Transmission; failure of the transmission while driving, the vehicle transmission went out.  view

While starting up the vehicle there was a puff of smoke coming from the steering column. the vehicle restart on it own the dealership is aware of the problem. nlm  view

A rotten egg smell comes through the a/c vents when accelerating to merge or when going up a steel hill that requires accelerating. when driving on long trip this problem has caused the consumer to suffer from severe headaches.  view

In november of 2001 i left for a trip in my mercury, about halfway to my destination, the intake manifold of my car failed, the entire contents of my coolant system evacuated in less than one minute. i thought i had ruptured a hose, upon closer inspection; it appeared to me that a hose had blown close to the engine block in a place that i could not see well. a mechanic at the dealership informed me the next day that the intake manifold was plastic and that it had cracked. but luckily for me he would help me out, he happened to have a spare manifold that he had taken off of another car like mine. apparently, someone had blown a head gasket in their 97 grand marquis and the owners were convinced that it was the intake manifold. so the mechanic replaced their manifold and kept their old one that was still good. the mechanic was willing to sell me the manifold and replace the broken one on my car for about half the price it was going to cost me to have the dealership replace it. the dealer would have billed me nearly $600.00, so i told him to perform the repairs. he told me that they had some problems with the plastic intakes and had redesigned them. the one he placed on my car was supposedly of the new design. later in a momentary lapse of judgment i told him to dispose of the original, which i believe was cracked in the same place as the one in the pictures found at this website http://public.fotki.com/trsi/ford_intake_recall/ last night as i was running some errands around town, my car started to overheat. i thought nothing of it i figured i might have a hole in a heater hose. since i recently started using the heater in the car. the car ran hot all the way home no matter what i did or how much air i tried to pass through the radiator. in the path to or from the radiator from the heater core. the heater hoses go through the intake manifold. the plastic fitting that accepts the heater hose has a hairline crack running its entire length. dt  view

I purchased my lincoln navigator in 1998. the problem i have is that the airbags filled up while driving and cause the vehicle to to swerve. the suspension stays in the up position. i have had this problem corrected once and it cost me $500.00 dollars. when the airbags fill with air the truck is raised in the rear to a very unsafe driving height that shifts most of the weight of the truck onto the front wheels. the first time i encountered this problem was at 55000 miles and now at 96500 the problem has occured again. i'm sure the dealer will not repair my $50,000.00 vehicle without charge, but i'm still headed for the dealership next week to get the problem corrected because it is to unsafe to drive in the condition it is in now. dt  view

Consumer states that while driving at 20 mph and no warning the rear inside (driver side rear speaker) of the vehicle caught on fire and the consumer was force to pull over. the vehicle was totaled. sc.  view

Seat belts on conversion van are too short, seat belt will not hold child seat, seat belts were put in by u.s. conversion, dealer said seat belt are wrong size  view

Model# 02-8700ebz/mfr date 8/6/99 consumer noticed the overhead shield arm has separated while leaving the child unrestrained.  view

Child is able to losen the harness clip and exit out of the childseat. delership is aware of the problem.  view

The radiator fan relay is inoperative, a recall has been issued on this vehicle make and model however this vehicle is not include due to vin.  view

Regarding the driver seat belt when opening the car door, the motor belt runs but the seat belt stays in place instead of retracting to allow me in the car seat. once the lap belt is attached, the panel light flashes constantly that the seatbelt is not working. the retractor only goes as far as the upper left corner of the door. the motor runs but it will not allow the retractor to complete its full ascending and descending position. when i took the car to american ford in glendive, mt - i was told the part and labor would be in excess of $300. this is outrageous, especially when it is a law to wear a seatbelt, but how do you do that when the part is defective. luckily, there is still the lap seatbelt. regarding the cruise control - we have been at speeds of 70-75 mph and then the cruise control sticks. once you turn off the cruise control - the car will continue to go speeds of 55-60 mph without having to press on the gas pedal. we have had this happen several times (4 times coming down a mountain pass - not a pretty picture). we no longer use the cruise control. dt  view

Please look into this. just search mazda 626 transmission from any search engine. you will find hundreds of complaints. mazda needs to do the right thing. they sold a defective product. they know it. and, they will not take responsibility for their defective transmissions. dt  view

