Engine manifold studs and bolts had snapped. was driving & and manifold was making noise, exhaust sound like it was leaking. leak was coming from manifold which is attached to engine. manifold had separated and was causing problems. had taken to dealership in 1999, and had the studs replaced. currently, back at the dealership for the same type of problem. left front axle boots have vibration due to cv boots failure. exhaust manifold studs are broken again and replaced.  view

Three of tires tread separated while driving. however, tire stayed inflated. consumer states he felt a bump while driving, consumer states he continued home when he got out of vehicle he noticed that the outer skins were stripped off to reveal the metal.  view

While driving about 70 mph transmission lost power and consumer managed to drive off the road. then, towed vehicle to a shop, where they could not determine what had caused the problem. contacted manufacturer. please provide more infomation.  view

While driving could detect burning smell of anti-freeze, and found a leak into engine. consumer took vehicle to mechanic. who indicated that consumer had received a recall notice for engine head gasket that had already been repaired.also timing belt was leaking. please provide more information.  view

Brake line ruptured due to it chafing against the frame, this caused vehicle to crash into another vehicle, an independent inspector verified that the steel braided brake lines were rubbing on the frame and wore through causing breake fluid loss, there were no injuries in accident.  view

Left brake rotor had separated from hub while driving. had applied brakes and vehicle had pulled severely to right. had taken vehicle to dealership. brakes w ere inspected by mechanic, and found out they had broken. rotors could not be repaired. brake system was repaired but not at dealer, the rotors were replaced under recall campaign 92c34 at 43000 miles, the corrosion protected rotors failed at 105000 miles, the consumer believes that the rotors would not have failed if they were solid (1 piece) rotors. nlm  view

Serpentine belt came off the pulley causing over heating and loss of power steering causing loss of control, third time in three year.  view

Have had the car in the shop 4 differant occasions for clicking or knocking noise from front and rear end when turning the wheel.....still not fixed.  view

Firestone, steel tex, original equipment, 17ooo miles mounted on a 1999, ford motor home. while traveling at about 40-50 mph front right tire had tread separation. few months afterwards, other three tires experienced tread separation. tire size p225/75r-16 dot vd1l1xd158 consumer stated in the past he has experienced 2 tire separations that were replaced, due to the separations of the tire, the motorehome has experienced property damage.  view

Vehicle on slight slope when 5 yr old shifted gear lever to neutral. vehicle began to move forward and hit a pedestrian , pinning her against another vehicle. owner's manual indicated that vehicle could not be shifted unless foot is on brakes. took vheicle to dealership, and mechanic informed owner that brake light must have be broken in order for lever to be shifted. owner declared brake lights working just fine.  view

Received recall notice 00v421002. contacted dealer and took vehicle in. was kept for over 3 weeks. vehicle had an extra 480 miles on in and 1/4 fuel tank. had checked mileage after filling fuel tank. mechanic refused to repair as according to recall. failed to clean and put special sealant on ball joints for prevention of moisture. been in contact with manufacturer.  view

Both rear power windows cannot be operated by rear switches or by front driver's side switches. dealer notified, and infomed consumer that vehicle was out of its warranty and not covered under a recall. any repairs would be at consumer cost. feel free to provide us with any further information concerning this matter.  view

Consumer's husband was traveling about 8mph ,turning inside of a parking lot where his wife was standing waiting for him to pick her up, husband went to apply brakes, vehicle jumped forward and pinned her up against another vehicle, and crushing her left foot severely. dealership was aware of problem. abs antilock braking system was defective.  view

In oct 1999, head gasket was replaced at 35900 miles. went back 2 weeks later complaining of oil still leaking on my driveway. they tightened one valve cover bolt which was loose. in february, 2000, with 39500 miles, complaining that the vehicle still has an oil leak. they used an engine dye to try to detect source of leak. they test drove the car, let it run for a few hours, and could not detect any leaks. so i lived with slight oil leaks, which recently got worse, but did not notice immediately because my driveway is loaded with spots. while driving on the expressway, the head gasket blew. construction barriers were lined up alongside the expressway. it was difficult to pull off to the side because of these barriers. this presented a real hazard. i feel it is important for a recall of dodge stratus 1995-1998 head gaskets to be implemented. (as well as other models which use this same type of head gasket.) head gaskets should be good for at least the typical life of a car. that is a very costly item. it already has happened twice, and i only have 50000 miles on my car. i know i will never buy another dodge in my lifetime. my dealer has given me horrible service on numerous occasions. it was never a pleasure to get my car serviced.  view

P215/55r16, dot unknown, original equipment on a 2001, audi, a6 with 9000 miles. while driving 65 mph left rear tire had a blowout. sidewall on both sides of tire was gone. no accident.  view

