Transmission is leaking fluid from the plugs in the transmission. please describe.  view

Unpredictable problem. occasionally, 5 to 15 seconds after i first start my 1999 mustang gt, the engine will rapidly increase in rpm and then return to normal. if the car is in drive or reverse and i do not have my foot firmly on the brake, the car will jump forward or backward. i notice the problem mostly when i first put the car in reverse. it may happen 3 or 4 times in one month and may not happen again for 2 or 3 months. if you do not have the brake applied firmly, i think the car could easily jump 5 feet before getting a foot on the brake. i currently have 29,000 miles on my car. i purchased it new in the middle of 1999. this has been a problem since the car was new. during a previous in warranty repair, i told the dealer about this problem and that sometimes it also had a rough idle. they could not reproduce either of the problems during testing. now the car has a sporadic cold idle problem which has gotten worse. i do not know if it is related. i would guess the "rapid rpm increase at idle problem" has occured between 25 and 50 times while i was driving the car. at first, i thought maybe i was bumping the gas pedal. after repeat occurences i started paying close attention. my foot never touched the gas pedal when the car jumped unpredictably. i think it is important to note that i am very happy with this car. for the most part, i am a very happy customer of ford motor co. however, this problem concerns me greatly from a point of safety becuase pedestrians could be walking in front of or behind the car when the problem occurs.  view

The following complaint pertains to speed control and steering control systems of 2000 daewoo nubira. speed control: (recurring, unpredictable). problem occurred while attempting to park. pulled into a parking space with foot on brake pedal, engine suddenly raced (as if id floored the accelerator) and car surged forward (foot still pressing brake). had to turn ignition off to stop car. happened again (same day) at a traffic signal. would have rear-ended vehicle in front of me if i had not allowed for distance of two car lengths between it/myself. my 62-year-old mother owns this vehicle. says she uses emergency hand brake when this happens, and initially complained of same problem over a year ago. dealer (hillside auto-mall, hillside, nj) said no problem was found! asked if problem could possibly be due to a manufacturing defect? dealer stated, thats an issue you will have to take up with the manufacturer. we just sell the cars!  view

I puchased my van on 2/24/02 with 55k on it from cavalier ford in chesapeake ,va. the van was taken back to cavalier ford in chesapeake, va. on 2/12/03 because of a popping sound coming from the front area when breaks are applied and sometimes while turning. the mechanic discovered severe cracking in sub frame where right strut rod attaches. the mechanic has never seen one do this and said i could lose my steering if it cracks all the way while i am driving. he said could be manufactuer defect. est. cost for repairs $3,000.00. i only have 65k on the van and havent even had it a year yet. there is no evidence of van being in a wreck. this is not coverd under my extended warrenty . has this been a problem with other windstars and what do you suggest that i can do? l.j. va. beach,virginia  view

Clutch pedal bracket cracked. failure of bracket caused loss of ability to change gears or restart vehicle.  view

In april 2003 my exterior driverside doorhandle broke off. in june2003, my exterior passanger side doorhandle broke off. both handles broke off in the same places. very weak plastic, dealer told me the car was old(1998). i have owned older cars and had no problems with the handles breaking off. i am not that strong i didn't rip it off.  view

I have a 1999 chevy blazer, and a 2000 gmc jimmy, which are both basically the same vehicles. the 99 blazer developed an oil leak from the oil lines at 33,000 miles, and the 2000 now has the same oil lines leaking at 41,000 miles. i have heard that this is a common problem with these vehicles, and engines have been ruined due to the oil lines. i feel that gm should offer to replace the obviously defective oil lines.  view

The odometer on my recently purchased 2002 buick century (from a buick dealer with 22,000 miles and still under warranty) appears to be off by approximately 4%. on a recent trip of 450 miles (a trip taken and measured many times in the past), my ending trip mileage registered as 467 miles (an overage of 17 miles). on the return trip, i used numerous interstate mileage markers to compare distances. for each 100 miles traveled, the odometer registers it as 104 miles. to me, this is an issue of the speedometer not being correct, plus more miles are registering than are actually being placed on the vehicle. this affects service recommendations and the resale value of the vehicle. the dealer offered absolutely no help. other than saying the mileage markers must be off - they suggested i use different size tires. (to my knowledge these are the original tires on the vehicle). is there no way to recalibrate the speedometer?  view

