1984 OLDSMOBILE OMEGA User Comment / Complaint

Receive recall notice several weeks ago tried have service done with no success vehicle burned up.  view

After market equipment 30x9.5r15. left rear tire tread separated at 50mph, causing damage to vehicle.  view

1997 chevrolet, suburban had 2 problem tires. front driver's tire separated. passenger's rear tire blewout. dot #vn11b1a476. tire center will replace tires, but they were currently out of the requested tires.  view

The rear seat of my car was smoldering and giving off a lot of smoke and fumes with the exhaust problem. i was very alarmed since the back seat is very close to the gas tank. on the transmission and air conditioner both systems have had to be replced 3 or 4 times and usually about every 50k.  view

Enigine developed a very serious knocking and banging, and recently loss of oil pressure and low over 3 quarts of oil in about 800 miles after oil change. the knocking and banging got so bad that i couldn't maintain highway speeds causing a traffic hazard. if attempting to pull out and pass the knock may prevent accelleration causing a head on collision. continued knock will result in engine failure and damage.  view

Spare tire hoist and storage under the bed of the truck failed sending spare tire loose onto roadway. extremely dangerous to motorists behind. the cable holding the tire on the truck broke. although i do not have statistical proof, this spare tire hoist is failing more than necessary as i have been looking under late model trucks and seeing the same frayed cable probably indicating failure as occurred to me. called chevrolet, claim number c984196 and was stonewalled due to mileage of vehicle. this is a safety issue not a milieage issue/  view

Steering wheel fell into drivers lap when making a right turn into a drive way. streering column dropped into driver lap and steering was impossible!!  view

I just bought the car 07/21/00 & the car was smoking from the back no lights came on to inform me that the car was smoking - people flagged me down to let me know the car was smoking.  view

The entire top of the hood separated and flew off of the car and landed on the ground and was run over by the car behind. the hood seems to be made of 2 pieces sandwiched together. the top half of the entire hood completely separated from the bottom half. this was a safety recall item and ford claims it had been repaired. the dealer that did the repair in 1998 has changed computer systems and said they dont have a detailed record of repair. dealer and ford both claim that repair was warranted for only 12 months. it seems the repair wasnt sufficient. i think we should expect our automobiles not to fly apart and become missles that may injure or kill people. ford advised me to take it to a dealer . i am taking it to freehold ford in freehold, nj 732-462-3131.  view

Some of the rollover problems could be attributed not only to firestone tires but the steering which oversteers, is as sensitive as the power steering in the 1950 7 1960's. suggest you look into this. this vehicle handles very poorly on wet roads and small puddles, it wants to go whereever it feels like. suggest you look into this. should also have the extremely high center of gravity looked at closely.  view

Truck has been to dealer several times for vibration in drive train. they haent been able to remedy this problem at all. also the coil on the #4 cylinder has gone out twice . the vibrations have us worried about the safety of this vehicle  view

Ford admitted to newspaper columist that ball joints on many escorts and tempos were defective. missouri required annual safety inspections which caught many of these defective ball joints but many states did not require inspections. ford covered this problem up, so there is no way of knowing how many accidents were caused by failed ball joints.  view

For the first problem electrical under the dash. i having a problem with the fuse box and fuse relating to the shift lock which also controls the break light. there is a major short in which sparks do flash and the metal part of the fuse is melted. i have be warned by officer that my lights where not working. this is due to the electrical problem under the dash. i have nearly been in 8 wrecks due to the problem. i do know upon reading that maximas have problem electrically under the dash and some other nissan that my friends have owned. pertaining to the second issue. it is not the luggage rack but the spoiler (it was the closest thing on the list to describe.) i have had a problem and upon oberservation of other maximas it is not just mine. i believe due to a design flaw a problem with the spoiler is this. on the outer egdes of the spoiler on mine and others where the spoiler is attached to the trunk lid water gets up under the egdes and causes rust and release of the outer edges of the spoiler and they com loose as did mine. all that is left is 4, 8mm nuts to hold the spoiler. luckly mine held long enough keep mine on for me to stop. if not my spoiler could have come off and to the behind traffic cause a sever accident of the interstate. i have looked into replacing but the cost of the spoiler is 800.00. i have reattached but the spoiler is coming loose again. thank you  view

