Please contact me reference the air conditioning a/c unit in my 1995 grand cherokee jeep. i'm totally frustrated with the service and responses i've received from daimler chrysler and the local dealership referencing the a/c. the a/c not working on a 500 mile plus trip (one way) can cause undo stress on family, especially one with young kids and a pregnant wife. when an authorized automobile dealership repairs your vehicle, you feel somewhat confident. i cannot place all the blame on the dealership as this has been a continuing problem and can probably be labled as a manufaturer's defect.please contact me and advise me on courses of action as daimler chrysler and the local dealership (don phillips) are not interested in providing any assistance. view

Engine blew for "no apparent reason". warranty will not cover a replacement due to the mysterious appearance of sludge. i had my oil changed regularly and maintained my vehicle properly. i have already replaced the transmission, various sensors and visited the dealer 3 times to correct an oil leak. i was never diagnosed with an engine problem until it finally shut down. while driving approximately 45 mph on the highway, the engine started to make a loud noise and rattled continuously. this was very surprising, considering the vehicle was normally a quiet ride. the shop told me my engine was blown and the warranty company denied my claim. i am still financing this vehicle and do not have the 6,500.00 to replace this engine. i see numerous complaints on this site and others about the 2.7 liter engines. there should definitely be a recall. view

The dealer recommended the front brake rotors, pads, and calipers on my 1999 jeep grand cherokee be replaced at a cost of $400. this is due to a service bulletin issued by chrysler in early 2002. although chrysler recommends this kit for 1999 jeep grand cherokees, it will only cover the cost of this change for vehicles currently under warranty. the dealer told me the original caliper design was a two piston arrangement that applied uneven pressure to the rotor through the brake pads resulting in uneven wear on the rotors. the new caliper is a four piston design that applies pressure in a more evenly distributed fashion. an inadequate design of the front brake caliper that results in uneven wear is a safety issue the cost of which should be covered by chrysler for all vehicles containing this problem. i was advised by chrylser that if a recall is issued in the future i would be reimbursed. view

My "99 malibu developed engine cooling problems and the fans were not working. it got too hot and trashed the engine. i dealt with gm for about a month and they finally turned me down for help because i took it to an independent mechanic who checked it out and said the transmission gasket was leaking, so they replaced that and when it still leaked they said it was the sensor to the thermostat and by that time it was too late. when i took it to the chevy dealer for a diagnostic, they said it was shot. i have known of quite a few people that had the same problem with gm cars. now, since i have been without a car for a month, i am going to get a used motor put in it. this is the only car i have. view

We recently had a second harrowing experience in our 2002 mazda tribute es-v6. we were so taken aback by the audacity of mazda having knowledge of the stalling issue in the tribute and not taking into their best interest to recall the vehicle that we traded the vehicle in for a different make. in forward motion, at approximately 35mph+, the vehicle stalled. in the process of stalling, all power to the power assisted steering and brakes were lost. my wife had extreme difficulty in stopping the vehicle. it happens at such a range of speed (~40mph) that restarting the car is not an immediate option. the problem is intermittent, yes, and mazda claims to have adjusted their flash bios to adjust for the fault. they also state that the 2003 does not have this reported stalling while in forward motion issue. thats fine, but what about the 1000's of people out on the road that have not received a recall notice of any sort for this vehicles problem with stalling. i even talked to the dealer i bought my mpv from, and he stated that a tribute 2002 had stalled for him while in forward motion while showing it to a prospective new owner! i find it appalling that a company knows about a fault of this nature and has not for the best interest of those that have bought their vehicle, and those that drive on the highways alongside said vehicle have not recalled and fixed the architecture of the equipment involved : not just a flash bios update, that in reading many many cases online in tribute/escpae message boards did not fully fix the fault.something must be done about this make/model/year vehicle before people start submitting these complaints with injury listings. view