Water pump failed at 70555 miles, thermostat at 58000 miles, aux cooling fan at 80000, and now radiator at 92k miles. all cooling system components have failed within 16 months of each other and needs to be brought to your attention for investigation. dt  view

I was given this car, instead of purchasing it. when i received this car with the air bag light flashing. it continues to blink 10 times, then repeats itself. like a code. the r. front bumber was dented in but, the airbag did not deploy. dt  view

While driving, head gasket blew out without warning. please describe.  view

The vehicle accelerated suddenly and unexpectantly. after inspection of the vehicle by the dealer it was discovered that the guide housing air cleaner broke off and lodged behind the accelerator. nlm  view

Consumer states that the vehicle is not equiped with a safety device which prevents the door form opening if something is in it's path and a a result a passenger was injured, the safety device works when the door is closing but not while it is opening. nlm  view

While parked, with the key out of the ignition, slightly bumped the shifter and knocked it out of the 'park' position. vehicle rolled backward and torn the front passenger door against wall. ref ie03013  view

This is the 5th time that the car has shut off while driving various speeds, it has also been fixed by the dealership once already. problem is the vehicle shuts off at any speed and steering wheel locks. luckily no accidents to date. my pregnant wife and my 3yr old girl went off of the road yesterday. i want this vehicle gone now. it is not safe for my family nor yours. dt  view

Nhtsa recall 02v070000 ignition switch; martin cadillac company, inc., los angeles, ca; vehicle has had recall performed twice with the problem of the ignition switch failing, reoccuring. the owner is taking the vehicle back in for a third time to get ignition switch repaired, for a third time. the dealership is reluctant of repairing recall item a third time, which is frustrating the consumer. please describe details  view

While backing vehicle up and turning, the steering column locked. the vehicle had to be towed to the dealership which then told him that the failure was due to a steering actuator. please describe details  view

Consumer states that while driving at any speed and no warning the rubber grip on the brake pedal came off causing the consumer not to have a grip on the brakes and there foot will slip off the brake pedal and this can result in extend stopping distance. dealer notified  view

Consumer state while traveling notice engine running rough and fuel smell around the engine vehicle was service by dealer. technician notice that the o rings had harding around the injectors and that was causing the fuel leak. please provide further information.  view

When attempting to change tire on the right front with the jack, the jack collapsed, failing hitting the ground damaging the front right rotor, etc. please describe details  view

This vehicle is driven by my teenage son and daughter. in teaching them about the vehicle, i stressed that it is important to follow the manufacturers instructions carefully in the event of a flat tire. jack placement can be important for safely changing a tire and preventing damage to the vehicle. when my daughter did have a flat, neither she nor adult friends were able to change the tire using the jack placement diagrams provided in the manual and sewn next to the jack itself. the jack would only lift the car an inch or so when placed on the axle as shown. i talked to the dealer and they said that the diagrams were incorect and that the jack must be placed under the leaf springs. when i contacted the manfacturer, they said that the dealer was wrong and the diagrams were correct. when i sent them a picture of the jack fully extended and of the height this would lift the axle ( which was insufficient to lift the tire off the ground) and requested a corrected diagram to place in the vehicle, they would not respond. my contention is that changing a flat tire is such a rare ocurrance for a teenager or anybody else, they can not remember what is the proper jacking method without a proper diagram to look at. in my daughters original flat they attempted dangerous methods to raise the vehicle when following the diagrams did not work. i am just asking for a corrected page for the manual and a corrected diagram for the jack area. i tried to work with them without contacting the nhtsa and received no answer. i think it is a safety issue and should be addressed. dt  view

