The front air bags in my wife's 2002 honda odyssey failed to deploy in a high speed collision. she skid on and icy i 470 bridge over the ohio river westbound in wheeling wv (wheeling police incident # 0303696). at 50 mph, she spun and hit three subsequent, front-end impacts to the concrete siderail of the i 470 bridge. the front end is extensively damaged, including superstructure. the "first thing the officer said" (kathy stout, driver) was "wow, the air bags didn't go off." general manager paul wineman, ohio valley honda says that his people are not qualified to assess the damage and determine whether the airbags should have deployed. he told me on the phone yesterday that "his plan" was to have someone from honda that was qualified look at it, and that he would call me back, but in 15 minutes of conversation he never would commit to that. i'm afraid to drive this car again, after repairs, not knowing whether the air bags should have deployed or not. furthermore, the best the dealership can do is have unqualified personnel run the system through a "simulator" to determine whether it will, in fact, deploy in the future. needless to say, i didn't sleep too well last night. i can send photos if that would help. i wonder if you can help.  view

I received notice regarding the seat back of my 1995 saturn wagon. my car does exhibit what was described - when i lean back on the seat it reclines backwards. i scheduled the repair to be done at the local saturn dealership in hurricane, wv. i was surprised when i took it in that they said my car was finished in 20 minutes. when i got in and leaned back to put my seat belt on, the seat fell back into a reclining position. when i asked what had they done, i was informed that my car was built one month prior to time period they covered and no work was done to my car.  view

Pickup truck drive train binds up during 2 wheel driving. the front axle (4x4) does not allow the front wheels to disengage. truck has been to the dealer 3 times and dodge says this is the way they all are. at 4272 miles the front tires show significant feathering, and is stalling out when driving around corners in low gear mode (@ intersections and parking spaces). dodge says that the front and rear axles are not limited slip but positive traction and recommends that i push in the clutch to keep from stalling. they want me to double-clutch to get through an intersection when i make left hand turns? i feel that this is a design error with safety implications.  view

I purchased a vehicle form chesrown gmc/kia in columbus ohio. i bought it on june 3rd 2002 paid $10500.00+ $892.00 (extend warranty)when i bought the car i opted for the extended warranty. since that time, i have had fuel pump, feul switch, feul line, fuel injectors of my car go bad (more than once!). while driving the car on a heavily traveled street the engine just stopped! my husband got out to push the vehicle putting him in danger. i took the vehicle out the next day and on three separate occasions the engine ceased. i took it to the dealer and the technicians said i dont know what it is & they finally concluded it had a bad fuel pump. they replaced it. less than 24 hours later, i was at the shop again! the fuel pump that they put in didn't work either. i have a serious health problem which requires i be on blood thinners. an accident for a normal person would be harmful, for me it would mean almost certain death. i am scared to drive the car. i have spent thousands of dollars trying to fix it. i am contacting you to ask for your help. my uncle had the same make & model (old aurora 97') his could not be fixed. i believe that this car is a lemon. i have put more than enough time, money & grief into trying to get it working. this particular vehicle is a dangerous one. please help me with this issue. i am just asking for what every reasonable person would. a mechanically safe vehicle. i appreciate you taking this issue seriously, as i do not want to continue to put myself in unnecessary danger. i would be happy to provide you with every record of service & dates etc if you would like to have them (once i get it back form the shop). sincerely, susan m. pendleton the first failure happened on march 6th evening. the next on 3/7/03, etc...  view

Front rotors warped after 6 mo./11,000 miles, replaced rotors and pads. warped again at 15 months, 33,000, but used for additional year+. replaced again at 32 months/60,000. again warped after 40 mo/73,000, but used 5 months. replacing again with high performance slotted/drilled and keeping my fingers crossed.  view

Front seat belt retractor locked on passenger side - checked to see if it was jammed - no it's just locked in a close position.  view

