Fuel rail pipe that joins fuel injectors to both sides of the engine started spraying fuel on valve covers. used parts dealers in the phoenix area tell me they receive 3-4 calls per week for this part. it is available new from the dealer only at a cost of approximately $500 with all seals. since so many caravan owners seem to be experiencing this problem, the nhtsa should launch an investigation into this potentially explosive problem.  view

On repeated times braking at lights and stop signs with an rough road surface the rear tires will skip, the abs system will buzz, the brake pedal will go down below the pressure i am applying and it feels like the truck will not stop. once the truck has stopped the brake pedal is on the floor. when released it slowly comes back up. when accelerating away from this stop, it feels like the brakes are still applied. i have learned after many times of this happening i have to stop the truck, back up a bit and i can feel them release. i can drive normally then. when this happens, it is a intermittent problem, and i have reached my destination i can smell the brakes in the front as if they have been applied while driving. the rotors are now blue and the pads are now worn down to less than 30% of factory thickness. the dealer on three occasions has said they can not duplicate this problem. it is my driving habits on the brake wear and is common for this model to wear brakes like this at this mileage. i also can not stop this vehicle on a panic stop situation. last month i had to stop the vehicle in a panic at 2-3 mph. i hit the brakes, the vehicle nosed down, the abs buzzed and the truck continued to roll into the car in front of me. the brake pedal was on the floor with no further travel left. i was standing on the pedal pulling up on the steering wheel and the truck would not stop. the next morning i took it back to the selling dealer durant autoplex. i could demonstrate this condition as could the service manager. he said this is not uncommon for this vehicle. he even said his demo was worse than mine. i filed a complaint with him and gmc. i had my truck fixed and ron bayers the service manager said he had the abs system check and double checked and found no fault with any component in the abs system. he said there have been many complaints from owners with similar vehicle that can not stop them under a panic stop even at hwy speeds. what do i do? please advise.  view

Back in beginning of january i received a recall notice from ford on my 1997 probe. they said there was a possible defect in the timing belt tensioner. their recall number is 98s30. the letter said to call ford and tell them what dealership i wanted to take my car to and they would send the part to that dealership and have the dealership contact me. so i called the number in the letter and ford got my home and work numbers as well as the dealership that i wanted to go to, and said that i should hear from the dealership within 5 days, but that if i didn't i should call the dealership and schedule a time to take my car in. i did not hear from the dealership so i called and made an appointment to take my car in. they looked at the car and told me they couldn't check it because they hadn't received the kit from ford. so i called ford back and was told that the part orders had been lost and that they would resubmit it. so i waited a while and still never heard anything. i called the dealership again and they still didn't know anything about it. i have called ford several times about it and they don't seem to want to do anything. i called them most recently about 3 weeks ago and told them i was going out of town in 3 weeks, and wanted it checked before then. i was assured that it would be. that time has passed and i still haven't heard anything. when a manufacturer puts out a recall on a car aren't they required to fix it? i can't seem to get them to do anything about mine. so i have taken this action to try and get my car checked out to make sure that it is in good running order.  view

The turn signal/blinker often got stuck between bright and dim. when that happened the headlights would be off. when the switch got stuck the only way to turn the lights back on would be to pull the bright switch again. twice when this happened the signal switch broke (i had it replaced once), leaving me stuck on the road with my headlights off at night. i had to take the car to the dealer to fix it.  view

Last year i started having problems with the vehicle i`ve purchased. i`ve contacted the dealer with the problems, and they have told me that repairs wouldn`t be done at no charge because my car is no longer covered by a manufacturer`s warranty. when i drive my car, the ride is very stiff, every time there is a crack or a little bump on the road it feels like you are driving off the road. you can literally hear every little crack in the pavement.i`ve driven my friends acura integra 1995 se, it`s the same car, made the same year with similar milieage, and it didn`t have any problems such as the ones on my car. i`ve taken my car to the repair shop, and i`ve been told that the shocks are fine, and that a car such as mine should not have problems like the ones listed above. the exhaust has also broke. the aluminum cover that goes around the exhaust pipe to prevent it from getting rusted or getting damaged is broken, every time i change gears that buzzing noise is coming from the exhaust pipe. the dealer has told me that it would cost around two hundred dollars to get fixed. i was just wondering, if dealer refuses to make the repairs on my car because it has run out of warranty, who should i contact? i`ve been taking care of my car, never raced it . i`ve been told by a mechanic that the problems i have with my car, do not usually occur in this year`s model acura with similar mileage.  view

Fuel injectors leak similarly to 300zx,200sx,and maxima that were voluntarily repaired by nissan. there is a great fire danger and mileage and drivability problem. nissan refuses to repair the problem, stating that there is no evidence of a defect in the injectors of the '88 pulsar with multi-port injection eventhough it is the same manufacturer as the replaced '88 300 et al, and has the same exact safety problem.  view