A prart is missing from rear door security lock. there is no lever to engage locks, only a hole in the steal. service department at the dealer said to use a key to manipulate the lock which would damage the key or internal parts.  view

While driving about 25mph vehicle was rearended and knocked into vehicle in front of it. neither driver's side nor passenger's side airbags deployed. dealer has not seen vehicle.  view

When turning on air conditioner it will not ventilate cool air just like a regular fan, and when heater is turn on hot, air will not come out from bottom, it will come out through top into consumer's face.  view

Driver's side rear door hinge broke away from door frame. looked like driver's door hinnge was coming off also, and door was about to fall off. took to body shop, and they were welding hinge back on. please provide further information.  view

The truck is a 3 door ext. cab. the driver & passenger doors both cracked near the bottom of the windows towards the back of the door. i believe this is a safety hazard as the stress fracture would probably give on impact & cause the door to crush in on this area and the window to break, both on the occupant. ford did replace both doors under warranty approximantely 20 months ago-the replacement doors also cracked in the same area. ford must be aware of this problem - 1999 models have different doors. this is a rampant problem on 1997 & 1998 ford trucks. this would be safety concern upon an impact.  view

While traveling at approximately 70 mph in his 1996 plymouth, breeze right rear firestone si asr blackwall tire, size: p195/70sr14, dot: unknown experienced a blowout in sidewall. there were two places on outer sidewall where tire had blowenout. there were approximately 26,000 miles on this tire, and it was not original equipment on vehicle. please provide any additional information/attachments.  view

While traveling at approximately 40 mph drivers side non-powered sliding door came open while there were 5 children in vehicle. dealership examined sliding door and could not determine a reason for problem. also, on june 5 2001, non-powered passenger side sliding door came open while vehicle was in motion with 2 children in the vehicle. dealership again could not determine a reason for defect, and were unwilling to assist consumer. also, consumer noted that child safety locking mechanisms were active on each occasion that this problem occurred. please provide any additional information/attachments.  view

The drivers seat of our ford taurus is broken. the seat back moves forward and backward independent of the seat adjustment track. this movement requires the constant adjustment of the drivers seat belt which is very distracting to the driver which increases the chance of an accident. i am also concerned that the seat may not hold up in an accident. the dealer i took this to benna ford in superior wi refused to replace the seat. i have also contacted ford corporate and they have also refused to replace the seat. the seat should be covered under fords 3 year, 36,000 mile warranty as the problem was shown to the dealer before the 36,000 mile mark.  view

On 12/2000 a tread separation was encountered and you were informed at that time. on 9/27/01 i survived a complete tire failure. the sidewall was ripped in a straight line from the bead to the tread. the goodyear dealer said it was a tread separation and informed me that the other front tire (right), was in danger of doing the same thing. both tires were replaced. When trying to pass, or even when accelerating, the transmission will completely disengage! the problem is that you never know when it's going to happen. this has almost caused me to crash in two cases while passing another vehichle. when this occurs it's as if you intentionally put the transmission in neutral. there is no slippage, just complete disengagement. i have even had it completely shift into neutral while operating in cruise control on the interstate. believe me it's really scary when your enginge completely tachs out at this speed. it's a wonder the engine didn't blow before i tapped the brake pedal. the transmission has been completely rebuilt twice and repaired once. costs to me so far in repairing this transmission have been $3000 and counting for the last time. the repairs were made at a ford dealer and an independent. again, the transmission is doing the same thing after 13,000 miles. what's bad is that ford technicians, nor their technical service department, can correct the problem. their diagnostic equipment shows no problem. i have to take it on the road to show the mechanic how it's operating which takes a pretty good test drive. again their only suggestion is another complete rebuild since they are clueless. unfortunatley, this time, it is one thousnand miles over their warranty period. this is extremely dangerous in my opinion. if i'm haveing this trouble, then surely others are experiencing the same. thanks for your time, and if you need further information please call or contact me. i have all my records.  view

Engine head gasket developed a crack which allowed oil to leak from engine. consumer had this repaired in 1998, and in may of 2001 was having same problem with vehicle. head gasket has developed another crack and was leaking oil. if the oils spills on the hot engine, there could be fire. changing head gasket every 2-3 years is a serious problem.  view

Also the windows go down by themselves. this has happen twice within the past 2 weeks. they go down when the car is off and the ignition key is out. they replaced the switch for the front windows. a week later the same thing happened to the back windows. we took the car in for service and all they tell us is that they cannot reproduce the problem. therefore they feel that there is nothing wrong. i have had brake failure 4 times on this car. they have changed the master cylinder 2 x's. are refusing to do anything else at this time. they say the car is okay.  view