Front windshield make a fluttering noise at speeds greater then 55 mph. took motor vehicle to dealer 8 months ago they replaced the molding and they were fine to about a month ago. now they say they don't have a place to road test it that they can do 55 mph.  view

Purchase date feb 12, 2003. engine light went on after car shook a bit immediately after starting car. told cause was "miss firing" taken to dealer. problem resolved.  view

Consumer has a problem with vehicle, while driving down the freeway vehicle either down shifts or suges forward. he states these conditions happen when he is driving at highway speed, between 55-60 mph. he has taken this vehicle to the dealership twice, the first time the mechanic had no clue of what was happening. then two weeks later, while driving electrical system failed, and he had to have vehicle towed.  view

While driving the front passenger side spring snapped at the bottom. the spring punctured the tire which caused the vehicle to swerve as the passenger side of the vehicle collapsed to the ground and skid approximately 15 feet to a stop. the tire dealer replaced both front springs, the tire and struts.  view

1.) rough idle, and oil light intermittently comes on when idling and only goes off when accelerating, but often stalls out, and doesn't want to re-start. (had oil changed twice to get excess gas out of it from trying to start it.) had to tow car three times. paid $1,000 to try to get it fixed, but on the way home it did the same thing. 2.) cooling fan quit working and car overheated and i paid to have the radiator replaced, as petcock was leaking. mechanic didn't notice that fan wasn't working, so it overheated on the way home with a new radiator. i figured that out. once the fan was replaced with a working fan, no more overheating. after-market radiator was bigger than the original, causing the at fluid line to get sawed off by the pulley 3 times, before someone just plugged the line and installed a separate at fluid "mini radiator type" cooler. 3.) transmission drags; car has just over 70,000 miles on it. has repeatable problem when starting out and shifting from first to second gear, usually jerking forward when it shifts. putting car into drive after starting it usually ends up in the car stalling, and the idle is different when it's in gear than when in park or neutral. 4.) i received a notice about a class action settlement regarding a defective tfi module, but every mechanic i spoke with said that wasn't the problem, but the notice said that a bad tfi module wouldn't necessarily always make the car stall when it's going bad, just sometimes. stalled in rush hour once. 5.) the driver side automatic seatbelt quit working, which caused the plastic guide for the belt to break, and when i went to ford to try to get the part, they couldn't figure out which one it was, and said that they weren't planning to have the parts available after 2002 anyway. often, i about got strangled, as did others who rode in my tempo, when we opened the door to get out of the car. 6.)from the car overheating, the finish on the hood is peeling and cracking.  view

Oil/fluid leaks from four spots (transmission area, valve cover gaskets, power steering pump and rack & pinion) mysteriously occurred at the same time and almost set the vehicle ablazed when the oil dripped onto exhaust pipe just below the engine compartment. the car dealers serviceman advised me not to drive the car any longer until it is fixed because it will surely be on fire.  view

2002 honda crv purchased at brickell honda 12/02 in miami, fl. on 3/6/2003, as car was traveling at approximately 50 mph on a busy highway (palmetto expressway) during rush hour, the car turned off, steering locked. thankfully i was able to get out of the way of oncoming traffic. it was a miracle i didn't get hit by others traveling at even faster speeds. i took the car, same evening to braman honda, the closest dealership, where the following day it was repaired. supposedly, the computer had not been programmed at the time of purchase. this is unacceptable and irresponsible. i could have died, caused significant damage to myself, the car and many others on the same road that day.  view