In august of 1997 i purchased a used ford windstar from robin ford in glenolden,pa. i traded in my 91 ford topaz. the mileage on the windstar when purchased was 28,853. in september of 1997 i took the windstar in to ford in hazelton to flush and fill radiator, and a new fuel filter. at that time i was having problems with my doors sticking. they lubed cylinder. in december of the same year, i took it back to have all locks replaced, have a recall done, oil change and filter, and at that time i informed them that i was smelling anti-freeze, to please look into it. they checked for leaks and loose hoses, and found nothing. even though i continued to smell it, they told me that they could find nothing. in march of 98 i complained of my windows fogging, again. they told me there was no leaks that they could see.they installed new head gaskets oil and filter two plugs. i also had an inspection done and an alignment. things seemed to be okay to me. then i started smelling anti-freeze again, and went back to tell them that there was something wrong. when they checked it they found that the gaskets had not set right. and that they would have to replace them again. that was in febuary of this year. also had a state inspection done. although i did not have to pay for the gaskets i did have to pay for a head cover, because they told me that was separate from the gaskets. i picked my car on the 26th of febuary that was a friday, and by monday morning i was back telling them that i still smelled anti-freeze, and that the car was not running properly, that it felt as if it wanted to stall, everytime i stopped or put in reverse. i was told that the computer would have to relearn itself??????? and that i probably would smell anti-freeze for awhile. then this past weekend i had to take my son to visit with a friend, and the car seemed to not have any pickup, and it started to stall, it would stall when i came to a stop, or tried to park it, when i was sitting at a light it.  view

Prior to end of warranty, light came on dash, showing air bag. two days later it went out. i checked with local dealership, (reeves pontiac in greenwood indiana) they were already aware pontiac had a problem with air bag lights as a service bulletin had been published. they said there had not been a recall. two months later at 40000 miles, the light came on again and would not go out. the cost to fix it is about $350.00. still no recall for an electrical switch they know may be defective, yet they published a bulletin and sent it out to all dealerships and did not notify car owners about possible problelm.  view

My research on this issue shows a rather alarming rate of transmission failures on 1993-1995 jeep grand cherokees. chrysler without any fight agreed to pay half the cost of repair. i believe they have been doing this with owners who call them to report the problem, in an attempt to keep debate quiet about potential for a recall. the failed transmission component was unavailable for replacement for 6 months due to "national back order". both the dealer and the transmission shop who performed the work, indicated "...we see more of these than we should."  view

On repeated times braking at lights and stop signs with an rough road surface the rear tires will skip, the abs system will buzz, the brake pedal will go down below the pressure i am applying and it feels like the truck will not stop. once the truck has stopped the brake pedal is on the floor. when released it slowly comes back up. when accelerating away from this stop, it feels like the brakes are still applied. i have learned after many times of this happening i have to stop the truck, back up a bit and i can feel them release. i can drive normally then. when this happens, it is a intermittent problem, and i have reached my destination i can smell the brakes in the front as if they have been applied while driving. the rotors are now blue and the pads are now worn down to less than 30% of factory thickness. the dealer on three occasions has said they can not duplicate this problem. it is my driving habits on the brake wear and is common for this model to wear brakes like this at this mileage. i also can not stop this vehicle on a panic stop situation. last month i had to stop the vehicle in a panic at 2-3 mph. i hit the brakes, the vehicle nosed down, the abs buzzed and the truck continued to roll into the car in front of me. the brake pedal was on the floor with no further travel left. i was standing on the pedal pulling up on the steering wheel and the truck would not stop. the next morning i took it back to the selling dealer durant autoplex. i could demonstrate this condition as could the service manager. he said this is not uncommon for this vehicle. he even said his demo was worse than mine. i filed a complaint with him and gmc. i had my truck fixed and ron bayers the service manager said he had the abs system check and double checked and found no fault with any component in the abs system. he said there have been many complaints from owners with similar vehicle that can not stop them under a panic stop even at hwy speeds. what do i do? please advise.  view

On a return trip from ca. my toyota previa just stopped running. it would not start again so had to have it towed to las vegas nv. about 50 miles. in taking the van to my mechanic he said that it was totally out of water and almost out of oil .the first piston has no compresion the rest are below 100 puonds. the van gave no warning that it was out of water or even low on oil, also this van has extra oil up under the hood, and it has a pump that should have pumped oil into the engine, it did not it failed. also the wraning gauge did not indicate that the engine was overheating. thank you for your time rich in vegas.  view

