Vehicle caught on fire after vehicle heated up, consumer pulled over, and turned off vehicle, but it caught on fire. had not contacted dealer.  view

I have been having a problem with my safety belt harness for several months now. i feel this is a safety hazard. when i start to latch my seat belt on the drivers side it will twist and i have to get out of the car and help it retracked. sometimes it won't retrack properly and i have to wear it as is. when the belt isn't like it should be and if i apply my brakes to suddenly stop it won't catch like a seat belt is supposed to. i made an appointment on 12/18/2001 to have this problem fix and the dealership said it was checked and was found to be in normal operation. my car did not do this until a couple of months ago. i know this is not normal and i feel it is a major safety hazzard. i am a faithful seatbelt wearer and i feel very uncomfortable wearing this one. i understand that your company doesn't get in the affairs of the customer and the dealer; however this isn't the first time my car hasn't been worked on due to them not finding anything. i strongly feel that this isn't the way all ford vehicles are structured. if that were true i would have had trouble with it a year ago not one year and 6 months later. i do not wish to cause problems for the dealership i am concerned with my safety when i drive. the passenager side seat belt is fine. thank you for your time in reviewing my case. audrey caldwell.  view

I didn't bring the vehicle to the dealership because they told me it was out of warranty. figures...it went out of warranty in may 2001. i don't think that a vehicle should need new ball joints at 28,916 miles. it is my understanding that the ball joints are being replaced on other gm jimmy's that are older than mine. i aslo, included the emergency brake which i was told was frozen in place. this emergency/parking brake was not used. how would it be frozen in place????  view

At low speeds when applying brakes, steering wheel would lock up. dealer has inspected vehicle and changed rack and pinion. however, problem was not corrected. dealer put old parts back on vehicle.  view

Accelerator pedal intermittently sticks from a stop position or when coasting at a low speed. dealer was not notified at this time. dealer repaired parts under warranty.  view

I was driving approximately 40 miles per hour when the engine stalled, losing power steering, brakes, and clutch. could not restart, so the dealership picked me up. dealership stated the clip on the clutch had broken. this problem has only happened that one time, however on several other occasions the vehicle's idling has gone crazy and jumped and the vehicle acted as if it were going to cut off. this lasted several minutes and subsided. i was four months pregnant when this occurred and was almost hit by several vehicles because i had not been able to get the vehicle completely off the road. i am now driving around with a six week old child. i bought this vehicle because i thought it would be a "safe" vehicle for my son. i would like to know that it is!  view

Due to the location of cup holders spillage from cups get into gear shift. dealer has been notified. the consumer stated that due to design and location of the cup holder any spill of liquids gets into the gear shift area causing the gear shift to get hard and also, hard to remove key from ignition when the transmission was in park. engine leaks oil due to rocker arm cover failure.  view

Severe pulsation in steering column when applying the brakes, especially on the front driver side. front pads and rotors were replaced per bulletin. 10,000 miles later, the same vibration occurs in the steering column when braking. i suspect the pads and rotors are worn again. plan to return the car to the dealership for repair. do not feel comfortable commuting on the interstate with this car because brakes may fail completely.  view

After repeated attempts to get the transmission checked it finally failed. every previous attempt resulted in no problems diagnosed. it was always a sensor or a connector. the problem with the o/d light was brought to the attention of the dealer and everytime the car came back in two to three days the light would come back on. the problems started in the summer of 2001 and the service was in august. now the transmission is gone and needs to be replaced after being diagnosed o.k.. in 3 1/2 months a perfectly good transmission goes bad?  view

Vehicle was in the park gear and idling when it rolled in reverse with a child restrained in a child safety seat before crashing through a fence, and being stopped by a pile of wood. dealership has not examined vehicle.  view

While traveling up side of a mountain 25 to 30 mph and pulling a trailer, nylon bushing running from transmission to oil cooler melted, resulting in a loss of transmission fluid. dealership made repairs to vehicle at consumer's expense. dealership informed consumer vehicle was not affected by any recall. the consumer stated that dealer said exhaust system caused extra heat, but the main heat source comes from the inside and not from the outside because of the transmission friction.  view