Just purchased 03 lincoln ls v-8 sport three weeks ago, already into service. the tranny is slow on up and down shifts. the service dept. ( neil lincoln mercury @ 1900 rt 112 medford ny) said this was a known problem on my initial call, just bring it in and they will reprogram the tranny should solve the problem. my second complaint is i noticed an excessive amount of uncomfortalbe heat underneath the driver side dash while driving, i suspect this is due to the lack of an insulated cover. this cover i come to find out was in the 2000, 2001, 2002, model years. unfortunately some genuis decided to forget it. that's a problem, as it is not just a little warm, but really hot, i can't imagine my complaint was the first for this, as none of the 03's are equiped with this protective cover. the lincoln support customer service has advised me i must talk with service, as this is not a part on the 03, and service tells me to speak to lincoln, as this is a valid complaint. what the heck am i suppose to do? oh and back to the tranny what if it decides to just go to mush while i'm crossing an intersection. to late to say sorry then! i've heard that the 30,000 mile tranny tune up will often solve this tranny issue, can i make them service it now i've got 1,500 logged to date. thank you for the assistance, it is very much appreciated, sorry for the long message. brian  view

The transmission went out on my 1999 chrysler sebring convertible at less than 45000 miles. the transmission shop tellm me that they are seeing alot of these cars coming in with the same problem. 2 months after the transmission was replaced the torque converter went out, apparently the same problem with the transmission not being made properly for my car.  view

Water pump leaks radiator coolant. this has led to engine-overheating and may cause severe engine failure (a safety issue). on checking with dealer, the estimated repair and replacement of water pump may cost around $750. this is an unusually high cost for water pump replacement. with the car being a 96 model having only a mileage of about 50 k, this kind of water pump failure is probably unseen on most other car models. therefore, it is suggested to the manufacturer to investigate into possible design defects of the water pump.  view

Electric door locks on my 1994 lesabre will not unlock the doors. took it to the dealer and as soon as i started to describe the problem he laughed and said it would cost $180 per door to fix, and that he had done many of them. my sister and a co-worker also have lesabres and they both have had the exact same problem. buick has apparently issued a technical service bulletin on this problem but refuses to fix the problem.  view

When the brakes were applied, the abs light appeared on the dashboard. braking power hesitated, which caused the to have no brakes. the brakes activated without driver application. yet, when the brakes were applied, there was a delay in braking.  view

Electrical:mcs unit,radio/cassette player defect. mcs unit malfunctioned(screen black out and all operations ceased)mb may exchange if under warranty and no after market electrical items installed..they will not tell the consumer why? the $1550 mcs unit malfunctioned...an off duty mb tech was enlisted to perform an internal check of the mcs unit and found a defect that attributed to the malfunction of the mcs unit that should result in the immediate recall of all mb mcs units:i.t.check results: the cassette player motor has a lubricant enclosed in a clear housing, when the mcs unit becomes overheated(via dir sunlight,hi vol-even when regulated by the bose system and continuous stereo operation...most mb owners won't duplicate these conditions as mbusa hopes),the lubricant(a gel that became liquefied by the heat) will leak from the clear housing and drip onto the circuit board directly below(the circuit board will have approx 1/2" round greasy spot),the effects of the liquid lubricant leaking onto the circuit board will result in a 'short circuit' of the mcs unit. the mb dealer service dept was very vague in their description of the mcs malfunction, so i requested ,in writing, a detailed explanation of the cause of the mcs unit malfunction. i was denied... when i notified,in writing, a mb dealer service dept of my request to meet with their regional rep and the dealer service manager, my letters were not returned and upon a personal visit,forewritten, i was advised,by the 'discourteous' assistant service manager that the service manager was 'in a meeting', after written requests were sent directly to the mb service manager and the owner, registered letters and faxes were sent(to me,work,my employer) from the mb dealer attorney to cease and desist from contacting the mb dealer and was accused of criminal harassment(my employer was also sent copies of my personal letters,indicating i was involved in criminal harassment(whereby threatening my employment and slandering my name, by the mb dealer attorney).  view