I purchased a brand new vw passat gls 2002, on june 18, 2002 at commonwealth vw audi, 1450 auto mall drive, santa ana ca 92705. unfortunately, the vw passat gls 2002 has not held up to its promise of being a well-engineered car. after less than 9 months of ownership, i had to bring the car to the dealership for repairs 3 times, which is a far drive from my present residence in highland, ca. i purchased a brand new car with the intention of having a reliable mode of transportation for the two-hour trip back and fourth from tustin to ontario on a daily basis for work. i had confidence in volkswagen because of its prestigious reputation. having successive car problems has made me reluctant to drive this car. the first breakdown was in oct. 2002, the mil (malfunction indicator lamp) light came on, the car started to shake, and it lost power on my way to work. i was able to make it and i had the car towed to the dealership. the dealership replaced the defective ignition coil, and set the readiness code. i did not get a loaner car, and the car was left at the dealership for two days. the second time, was in dec. 2003. the exact same problem arose. this time they had replaced all four ignition coils, set the readiness code, and supplied me with a vw rental. the car was in the shop for two days as well. i had lost all confidence in the passat i purchased. the third occasion, as i exited the freeway to get to work, the mil light came on again. i was at a complete stop. when i pressed on the gas, the car jerked two times. i made it to the parking lot of my job, and had the car towed yet another time. this was march 18, 2003. the dealership removed and installed the automatic transmission fluid pan, the transmission speed sender, and the vehicle speed sensor. they supplied me with a 3-day loaner car. the passat stayed in the shop for 4 days. view

2000 ford focus engine sputters and then stalls at high speeds. after sitting on the side of the road and letting the car sit with the engine off, you can start it up and then drive for approximately 10 minutes at high speed before the same problem occurs. at lower speeds the problem is not as prevalent. pinpoint diagnostic computer first provide the mass air flow sensor as the problem. several weeks after the new mass air flow sensor was replaced i had the same problem (exactly the same symptoms). this time the diagnostic computer provided the fuel pump as the problem. i noticed a technical service bulletin from ford about the fuel pulse damper, but they say that bulletins are not of any issue. i have also been able to find many other instances of faulty fuel pumps in the focus through random internet observation. my car is approximately 5 to 6 thousand miles past warranty (miles only, not years) and i will be spending the equivalent of 4 car payments to have the mass air flow sensor and the fuel pump fixed. any information on this problem would be appreciated. view

The engine was not running properly which caused a crack in upper intake manifold forcing excessive coolant into the top end of the engine and upper combustion chamber. this is an on-going problem with the 1996 buick regal. this could have resulted in a fire as indicated by the previous recall notice for the same problem. as a result of this incident, the following service was required: repair electrical failure, clean excessive coolant from upper combustion chambers, remove coolant from top end of engine, replace upper intake assemble and manifold, replace spark plugs, perform injector service, replace the pcv valve, oil and oil filter. although i have an extended warranty, i was still charged $557.17 for the repair. due to the numerous service bulletins, consumer complaints, and previous recall notice for the same situation, this defect should have been detected on march 7, 2002. at that time, i had the routine 60,000 mile service performed even though the car only had 50,480 miles. the total cost for the routine service was $807.00. for these reasons, i should be entitled to a reimbursement of the $557.01 charge. if needed, i will be more than happy to forward a copy of my service records for your review. additionally, i am concerned this recent event has caused damage to the engine and will have long term effects on engine performance requiring additional maintenance. it�??s hard to believe this did not cause damage to the valves and/or lifters. once the extended warranty expires, i will no longer have financial protection for repairs resulting from faulty manufacturing. i hope this safety hazard is resolved before someone is killed by an engine fire. thank you for your assistance in this matter. view

I have a 1997 buick century with windshield wiper problems. by way of history, i have had to take this vehicle to the shop twice (and i believe possibly a third time) because the windshield wipers would not function. each time, the problem related to some fitting that had to be retightened (i was never shown the precise part by the repair personnel). now, although the windshield wipers will work properly in the rain, when they are turned off, they go to the upright position, obscuring the windshield. i have learned today, from the nhtsa website and similar sources, that these problems are well known to buick. upon reflection, and with 20-20 hindsight, i believe it is highly likely that this problem is caused by the excessive torque generated by the wiper motor at its highest setting (when set at the top setting, the wipers generate so much force, they cause the entire vehicle to shake). view

