Consumer received recall letter (99v062) regarding a possible defective cruise control cable. consumer brought in the vehicle at 7:30 a.m. for repairs and was told to pick up the vehicle at 4:30. consumer arrived at 4:37 and the repairs were not done, but vehicle had an extra 32 miles on it as if it had been driven after delivery. repairs still have not been done due to lack of parts and poor.  view

Consumer continues to experience problems noise with brake system, several repairs of pad and rotors repositioning of the brake cables have not corrected problems. yh  view

Vehicle hasdthree recalls,manufacturer failed to fix,emissions failure,/subsystems/carburator fails smog as result.  view

The motor froze after overheating. the reason for the failure was the heater hose rubbed against an electrical connector at the location near the firewall. there is no sleeve on this hose to protect it as other hoses are protected. over time it had worn a hole in the hose and the marjorty of the coolent leaked out and the speed that i was traveling i could not tell the car was overheating because of the relative speed that i was traveling. i never saw the vehicle overheat and it blew the motor while i was going down the highway. my car is out of warranty, but i wanted to let other know there is a potential hazard with the motor freezing up and ofcourse it is too late. my motor started to cough, that was the only indication that there was a problem.  view

Recall # 98v32300 ford/subframe corrosion; after having recall work performed owner began to have a number of problemsiwth vehicle, such as loud clunking noise. also,transmission was falling from under the car. vehicle seemed as though it was changing gears while driving. please provide any furhter details.  view

Recall # 99v124000 ford/speed control switch: dealer does not have parts to correct recall. owner is upset because he has been waiting for 3 weeks to get recall work performed.  view

Vehicle had two sets of front tie rod replacements since november, 1998, and believed that this condition was due to a manufacturer's defect (anti-sway bar link arms). delaer notified and informed consumer that the 98 vehicle was corrected for that same problem, but nothing was done for owner of 1997 vehicle. can nhtsa provide additional information or help in this matter.  view

Battery not easily accesible due to design, during monthly check of battery by consumer the plus pole to the battery contacted the striker plate resulting in an explosive type discharge. nlm  view

The cooling coils for air conditioning unit loacated in front of radiator, the fins are closing up. the week of 6/21/99 i took it to the dealership for a brake switch recall and showed them this condition. i was told they had never seen this before, and had no resolve. robert jacobs, works with me at my place of employment has the same year truck i have and his is the same way, 7/1/99 i walked through our parking lot and found 3 more gmc trucks and 1 chevrolet truck with same condition. i do not understand why my dealership is unaware of the problem, unless it has never been reported, i am not complaining i like my truck would just like to know whats going on.  view

I have owned a 86,93,95,and 97 suburban. so suburban steering is very familiar to me. the 1997 suburban steering is unsafe. when the vehicle was first purchased the variable assist failed pulling an rv trailer. whenever a vehicle passed our suburban the steering had so much oversteer that if turned in any direction it would dart left and right either going off the highway or in the other lane. several attempts were made to repair the steering,then lemon law was invoked. two more attempts were made,the final one resulted in all of the service manager's steering components being removed from his 98 truck and placed on the suburban. the steering was better but poor compared to the 95 and 93 suburban. today the vehicle is still scary to drive on rutted wet roads at speed. just recently a chip failed in the steering when turning left, causing over correction into other lanes. the dealer said this had happened in other vehicles and repaired the vehicle. unless gm fixes this problem,my intent is to buy another vehicle that is safe for family. it will not be a gm suburban. the steering needs to be completely replaced with previous non variable assist.  view

Tensioner pulley for serpentine belt sheared off engine, causing complete loss of steering control. vehicle had to be towed, no accident. this is the second tensioner to break on this vehicle since new. trans axle has been repaired 8 times since new for slamming into gear on shifts. transaxel finally went into limp along mode and had to be replaced with a new factory rebuilt unit at a cost of $1486.88 to me.  view

On june 1, 1999 i noticed the drivers side door bolts on the top hinge beginning to rust through the body of the car. in the next couple of weeks, through normal use of the door, the top hinge completely separated from the body of the car. this resulted in the door being supported solely by the lower hinge, making it near impossible to use. i contacted 2 different chevrolet dealers as well as chevrolet's 800 number for special concerns. all attempts to report the problem ended with negative results. it is my belief that this is a design defect and should be investigated. i finally had the vehicle repaired by an independent body shop.  view

This is a major problem in the transmission, everyone i know is having this same problem. each time it's the nut backing off on 5th gear. time and money are lost when this occurs, and it's being repaired not solved. some of my friends have had their trucks in the shop numerous times to repair for this annoying and costly problem.  view

While driving along at approx. 50 mph. the car slipped in and out of drive. this resulted in a rapid decelleration, nearly causing an accident with the vehicle immediatly behind me. the dealership was unable to take the car in that day as there regular transmission person was off. i continued driving the car and much to my amazement the car seemed to skip far less if i activated the cruise control. the shift changing would only happen at high speeds,ie 50 mph. my concern is i was not offered a clear explanation as to the cause, just charged an unbelievable amount to overhaul the entire transmission! please advise.  view

Original spedometer failed at 27000 miles, replacement by ford only lasted 20000 miles. dealer and ford customer service both refused to cover the replacement saying it is out of warranty. based on my experience and having read the reports on ford speedometers, they are placing defective equipment in thier cars and are not living up to their responsibility to their customers nor their suppoed commitment to quality.  view

While accelerating from 15 mph and turning left, the transmission slips out of gear then bangs into gear, causing tires to screech and car to jump forward quickly.  view

Flames come up the carburetor inside the cocah and out the tail pipe right at the passenger's side door. michelin tires, radial, 8r195xzalrf, experienced blowout in the middle on the side. tag axle twists and rubs brakes causing lock up, bushings keep falling out. steering column faulty. cruise control does not disengage.  view

At about 20000 miles the engine lost power , had a rough idle and then engine check light came on. i took the car to the dealer and they replaced two injectors. about 1000 miles later, the engine did the same thing and the ses light came on. i took it back to the dealer and they replaced the other four injectors.  view

Vehicle suddenly accelerated while backing out of parking space. luckily no person or car was in the way. put car in drive and acceleration stopped. scary.  view

When i took vehicle into the local plymouth dealer to have the problem looked at, the service manager commented that this was the third gas tank that had to be replaced in the past two weeks. the gas tank on our minivan developed a crack and the gasoline would leak out onto the driveway and also would fill the occupant area with gas fumes. i do not believe that i caused this gas tank failure -- i would like to you look into the possibility of a recall.  view
