Rear cam bearings are bad on all 1999 models and midway through 2000 models on all twin cam 88 harleys. harley will not replace the bearing unless it goes bad. if it fails while riding the motorcyle it could lock up the rear wheel causing the operator to lose control and be injured or killed. i believe harley davidson should replace the rear cam bearings before they fail and avoid an accident before it happens. this is a very dangerous situation and it should be remedied immediately. view

About march 1995 the spoiler began to loosen. on 3/24/98 tiny's body shop to repair the loose spoiler. they told me they could not fix it because there was nothing to screw the spoiler into. on 5/30/2000 i got an appraisal from viking oldsmobile in rochester mn (507-288-1811) for repair of the spoiler. they told me they had already replaced half a dozen spoilers on this same make of car. they gave me a preliminary estimate of $541.74 but stated that it may be more if rust was involved. they sent the estimate and report to nissan. the nissan company refused to pay for the new spoilelr. i believe this is a recall situation. my spoiler is now completely loose on both ends. only the middle connection is intact. it could cause a major accident and even death if this should fly off on the road. i know most other nissan maximas must be having this same problem and nissan should stand behind it. i do not intend to trade the car in on a new one. i wish to drive it longer and then give it to my son. i am afraid of an accident as things stand now. the car is beginning to rust at the spoiler connections and i am afraid of a serious accident. there are no other cars with spoilers that i can see that have this problem. 0101 view

I had to have two tires replaced in may 2000. one was damaged from being involved in an accident. the other had gone flat and, when inspected for repair, was found to be crumbling and in such poor condition that it also had to be replaced. in september 2000 i noticed cracking around the exterior walls and tire tread, and in some spots in the tread itself, on the last two original tires. i contacted firestone regarding the recall and was told to bring the vehicle in to have the tires checked. i brought the truck into firestone and was told that there was no problem with the tires and that there was nothing they could or would do since the tires were not included in the recall. i contacted nhtsa and was told that the recall might be expanded to include these tires in the future. i experienced loss of tire pressure on a weekly basis and had to put air into the tires at least once a week (the tires were filled to 30 lbs. psi, not at the manufacturer's recommended pressure). since we felt that there was a serious safety issue with the tires, we have replaced them. if you have any interest in examining them, we still have them in our possession. the explorer is used primarily under moderate speed and short distance conditions, for example, driving to the store. these tires were not subjected to any conditions that could be an explanation for this cracking. the tires were not subjected to abnormal high-speed conditions, extreme temperatures or any other abuse. although we no longer have these tires on our truck, it is our opinion that these tires should also be included in the recall before there are any more injuries or deaths due to accidents that could have been avoided. The tire experienced tread separation resulting in a large blister on the tread face. i discovered the problem ass repairing a flat tire on another wheel of my daughter's car. this failure was not the only one we have had with the firestone namebrand. another daughter had similar failures on brand new tires purchased from firestone on three separate occassions over a 4 month period. these failures were on 16" wheels on a 1997 dodge avenger. the incidents took place before the well publicized current recall involving the size that fits the ford explorer. she has since sold that vehicle so i am not able to ad specifics concerning those incidents. but, due to the number of failures we had involving family members and the severity of the safety consequences involving different size tires that may not currently be in the recall, i feel it essential to call this to your attention. i do have digital pictures of this most recent failure i could provide if you have a specific address i could e-mail them to. of course, i have possession of the tire and would be happy to provide it to you for analysis if it would aid your investigation into these failures. we do not have the original receipt for the tires which may be 18 months old (estimated). we were told when we contacted a local dealer that since we lacked that, there was nothing they could do. there are 3 other firestone affinity tires on that car. i'm sure you can appreciate the insecurity i have with those remaining on her car though replacement is not an inexpensive consideration. i will write firestone at their website (assuming they have one) after i hear from you. i am contacting you because of the serious safety consequences of this problem that has not been isolated for us. i would like to think something can be done before people loose lives using a product they have misplaced confidence in. an alternative number to reach me during the day is my cell phone (225)907-5911. i am retired so these numbers should. view

When driving this fall i found that when using the vent i got nothing but hot air, then the automatic setting on the heat/air temperature control would not regulate properly. it would go to extremes to 85+ degrees, then drop off and blow until it was down to 60 and then back up to 85 continuously. i went according to the owner's manual, which stated i needed to have it put on the computer and checked at the dealer. after they kept my car 2 x as long as promised and charging me $100 to call the engineers at ford itself, they told me it was the blend door in the heater plenum. this door is apparently made of plastic and breaks. in my case it worked for a little while, but very slowly, and was in the process of breaking. it currently does not work and is stuck in the air conditioning side. i get no heat and can't defrost my windows. i live in wisconsin and we are expecting freezing rain today, not to mention snow later this week. the dealer has told me that the engineer they talked to said this has happened before. if it is a bad design, but because it is not officially a defective part on their list, they could not fix it without charging me another $700 on top of the $100 already spent to diagnose the problem. i have found on the internet that i am not the only one this happened to (see mightyautoparts.com, on the line with larry hammer - exploring the limits of patience). the newly designed door is made of nylon that is stronger and less susceptible to breaking. when contacting ford customer 1st to let them know about my visit, they said an advisor would be assigned to me and would contact me the next day, that was 2 weeks ago. i feel i am being given the run-around. i am driving in an unsafe vehicle. ford will not take any responsibility for the bad design. i fully appreciate and accept that things wear out on vehicles and need to be replaced, but defective design shouldn't be at my expense, in dollars or safety. view

This vehicle has been in the taken back to the dealer 4 times in a month and a half. the car shakes at high speeds and at idle (dealer says unbelivable shake is normal). when vehicle is driven for long periods of time it starts to vibrate and hesitate at high speeds the car becomes very hard to drive in the steering wheel, the whole suspension of the car is not secure. the brakes on the car have also been fixed or checked 4 times - it is very hard to break. their is also a very hesitation in the engine when changing gears. it feels like there may be a transmission problem or an engine mount problem. the tires were replaced with used tires because manufacturer said that there was a flat spot on the tires. i was told that they were replacing the bad tires with new good tires (hoping that all the problems i was having was due to just the bad tires) they replaced them with used tires and didn't balance and align them (this is on the forth visit to the dealer). the problem is still there and getting worse.