Chrysler's improper action on air bag recall #02v293000 . when symptoms appeared 2 years prior to this recall, the dealer replaced both the clock spring and air bag, based on chrysler's best service information. at the time i complained to a regional service representative stating that air bags rarely go bad and only need to be replaced after activation. he agreed by compensating half of the total repair cost. lo and behold this recall shows up identifying this safety issue. i submitted the proper paperwork to chrysler to participate in the recall and they denied the air bag portion of my repair stating it was not part of the recall. i feel total consideration should be given to the entire repair as this was their original solution to this safety issue. i felt my hands were tied at the time of repair because i wanted the safety of having the air bag for my family and was actually afraid of accidental deployment. you should direct chrysler to provide full remedy qualified participants in this program. do not allow them to shirk this obligation.  view

2003 toyota camry 3.0l v6 (midyear 210hp motor) the vehicle did not accelerate the way it was designed. the toyota representative stated it was normal. the consumer believed it was dangerous when the accelerator pedal was pressed, because sometimes the vehicle did not move immediately. when the pedal accelerator pedal was pushed further toward the floor, the vehicle bolted out into traffic with a rush of power. the toyota representative stated that was how the car was engineered, and he could not do anything about it. the lead mechanic said the consumer needed to get used to it. it had been 5 months since the consumer purchased the vehicle.  view

Consumer loss control of the vehicle and hit some trees, and none of the air bags deployed. one person was injured.  view

The vehicle developed severe vibration and immediately the left rear tire experienced complete tread separation. this caused damage to the left fender. the driver was able to maintain control and changed over to a spare tire to continue his trip. on another occasion, there was a thumping sound and the right rear tire developed a bulge and became unusable.  view

Faulty brakes-in dec,2002, had to hit brakes when vehicle pulled in front of me. i immediately lost control of vehicle-no steering- and car spun several times. appeared brakes locked up even though i have abs system. 2/2003-same thing. was couple lengths behind vehicle when car in front suddenly pulled to left lane because a veh had almost stopped in road. when i pushed on brakes, they again locked up with no steering control causing me to hit vehicle in front of me even though i was trying to steer vehicle off into emer lane. was going about 55 and air bags did not even deploy. had problems with brakes/tires squeaking in 12/2001 & took in for repair. was told it was a transmission problem & was repaired under warranty but car still clicked during turns.  view

Abs lights come on/off.  view

The base of the driver's seat separated where the bolt screws into the seat frame, which caused the left front corner of the seat to break from the frame when customer sat down.  view

All 4 doors unlocked without warning. problem occurred most when the temperature was cold.  view

My 1996 dodge stratus has 37,000 miles. in february 2002 i took it to sears for an oil change. also asking them to see where oil was leaking (noticed oil on concrete in garage). they said valve cover gasket so i got that fixed for about $72.00 all along thinking that there were not that many miles driven. and to bad the warranty had just expired. i think it was 5 years or 25,000 miles. within the next 2 months oil was leaking again. took it in and end up paying $702.00 because the head gasket was bad. the mechanic showed it to me and jokingly said isn't it funny how this can be so cheap that it almost was deteriorated and the warranty 5yrs is up. even though i had not drove 25,000 miles yet. well the final blow , on oct 10,2002 i kept hearing a clunk when i made left or right turn. took it to the rhoden dodge. we were told that right & left tie rod ends were loose & sway bar links worn & loose(2 tie rods,& 2 ball joints) i asked them to perform an alignment and transmission flush ,totaling $779.00 because what else will break. well in jan. 2003 the brakes were on medal another $190.00. i'm afraid to take it in to the garage. there is only 37,000 miles driven and i am hearing another noise when i turn left and right. when the brakes were fixed they told me they test drove it and heard nothing . some how it seems that 5 yrs or 25,000 miles is telling me that i should have sold it before that because i think the company knew things would start happening. is there anything you can do to help me. please, this car is a lemon with only 37,000 miles.  view

While driving 60 mph the vehicles abs system failed which resulted in an accident.  view

While driving on city streets, the traffic in front of the consumer came to a stop, when the consumer applied the brakes the vehicle did not shift to a lower gear and the vehicle finally fish tailed to a stop.  view