Rear view window takes an unusual amount of time to defrost. other widows and mirrors defrost in a reasonable amount of time. dealer has yet to be contacted. please provide further details.  view

Driver's side headlight cover fell off. dealer replaced cover. checked passenger's side and noticed it was loose. consumer states that this could cause light failure or a fire.  view

On date of accident, i was driving on 12 mile approaching intersection of orchard lake road. i'm coming to a complete stop, going about 1-2 mph, when the engine surged. my foot was on the brake, and i could hear and feel my engine accelerating, and to avoid rear ending the car in front of me, i turned the wheel and went up the curb, and finally stopped when i hit an interstate sign. the event took place in about five seconds. on the monday following the accident, i took my truck to jerome duncan ford and explained what happened. i also informed them that on 2 ocassions my car would not start. the diagnostic showed that my pcm need to be replaced. it could not bring up any missing codes for the surge of my engine. the pcm controls the engine and is the drive train. i don't believe for one second the defective pcm isn't the cause of the accident. i never relased my foot from the brake! my car is still at the dealer, and i refuse to have the pcm changed till a field engineer looks into it. i told them i don't want the truck back till they find what caused the surge, and that the car is unsafe to drive. the service drive manager said that this monday (2/25/02) he would take my truck out and wait for it to surge on him. they are not taking this as a serious matter! they told me i could start some "legal" action paperwork (where there will be and investigation, and a ford field engineer will look into it) and i told them that i was willing to start paperwork. they explained it could take up to 4 months, i told them that is not an issue, my truck is unsafe to drive. a detail i forgot to mention was the service manager started to say that they already changed my pcm, then told me they didn't. so called him 2 minutes after our conversation and told him that i did not want it changed until someone from ford looked at it. he said "oh you don't want it changed, i was just going to have it changed." i said do not change it!  view

A leak developed in power steering rack which caused vehicle to shake when turning end eventually to lose all power assisted steering.  view

Brake pad 'thing' fell off-causing the car to swerl and i almost lost my life-brake pad unsafe & i am terrified of getting back in to the car that everyone wants to glue back on!  view

There was no prior warning of a blowout head gasket. vehicle was taken to dealership for a regular maontenance check, and mechanic indicated that head gasket had to be replaced in order for vehicle to run.  view

While changing a flat tire, the scissor/type jack collapsed and the vehicle dropped. the consumer was injured. the dealer ordered a new jack. the vehicle fell on the consumer's arm.  view

While putting vehicle into four wheel drive it would not lock into place, and vehicle would not be on four wheel drive even though light inside turned on, showing four wheel drive on. contacted dealer and the dealer is not willing to do anything.  view

Consumer took gear shift lever out of the "park" gear and engaged drive gear, vehicle accelerated suddenly, hitting two parked cars, one moving truck, and was stopped by crashing into a garage. there were no injuries to report from this incident. no determination has been made as to the cause of this problem.  view

The airbag indicator has turned on and will not go out. no failure codes are repoted. the horn will not work and the cruise control will not work. the windshield wipers go on by themselves occasionally. the left door lock will unlock and lock quickly when the key is turned to open the door.  view

I've submitted two problems, which are from two entirely separate incidents. the had gasket failure occurred last year but i did not know about this web site for reporting problems. our mechanic has told us that these two problems are extremely frequent with all ford 3.8 engines and for all years of mfg. ford was contact with head gasket problem and refused to provide any assistance even though it was only 2000 miles past warranty, and they are covering it past that mileage in canada.  view

Transmission slides out of gear at a stop. depressing the gas with expection of car movment results in high rpms and after a 1-2 second delay, a sudden harsh forward movement. this delay caused us to be lurch and be rear ended by our subsequent slamming.  view

Pee020/ was traveling about 60mph on highway and felt vibration through steering column. consumer was able to pull over, and had control of vehicle. driver's side front tire tread had separated from vehicle. firestone, transport one, 1120 36-2419, this is a motor carrier number for this truck.  view

When consumer went to step on the gas pedal the vehicle would not accelerate. consumer states the gas pedal sticks requiring extra pressure which results in sudden accleration when the pedal breaks free.  view

