Vehicles with extremely bright headlights cause a danger to other drivers. i am not talking about drivers with their high beams on, i'm referring to regular headlights that are unusually bright. i was almost in an accident on the 405 freeway last night because a driver behind me with bright headlights blinded me and i veered into the next lane because we were on a curve and i couldn't see well enough to stay in my lane. i have heard many of my friends compalin about cars with bright headlights almost causing accidents for them because the light can be blinding, similar to a flash bulb on a camera going off in your face in a dark room. these bright lights should not be legal for regular driving use, they should be used only in the same conditions that high beams are used.  view

Igintion coil pack failed causing a sudden decease in power as one the cylinders was not firing. this problem is extremely common and requires all four coils to be replaced. vw is only replacing the failed coil because of a shortage of parts. there should be a recall where all four coils are replaced as the sudden loss of power may cause accidents and fatalities.  view

I own a 2002 chevrolet trailblazer ltz. when driving at around 54 mph and 1600 rpm's the suv produces a vibration that can be heard and felt throught out the vechicle. to the best of my knowledge neither gm or the dealerships knows what is causing the vibration. it is with out a doubt something that should not be happening. i also know other people with the same suv having the same problem. does it do damage to my suv every time it happens? most importantly it happens at highway speed. i don't want something to go wrong at 54 mph. thank you. any questions please feel free to contact me. note i entered todays date below but it happens all the time and has been since i bought the suv brand new.  view

The first incident was on december 3, 2002 when my car engine ceased to function on the interstate at 70mph. there was no warning and the engine light did not come on. vehicle was towed to the dealership and the computer was replaced. on january 15, 2003, again on the interstate, the vehicle experienced the same problem. it ceased function and the engine light didn't come on. the vehicle was again towed and this time the problem has been diagnosed as a malfunction with fuel pump. the fuel pump and gas tank are scheduled to be replaced and pieces of metal were found in the gas tank.  view

Sever inner rust/rotted area in the rear passenger side trunk back seat, wheel housing. not visible rust to the naked eye, or no surface rust. caused water to leak in and cause extensive damage to seat, carpet, padding. leaked to under front passenger seat,shorting out sensor and deployed air bag without impact. g.m. is unhelpful. they responded with "even if it was a factory defect i had exceeded my 6 year/100,000 mile warranty. i cannot see how this could fall to the consumers responsibility! i am hopeful that you may have an answer that could be of some help. i also am dumbfounded that an air bag will go off with out impact. everything i have researched on them reports only on crashes, even on the g.m.web page for air bags there is nothing that says shorting out of a sensor due to water or anything else can deploy them. so i ask what if a child spilled a drink and it went under the seat? what if my wife or i purchased a gallon of milk or water, sat it on the back floor and it leaked? should there not be a sensor or something to tell the air bag not to deploy due to the fact the auto wasn't in an accident? thank you, brian and lisa heuring.  view

A month after my vehicle was purchased we had a number of problems, the rear differential was cracked, leaking windshield washer fluid and now the steering isn't working in the manner it should. the car is all over the road and while stopping yesterday the steering wheel completely rolled to the left. then while on a gravel road the wheel completely spun around. i called another dealership today and they said there was a recall on the steering, but the mitsubishi headquarters said there aren't any recalls.  view

100 miles west of phoenix and traveling at 65 mph, i suddenly lost all steering assist. if i had been on a curve, i would have gone off the road or into oncoming traffic. 29,000 lbs of motorhome can be handled without power steering if you have plenty of muscle and are ready for it. i also discovered that the radiator cooling fans were inoperative. coach net had me towed to a shop in phoenix where it was discovered that the hydraulic pump splines that engage the power take-off were disintegrated. i called gillig and they said that a few of their chassis had been the victim of a complacent employee who failed to apply spline grease at the time of assembly. they were nice enough to send a new power take-off and hydraulic pump at no charge [about $500 worth]. it cost me about $500 labor. it worries me about how many more vehicles with gillig chassis that have the same situation are out there with the potential of suddenly becoming an out of control rolling missile. mine is a 1997 model and had 32,000 miles on it when it happened. you gillig chassis owners out there might want have this checked out. if you have any questions, feel free to email me at: pashir@thegateway.net paul langton '97 cc intrigue  view

