaced, however the problem recurred.  view

I bought my 1989 ford taurus in june of 2001. in the paperwork from the original owners was info. on a recall/extended warranty dated 4/98 regarding problems with seatbelt buckles. i recently had difficulties with my seatbelt buckles and took it to a ford dealership and was consequently told it was way passed the warranty date even before i purchased the vehicle. so my complaint is how do i get them fixed since this can become a serious matter if i or anyone else gets stuck in the car, or has further difficulties even fastening the seatbelt. i also was notified of reimbursement for replacing the ignition module to submit your receipts by 10/02. i however didn't have to replace it until a few months ago, and submitted those receipts anyway without any response what so ever. i've also not long ago had to replace the rear mountings for my rear shocks and springs and the front need to be done as well. does this qualify in the recall of the suspension:front:shock absorber id #94e36000? i'm just curious as to how a person knows to look for these recalls when buying a vehicle. shouldn't the manufacturer notify us?  view

The consumer accidentally hit the interior dome light override switch 3 times which caused the vehicle's headlights to fail without warning. the switch was only supposed to allow the dome light to remain illuminated when doors were closed.  view

The head gasket needed to be replaced.  view

At just over 100000 miles, we lost 3rd gear. this ofcourse happened in traffic going up a hill. i have read several complaints regarding the suburban transmission. just wanted to share the warning signs: transmission began to "slip" several days prior to the total loss of 3rd gear. in stop and go traffic situations, when shifting from 2nd to 3rd, truck seemed to slip into neutral. rpm would rev and after backing off the accelerator seemed to straighten up. however, not long after, vehicle would not shift into 3rd. with an automatic, that leaves very few options when in the middle of traffic. i had manually shift from 1st to 2nd and manually down shift. luckily, i was not on the highway; i was able to stay below 40mph and drive in 2nd and got it home. now we are looking for further information that may help levy the cost of fixing the problem. looks like gm is aware and refuses to recall.  view

On 6/12/03 i filled out a vehicle owners questionnaire on a 1999 chrysler concorde, vin 2c3hd46r9xh766601. on 8/02/02 i purchased this chrysler concorde with 48,580 miles.on 8/15/02, i took the car back to carl gregory because of electrical problems, car leaking oil, brakes sticking, and air, heater,defrost,ventilation problems.upon arrival to carl gregory on 8/15/02 to drop the car off to be serviced there were 48,620 miles on the odometer. after receiving a phone call from carl gregory dealership stating "that the car was ready." "and had been serviced." after arriving and getting in the car, i noticed that the odometer had been changed, because it was now reading 48,883 miles. i then questioned paul mooney about the additional miles and was told "been everything had fixed." on 4/15/03, i was back at carl gregory having electrical problems in the dashboard. and the air conditioner was blowing out hot air. in the month of may 2003, i received a recall notice about the driver's seat bolt being defective, which may break causing the seat to suddenly recline. i took the car in on 5/27/03 to have the bolt replaced. after being at the dealership for about two minutes i was told that "the car was ready to go." i asked if the bolt had been replaced? i do not belive it had because it was not gone long enough. i aso had to request a customer's copy of the invoice. when i received the invoice i notice that the invoice stated that the car was gray. the car is black. please look into this matter. thank you jacqueline riley 6069 hunter ridge circle columbus, ga. 31907 journeybegin2@juno.com.  view

Severe piston slap. dealership has replaced lifters 3 times, pistons and all other moving parts in engine once. engine still runs very hot and has significant loss of power (i have to floor it to maintain highway speed while going uphill, etc.)  view

The airbag light stays on and the horn doesn't work. i own a 1999 chrysler town and country lxi van.  view