Evenflo model # 207182p2, dom 04-jun-1996; child managed to pull cover of child seat inside out and exposed padding. child then placed some padding in mouth and started gagging. padding has not type of covering to prevent child from pulling on it.  view

While driving 60 mph vehicle hit a pole on driver's side and rolled over. driver's air bag did not depoly. dealer / manufacturer were not notified at this time. feel free to provide any further information.  view

Left rear tire suddenly failed while i was towing a 3000 lb trailer on a major freeway. the rear of the toyota started to sway which in turn caused the trailer to start to sway. the toyota swung back and forth violently and nearly rolled over. damage was done to both the trailer and the toyota as the two vehicles jack knifed and struck each other. i was able to come to a stop on a rough shoulder of the road which did additional damage. i believe the goodyear tires were not sufficiently heavy duty for 4 wheeling on primitive roads and trailer towing. the 4runner came with a towing package which also was inadequate. the sock absorbers are too soft for stable towing. adjustable stiffer shocks should be provided on such a vehicle as well as some kind of vehicle leveling system to provide more stable towing. Transmission failures this may be a safety hazard. if the transmission failure occurs while driving the vehicle, the vehicle sometimes slows down abruptly, especially when the driver is accelerating. for example, when trying to pass someone, the transmission will suddenly leave the engine revving high, but the car won t actually accelerate and actually slows down, sometimes very noticeably. this can cause someone to rear end you if they re coming up from behind you not expecting you to suddenly come to halt for no apparent reason.  view

Transmission second gear skips loosing power.note this motorcycle is never been abused.i was getting into the highway when transmission starts skipping and almost got hit by a car due to loos of power.i know of other friend of mine with same model same year motorcycle with the same problem.if you need more information please send me and email.thanks four your interest.  view

Original transmission was replaced under warranty at 45k due to unexplained noisees as a sign of possible internal failure. this replacement transmission had to be replaced also due to the same problem. at 50k miles the current transmission has bad gear change problems and will fail at some time. drivetrain also has excessive amounts of slop in it and could potetially fail while the vehicle is in motion causing serious risk of injury  view

The check engine light came on after the car was ideling very rough. o'rielly chevrolet said that the #5 injector was sticking, they flushed the system & replaced the fuel filter for $207.73. two weeks later on 2-25-02 the check engine light came on again. i took to o'rielly chev. & they said it was the #5 & # 3 injector had to be replaced. the first time the #5 injector was sticking the service rep. said it was because i was using cheap gas. i changed the type of gas to chevron & after taking another trip, i had the same symptoms & after taking the car to o'rielly chev. the #5 & #3 injectors had to be replaced. the total costs of repairs for both times is $717.88. i don't recall, other than the level of octane, reading in my owner's manuel anything about using a better type of gas, but chevrolet agrees with the service manager at o'rielly's that this is the cause of the problems with the injectors in my car. i would appreciate any help that you can provide. i feel that i shouldn't have major repair problems with a vehicle when it has was only 1,181 miles out of warranty. i have a friend that owns a 2000 malibu ls & she has also experienced problems with the #5 injector, but at least her car is still under warranty. thank you in advance for your attention to this issue.  view

Dome light would come on for no reason, the noise for the turn signal would come on without the turn signal being on (my turn signals worked perfectly fine)and the handle you use to adjust the seat backs broke off on both front seats. also, the latch on the inside on the vehicle which you pull to release the hood broke. wondering if anyone else had problems with this vehicle.  view

Steering problem would occur when brakes were applied. vehicle taken to dealer, and informed consumer of front brake rotor failure.. dealer would not correct problem under warranty, consumer took vehicle to to a repair facility where the rotors and pads were replaced because of extensive damage. consumer is seeking reimbursement.  view

Investigation ea-01-005; hinges on doors are loosening, consumer has to lift to close and lock door, problem will progress, causing door to come completely off, dealer was contacted and is aware of problem.. consumer spoke to the manfacturer and was informed that if the vehicle was over 50,000 miles it was consumer's responsibility.  view

Headlights lens will continously get dirty from the inside, also will get moist. consumer has problems at night when turning on headlights. contacted dealer, and dealer wanted to replace headlight assembly.  view