The vehicle had an oil leak which caused the vehicle to cut off while driving. it was later discovered that the oil cooler lines rubbed together and made a hole which caused the leak.  view

The cruise control was engaged, the driver had just touched the resume button when the motor made a wild revving and racing noise, and with that, all the gears were gone. it was as if the vehicle was in neutral. the vehicle was towed to the nearest ford dealer who couldn't see vehicle for at least a week. consumer considered this to be a transmission failure.  view

I have a 2000 slt jimmy which has been a pain. i've had lower ball joints replaced, upper ball joints replaced, major problems with the brakes, u joints replaced, hub and wheel bearing problems, altenator failure, a/c blower motor replaced, broken blend door which caused encoder motor and module failure, rear wiper moter replaced, back window lock replaced. too many things have gone wrong with this vehicle. gmc should consider some sort of recall because i've read many complaints regarding some of the same issues.  view

Intermittent stalling.  view

Drivetrain noise; ranging from clunk to metallic clank; problem has existed since new. 1-2 upshift causes clunk at driver side front. (4 wheel drive model) and clank iat differential. situations with very light throttle (1-2 shift) result at times with impact/clank (w/ very audible metallic sound);sufficient to "shudder" vehicle. shifting in 4w low (manufcturer instructions) also results in clank/shudder; not unlike being struck by a hammer. slowing down/relasing throttle to negotiate 90 deg. turns; throttle goes "dead" - no response - then responds abruply. on 2 occasions now-wet conditions-rear end (3.73 limited slip), this has resulted in rear end drifting. my concern is snow/ice conditions. i view this as a legitimate saftey issue. dealer has looked at this 3 times and found nothing wrong; claiming all functions are normal. the last time i had it serviced, their report noted that the symptoms could not duplicated; yet the odometer reading indicated less than .2 miles driven. rockenbach chevrolet in grayslake illinois. they suggested that i get a lawyer.  view

The steering wheel locked while driving on 6/29/2003. driver was able to avoid a collision. vehicle was taken to the dealer, who stated that problem was the rack and pinion. dealer put in a new rack and pinion.  view

Vehicle experienced the same defect with its cradle bolts as stated in recall 00 v 189 000, but this vehicle was not included in recall due to vin.  view

The upper intake manifold cracked and leaked antifreeze onto the engine which caused the engine to lock up.  view

The plastic harness (positioning clip) clip, used for securing straps fell off into consumers hand. the manuacturer replaced the part free of charge.  view

Evenflo ultara 1 premier car seat, model #2361t6p1, manufactured 05/18/1999. strap that connects the center shield to the bottom of the car seat became unattached from the metal bar that was holding the shield to the bottom of the carseat. ph  view

I have a nissan altima 2002. there are latches on the rear left and right seat but not in the middle seat - the safest one. why can't i put the car seat in the middle using the inner most latches from the left and right seat? it says in the manual and online not to, but with no reason why. it is obviously the easiest way to install a car seat and a lot more studier then the seat belt. please explain. is it that it hasn't been tested or is it known to be not safe? thank you. liza  view

On 5/7/03, i took my 1998 ford explorer to classic ford in smithfield nc., because i had been hearing a roaring noise when ever i turned to the left. i was told they needed to replace my rack & pinion. they will have to keep it a couple days to replace it. i feel that is very unusual for an auto with only 66,000 miles would have that problem with the steering.(incident date should be 5/7/2003)  view

While driving on the turnpike at approx 55-60 mph my accelerator became stuck. when i depressed the brakes the car did not go below 40 mph. i called 9-1-1 for assistance. this went on for approx 8 miles, i eventually shut the ignition off and the car rolled to a stop on the shoulder. the car is at the dealership and they can not find anything wrong with it and expect me to pay for the replacement of the brakes that were ruined as a result of the cars defective accelerator. the problem needs to be identified and fixed before the vehicle is released or someone may become seriously injured or killed.  view

This 2000 grand am was purchased in jan of 2003 and and has been in the shop twice in 5 months for faulty fuel injectors. there are six fuel injectors and the mechanic said there is no way of knowing if or when the others may go out. it cost over $500 for each repair. this sounds like a problem with this type of automobile. the mechanic also said that he had just worked on two other grand ams with the same problem. one was brought in twice for fuel injectors and one three times. i read another complaint on this web site addressing the same issue with the same make and year car.there should be a factory recall as it seems this is a widespread problem.  view