The brake pedal goes to the floor. it has been almost 3 months trying to get fixed. the first dealer replaced the master cylinder twice and bled air to try to repair. the second dealer performed a brake inspection. they found a lot of air in the left rear line and also bled the abs system. i also had them check the steering because the air bag light came on when i turned the steerring wheel and steering was noisey, like a groaning sound. they reported the clock spring clicking when the steering wheel was turned causing the air bag light to come on - and there is a moan or a honk noise when turning which would take new p/s hoses to repair. one week later the pedal was once again going to the floor and the abs still coming on. the dealer said they would order a pump. which took 2 weeks to get in. when i brought it in they kept it a few days then called to say it needed the abs hydraulic package at a cost of $2,000+. they recommended i call chrysler customer service to see if they could assist with the costs. chrysler customer service said it was a mechanical part that could go out at any time therefore my cost since the van is no longer under warranty (low mileage doesn't matter). i called the dealer and haven't heard back in two days to see what they could reccommend/ i looked on the internet and found this to be a problem with the dodge cravan so i wanted to file this complaint. nlm  view

While driving consumer slammed on brakes to avoid a collision. brakes locked up and car slid approximately 15-20 feet down a hill. vehicle then collided in the rear with an suv. both the driver and passenger air bags did not deploy. ts  view

Well, well, well. just yesterday i filed this very same complaint to you. this morning my husband was on the phone w/one of your people who said there was no investigation into this problem at the present time. however, it's inconceivable to me that you have as many complaints as you do of a failed rack and pinion on 1999 ford taurus, and here we are getting the breaking news today the gm just recalled thousands of vehicles for a failed lower pinion!!!! don't you look at trends with other domestic vehicles, like years, like defects???? this failure is obviously a trend in the '99 taurus! how sad that 15 crashes had to occur in the gm vehicles that were most probably linked to their failure. how fortunate that '99 taurus owners have not experienced the same, at least not that we yet know of. wouldn't you like to be responsible for saving us from accidents, possibly injuries, and possibly deaths? please issue an investigation! also, you technician told my husband on the phone that if we were to have our rack and pinion replaced, as four separate ford mechanics have advised. that we should save our receipts and if a recall was issued at a later date we could be reimbursed. however, once again, on your website i researched and read that the manufacturer has no legal responsibility to reimburse us for work already performed. get your stories straight! i await your response with baded breath. thank you very much. dt  view

When driving on bumpy roads or in wet conditions abs brakes ingage unnecesserally causing increased vehicle stopping distance. this has happened on three occasions scarying the hell out of me. on approaching a t-junction in wet conditions, i applied the brakes in normal fashion and a loud juddering noise was heard. brake pedal went soft, vehicle lurched fwd and finally stopped in the middle of the intersection. luckily no traffic was coming otherwise a serious accident could have occurred. i have disconnected the abs since as the vehicle is uncontrollable in these situations. dt  view

The problem is that the bike overheats beyond red line & loss of coolant occures when the bike is operated b/t 15& 25 mph for a period of 5 min. or more in heavy traffic or other reason. the loss of coolant occurs at the front of bike which means the wheel will likely pass thru which is unsafe. also it is potentially damaging to the engine. have discussed the problem with my servicing dealer and they state that honda doesn't admit the problem exists.the apparent cause of the problem is that the cooling fans are designed to go off at 15 mph regardless of engine temp. & the bike is not moving fast enough to cool by natural air flow. the problem is big enough that a class action suit is being started. thank you for any help you can bring forth. gordon dt  view

Was having a slow loss of coolant with no visible leakage. now have a damaged timing cover/gasket ($1,200.00 repair estimate from a ford dealer) probably due to engine overheating. nlm  view

While consumer was merging from one lane to another. driver turned steering wheel and it locked up. consumer had vehicle towed to dealership. dealership indicated that the power steering pulley assembly had broken completely off of the vehicle. ts  view

Consumer called complaining about having problems with the cruise control cable. dealer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was fine and that recall was fixed and now five months after the vehicle has the engine and brake light is on the panel. ts  view

Rear brakes lock up/front brakes fail to hold under light loads, causing 2 accidents.  view

Looks like odi #563553. car suddenly shut down in traffic - both instances. able to restart once for 20-30 seconds, then starter won't crank. all instruments flash at time of failure then turn off, including gear shift indicator, but hazard flashers work. after towing to dealer everything is fine, and dealer is unable to duplicate the problem. dealer won't fix what they can't observe. we believe suddenly losing power in traffic (with no brake lights showing) is a potentially deadly situation, i.e. freeway and mountain driving. i wonder if this could be a malfunction in the programmable pk3 key system - shuts down while car is in motion? nlm  view