Turned on igniion key of 1998 buick park avenue to start and heard loud bang and then noticed grey smoke at rear of hood area. turned off key, got out and closed door, proceeded to house to call 911 and got kitchen fire extinguisher. i went back to burning car, opened hood, observed fire at side of engine next to firewall. i used fire extinguisher to get most of fire out. there was some fire under engine on ground which the extinguisher did not get out. the extinguisher was now empty so i went back to house and got baking soda from kitchen and threw it under engine to extenguish the fire under the engine. fire department came but i had fire out by then.  view

The ebcm (electronic brake control module) has failed on my 1999 gmc sierra. it has less than 40000 miles on it, and from information obtained online, this appears to be quite a commonplace event on these vehicles. the abs light comes on, and the pump will run even with the ignition key removed.  view

Engine stalled on my 2002 ford escape while driving on the interstate at 55 mph. was able to coast to the shoulder in bumper-to-bumper rush hour traffic. re-started right away. dealer (two rivers ford in nashville) advises they've never heard of this problem, despite many complaints to nhtsa and technical bulletins #15434, 15589, 0286.  view

The anti-lock brake system light illuminated when the brake pedal was pressed, and the pedal traveled all the way to the floor. the consumer was told the abs pump was constantly in motion, affecting the control of braking.  view

After the vehicle was started, the consumer was unable to shift the gear from park to drive.  view

The vehicle stalled without warning. the dealer replaced the distributor cap, spark plug wires and rotor, however the problem recurred.  view

While at high speed vehicle vibrates and pulls to the right. consumer took to the dealer and they replaced the driveshaft. problem was still present. ts the wheels and tires were also changed but to no avail.  view

I'm having the following electrical issues with my rodeo. intermitently, the cruise light button turns on, then the cruise light indicator turns on, then the check transmission light turns on. at that same time all the indicators are on the truck hesitates as if the transmission is slipping. this most frequently occurs after coming to a complete stop, however has occured while crusing. thus far the technicians have replaced  view

Recently, i noticed that the two rear interior plastic panels that cover the metal and outer top seat belt mounts (or pivot points) in the interior rear of the vehicle have an approximately ¼ inch slot worn into them from the seatbelts; its apparent cause, the pulling of the seatbelts in an outward motion to place over the shoulder of the passenger sitting in the seat. i brought it to my dealer¿¿s attention on 01/23/03 and was informed that there is no fix for the problem and that new panels would only wear out again due to constant seat belt usage and that only a re-designed or modified part would permanently correct the problem. since this was beyond the dealer¿¿s capability, they recommended that i contact gm customer assistance and notify them of the problem and attempt to resolve the issue with them. this is currently being done. since my vehicle was one of the first on the lot, i believe that this complaint might also be one of the first of its type. i am particularly concerned because my children are primarily the rear seat passengers and i now question the seatbelt strength, particularly knowing that the edges of the belts have been constantly rubbing and abrading the hard plastic trim panels that surround them. to date, this vehicle has not been in any accidents and i am calling this problem to your attention just for informational purposes and to insure a followup by gm.  view

The driver's seat belt latch mechanism broke into two pieces and became unattached from the mechanism belt loop anchor. this auto has not been in an accident and received light to moderate use. it has 118k miles.  view

At just about any speed, when steering to left or right, steering jerks. so far, hasn't caused an accident but have had a few close calls. will not let my wife drive this vehicle in fear of her safety and our son! problem started intermittently about 2 years ago and has progressively gotten worse. can't count the number of failures. it happens at least 2-3 times a day while driving. after talking with many other owners, i realized my situation was not unique.  view