Spark plug blew out because it wasnt torqued enough at the factory. kia has not responded to my compliants. vehicle was in service for 28 days in a six month period.  view

While driving at highway speeds notice truck start to shake violently. looked out left mirror and seen a bubble in my left rear tire. stopped vehicle found tread was raised up about an inch high for about 12 inches in length and half the tread width. put spare tire on and proceeded with extreme caution to my destination. firestone would only replace the one tire due to it not being a recalled model yet. changed all four with competitors tire. spouse spoke with firestone over the phone and they said until it gets recalled they will only replace the one. spouse also used you site to download info regarding this matter and we continue to check for updates on the situation.( dot number: vd60axc096 tire size: 31x10.50r1 )  view

Headlights flicker or blink like flashers while driving. fuel injection system seems not to be getting necessary fuel at all times. paint has been peeling on the molding and i have been noticing spots in the paint more and more every week. had problem with anti-lock braking system made loud noises and malfunctioned while driving. transmission shut down on the interstate was driving 70mph then alll of a sudden it shut down to 35mph and it wouldn't go any faster. air condition vents are stuck in close position and some of them are not getting air through them at all.  view

I have had to replace 3 brand new batteries which were still under warranty, because they were totally drained. i believe there is something wrong with the electrical system. there is nothing that i have done that should have caused the batteries to die. the blower on the air conditioner/heat doesn't work and the dealer states that they can't find anything wrong with it. the cover of the passenger side airbag is prying up from the dashboard. i have had the brakes replace 2 times all ready and now all the rotors are warped and need to be replaced. i think this vehicle make has very serious defects and after reviewing other consumers problems. i'm very glad that i plan to sell mine very shortly.  view

I was just washing vehicle and found that the tire had began to crack. it is on the oustide edge of the tire near where the belts would be inside the tire. the vehicle is 21 months old, but only has 1600 miles and has been garage kept. tires have always had 34 pounds of air pressure. i do not have the dot number with me at my work where i have e-mail. i do know that they were coded for wilson, nc facality.( dot number: tire size: 265/70 x17 )  view

After exiting from a ramp, i proceeded to accelerate into traffic. there was a jerk and car felt as if it was "stuck" in gear. turned on and off, car did not move forward while in drive. other components appeared to be working. towed to mazda dealer. informed needed completely new transmission  view

When accelerating from stop, engine trys to stall causing the car to suddenly lunge forward when the engine finally decides it is not going to stall. taken to dealer three times with no improvement in problem. no injuries or damage has occured yet!!!  view

Vechile repeatedly fails to start. it has the sensation that it's not getting any fuel. on two separate occasions, the vehicle has died while driving around 25/35mph, again feeling as if it had ran out of gas. on both occasions i had over half a tank of gas. i have taken the car to the dealer 3 times, once it was towed, and they kept it for two or three days saying they cannot find anything wrong.  view

I was advised by the subaru repair manager that this clutch is not good. he recommended i install a higher priced forrester clutch because it will last longer. he said failure of this clutch is common. i also understand previous years have the same problems.  view

A/c compressor and condenser failed-valve did not open properly- need to replace the whole unit instead of valve only. common problem with vw. nhtsa should have this unit recalled.  view

This malfunction was identified by the vehicle stalling in traffic numerous times. the engine would stop without warning or indication of a problem and was also intermittent. sometimes the engine would restart and run for a short period and sometimes it would run without incident for several days. after several days of trying to duplicate this malfunction, king oldsmobile, 1399 s. federal highway, deerfield beach, fl 33441, ph: 954 574-1427,the vehicle stalled. they determined the fuel pump to be the cause of the problem. upon removal of the fuel pump, they found frayed wiring and evidence of arcing at an electrical connector on the fuel pump. this pump is located in the fuel tank. (i have the old fuel pump if needed for inspection) the vehicle has been performing without incident since repaired. i called oldsmobile custormer service and informed them of this problem. i told them i felt that this was a safety concern as well as a possible problem area, since the nhtsa website had three similar reported malfunctions, odi id 866437, 780417, 850386. they recorded this information, however , i was not satisfied that this would be investigated. this appears not to be an isolated case. my file number at oldsmobile is 00313584, customer service ph: 1-800-442-6537.  view