The consumer had taken the vehicle to the dealer for a regular oil maintenance and the dealer stated the vehicle needed front alignment. the dealer replaced the front struts. the vehicle had 3700 miles. noise had come from the dashboard, when the left door was closed, when the vehicle was driven over bumps, and when the door was closed. there was static in the radio due to looseness, and there was a rattle noise in the rear, near the exhaust, when closed. the hinges were repaied, due to a noise in the door.  view

The consumers vehicle rear ended another vehicle at 5 mph and both air bags deployed shattering the windshield. the police stated that the air bags should not have deployed because there was no damage to the front end of the vehicle.  view

A half an hour after parking the vehicle, it caught on fire. the fire inspector indicated the fire originated from the ignition/ steering wheel column area.  view

Consumer stated that without warning the hatchback exploded. dealer notified. vehicle was parked in the driveway. consumer believed it was a design flaw. the arms to open the window forced the glass outward up to 10 feet. if the glass goes, the arms are forced to open like two catapults. dealer refused to acknowledge the problem and correct it under warranty.  view

In october 2001 (at 67000 miles), coolant was leaking from the water pump on my 1997 2.5-liter v6 ford contour. water pump was replaced. on june 2002 (at 73000 miles), the water pump started leaking again. water pump was replaced again. on december 2002 (at 80000 miles), the same thing happened again, i.e. the pump was leaking. water pump was replaced. on april 2003 (at 85000 miles), the water pump again began to leak from around the same spot (per the service technician). water pump was replaced. with this latest occurrence the ford dealership technician (@ century ford in rockville, md) called ford hotline with the history of the problems. the hot line called back later and informed the technician that they had discovered that the fiber material from inside the radiator hose was shredding, with the end result being that the particles would flow into the water pump and ruin the seals, thus necessitating changing the water pump. no ford technical bulletin exists on defective radiator hose. at no time did dealership recommend that radiator hose be replaced because it was defective or because it looked worn out.  view

1998 plymouth voyager loses serpentine belt ,over heats and loses power steering whenever it rains. i had the belt tensioner replaced twice it has not helped now van is at another chrysler dealership, where they say it is the power steering pump and pulley. they are charging me $400.00 dollars to do this work and i believe this is a manufacturing defect that should be acknowledged and addressed.  view

The car will momentarily hesitate when attempting to accelerate from a stopped position. it is periodic and not consistent, therefore, hard to duplicate according to the dealer. i asked gm to e-mail some of their nationwide pontiac dealerships and ask for their input on this type of problem but they refused. this can be a very dangerous situation when entering moving traffic. so much for customer service. i will remember that when i purchase my next vehicle.  view

A cable and assembly that was used to hold the spare tire under the vehicle rusted through. this caused the spare tire to fall onto the ground while driving. ph  view

Vehicle experienced acceleration surges. the surging occurred at random times above 25 mph. the acceleration surge also occurred with the cruise control engaged. also the manual transmission would not shift into fourth gear at highway speeds. if a shift was missed, the transmission winded up but no power was transferred to the wheels. with the clutch engaged, the transmission could not be put into gear until the transmission winded down.  view

Fuel gauge had not given accurate reading for 5-6 months. used honda repair facility's suggestion of gas tank cleaning to eliminate that possibility for cause of start failure. within the same tank full of gas, car stalled and wouldn't restart. repair facility finally determined ecu and fuel pump to be the cause. seems this is a recurring issue with the vehicle, and only informed people search out forums like this to report the problem.  view

I own a 2000 chevrolet venture minivan. recently, my airbag light would go on and off while driving. i brought the minivan into my mechanic who today diagnosed a malfubction in the driver's side airbag pretentioner. what prompted me to write this complaint is that when the mechanic called to order a new part, the parts distributor told him that this is a very common problem on chevrolet ventures and that he sells many replacement pretentioner units for chevy ventures. as a defect in the airbag pretentioner could have fatal consequences in the event the airbag fails to deploy as a result of the defective pretentioner, i am requesting that the nhtsa investigate this issue and require chevorlet to reimburse me for the costs and expenses incurred in replacing the defective pretentioner.thank you for your consideration of this matter.  view