The interior light did not come on. the drivers side window failed intermittently. the dash lights flickered. occasionally the horn would fail. metal fragment cut through the power steering and caused noise when steering. the door handle didn't open smoothly. the dealer replaced front struts and rear shock absorbers. also, replaced leaking engine valve cover gasket, engine belt and tensioner. .  view

Steering locked up on 2002 honda civic two days in a row. on a right turn, the steering would not turn back (straighten out) and kept going right. the second incident resulted in an accident which totaled the honda.  view

While parked in a garage the consumer attempted to use the keyless entry remote but it did not unlock the vehicle. the consumer then tried to start the vehicle but it would not start. the consumer then opened the trunk and at that time the consumer smelled a strong burning odor. the consuer then noticed that the black box, immediately above the batter, burned. teh vehicle also leaked oil.  view

Purchased a new ranger xlt extended cab dec. 20 2002. while trying diagnose why the door ajar system was malfunctioning, i noticed that the driver side door was not straight. it has since become a problem while driving on the highway and taking right hand turns, where air can be heard through the door opening. the service manager where i purchased the vehicle stated that it was just that there is a different sound when turning because the air travels a different path across the truck body. he has not tested the issue on the highway because we were pressed for time. the service manager and auto body manager did agree that the door was not straight along the front and top edges and agreed to perform a repair and install a new door from the factory. the problem there was that i was told that a door installed as a "repair" would be painted at the dealership and would not have the quality of a factory installed door. the service manager also stated that he could not guarantee that a "new" door would fit any better. i admire him for his honesty to the end. i paid for a new vehicle, not a sub-standard repaired vehicle, especially since the problem existed off the factory floor. this isn't a warranty repair, but a defect. i am outraged.  view

After a previous day of uneventful use,i noticed on the morning of 10/1/02,that after starting, the truck would only shift into neutral and reverse.when an attempt was made to shift into drive,the vehicle froze.the truck was then towed to a transmission shop,and the problem was diagnosed.the 4l60e transmission had to be rebuilt as well as a torque converter,which was literaly torn apart.the tranmission specialist asked me how many miles were on my truck,and when i told him, (only 56,000) he explained that this problem should not have occured in a vehicle with such relatively low mileage.in fact after examining the defective parts more closely,he concluded that the failure occured as a result of the faulty way in which these parts were machined.the total cost for all of this was around $1,284.00.attempts were made to contact gm,but they were unwilling to accept responsability.i understood,as i explained to their service dept.that my 36,000 mile warrenty was up,however since this failure was as a result of a flaw in manufacturing,and not normal wear and tear i was within my rights to ask gm to accept responsability and reimburse my expenses(at least partly).the service department's form letter response was "i"m sorry we can"t help you".my reason for writing all of this is in the hopes that more angry consumers like me will come out of the woodwork and create a voice loud enough that gm will no longer be able to ignore.b.w.  view

On my way back from mt rushmore on july4 on i90 e to st paul, mn , something happened resulting in steering pull, tire overheating and eventually the tire layers came off hitting the fenders & bumpers causing some damage..i suspect the problem may be related with tire stem..fortunately there were no major casualties...i still feel horrified by the incident..something must be done to avoid such incidents..  view

Transmission slips, 38kmiles on my 2000 blazer, out of warranty. took it to the dealer, the dealer's mechanic said he has replaced a valve on the transmission of four 2000 blazers so far this year. i will make number five - quoted cost of $850. service center will not cover under warranty. read several reports about transmission issues similar to mine on 2000 blazers and s-10s. why no recall? if this is a known problem, why am i not coverred under extended warranty?!!  view

2002 camaro, car started to shake when brakes were applied at abt 8,000 miles. took into dealer to be checked out. was told rotors needed to be turned. for this to happen with such low miles must be defective. should have been given new rotors. has there been a recall?  view