As we travelled along a busy road, the transmision failed without warning adn we were unable to engage any gear, which put us some real danger as we attempted to move the car to the side of the road. we we told by the dealer that saab has known of a failure in the cnetral computer in the 9-5 model and has been replacing computers in cars even if they come in for routine maintenance. we were never informed of any problem with this car and drove it without realizing the danger it presented. the car was towed to the dealer and the computer replaced, but as of today new electrical problems have appeared and we fear the problem is not solved.  view

From a stop, upon depressing the gas pedal there is no fuel getting thru. occurs monthly. been to shop twice and they can't find problem.  view

Dealership informed me that chrysler's warranty did not cover this defect and if not repaired it could lead to an accident and non function of the vehicle this should be a recall item it dangerous when you have limited control of steering and the engine sound like it was going to fall out when you stopped.  view

Vehicle has had engine (oil) leaks since approximately 60000 miles. now vehicle has a blown head gasket and oil is leaking into other engine compartments creating a fire hazard.  view

Both ford motor corp. and galpin lincoln-mercury refused to cover for repairs. owner had to do so at his own expense.  view

The blower fan was replaced by the dealer because of a recall. it lasted about 3 months and proceeded to break again. this time the dealer stated that i had to replace the fuse panel in the car. i took the car to a local mechanic and he reaffirm the defect. they also stated that they rarely had to replace a fuse panel. in addition to this repair, both power window regulators went out on the driver and passenger front sides of the car. the company that did the repair said this is very common in ford vehicles. i contacted the regional office of ford and they would not give me any restitution on these repairs.  view

This is the second windshield failure due to stress cracks in less than five years on my 1995 ford crown victoria lx. i am reporting this so that it may prevent someone from becoming injured.  view

I have the 16" firestone tires not under recall, however it is important to note that after learning of the recall i checked the air pressure in the tires of my new vehicle cold. right front at 34.5 psi, right rear at 33.5 psi,left front at 32.5 psi, and left rear at 32 psi. the tires should have been inflated to 30 psi. it would appear that ford does not control the inflation of the tires correctly.  view

Dealer advised that truck had sat in water for a large amount of time for grease to escape rack end boots. truck has never been in deep water, only dirt roads. rack ends are rusted and need replacement. truck has been through two sets of tires both being the type supplied by toyota with the vehicle. we get about 12000 miles on 50000 mile tires, truck wears tires as if faulty front end parts. tie rod end on drivers side bad, probably cause of tire wear, been to dealer several times to complain about tire wear. never inspected tie rod ends or shocks, dealer said they get many complaints on tire wear on these trucks.( dot number: tire size: 265/75r/15 )  view

Both my right seat belts have broke and no longer work. my front right broke while i ,the owner ,was in the passenger seat. if an accident had occur i could have been seriously injured. i have a 1 year old daughter and wouldn't want her belt to break while i am driving. i feel the manufactor should replace all my seat belts for the safety of my family. i have even noticed my driver seat belt lock coming apart slowly.t  view

While turning on the ignition car took off into the house, and hit another consumer, injuring them. sept of 1998, consumer put car in reverse and car took off backwards, consumer had to turn off the key to stop the car.  view

This defect involves sidewall deterioration and abnormal wear. the car was bought with 35000mi and immediately they started wearing. in june the first two started losing air between the base of the tread & sidewall. in early july the other 2 followed suit. we replaced all 4 tires with b.f. goodrich with an lt rating. also, tire pressure was kept at 30psi instead of 26 at all times. When i turned the key to start my car that morning the battery blew up. it had enough force that it damaged my hood. when i told my service advisor about it she didn't sound at all suprised. she merely told me that the battery must have gotten too dry. later i told her that the battery shouldn't have exploded like that even if it was dry. i said i had never known anyone who had a bottery blow up like that, and she said "oh, it happens all the time." she went on to tell me that they have "about one per week." this seems extremely dangerous to me because someone could have been severely injured if they had their face anywhere close to that battery when i turned the ignition.  view