The consumer noticed the engine raced when a stop was made. consumer had to place the engine in neutral in order to stop the vehicle. the motor raced three to four rpm's when the consumer tried to stop. the computer didn't show a sign of failure.  view

I own a 1999 chevy sivlerado. on 12/27/02 i started my vehicle after leaving work and noticed that the abs light went on. after i got home and shut the truck off there was a noise coming from under the truck (sounded like an electric motor running). i drove the truck over to my local chevy dealership and one of the tech's listened to the truck and diagnosed it as the abs module. i told the service manager to call me with a quote for repair. he called about an hour later and said that it was the abs module, and it would cost around $1000 to repair. i declined repair as i was told that the brakes would function fine by just pulling the abs fuse (the abs wouldn't work, but the brakes would work fine). trying to negotiate with dealer and/or gm on repair cost. truck has 60000 miles, so they are saying "out of warranty". i said "stand behind your product!" saw these other instances of the same problem on this web site, so i thought i would add mine. looks like they have a problem with the abs on this vehicle and they are not taking care of it.  view

Complaint type involves a paint defect. i purchased a new 2001 mitsubishi mirage from patriot ford - mitsubishi in beckley, wv. i bought it in december 2000. the fourth day i had the car i brushed snow of the hood and paint came off with it. for the next five months paint came off mostly when it was washed. the dealership offered to pay for painting only part of the car. this was not acceptable. the dealership refused to pay for a total paint job although i don't know why a brand new car should need any part of it painted but i countinued to get the run around for another four months at which a long awaited mitsubishi represented insected the car and offered to pay 30% of a total paint job. i refused still not being able to understand why a new car would need a paint job. i took it to auto body shops in the area and was told a few times it was road debrie causing the paint to flake off. the shops told me they worked with patriot ford. i had a lawyer for a period of time who could not make any headway with the mitusubishi manufacturer. after much frustration i fanally dropped the matter but have recently decided to continue the fight. any help you can give me with the matter would be greatly appreciated.  view

I have a 1998 volvo s70 t5. the anti-lock brake controller board is malfunctioning causing the anti-lock brake "red" indicator light to come on at various "random" times while driving the car. when this happens, the brake pedal depresses on its own and many noises are heard around the area of the front left tire and the anti-lock brakes stop working while the light is on. this happens very frequently (at least once every time i drive the car).  view

1996 ford windstar switches are bad in doors causing door ajar light to stay on. when driving, stays on until you are going approx. 15-18 miles per hour. this is a hazard especially at night. due to the glare on the windows inside the van. i have went to a dealer and they said it would be 400.00 dollars to fix it. i don't have 400.00. i was also visiting family in indiana this last week and an old friend of mine has the exact van and problem. i currently live in colorado and thought that it was odd that someone who lives in indiana has the same problem that i have with our windstar. so, then i decided to file a complaint. and maybe something will be done.  view

There is a pulsation in the steering wheel when brakes are applied, due to brake/rotor failure. these part are continuously replaced. the dealership indicated that due to the size of the tire a thinner brake pad was used to compensate.  view

Lower intake was just fixed 01/01/2002. lower intake has to be replaced again 05/05/2003. lower intake has been changed to be stronger. the lower intake was faulty. i should not be made to pay for it again. the first charge was $1032 and i am again being charged $1306. i should not have to pay again for the same problem. i have exceed the limited warranty of one year or 12,000 miles. the lower intake is designed to last almost the life of the car. the car is a 99 pont grand am. i purchased it in june 2000. i had the car 2 years and 8 months and i am still making payments on it. this is unfair that i should have to pay for repairs again. also i understand that recalls were done for the steering and body structure. i never got any notices about any recalls. if i had not gone to your web site, i would not have known. how do i get my car repaired without charge? also the alternator was replaced 07/02/2002 for $456 and the alternator had to be replaced again 03/17/03 which i was not charged for. i purchased a car with a lot of defects and should not have to pay. i will get rid of this car.  view

This is the second time that engine stalled while driving and this time i was almost rear ended. all functions suddenly locked up. i had no functionality in steering, brakes, and acceleration. i had no control of the car and car slowly died. after a few minutes i was able to restart car with no problems. this could be a life threatening problem if on a highway the next time this happens. ** ivoq entry posted after 12-12-02 cut over to artemis***763065  view