The vehicle was taken to the dealer to have the ignition switch recall (#02v120000) performed. the technician advised the consumer that the dealer would charge labor because it was necessary to remove and reinstall the vehicle security system because it was not a manufacturer installed system.  view

Fuel/throttle control: i experienced a "sudden unintended acceleration" incident in july of 2002. i was in the process of head in parking and was moving very slowly while applying brakes the vehicle accelerated over curbing into a wall. the vehicle stopped, the engine stopped running, and air bags did not deploy. the vehicle is a 2001 nissan pathfinder with less than 8,000 miles on it. i have read of other incidents like this for this vehicle and am now afraid to drive it. no other incident has occured. i have never experience this situation before and i originally thought that i stepped on the acceletator the same time as the brake. now i believe i did not step on the accelerator but for some reason the vehicle malfunctioned. i have not taken this into the dealer because i have no confidence in their ability to diagnose the problem as it appears to be very intermittent. this is a serious problem that is potentially lethal and cannot be detected by normal maintenance and happens so quickly that the driver cannot react to avoid a serious collision. there were no injuries (this time) but vehicle damage was $500.  view

The blend door actuator which allows warm air to be directed to the windshield to defrost it broke at a very bad time. my windshield was fogged up on the interstate and when i put the climate control on defrost, all i got was cold air. not a very safe set of conditions. i have since read that over 40 of my lincoln car club members have had the same part break. some report as many as 3 failures. the lincoln dealership quotes the repair at approx. $700.00. ts  view

This is about my 1993 mercury villager. after viewing your site, it appears that the problem with my car is widespread. the bolts that connect the manifold to the engine block sheared off. i had the repair done in may of 1998 and also contacted the lincoln mercury division of ford. i even sent them two of the sheared bolts. since that time, the bolts on the front manifold have sheared. i never even received an acknowledgement from ford in response to my letter. the engine now is very noisy and i brought it in to my muffler mechanic about 3 weeks ago and he noted the sheared bolts on the front of the manifold. i would like to know whether nhtsa is doing anything about this or whether you are aware of any success with ford in getting this problem taken care of. it is potentially dangerous.  view

Front suspension makes a crunching noise when expanded or contracted. dealer stated that they "think" it might be the strut mounts. very costly estimate to try something that might work. i've seen other complaints regarding this and wanted to register mine along with the others.  view

I have a 1998 and 1999 cadillac catera. both cars have goodyear eagle rs-a tires. the 1999 had to have all four tires replaced with less than 25,000 miles. goodyear paid for the front two because the camber specs given to cadillac were incorrect. the back two were blamed on the delaer switching tires from another car. the 1998 had both its front tires replaced under the same program but the rear two seemed all right. they were until last night when one of the rear tires went flat. and the other rear tire could go flat at any time. all eight tires have exhibited the same excessive wear on the inside edge of the tread. the steel belts show and all rubber is gone on the edge. the remainder of the tire has tread comparable to your expectations for the milage of the car. something is wrong either the camber or the tire itself. the flat last night occurred at 75 mph on i-12. a potentially dangerous situation.  view

Local fireman installed the carseat on several occasions due to the carseat's inability to remain installed properly. on the last occasion a fireman installed it, the top of the carseat snapped in half.  view

I have a 1998 grand caravan 3.3 ltr with only 57,xxx miles. i just took it to a mechanic to check out an antifreeze smell, and he informed me that the head gasket is leaking, and to talk to chrysler asap. he also informed me that he has been seeing this problem quite frequently.  view

Told by mechanic that power train snapped and car drove out of control. was unable to put the car in park or neutral. the car only stopped when mechanic turned the ignition key off.  view

While driving the accelerator pedal had gotten stuck and the vehicle revved up to a speed of 110 mph. ts the vehicle was hard to stop while driving at 10 mph(had to throw in park), and after the incident, the consumer was unable to start the vehicle. scc  view