My new 2003 yamaha road star warrior motorcycle exerienced a catastrophic brake system failure on 7/23/03. the motorcycle had approximately 630 miles on it at the time of the failure (current odometer is 632), and was purchased new from motoprimo motorsports, minneapolis at the beginning of may. the motorcycle experienced damage to the right (rear brake) footrest assembly, and was replaced with a stock part. the brake assembly caused minute friction to be applied to the rear brake rotor, superheating it. the break line exploded, spraying brake fluid onto the white-hot rotor. this ignited the brake fluid, causing a sizeable fire. there was no rider on the bike at the time, but if this had happened while riding, this problem would have caused a complete failure of the rear braking system, potentially resulting in an accident. view

Steering: rack and pinion, currently own a 1999 grand prix, and had to have the steering rack assembly replaced, the problem that occured is the same problem that was recalled in the 1997, and 1998 model grand prixs nhtsa campaign id number 02v286000. summary: certain passenger vehicles and mini vans have lower pinion bearings in the power rack and pinion assembly in which the retainer tabs were not crimped properly. these and some other retainers used in vehicles assembled between january 1, 1996 and october 31, 1997, could fail and permit the ball bearings to escape. consequence: if this occurs, the pinion shaft can be forced upward during left turns and back down as the steering wheel is moved back and to the right. if the pinion shaft moves further, the driver will need to exert more effort to turn the steering wheel, similar to a vehicle without power assisted steering. if the pinion shaft moves even further, the driver will require much higher effort to turn left and may not be able to turn the wheel as much as intended. with the maximum pinion shaft movement, which requires internal gear component damage, the driver can encounter high resistance to turning left, followed by unintended power assist to the right. in any of these conditions, a crash could occur. view

I purchased a brand new vw passat gls 2002, on june 18, 2002 at commonwealth vw audi, 1450 auto mall drive, santa ana ca 92705. unfortunately, the vw passat gls 2002 has not held up to its promise of being a well-engineered car. after less than 9 months of ownership, i had to bring the car to the dealership for repairs 3 times, which is a far drive from my present residence in highland, ca. i purchased a brand new car with the intention of having a reliable mode of transportation for the two-hour trip back and fourth from tustin to ontario on a daily basis for work. i had confidence in volkswagen because of its prestigious reputation. having successive car problems has made me reluctant to drive this car. the first breakdown was in oct. 2002, the mil (malfunction indicator lamp) light came on, the car started to shake, and it lost power on my way to work. i was able to make it and i had the car towed to the dealership. the dealership replaced the defective ignition coil, and set the readiness code. i did not get a loaner car, and the car was left at the dealership for two days. the second time, was in dec. 2003. the exact same problem arose. this time they had replaced all four ignition coils, set the readiness code, and supplied me with a vw rental. the car was in the shop for two days as well. i had lost all confidence in the passat i purchased. the third occasion, as i exited the freeway to get to work, the mil light came on again. i was at a complete stop. when i pressed on the gas, the car jerked two times. i made it to the parking lot of my job, and had the car towed yet another time. this was march 18, 2003. the dealership removed and installed the automatic transmission fluid pan, the transmission speed sender, and the vehicle speed sensor. they supplied me with a 3-day loaner car. the passat stayed in the shop for 4 days. view

Ignition coil failure on my 2002 audi a4 (21k miles). per my dealer service advisor, car must be towed to a dealer. lost several hours at work and was given substandard rental car, repair was not completed on the day estimated. per audi of america policy, only one coil is replaced, we will wait for another coil to prove faulty (which almost everyone assumes will happen, even dealer), i will have to wait at road side again, at which point audi will replace all remaining coils. My 2000 dodge caravan with only 29,450 miles developed a severe vibration in the steering wheel accompanied by a disconcerting noise when braking. prior to the vibration developing, i noticed the braking power had diminished. upon investigation, i found the brake fluid was below the minimum level and had to add fluid. this improved the brake pedal performance but the stopping power was still subpar. also, whenever i wash the vehicle there has always been a tremendous amount of black brake dust on and around the front wheels which raises environmental concerns for me. i took the car to the dealer who found the front brake pads were worn out and the front rotors were rusted, pitted, and slightly warped. even though the car is only 2 1/2 years old and had only 29,450 miles, daimler chrysler refused any warranty consideration on the brakes. i had to pay nearly $300 for repairs. when i called the daimler chrysler consumer hotline, i was given the impression that this condition was considered "normal." the minivan is driven gently with about 70% of the mileage being in-town driving and about 30% highway driving. on previous vehicles i have owned, the average life of front brakes has been about 85,000 miles. needless to say i am concerned about the safety my family in the vehicle if the brakes are designed with such poor durability. view