Engine vibrates when at idle, and acts as if it may stall, but does not. took the car to the dealer and dealer said idle was too low. but a week later, engine vibrated again and appeared it was going to stall but did not. i called mitsubishi reps in california, they came down to florida to test my car. for three days they kept it and said they fixed the problem: they changed the spark plugs and cables and told me to use premium fuel from amoco. a week later the car vibrated again and appeared it would stall but it did not. mitsubishi said they have no idea what is causing vibrations but they are looking in to it. they told me they can not find a solution if they do not know what is causing problem. i am very frustrated with my montero. will probably trade for big american gas guzzler.  view

There is a clunking sound when shifting from reverse to drive and from drive to reverse. the car lunges after the transmission shifts. i was told its normal for a car with 45000 miles!!!!  view

My car has been making a strange sound, so i took it in to the dealership yesterday. they discovered that i was out of oil- though there have been no obvious oil leaks, and the oil light has never come on. due to this, extensive damage was found through out the engine. i was told that the oil lights don't always work.  view

Many problems with my 1997 malibu, suspension noise/leaky water pump/key agnition, and lock collar. 32600 miles on the car many repairs.  view

Tsb 19-002-01 rev. a was performed on the vehicle for the steering. the vehicle continued to wander, easily over-steer, and was too sensitive to wind and trucks.  view

The date reported is the most recent (and fourth) episode of illness brought on after traveling in a 1995 cadillac eldorado. after every trip, i developed severe flu like symptoms and sinus irritation. i called a nearby cadillac dealer and they told me it was most likely mold in the air conditioning/climate control system .  view

I purchased a used 1996 ford crown victoria from cal worthington ford in alaska a little less than three years ago. when i purchased the car, i also purchased a premium warranty policy and the vehicle is still under warranty. the vehicle has heated rear-view mirrors. a little over two years ago after a snow storm, the passenger-side rear-view mirror cracked straight down the middle. snow had covered the mirror and i assume when the mirror heated, it cracked. four months ago after another snow storm, the driverÂ??s side mirror cracked straight down the middle. once again, it was cold and when the mirror started heating up it cracked. please note - i always brush the snow off my car before i warm it up. request Â?? ford motor co. replaces the mirrors at no cost to me i contacted cal worthington ford and asked them to replace the mirrors under warranty and they refused. i have two reasons for this request: 1) the mirrors are defective and pose a safety hazard. the mirrors cracked because of a poor engineering design. the mirrors didn't crack because of negligence caused on my part. 2) the car is still under warranty.  view

The vehicles seat recliner utilizes only one recliner mechanism rather than dual mechanisms. the consumer believes this makes the mechanism prone to failure.  view

Consumer states when the vehicle goes over a bump in the road, theres is a banging noise. took to dealer, and dealer is replacing the front upper ball joints.  view

I have a 1999 honda odyssey with 65,000 miles on it. our check engine light came on and i was told by a transmission shop that the dif. bearings were failing and causing the solenoids to malfunction. they say i need a total transmission rebuild. i have found that there are many many more out there with the same problem. i am pursuing honda to cover the replacement because it is obviously a under engineered / defective design.  view

My 2001 chrysler sebring convertible with a 2.7 liter engine just quite on the highway with no prior warning or warning lights coming on one day last july. the dealer claims the engine seized due to sludge build-up. since the car was 3, 600 miles over the 36,000 mile warranty, chrysler has refused to repair the engine or even acknowledge that there is a problem with the 2.7 liter engine over-heating and causing sludge build-up.  view

Head gasket blew at only 50320 miles, allowing antifreeze to enter the engine block and flood cylinder heads and spark plugs, warping them to the point where they had to be rebuilt, in addition due to lack of antifreeze, car overheated almost to the point of catching fire, seizing the engine. this came with no warning, and no sign of leakage as antifreeze leaked into engine rather than onto ground. car broke down in the middle lane of a busy intersection while stopped at a light causing a traffic obstacle during morning rush hour.  view

Complete transmission failure at 60,000 miles. symptoms prior to failure were hesitation shifting into second gear when truck was initially started.  view

