Engine block cracked when vehicle was approx 1 year old. dodge fixed crack in engine with putty. i was told by dodge service people that was the standard fix for that problem. the crack has either reopened or a new crack has developed. local mechanic reports that the head gasket has also failed. i just thought that this should be noted in your files, since i am sure other owners are seeing same problems. a co-worker has the same year dodge stratus with same engine and transmission, he has same problem- his was fixed at same time my caravan was by the same dealer with same putty. he has since traded his vehicle off. thank you. ** ivoq entry posted after 12-12-02 cut over to artemis***762668  view

1999 kia sportage 4dr ecm trouble code 171 - left bank lean. dealership has had vehicle for over a week and is not able to fix.  view

Design problem with instrument panel, gauges are hard to see. the instrument panel is black, and on a bright clear day it would become difficult to see the speedometer, odometer, and the gas gauge. the problem was especially dangerous when driven on super highways, attempting to set the cruise control, monitor speed when the speed has changed going through different speed zones.  view

Because of the thiness of the rotors. the brakes have stopped working at 29,000 miles. please describe.  view

Consumer took vehicle to the dealer, and had the mechanic look underneath the hood. vehicle was melting inside due to this problem. she had no air condition or heat.  view

Within the first 500 miles after purchasing this vehicle brand new, the spark plugs were determined to be fouled from carbon. a deterioration in performance was noted, along with a smell of gasoline from behind the vehicle as if it were running rich. the vehicle also backfires on decelleration. while my vehicle continues to be usable, other owners have reported a need for complete engine rebuilding to fix cam timing inaccuracies, scuffed cylinder bores from incorrectly seating rings (causing oil burning and carbon fouling of the combustion chamger). some owners have reported the loss of use of the vehicle due to spark plug failure. i have written letters to the manufacturer who responded by phone and determined that my vehicle is "normal". this, without viewing the vehicle or having it looked at by an authorized dealer. i feel it is only a matter of time before the vehicle fails to operate which i believe poses a danger to my safety if this were to happen in high speed traffic.  view

On 06/12/03 while driving, the timing belt broke, which caused the engine to stall. dealer repaired. on 06/24/03 while driving, the timing belt broke again, and caused engine failure. the dealer diagnosed that the "crank" had too much "play" where it fitted into the drivetrain. this caused the timing belt to break twice, which resulted in engine failure. the engine was replaced. the dealer suggested that a part from the manual transmission to the engine from an automatic transmission needed to be installed.  view

Rear suspension arm mounting bushing is inadequate and caused the arms flat end to lock into the asphalt when it broke free from its split pin restrants while i was backing up. had i been traveling at any speed this failure would have most likely caused the vehicle to vault and flip or rip off the rear wheel assembily.  view

I was in a single car accident. i hit a guard rail, went through it and rolled down a 30 foot embankment. i suffered neck and shoulder injuries and back injuries. i have not driven a car since this accident. in the emergency room a nurse said i had a possible spinal compression fracture. i thought my car was suppose to have air bags, i saw the car for the first time since the accident yesterday. the whole car is beat up...the roof, the front, the back both sides, and not even 1 of the air bags deployed. i am so grateful my car had such a high safety rating... yeah right. now i am afraid to drive any car. and now the words air bag safety are a joke to me. * ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut over to artemis**768013  view

Bearings in upper and lower control arms had to be replaced due to deterioration. dealer stated that they could not find problem on several visits while under warranty. finally, after numerous alignments and tire replacements a friend mechanic noticed bearings which caused noise from original purchase date. clicking noise at low speeds and turns turned into loud grind, which is when personal mechanic found problem. one dealership said the problem was front shocks. replaced them but did not solve problem. dealerships are avoiding problem hoping warranties run out. i equate car dealerships/service departments with carnival workers. this is their cash cow!!!!!  view

Transmission blew a back seal. there was metal and brass shavings in the trasnmission. the repair person said he believed the problem was being caused by "rear seal walking or spinning out, probably due to excess driveshaft moving or flexing. we rebuilt the transmission and a week later we are having the same problem. except this time the rear seal got so hot it blew the transmission core also. i have spent 1700.00 so far. no end in site and no help from ford.  view