My 1999 chevrolet monte carlo ls, engine 3100 v-6, has needed a particularly expensive repair twice. this repair was to fix a coolant leak near/on the intake manifold gasket. the first repair (at 52,000 miles) was done under warranty, the second (at 90,000 miles) was done at a local service station because the car was no longer under warranty. with this problem, the coolant leaks out fairly quickly, and could cause an engine fire if the engine gets too hot, also the coolant is flammable. this problem was the subject of a recall of several gm models with 2000 to 2002 model year cars (chevy, pontiac, etc) with the 3100 and 3800 engine models. however, the 1999 models have not been recalled, and my car with i know many others have the same problems with the same engine parts as the 2000 to 2002 model year cars. i paid the second repair at my own expense of approximately $825. i have called chevrolet and they have denied any reimbursement for my expenses incurred for the repair. is there any other way i can ssek to have the repair reimbursed? in any case, shouldn't the recall affect the 1999 or previous models? view

I have had numerous problems with my jeep wrangler 1998. this is a partial list i sent to chrysler: i bought my jeep with just 3600 miles on it from a dealer in 1999. from day one i started experiencing problems. many of them i returned to the service department. some they were able to fix, others, after many return trips, they were 'unable to duplicate the problem'. 1. gauges would stop working while driving - i brought the vehicle in 5 times before they were able to duplicate and finally fix the problem. 2. this was also true of the blinkers that not always worked - or worked all at the same time. 3. my hazards still do not work every time. 4. the air conditioner goes out when driving,very uncomfortable when it is hot and raining. 5. the sound bar has never worked properly - first it would only come in some times - now never. 6. headers are cracked - bad. they have been welded several times. when i went to have them welded it was found they were welded before my purchase - at 3600 mil! they are still cracked, welding does not hold. i can not get anyone to replace them because even exhaust specialists say it is too cumbersome. the dealer charges way more than i have considering the number of repairs and the price of gas - at 12 mpg. 7. drivers seat belt locks tightly with any amount of pressure on the brakes - it has now gotten to the point it locks just while driving. 8. windows - the zippers broke almost immediately - i paid alot to have these replaced. the back window now has a cut in it and is very difficult to see through. 9. the top has never quite fit right; it has always leaked and been extremely noisy - more so than anyone else's that i know. it has also come apart at the seams. the dealership has not been of any help. they wanted to charge outrageous amounts just for diagnostics, even when i had the best warranty. i've also had problems with the door molding coming out immediately, grinding in the steering wheel, grinding while trying to put it in reverse and more. view

I own a 2000 victory v92c. it has suffered several problems, all that have been dealt with by victory in a timely fashion, but i feel that it is necessary to report this matter to you because other victory owners have experienced similar issues. the nhtsa was instrumental in causing a recall for the fuel pump, of which i suffered one failure. victory replaced that original pump without question. my main area of concern is the original transmission. on 7/26/01, the front drive sprocket was replaced after it spun on while i was on a tour, with just over 15,000 miles on the bike. on 8/24/02, my local dealer noted that the front drive sprocket had again worn out, at just over 31,000 miles. by 9/24/02, victory had replaced my entire transmission. my area of concern is that i have seen several victory motorcycles from 1999 and 2000 that have been replaced (there was a change in design in 2001, which seems to have fixed the problem) due to similar transmission issues. this is something that the nhtsa should look into. view