Rotors had to be turned three times after every 7000 - 7500 miles due to heat build up in rotors when slowing down from highway speeds. this heat build up was causing rotors to warp, and vibration in vehicle. dealership at first replaced brake pads in an effort to reduce heat build up. however, since then, had only turned rotors. please provide any additional information/attachments.  view

Moveable side view mirrors slip with shutting doors and with travel at highway speed (>45 mph). i (owner) attempted to repair initial slippage by tightening screws. mirrors soon began slipping again, and vehicle was past 36,000 mile warranty. screw threads are now stripped, mirrors won't maintain position. dealer recommends purchasing two new mirror assemblies (exact same style) for several hundred dollars. manufacturer rejected request to pay for installation of replacement mirrors from alternate source. note: i previously owned a 1987 dodge van which suffered the same problem, although not quite as severely. the problem is clearly due to a long-term failure of chrysler to address an obviously defective design. absence of working side view mirrors represents a significant safety hazard, although in this case no accident has yet resulted.  view

When i first bought,my2000 escort zx2,i noticed that there was a very excessive vibration felt while the car is running. it can be felt everywhere in the car.front seats,back seats,everywhere. you can even see the steering wheel in a vibrating motion,and can see it in the outside door mirror.you can stand outside the car,and the front bumper and body panels are shaking also.i have had the car into the dealer seversl times and they keep telling me that this vibration is a characteristic of the escort zx2.so they don't want to do anything about it. i guess they think if they keep telling me the same things every time i take the car in, that i will give up,and trade the car in on something else,then they would be off the hook. but they are wrong,because other then the bad vibration, my wife and i love the car. i just want it fixed. what do you think. thanks.  view

Steel brake / fuel line assembly failure. heavily rotted due to positioning on frame rail, trapps dirt/ moisture or could just be infirior quality matterials. manufacturer said they had not documented any problems. the dealer said it wasn't common but knew the repair labor and parts price off top of head. other lines in other locations on vehicle appeared ok. i have other vehicle much older than this one and original lines are in good shape. iv'e never seen brake line failure, which occours suddenly resulting in brake failure, in a vehile only 8 years old. deterioration is extensive. would it really drive the cost of a new vehicle up that much not to mandate stainless steel brake lines as many manufacturers are providing stainless exhaust systems? thank you for this web site frank markut  view

While driving at 30 mph vehicle lost steering control. vehicle was taken to a independent repair shop, and informed that problem was due to a broken crankshaft pulley. manufacturer was notified ,and informed consumer that vehicle was out of its warranty and not cover under a recall. feel free to provide any further details on this matter.  view

Experienced loss of heat in passenger compartment. found coolant level to be low. added coolant on several occasiions. problem did not go away. problem increased to point where engine overheat indicator lit. took vehicle to mechanic where problem was suspected to be loss of coolant but could not be definitively pinpointed. as a precaution the water pump, thermostat, hoses, and coolant was replaced along with two freeze plugs which were seen to be weeping. after a short while the problem reappeared and i took the vehicle to a ford dealership in my neighborhood. they diagnosed the problem to be a blown head gasket which was internally causing the coolant to enter the engine and be consumed. i authorized repairs but was informed that the problem was not covered under the terms of my warranty as the vehicle was now too old. I've noticed on all 94-99 neon's that the drivers side window has sratches on the same spot of the window and that they all look identical to each othere. you can tell that it is the window trim that is causing it. and once again it is on all neon's that's i've seen. 4 of my friends all have them and they all have it ecxept for the 2001 neon. the other 3 and mine have it and jours are 94-99 neons.  view

Loss of motor oil in engine, no sign of leakages. vehicle taken to dealer, and was unable to locate problem. vehicle taken to a independent repair shop, and informed that problem was due to a rod failure. seeking nhtsa to look into this matter. please feel free to provide us with any further information concerning this matter .  view

Left rear brake light socket had a short for second time. whole socket has to be replaced. worked for 2 weeks, and it shorted out again. part cost $60 each time. dealer informed consumer that there was not a recall, however they had been replacing a lot of these parts.  view

Consumer was traveling on highway and car seat belt came a loose. strap was attatched to child's neck. more she pulled the strap the tighter it got. child was okay.  view

While traveling at highway speeds on dry road conditions consumers orginal equipment driver's side rear road king tires size 24575r16 had a blowout that caused vehicle to go into a ditch . once blownout tire was replaced with spare, passenger's side rear tire began to shake. then, blewout sixty-two miles later. consumer still has tires. please provide further details.  view