I purchased replacement tires for a 1999 chevrolet astro on this date. the dealer firestone tire & service centers, 7950 e speedway, tucson, az 85715 represented the tires as suitable for my vehicle. after i got home i discovered the tires, firestone fr380 p215/75r15, were rated for 1742 lbs at 44 psi but this should be reduced to 1585 lbs when using this tire on a truck or multipurpose vehicle which, i assume, would pertain to a van as well. the tire just meets the minimum requirements of the van which is a load capacity of 1575 lbs. but it meets the requirement only when inflated to 44 psi. chevrolet recommends a tire pressure of 35 psi and when the firestone installed the tires they inflated them to only 30 psi. i increased the pressure to 44 psi since only then would the tires meet the van specs. i tried to get the dealer to upgrade the tires about 25 days after i bought them but they said they met the requirements of my van. later when i went in for an oil change the change said the tires were over inflated and reduced them all to 35 psi. i am very concerned that the tires are not safe but cannot get consistent advice nor any action from the dealer. does the nhsta have any standing in such a dispute ?  view

Monte carlo ss 2002. car under 12000 miles needed new brake pads, and rotors resurfaced. previously had malibu 2000 that was bought back by dealer after 2 years of rotor and brake problems that caused 2 crashes. when is somebody going to look at the design of equipment in these vehicles to see there is a defect. dealership even admitted to flaw.  view

I have a acura 2001 cl type s. transmission failed at 25k miles, so i took it to the dealer. they said they would fix it and put a brand new transmission free of the defect. then at 50k miles my transmission failed again. i got it replaced and it still feels like it is going to have the same problem again.  view

Based on a dealer reccomendation, i have become aware the mercedes benz has been conducting and unpublicised "campaign" to advise owners of certian of the ml series suvs of the desireability of "upgrading", at the owners expense, the fuel system including filters and lines. this is apparently in response to a number of fuel filter and fuel pump failures, ascribed by mercedes to "poor quality u.s. fuel" these failures have the effect of immobilizing the car, without warning. these unexpected stoppages cn have very serious saftey implications if they occur in a moving traffic flow situation. mercedes is well aware of this problem but has not directly informed owners and takes the position that it is not a saftey issue and therefore not subject to a recall. i believe that a documented problem, ascribable to faulty design or materials that can lead to a sudden and unexpected loss of power is a very serious hazard and should be corrected by the manufacturer.  view

I have had numerous problems with my jeep wrangler 1998. this is a partial list i sent to chrysler: i bought my jeep with just 3600 miles on it from a dealer in 1999. from day one i started experiencing problems. many of them i returned to the service department. some they were able to fix, others, after many return trips, they were 'unable to duplicate the problem'. 1. gauges would stop working while driving - i brought the vehicle in 5 times before they were able to duplicate and finally fix the problem. 2. this was also true of the blinkers that not always worked - or worked all at the same time. 3. my hazards still do not work every time. 4. the air conditioner goes out when driving,very uncomfortable when it is hot and raining. 5. the sound bar has never worked properly - first it would only come in some times - now never. 6. headers are cracked - bad. they have been welded several times. when i went to have them welded it was found they were welded before my purchase - at 3600 mil! they are still cracked, welding does not hold. i can not get anyone to replace them because even exhaust specialists say it is too cumbersome. the dealer charges way more than i have considering the number of repairs and the price of gas - at 12 mpg. 7. drivers seat belt locks tightly with any amount of pressure on the brakes - it has now gotten to the point it locks just while driving. 8. windows - the zippers broke almost immediately - i paid alot to have these replaced. the back window now has a cut in it and is very difficult to see through. 9. the top has never quite fit right; it has always leaked and been extremely noisy - more so than anyone else's that i know. it has also come apart at the seams. the dealership has not been of any help. they wanted to charge outrageous amounts just for diagnostics, even when i had the best warranty. i've also had problems with the door molding coming out immediately, grinding in the steering wheel, grinding while trying to put it in reverse and more.  view