I recently took delivery of a new infinity fx45. it now has about 600 miles on it. the headlights are aimed too low to illuminate the road ahead. visibility is severely limited to about 2+ car lengths ahead. i cannot maintain minimal speed on an unlit highway, or when other cars are not traveling with me. the dealer states that the headlights are "within factor spec" and will do nothing to assist. he will not check it at night; nor will he check my car against others in the shop or on the dealership floor. the dealer adds that it is impossible to adjust these lights as there is no adjustment capability built into the headlight module. the dealer, pepe infinity, white plains, ny 10601, will no longer discuss the problem with me; nor has anyone contacted me to attempt to resolve the issue. if i cannot drive the car after dark, i want to get another car or have the problem fixed. infinity usa says exactly the same thing. their position is that if infinity released the car, it must meet all federal specifications, and will do nothing more. they did agree to let me visit another infinity dealer to "independently" check the headlights, but it will probably be at my own expense. in the meantime, the car is virtually undriveable at night unless driven in a lighted area and at low speeds. view

At just over 100000 miles, we lost 3rd gear. this ofcourse happened in traffic going up a hill. i have read several complaints regarding the suburban transmission. just wanted to share the warning signs: transmission began to "slip" several days prior to the total loss of 3rd gear. in stop and go traffic situations, when shifting from 2nd to 3rd, truck seemed to slip into neutral. rpm would rev and after backing off the accelerator seemed to straighten up. however, not long after, vehicle would not shift into 3rd. with an automatic, that leaves very few options when in the middle of traffic. i had manually shift from 1st to 2nd and manually down shift. luckily, i was not on the highway; i was able to stay below 40mph and drive in 2nd and got it home. now we are looking for further information that may help levy the cost of fixing the problem. looks like gm is aware and refuses to recall. view

"and had been serviced." after arriving and getting in the car, i noticed that the odometer had been changed, because it was now reading 48,883 miles. i then questioned paul mooney about the additional miles and was told "been everything had fixed." on 4/15/03, i was back at carl gregory having electrical problems in the dashboard. and the air conditioner was blowing out hot air. in the month of may 2003, i received a recall notice about the driver's seat bolt being defective, which may break causing the seat to suddenly recline. i took the car in on 5/27/03 to have the bolt replaced. after being at the dealership for about two minutes i was told that "the car was ready to go." i asked if the bolt had been replaced? i do not belive it had because it was not gone long enough. i aso had to request a customer's copy of the invoice. when i received the invoice i notice that the invoice stated that the car was gray. the car is black. please look into this matter. thank you jacqueline riley 6069 hunter ridge circle columbus, ga. 31907 journeybegin2@juno.com. view

I purchased a used 1996 ford crown victoria from cal worthington ford in alaska a little less than three years ago. when i purchased the car, i also purchased a premium warranty policy and the vehicle is still under warranty. the vehicle has heated rear-view mirrors. a little over two years ago after a snow storm, the passenger-side rear-view mirror cracked straight down the middle. snow had covered the mirror and i assume when the mirror heated, it cracked. four months ago after another snow storm, the driver�??s side mirror cracked straight down the middle. once again, it was cold and when the mirror started heating up it cracked. please note - i always brush the snow off my car before i warm it up. request �?? ford motor co. replaces the mirrors at no cost to me i contacted cal worthington ford and asked them to replace the mirrors under warranty and they refused. i have two reasons for this request: 1) the mirrors are defective and pose a safety hazard. the mirrors cracked because of a poor engineering design. the mirrors didn't crack because of negligence caused on my part. 2) the car is still under warranty. view