My escape was still new when i first experienced a total stall. i was on a downhill exit ramp from the interstate making a left hand turn onto a very busy one way street through an even busier intersection. i coasted at about 30-35 mph down to make my turn and realized that i had no steering or power at all. i had to fight to make the left turn and get to the curb. the experience left me shaking in shock and fear for quite some time. i had no trouble restarting it after i regained my composure. i took it to the initial point of sale and was told they had not heard of any problems. they "could not duplicate the problem". i have had three additional stalls, a different dealer replaced throttle, air intake. another stall. since purchasing this vehicle the cd player has been worked on twice (the dash had to be replaced because the service tech scratched it considerably), the passenger front window rolls up out of the track and the passenger front door would not unlock. the door had to be taken apart to fix the lock assembly consequently the interior door was replaced because it had to be torn off to get to the lock. cruise control works intermittently, the rear wiper doesn't work correctly, the transmission shifts hard, the front end makes noises when turned, not to mention a rattle in the back that will drive you crazy and a musty smell. as if this weren't enough, this morning it began running rough, backfired and the engine light came on and stayed on. i made it home, thankfully and had it towed to the dealer...again i am without my car! my husband works for ford in louisville, ky and we are trying to be loyal, but this is too much! we have had trouble with different cars in the past, but i am afraid of this vehicle. i have a 16 yr. old son about to get his license. it has been hard for me as an experienced driver to handle these situations, but i am terrified that it could happen to him. dt  view

The air bag warning light comes on intermittently. according to the information given to me by a local chyrsler dealer, this problem is typically caused by a faulty clock spring, and the driver's side air bag will not deploy when the warning light is on. the clock spring was replaced once under warranty on june 6, 1997, at 7922 miles. my complaint at that time was a crunching sound that came from the area of the steering column, when the steering wheel was turned in either direction.  view

Consumer states cruise control comes on and goes at certain speeds and will not set accurately. dealer checked speed control, but could not duplicate problem. consumer states safety recall 02s33 relating to the trailer tow connector / sealer cannot be performed due to lack of parts at dealership.  view

The exhaust manifold cracked causing fumes to enter the car. also the manifold supports the exhaust system which could fall off if crack would break completely. there must be an engineering design defect because the part has been redesigned. i also was told the used junk yard parts were cracked so i couldn't buy a used manifold. not only the cost of the manifold but the safety issues with a failed manifold have me very concerned. nlm  view

Engine stalled twice in 3 days, once while i was slowing to make a turn and a second time when i was just coasting without steping on the gas pedal. i was able to restart the engine okay right afterwards. i have taken the car to the dealer who said there was tsb for this problem. the fix was to reprogram the computer. if this is the case, why don't they do a recall and reprogram all of the tributes if this is such a wide spread problem? i think this a very dangerous situation to have your car stall while you are turning/stopping/coasting. if this does not fix the problem, i will file another report with you. nlm  view

The tires are very weak and are not very "durable." from the experience i've had, i don't feel safe with the tires and wheels on my car. every time i'm driving somewhere and encounter everyday road conditions, i'm scared to find a flat, popped tire; or blowout. i've had the exterior black lining fixed 2 times and i'm not happy it is happening again! the rear windshield weather strip is separating. the lower body mold is comiing off the body around the entire vehicle. a suspension cover part doesn't fit, has been to dave cross service dept. where car spent 4 days and said to be repaired, i got my car back and it was worse than when it went there. whoever has replaced the front bumper is a complete moron! it isn't lined up with the proper things! the driver side is lower than the passenger side. the car sounds like it is going to fall apart on a perfect road! a lot of money has been put into this vehicle and it's very upsetting when it is taken to get fixed, pay for that, get it back, it's still not right, take it back again, pay, recieve rude customer service, then it's a half-a** job! there's so many things to comment about, but those are the top subjects with my car. hopefully, i will be taken seriously for once. thank you for your time, it is appreciated. dt  view

Transmission started slipping. took it to dealer who couldn't look at it for 2 days. drove across the street to have another shop run it on their computer. after turning car back on, it would not shift into any gear or move. had to have it towed to another shop. when they took the transmission pan off found broken chunks of metal. had to have a complete transmission rebuild to the cost of $2600. always kept our dodge products to 190,000 miles with no major problems. after bought this card heard ford taurus often has tranny problems. won't buy another ford. nlm  view

