1993 FORD CROWN VICTORIA User Comment / Complaint

While attempting to slow down, brakes do not work, rpms go up. tt consumer states thsi has happened twice while traveling on a major highway, engine strides at 2500 rpm it will not go up when consumer steps on the gas and will not sloow below 200rpm consumer sttes it seems like cruise control but he does not have it, dealer has refused tomake any repairs.  view

While vehicle was in reverse it would not engage immediately. when it finally engaged, a thumping noise was heard. dealer has been notified.  view

Put key in the ignition and it would not turn. could not turn the outer ring without a key.consumer has contacted manufacturer who told them to contact the dealer.  view

Airbag warning light comes on, indicating a malfunction in srs. this would possibly leave a passenger in vehicle without airbag protection in case of a crash. dealer replaced airbag system.  view

Pe99049, windshield wipers malfunction, causing poor visibility which may result in a crash. high mode goes too slowly, and the low mode goes too fast. please provide further information.  view

While traveling at 50mph white cloud began comming from exhaust pipe and water temperature began to rise, pulled over and had car towed to repair shop. mechanic informed me that both head gaskets had failed and that repair estament was $1200.00, i called a ford dealership and recieved a slightly higher estament but ford failed to mention that the taurus and sable engines were having problems with faulity head gaskets.  view

Due to the "flap in the fuel nozzle which gets stuck and causes the fuel to spray out when fueling the vehicle. this may cause a fire if there is a source of ignition. please provide further further information. ford stated that it is a service bulletin not a recall, only to be replaced undetr warranty. jn  view

Consumer was sent a recall 97v074000, concerning throttle linkages and control. contacted dealer in reference to recall.dealer refused to correct recall's application to cold climate areas only. the car may not slow down or stop as promptly as expected, and the throttle plate may stay in the highway cruising position. this could mean a potential accident. When vehicle stops at a light engine idles and causes the vehicle to rock. dealer has seen vehicle 4 to 5 times, and still there is no solution.  view

Undercarriage vehicle fire caused by fuel lines leaking fuel. tt leaking fuel pump and leaking gas line underneath vehicle, fuel pump was replaced, vehicle kept stalling, consumer began to smell fuel and vehicle caught fire while driving.  view

Purchase car used at 59,000 miles transmission needs to be replaced. tt transmission was experiencing hard shifting, consumer had taken vehicle to dealer several times to inspect transmisison, however dealer always said that there were no problems, dealer stated later after warranty had expired that a new torque converter, pump, and other various transmission parts were needed. speedometer cable failed, repair of the cable lessened the shifting problems, however transmission still did not feel correct.  view

When the speedometer hit 32,000 it didn't speed. consumer contacted dealer and manufacturer.  view

There is a squealing noise coming from the front end in the suspension. dealership knows about the problem & referred owner to the hotline.  view

They have tried to fix the recall item two times now with no success. the ignition locks up numerous times, the gear shifter is able to be moved when the car is turned off into gear, neutral, etc. it has caused a couple near serious accidents. i am wondering what kind of help your orginization can offer??????? i have no clue where to go from here. i am getting no response from daimlerchrysler and no support or direction from manassas dodge service center.  view

Emergency parking brake fails to stay engaged.  view

Vehicle was in a head-on collision with another vehicle at 40 mph, and neither driver's side nor passenger's side airbags deployed. dealer has not seen vehicle, it has been totaled.  view

The car struck a pothole in a jackson, ms residential street while traveling at the posted speed limit (35mph). this action caused the horn to stick. according to my mechanic, this problem is common on this type model and year of volvo. he says the cause is electrical contact problems in the horn assembly which causes the entire steering wheel to need replacing (approx $800 cost). similar problems have been reported with the contact assy (re report # 705930). this problem is safety related. my wife had to drive in traffic after the event with the horn blasting away. although no accident was caused by this, it still should be investigated for possible recall/re-design, especially in a car product that is sold with emphasis on safety related features. in addition, the horn is fused on the same circuit as the windshield wiper. in order to shut off the horn, i disabled it be removing the fuse. on my way to the shop for repairs, a thunderstorm occurred which made it impossible for me to drive without the benefit of windshield wipers. although no accident occurred, i was certainly placed in great danger given the amount of traffic around me on a section of highway that was under construction. thank you.  view

Airbag light went off 7-3-99. sensor was defective, replaced by dealer 7-6-99. sensor defective again 7-11-99, dealer will replace again soon.  view

While driving at approximately 60mph hit a bump in the road, where they were doing road work, front end vibrated uncontrollably, even lost control after deceleration. problem still occurs.  view

When child pulled on seat belt to see how far it would come out, seat belt pulled child up into the back window as if it could have strangled the child. consumer had to cut it loose to remove child.  view

Whil econsumer was driving another car hit her from behind and pushed her into the curb, and then into a tree. neither airbag deployed.  view

Bracket edge that holds the center tumble seat to the floor is razor sharp. the seat was in the forward tumble position when daughter's knee was cut wide open when getting into vehicle. manufacturer was notified about the problem. an engineer from dodge is being sent out to look at the vehicle.  view

Cv boot moved, causing strap that holds boot to hit oil filter, resulting in hole in filter/oil to leak out.  view

Car first ran hot on 2/4/99. ford would not pay since it was out of warranty. had an independent to replace the head gaskets. picked up car - car ran bad. returned car to garage was told that crankshaft and crankshaft bearings were bad. elected to replace the engine in lieu of repairing. car ok for 3 months. ran hot again. replaced thermostat. continued to run hot. took it to hillard ford in arlington tx. hillard checked it out for a week. could not get it to overheat but replaced spark plugs and an ignition module. have had car for 3 days. car overheated, again. haven't had a chance to identify the problem, but is a continual problem with the windstar.  view

Had the vehicle in reverse when brakes failed to function while on an incline. had little braking power on straight away. manufacturer knows of brake problem. the dealer/mechanic are aware of problem, but nothing was being done.  view

Had received recall notice 96v226000. contacted dealer. took vehicle on date given. picked vehicle up. recall work not done. vehicle in same location. bolts were never replaced. original bolts still on seat & still rusty. seatback had broke.  view

While parking vehicle, foot lightly touching gas pedal, pedal went to floor , causing unintended sudden acceleration, happened on 2 separate occasions, both times resulting in accidents, lurched forward 50 ft into wodds, hit tree.  view

The steering in this 1999 grand cherokee jeep has major flaw associated with making tight turns. whenever we try to make a tight right or left turn the steering wheel shakes violently with a total loss of steering control.  view

Spring in the shield that helps hold it to the seat has come out, allowing part of the shield to be loose. manufacturer has not seen vehicle.  view

Vehicle has had to have a new transmission, head gasket, spark plugs and wires, and the fuel gauge stopped functioning. all before 60,000 miles.  view