While driving the air bag light came on on the dashboard of my dodge caravan..i called dealer and they asked me to bring in right away. i made appointment for the very next morning and dropped off early at approx. 6:45.my wife was contacted at 7:30am and informed it needed some part, and the aproximateprice 200.00 or more and that when they get inside the steering column there could be other problems. i asked why i was having this problem. as far as i am concerned i should not have to worry about an airbag only in case of accident. i believe it is not my fault that it is something wrong with the caravan. but they said i was responsible for the payment. i told them not to touch it that i wanted to contact chrysler which i did, and was told to shop around to other dealers for cheaper price. i have two children and i believe no airbags in my minivan. i am not happy how they have treated me and feel that chrysler should be responsible..any information that you could provide me would be greatly appreciated..thank you..dan or denise mcguiggan..  view

Left front brake was seizing and pulling vehicle to left, after stop and go driving. i had this same experience with a 1982 ford f-100 pickup and finally corrected it by replacing "pneumonic" rubber disc brake pistons with steel ones (ceramic were available, too). i feel these "rubber" pistons, if used, should be recalled and replaced at mfr.'s expense. this problem caused a lot of stress in a long trip in the f-150.  view

The other day i was at a fast food drive up and my truck wouldn't shift out of park. i contacted my dealer and they told me how to get it to shift.they said oh your brake lights probably have been coming and going with this problem.also. the shift lock mechanism is integrated in the brake switch, and ford has had some trouble with wire fatigue at the brake light switch. so as i was having trouble with the shiftlock i was unknowingly driving at times with no brake lights. this comment was made directly from my ford dealer. i asked if there were any tsb's or recalls for the cond., he said it was a commen problem for years but ford wouldn't do anything unless enough people ratted them to some authority that would make them correct this wide spread problem. he told me that on earlier modles without shiftlock wouldn't even know that they had even lost there brake lights. i looked at the connection on my trucks brake switch and sure enough the wire had been made so short from the factory that every time you would hit the brake it was pulling on it and one of the two wires on my truck had broken. i can't believe that i had a problem with my brake lights when for two days i thought i had a problem with my shift linkage. if i would have been hit then who would have been at fault? in my opinion ford, i mean when my local dealer in warsaw in can tell me over the phone then how many people have been killed in the u.s. from not having brake lights and were totally unaware ford endangered my life and i will never buy another ford product as long as i live! i sure hope they save a buck if my dealer knows that there is a problem, then so does ford. it's a safty issue so where is the recall? thank you. tony johnson.  view

Took car in for routine oil change, when service tech attempted to remove the dipstick to check oil level, the yellow plastic top broke off, prohibiting removal. had to go to a local chrysler dealership to purchase new dipstick and have broken one removed. on the second entry, the trunk lid did not stay open, and hit person(s) placing items in or removing items from trunk. and on the third entry, there is a constant film on the windshield which severely limits clear vision and also causes extreme glare, especially during night driving.  view

Front subframe rusted out. this was discovered prior to complete failure as a result of noises in the front end. first there was a recall to protect the tires from front springs which rust out/ broke, and punctured the tires. then there was a recall to replace two bolts in the subframe which rust out. now the subframe itself has rusted out. this series of rust problems in critical front end components seems to be more than coincidence. the service manager at summit lincoln mercury said he has seen many cars with this problem, but most of them are discovered in time to weld the subframe rather than completely replace the assembly. my car's subframe completely rusted out where the horozontal strut arms mount. ford denies this is a safety issue.  view

While driving on the interstate the sun roof blew off the vehical, causing other vehicals behind to swerve in order to miss the shattering glass. fortunatly, no one was injured and no futher damage caused. at the time of the incident the sunroof was in the closed position with the interior sun shade also being closed. the car was traveling on the interstate at approximately 70mph. there was extra wind noise noted right before the sun roof blew off. this incident could not possibly be due to normal wear and tear of a vehicle. all the local dealers agreed that chrysler should be held accountable, but since it was beyond the warranty they were unable to assist me. the service manager, frank bears, at gulf coast dodge in fort myers, fl advised me to contact the chrysler corp., giving me their 800 number. he told me to use phrases and words such as " you (meaning dogde) are lucky no one was hurt or that there was no property damage. mr. bear told me to use words liable." i also called another dealership in the area and got a similar response. unfortunatly, the chrysler corp. customer service center was not as agreeable as their local service centers. the woman, carol green, told me that since this had never happened before that chysler would not be able to accomodate me. she said that i could call my insurance company. i told her that this was unacceptable and she said that i was welcome to call the state attorney generals office. eventually, this led me to you. my file number with chrysler is #571792. since it is difficult to write in this form i would suggest that you speak to me directly. i need to know if i should go ahead and pay to have it fixed before someone examines the vehicle. it truly looks as if the glass was glued onto the frame. there are no appeaent bolts or holes where bolts might be. the frame doesn't not appear to be bent and seems to work smoothly even without the glass. this is my main mode of transportation.  view