Turn signals failed while taking car for service for the service engine soon light. drivers side front window also failed at this time. occasionally, headlights won't operate on bright. dealer has replaced window motor once, multi-function switch twice, and hazard switch twice. i still only have turn signals about 10 percent of the time. drivers side window will not open. the steering has also locked up on one occasion. at that time , the horn also started blowing repeatedly. dt  view

The tires are very weak and are not very "durable." from the experience i've had, i don't feel safe with the tires and wheels on my car. every time i'm driving somewhere and encounter everyday road conditions, i'm scared to find a flat, popped tire; or blowout. i've had the exterior black lining fixed 2 times and i'm not happy it is happening again! the rear windshield weather strip is separating. the lower body mold is comiing off the body around the entire vehicle. a suspension cover part doesn't fit, has been to dave cross service dept. where car spent 4 days and said to be repaired, i got my car back and it was worse than when it went there. whoever has replaced the front bumper is a complete moron! it isn't lined up with the proper things! the driver side is lower than the passenger side. the car sounds like it is going to fall apart on a perfect road! a lot of money has been put into this vehicle and it's very upsetting when it is taken to get fixed, pay for that, get it back, it's still not right, take it back again, pay, recieve rude customer service, then it's a half-a** job! there's so many things to comment about, but those are the top subjects with my car. hopefully, i will be taken seriously for once. thank you for your time, it is appreciated. dt  view

Same as previously recorded issue, however, this time the replaced part (alternator) fails after one day of operation. vehicle broke down again, while approaching traffic light. all lights went out, gauges were not responding, radio shut off etc. again, possible failure reported in warranty period, however, dealer and manufacturer refuse to repair. 11/12/2002 repair appears to have not been working. will never buy fomoco product again. contemplating contacting attorney and resolve situation with fomoco. dt  view

I noticed the sidwall seperating from the tread on the inside of my tire while i was washing my car and took it to a tire dealer who replaced my tire. the tire(s) only have 8858 miles on them and not sure how long it was like that. the seperation was about 4 inches long . my other 3 tires have crackes arounds the tread and side wall as did the tire that had the seperation, but because the side wall had yet to seperate the tire dealer would not replace the other three. nlm  view

Although i have only listed this as 1 instance of failure simply because this poorly designed (dangerous) solution finally cost me getting into an accident. this abs problem has caused me to loose sleep at night since owning this vehicle because of the various times it has failed me! it shouldn't take an einstein to figure out there's something wrong with a brake system that fails when you really need it to work! not only does it fail the brakes, but since the power steering is used to (hydroboost) power the brake system, when the abs unit dumps the fluid to release the brake pressure, you also loose steering ability! i don't know how many people have been killed by this inadequate design. i guess i should count myself lucky that i'm even able to write this, but this system is plainly inadequate and flawed at the design layer. either someone requires this to be corrected or everyone that drives a vehicle with this type of solution better triple their life insurance and quadruple their liability insurance and attend church services daily in hopes that they survive the experience!!!!!!!!!! oh, maybe i've touched on something there. do you think the insurance companies mind the prospect of having everyone having to increase their insurance to prepare for the results? dt  view

At speeds of 5-20 in slow traffic or slow mountain roads it over heats, loses fluid reported to honda not sure whether honda wrote down information since they claim it is not over heating. with a closed system i should not have to refill with antifreeze solution, since buy the motorcycle i've had to fill it twice. the first 1 pint and two weeks ago 1/2 pint. the first time was last on a light ride it over heated on me, i was with a group driving slow to see lights, i don't know how long it was in the red before i noticed it. dt  view

While driving vehicle on 9/13/02 at 65mph, there was a total failure in the electrical system for a split second. i disregarded it thinking that it was my imagination. however, the very next day the entire electrical system on the car was dead making the car inoperative. cause: disintegration of negative battery cable terminal end which caused the negative cable to disconnect from electrical system. i have researched this problem with other toyota owners and found that this is a common problem. failure of electrical system is a safety related function in that it completely disables the vehicle. nlm  view