I purchased replacement tires for a 1999 chevrolet astro on this date. the dealer firestone tire & service centers, 7950 e speedway, tucson, az 85715 represented the tires as suitable for my vehicle. after i got home i discovered the tires, firestone fr380 p215/75r15, were rated for 1742 lbs at 44 psi but this should be reduced to 1585 lbs when using this tire on a truck or multipurpose vehicle which, i assume, would pertain to a van as well. the tire just meets the minimum requirements of the van which is a load capacity of 1575 lbs. but it meets the requirement only when inflated to 44 psi. chevrolet recommends a tire pressure of 35 psi and when the firestone installed the tires they inflated them to only 30 psi. i increased the pressure to 44 psi since only then would the tires meet the van specs. i tried to get the dealer to upgrade the tires about 25 days after i bought them but they said they met the requirements of my van. later when i went in for an oil change the change said the tires were over inflated and reduced them all to 35 psi. i am very concerned that the tires are not safe but cannot get consistent advice nor any action from the dealer. does the nhsta have any standing in such a dispute ? view

I have had numerous problems with my jeep wrangler 1998. this is a partial list i sent to chrysler: i bought my jeep with just 3600 miles on it from a dealer in 1999. from day one i started experiencing problems. many of them i returned to the service department. some they were able to fix, others, after many return trips, they were 'unable to duplicate the problem'. 1. gauges would stop working while driving - i brought the vehicle in 5 times before they were able to duplicate and finally fix the problem. 2. this was also true of the blinkers that not always worked - or worked all at the same time. 3. my hazards still do not work every time. 4. the air conditioner goes out when driving,very uncomfortable when it is hot and raining. 5. the sound bar has never worked properly - first it would only come in some times - now never. 6. headers are cracked - bad. they have been welded several times. when i went to have them welded it was found they were welded before my purchase - at 3600 mil! they are still cracked, welding does not hold. i can not get anyone to replace them because even exhaust specialists say it is too cumbersome. the dealer charges way more than i have considering the number of repairs and the price of gas - at 12 mpg. 7. drivers seat belt locks tightly with any amount of pressure on the brakes - it has now gotten to the point it locks just while driving. 8. windows - the zippers broke almost immediately - i paid alot to have these replaced. the back window now has a cut in it and is very difficult to see through. 9. the top has never quite fit right; it has always leaked and been extremely noisy - more so than anyone else's that i know. it has also come apart at the seams. the dealership has not been of any help. they wanted to charge outrageous amounts just for diagnostics, even when i had the best warranty. i've also had problems with the door molding coming out immediately, grinding in the steering wheel, grinding while trying to put it in reverse and more. view

I have had numerous problems with my jeep wrangler 1998. this is a partial list i sent to chrysler: i bought my jeep with just 3600 miles on it from a dealer in 1999. from day one i started experiencing problems. many of them i returned to the service department. some they were able to fix, others, after many return trips, they were 'unable to duplicate the problem'. 1. gauges would stop working while driving - i brought the vehicle in 5 times before they were able to duplicate and finally fix the problem. 2. this was also true of the blinkers that not always worked - or worked all at the same time. 3. my hazards still do not work every time. 4. the air conditioner goes out when driving,very uncomfortable when it is hot and raining. 5. the sound bar has never worked properly - first it would only come in some times - now never. 6. headers are cracked - bad. they have been welded several times. when i went to have them welded it was found they were welded before my purchase - at 3600 mil! they are still cracked, welding does not hold. i can not get anyone to replace them because even exhaust specialists say it is too cumbersome. the dealer charges way more than i have considering the number of repairs and the price of gas - at 12 mpg. 7. drivers seat belt locks tightly with any amount of pressure on the brakes - it has now gotten to the point it locks just while driving. 8. windows - the zippers broke almost immediately - i paid alot to have these replaced. the back window now has a cut in it and is very difficult to see through. 9. the top has never quite fit right; it has always leaked and been extremely noisy - more so than anyone else's that i know. it has also come apart at the seams. the dealership has not been of any help. they wanted to charge outrageous amounts just for diagnostics, even when i had the best warranty. i've also had problems with the door molding coming out immediately, grinding in the steering wheel, grinding while trying to put it in reverse and more. view