I also own a 2002 rodeo and my abs has failed twice now. it has been repaired under warrenty, but it does seem to be a pattern in this model.  view

Consumer states that driver's seatback broke and collapsed backward. consumer has to use a piece of wood to position seat back correctly.  view

Transmission will not shift into overdrive until speeds of 58-60 are reached - when accelerating. took vehicle to dealer for the complaint. dealer tech said vehicle would not shift during 'agressive accelerating' . driver must ease up on gas pedal before transmission would shift to overdrive. said this was normal. never heard of an automatic transmission with such requirements. none that i have ever owned required an easing up on gas in order to shift. when i followed dealers instructions, vehicle will still not shift until it has been driven for some period of time. under such conditions, i can't get into overdrive for the trips i take, so the overdrive does me no good. vehicle gets very poor mileage as a relult. don't think this is a normal condition. i only have less than 2000 miles (since oct 2002) because of such driving conditions and poor mileage.  view

Power passenger sliding door does not operate correctly and will not close and latch fully. on original complaint november 1, we were told an updated control module was in the works upon checking recently the other service writer said he knew nothing of any update. on february the 7 while driving over 20 mph the power sliding door began to operate as if the door was opening, the doors were locked at the time. on february 28, we took the van in for oil an change, and reported the door problem, then the service writer said an update to repair was in the works. she then suggested that the power doors be disconnected for now until an update is completed. the service writer said we have had lots of complaints about the doors operating this way, this does seem to be an unsafe condition and the answer for the service department is to suggest it be disconnected indicates it is wide spread.  view

The side air bags in my 2002 mercury mountaineer deployed for no reason. although no one was seriously injured because the car was traveling at less than 5 miles per hour at the time, this could have been a serious situation. ford's response has been less than satisfactory. despite the fact that i prompltly notified ford of the incident, no one at ford's consumer affairs department has contacted me to investigate the problem as promised. in fact, when i called ford on march 1, 2003 to follow-up, a telephone representative informed me that ford's computer records show that a consumer affairs agent had contacted me on february 27, 2003. i received no such call and i am still waiting to hear from an agent from that department. in addition, ford did not authorize the service department of my dealership to examine the vehicle until friday, january 28, 2003.  view

2002 ford escape, 12642 miles on vehicle. the vehicle stalled while driving in rush hour traffic. vehicle was hard to steer and braking was difficult. was able to coast to a stop. restarted vehicle. took vehicle to local dealership on 2/28/03 for service.  view

Vehicle fire-2003 ford 350 van-fire occurred as a result of an electrical malfunction in engine per fire analysis-vin 1ftss34lxha27785.  view

In 65,000 miles the fuel sensor has failed requiring replacement. checked engine light comes on and remains on.  view

The vehicle was taken to the rv dealer to put air in the tires. the mechanic noticed the rear right springs had cut the liquefied propane line. could cause a fire. the consumer put a temporary fix on the lp line. should be a factory recall to fix and relocate the lp line.  view

Daimler chrysler refuses to reimburse us for clockspring for a 1997 plymouth grand voyager. we replaced the part before we had knowledge of the recall. we submitted the required information for reimbursement and chrysler said that we would not get reimbursed because we replaced the part ourselves after the recall was announced. we were not aware of recall until after replacement when we received another recall notice. we never received the first ones. i feel it should not matter if we replaced the part ourselves after the recall. especially knowing that this failure affected the driver side airbag.  view

While driving vehicle stalls out without warning, mostly when slowing down or coming to a complete stop. contacted chrysler road side assistance and vehicle was towed to the dealership where they were unable to get duplicate the problem. the consumer felt the dealership was responsible for the problem.  view

The consumer stated that the upper ball joints failed. the dealer was notified. the upper and lower ball joints (left & right), upper control arms (left & right) and the sway bars links were replaced. the manufacturer indicated that the vehicle was not included in recall # 01i018000 due to vin.  view