With no prior warning, consumer's car emitted continuously large amount of white smoke from tail pipe. smoke smelled of burnt antifreeze. car idled roughly. it was noticed that coolant level was extremely low. when consumer attempted to drive car to dealership to be serviced, car overheated. it was observed that steam was also coming out of anterior of radiator near the cap. car was stopped immediately and towed to dealer the next day. informed by dealership it was blown head gasket. talked to toyota in torrance ca, was informed that car was not part of recall or extended service warranty, and therefore will not offer any assistance in repair. consumer has friend with the same year car that had the same thing happen. consumer's car was manufactured nov 94, the month following the end of special policy adjustment that covered 1990-early1995 4runner. car was repaired at independant mechanic for $2600. mechanic was then working on another 4runner with blown head gasket. consumer later found out another friend with 96 4runner also had blown head gasket. she was lucky that her car was covered by the 1996 through early 1997 4runner head gasket special service campaign. it seems like everyone with the 4runner has the same thing happen to. in fact, consumer does not know anyone with 4runner who doesn't have same problem. obviously whatever changes instituted was not sufficient since the gaskets continue to fail. toyota should just admit the problem and make it right to save its good name.  view

Vehicle options (toyota 4runner 2003 - sport package) indicates vehicle should have come with vanity mirrors in the sun visors. other sport models have these mirrors. my vehicle does not. toyota states that they are aware of the problem. offered a $10.00 american express gift check for my inconvenience. i declined, in preferance of a proper rememdy such as replacing the visors with factory components. also, rear brakes squeel every time it rains. fuel economy indicator does not accurately reflect actual mpg. error of 2-5 mpg per tank.  view

4wd low and high light illuminated / six times flashing every three minutes. while in reverse the car would shutter/bang. followed by the vehicle not engaging into drive.  view

Complained to servicing dealer about excessive noise. report was at 49,622 miles, both rear wheel bearings have failed. this component is not normally inspected or replaced in the ordinary schedule of manufacturer's recommended care. my web research shows quite a few reports of this same failure, indicating inadequate design or faulty components. average miles to failure seem to be around 50,000. increasingly, these cases will be showing up given the age and typical mileage of these cars. anyone who ignores the sound level increase is liable to experience a complete failure on the road with definite safety implications. no one seems to be compiling statistics on this defect, except perhaps subaru. there are indications that subaru america is aware of the problem's frequency (a tsb on improved replacement method), but they have not regularly agreed to cover repair costs or alerted owners of the problem's existence. in my case, repair is scheduled six days from now. my complaint call to subaru america resulted in a promise to look into the matter and call me back with a response on what action the company would take. it is now 2+ days awaiting response. forester (and perhaps impresa) owners should be alerted to what is a very stealthy flaw. the manufacturer should be supplying good information and advice, as well as supporting their product.  view

The tires on my 2002 dodge ram 1500 sport model apparently cannot be balanced by the dodge dealers i have visited in the orlando area. the tires are goodyear p275/60r20. the truck vibrates and the steering wheel shakes at interstate speeds (65-75 mph). not only is this terribly annoying, but i believe it may be a dangerous defect. the truck only has 14k miles.  view

1999 dodge ram 1500 quad cab truck - when a bump or rough patch in the road is hit, the front end begins to shake violently. wheel hop occurs and the vehicle must be pulled off the road and stopped completely before the steering returns to normal - happens almost everytime on the same bumps or patches on the same roads. the problem is so bad the truck is basically undrivable and is a very dangerous concern - only 74,000 miles on the truck and have replaced most all the frontend parts as well as brake rotors, etc. still occurs. seems daimler chrysler has known of this issue for some time, but has done nothing to resolve the issue. i am aware of serveral wrecks due to this issue and there is even a website that address the issues apparently many ppl are having - http://www.dodgetrucksteeringproblems.com/ chrysler has done nothing to offer assistance and the dealer refuses to resolve the issues without havingto pay them allot of money and still it does not get resolved.  view