The left bracket/track that attaches the driver's seat to the floor board broke about a year ago. i have had to drive with a broken and unstable seat ever since. yesterday while on the freeway i attempted to stretch my back and the bracket/track on the right side broke! this caused me to swerve an nearly hit the middle cement retainer wall! now there is nothing to hold the driver's seat securely to the floor. i have a friend who also owned a 1994 mustang and the exact same thing happened to his seat too. in fact, everything that went wrong with his, went wrong with mine. we both have had to have the transmissions replaced (twice!), idle sensors replaced, complete brake system replaced, radiators replaced, water pumps replaced, the check engine lights remain on all the time no matter what is done to the car, and the same brackets on the same seats have broken. after the multiple number of complaints regarding the same seat issue, doesn't that constitute some sort of recourse for the customer to have repairs done at ford's expense? it's obviously not an owner's issue if so many owners are having the same problem. it's obviously an issue of ford using sub-standard materials in their manufacturing of the vehicles. as i said, this just about caused me to have a very major accident on the freeway. i could have been killed. if ford does not stand behind their product and take responsibility for the defective parts in their cars they are going to find themselves with a very huge law suit when some on finally does get killed. view

My has a 2000 jeep grand cherokee limited and the air conditioner has melted where it plugs into the resistor that goes to the blower motor. i went to a local salvage yard in hopes of finding a wrecked vehicle similar to ours to but the wiring harness. to my dismay he had 2 but there was only one problem they had burned, with fires starting at the resistor described above. i left jeep an email explaining what i found and that was afraid ours would come to the same fate. there response was that there were no active recalls on this vehicle and that there was nothing they could do. so i went the a local jeep dealer to buy a new wiring harness($500 their cost)and was informed there was a patch or fix for the problem. i don't mind spending the money to fix our car but if there was not a serious problem why would there be a patch or quick fix for the problem. we have a 2 yr. old son and i really don't want my wife to use this car but we have no other choice. i just wonder how many other people have had this same problem and never reported it, now there was a recall on certain dodge ram pick ups with this same problem, why hasn't the jeep grand cherokee been recalled? view

It was during the fast freeze when this incident took place. we went from 45 degrees to 20 degrees with in 2-3 hours. it was raining at first then switched to ice & snow. we put the 2002 ford explorer in 4x4 drive due to the weather conditions. as we were entering the express way we loss control of the truck only going 28 miles per hour. we spun out of control and hit the guard rail. it was as though we had no 4x4 drive. we called the police to get a accident report for our insurance. we then took the truck a week later to martin buick to fix the body damage to the left side of the truck. they took the truck to lasko ford across the street to work on the 4x4 system. they took the clutches out and drained the transmission fluid. they found damage to the clutches. these parts were blackened and glazed over. they said that this looks like wear and tear for this truck and that the truck was not maintained. we regularly changed fluids and the manual states that the truck does not need maintenance until 150,000 miles. i asked how could a new truck have so much damage to the 4x4 and they said that it must have been in 4x4 wheel drive for a long time. i know and so do my passengers that this is not true. the dash board always indicated 2 wheel drive not 4x4 unless i put it in 4x4. the automatic 4x4 never turned on the 4x4 drive i have always had to put it in 4x4 if i needed to use it, which has only been one other time. so for a truck that is one year old and only been driven in 4x4 wheel drive twice there seems to be an awful lot of damage to my clutches and my fluid so burnt. the four wheel drive on this truck. i will have the module that controls the "control trac" 4x4 wheel drive system tested to see if it fails to activate or de-activate the 4x4. then i would like ford to fix the problem out of their own expense and stop giving their clients the run-a-round and to reimburse me for my time and expenses. view

My 2002 buick century odometer is over recording miles by 4%. after taking my car to the buick dealer two times i am informed that gm responded that there are no federal regulations regarding the accuracy of an odometer. buick (g.m.) responded that 4% error is acceptable to them. i have a copy of the g.m. response to the dealer(g.m. document id#1216409---service vme-odometer accuracy, #pi00746-(12/24/2002). when i file my federal tax return-form 2106 business expense since i travel 40,000 miles a year i would be over reporting 1.600 miles at a 4% rate. is there a federal regulation regarding the accuracy of an odometer. i am able to find state and federal regulations regarding fraud and roll-back of an odometer but nothing regarding the accuracy. this would also have an effect on the regulated fuel mpg requirements. any published mpg would need to be reduced by 4%.