At 10 am on 9/24/2000 going west on the 210 at approx. 65 mph. slight bumpiness for less than three minutes, then blowout occurred. tire exploded and vehicle fishtailed across three lanes of traffic. mercifully, no one was injured. the tread separated( dot number: tire size: p185/65r1 )  view

The throw out bearing started to go out, i was on my way home on the freeway when i had to slow down due to construction. i had shifted down to 4th gear, after i had done that, it popped out of 4th gear twice nearly causing an accident. i was almost home, so i proceeded, after a while longer the car hesitated for a split second then proceed for about a 1/4 mile when it lost all transmission power. after this occured, the engine continued to run fine. my car is now in the shop needing a new clutch & transmission. the shop says that the planetary gears broke, inside the transmission.  view

Since new the speedometer has been reading 8 to 9% in error-verified by the dealer service department. honda claims a 10% variance is normal. this can be a concern while driving the car-may be driving at the posted limits or i may not be if the calibration is off and is waverying in its readings.  view

Reverse shell cracked and exploded sending shrapnel throuhout the whole transmission, damaging many more parts of transmission. transmission specialist had never seen a reverse shell chewed up and demolished as this one. incidentally, replacement new part is made of a different material- carbon steel.  view

The original battery failed at 27,000 miles and was replaced in march 1999 with a new 60 month battery. now 17 months later the battery has failed again and was told by the dealer that the battery had to be replaced. there seems to be an issue with the short life of batteries in these minivans. a side note is my sister inlaw has a 98 t&c with 26k and her battery needed to be replaced. please provide any information that you have on this. thanks!  view

My owners maintenance schedual calls for the timing belt of the 1.8l engine(only)to be changed at 60k, were the 1.9l engine timeing belt is not listed. made myself a real pain to have it changed. i was told that it should not be changed in my viehicle. now that the belt has broken, i am told that it is may own stupid fault. i like to do the preventative maintenance on the cars. what i would like to know is; where do i go wrong? i know that it should have been changed, but why put it in the owners manual not to?  view

The left lower control arm has been replaced. this is a very common occurance among a4 owners. audi has refused to replace the right lower control arm after it had begun showing similar problems. audiworld.com lists well over 50 people who have had control arms replaced. i felt you should be notified.  view

Drivers side seat will not lock and when applying brakes it will slide backward resulting in not being able to stop at light and stop signs  view

Fan belt slips, dealer fix and it still slips- read in newspaper where this is a commom problem for this year and make due to improperly tighten crank shaft pully. wanted to add my input to this problem as it said that there could be a possible recall for this. also, engine has a tendence to surge as you are driving at highway speeds.  view

My 95 dodge neon (color-iris) has paint flaking off in many areas. there is no hail damage or previose wrecks,there seems to be no reason for this. i have seen two other neons around that have the same problem. i realize the car is five years old but never have a seen a car have paint just falling off like it is on mine. no safety defect mentione din summary.  view

At 11:00 am on wednesday, august 9, bridgestone/firestone (firestone) and ford announced jointly that firestone will recall approximately 14.4 million tires that contain a safety-related defect. While pulling into a parking space with foot on brake, car suddenly accelerated and crashed. dealer could not identify the defect. damage: $1,500. this is a serious saftey problem that has been repeatedly reported for model years 1996 through 1999. why hasn't the government taken any action? i wonder how many people did not live to tell about it. i was one of the fortunate ones. this not only puts the driver and passengers in jeopardy, but pedestrians as well!  view

Car would shimmy when braking - brakes had to be grounded & was told this was common with the 1999 jeep. salesman didn't know anything about this problem. brakes were ground down to prevent additional warping.  view
