1994 GMC K15 User Comment / Complaint

June 13th, 200, was traveling eastbound on 202 freeway in mesa, az, at 1:15 pm when tread separated from tire. tread damaged muffler, rear qtr panel, tailgate, and bumper, then wrapped around wheel well. my daughter was a passenger in the vehicle. called aaa to change tire, then went and bought 4 new michelin tires, as this was the 2nd time this happened in the past 2 yrs. filed claim with firestone, claim #021657. was reimbursed for damages, tire shipment, and one new tire. intend to file claim for reimbursement of the other 3 new tires i bought, plus rental car reimbursement for the 4 days it needs to be in for repairs. repairs are scheduled for tuesday, aug. 29th, so if you want to assess damage prior to repairs, please contact me no later than monday, aug. 28th. still have spare atx tire. on june 29th (or 28th), 1998, i was traveling eastbound on mcdowell rd. east of higley rd. in mesa, az, around noon, when tread separated from tire. bent muffler into right rear tire, damaged rear qtr panel and bumper. filed claim with firestone. i am still looking for my paperwork for that claim. i was reimbursed for damages, shipment of tire, and prorated cost of old tire. i have photos of my vehicle for both of these claims, as these were required by firestone. once again, if you would like me to hold off on repairs, please advise by monday, aug. 28th. i feel that firestone has known about this problem for quite sometime, and feel very lucky that no serious injuries were inflicted as a result of these defective tires. feel free to contact me anytime.( dot number: vhdl1pb474 tire size: p23575-r15 )  view

I can't believe im seeing this in the news! they should have told us! i thought it was a unique incident so i just replaced the tire myself. i did mention it to a service rep at my dealer and he said it was my problem (before i knew about this irregular failures). i would like the tires replaced. i do not feel safe with the tires now. that day was a normal morning in miami and i was driving down the street when i was approaching the same bridge i do daily to get to work when suddenly i here a something hitting the back of the car. continuously. it acted as a loud bang. not like a flat. so i stopped and there it was, a blown tire. how upsetting!!! well i hope someone does something about this!( dot number: )  view

On june 12,2000 i was traveling home from dallas to pearland. the weather was clear no rain, cement road in good condition. my right front tire thread separated from the rim with no warning. both sidewalls were still intact on rim. the dealership stated the tires and rim where not covered under warranty. the firestone dealership was reluctant to replace the tire with no cost. eventually the manager could not find any reason to cause the tire to separate and replaced it still charging me for balance and valve stem. he refused to say it was a defective tire but listed unknown reason for failure. it is only because of previous extensive driving classes (police officer training) is why i did not have a wreck and was able to control my vehicle. on the news is a lot of reports of failures of these same tires. both ford and firestone refuse to exchange my tires for safe tires and i cannot afford to change out new tires on a new vehicle. i can go into better detail about this incident if you wish to contact me. do i have a legal course of action at this time? Was driving 65mph when vehicle started to lose power. was exiting freeway and vehicle started to slow down 2 more times. had taken to dealer 4 or 5 times. each time was diagnosed as throttle body problems & had it replaced. happened mostly when it was hot.  view

R/r tire blew out while driving on hwy 101 in monterey at 65mph( dot number: tire size: p235/75r15 )  view

Although i mentioned to my mechanic that it seemed "odd" that the tread hadn't worn down but beause of the separation the tires all had to be replaced.this was done before the recall therefore dot info is not available as the tires have been disposed of. also, it is unfortunate that the size of my tires is not included in the recall. i'm filing this report to add to data that this tire also was defective.( dot number: unknown tire size: p255/70r16 )  view

This is the second firestone fr410 tire we had that has had a tread separation within 4 months. i had to pay pro-rated on the first tire and i had to buy a new tire because we were on a return trip from ohio when the second tire blew. firestone will not replace since it is not on the recall list of tires. it seems odd to have 2 tires within 4 months with a tread separation.( dot number: tire size: 20570r15 )  view