The car has been taken to the dealer at least 3 times; the problem is temporarily fixed and reoccurs. i have been given different stories, such as it is a result of using different metals and volvo is aware of the problem. my son was driving the car on an interstate highway last week when a downpour started and he foundout that the driver's wiper failed again. today the dealer told me the only thing to do is tighten the nut with a 13/16 wrench. the problem is that unless you check it each time you start the car, you only find out about the problem in rain on the road. my sister-in-law has a 1994 volvo 850 with the same problem, although hers fails less often. our car is still covered by a volvo extended warranty, but the dealer says there is no permanent fix - just keep tightening the wiper nut. this does not seem to be a reasonable, acceptable or safe solution. thank you.  view

The hood support struts (gas filled hood lifts) fail during cold weather. they do not reliably hold up the hood when they are cold (e.g., car idle overnight). when warmed (e.g., by engine heat), they usually work again. now that the weather is warmer, they work, but not as well as when the car was new. they obviously are on their way to eventual total failure. both the dealer and nissan hq have been informed of the problem by fax letter. nissan hq has assigned file #2816812 to the problem. nissan does not recognize the problem as a safety related defect. further, a nissan representative indicates that hood support struts can fail at any time. i believe the problem is a safety related defect; their failure could let the hood drop on someone's head without warning. in my opinion, hood support struts should be all-weather, safety related parts that are warranted for the life of the car (something akin to seat belts). nissan has offered to replace the hood support struts for about $100. i believe nissan should replace them free of charge.  view

I am very displeased with my purchase of this vehicle. i will not ever purchase another chrysler vehicle for the rest of my living life. i will also make sure to tell everyone i know which exist of my friends, family, coworkers and any other individual who even plans to purchase a chrysler, to change their mind. when i took my car in for an oil change i asked them to check my car because it was making this clanking sound whenver i went on a bumpy road. i was told by the first mechanic once he inspected underneath the car, that my motor mount was broken and my main seal was leaking due to this broken motor mount. the mechanic said it appeared to be a manufacturer default because motor mounts are suppose to last a long time. i had a second opinion done on the car since the damages were so high in cost. the second mechanic said the same and thought it very suspicious that the motor mount was broken for a car that was only 3 years old. both mechanics suggested i go to the dealer for warranty repairs. i had a personal mechanic friend of mine look at it also and he said it was strange that the motor mount was broken. he told me that he had a mercedes with the original motor mount in it with 300,000 miles on it. when i called the chrysler dealership they said it was not under warranty. i feel as though i have been very cheated at this point. all three mechanics said it was very strange and that it was a manufacturer default. i am completely fed up with this car of mine and wish i could get rid of it. i have had various other recalls with this car and have had to taken it in for repairs. when these repairs have been done, i have to pay money out of my pocket for these repairs. i do this because i need a car rental for the day so i can commute to work and to my babysitter's home. i lose time from work at my cost of an hourly rate of $16.00 and still spend another $36.00 to $67.00 a day for a car rental. please try to aid me, i would greatly apppreciate it.  view

I put my car in reverse to back out of a parking space. i hit a concrete pole which was located in the parking lot. the accident occurred when i braked to shift from reverse to drive. the car took off leaving black marks 9 feet long. i did not have a chance to hit the accelerator. the car was acting on its own. i hit the front of the store. the only thing that stopped my car was the steel door frame and the brick building. my car was still moving after i got out because i had not put it into park and turned it off. i had jumped out quickly because glass was coming through my sunroof onto me. a witness said "oh my god, your car is still moving." i had to get back into the vehicle to put it into park and turn the ignition off. this proves that the car was getting fuel somewhere besides me. i feel as though the fuel shut off button located in the trunk should have prevented this accident. but it did not work; in fact, i am thinking something malfunctioned and instead of shutting fuel off the car was getting fuel wide open.  view

Purchased the car 7/98 as a demo with 5500 miles with full factory warranty. 1 month later in 8/98, had driven 5100 miles (which included vacation to north carolina) and both front tires showing belts. sent to local tire alignment place for 2 free tires and alignment wheel balancing for all 4 tires. 2 months later (10/98), car is pulling to one side, sometimes the other...tire worn again, replaced tire again after 3,800 miles driven on new tires free of charge. again alignment and balancing completed. have now put an additional 12, 500 miles on these tires, purposely not rotating this time, as i did not want to wear out front, switch to rear and wear front out again in short time. i wanted to see how long it would take to see wear. car shakes badly over 55 mph, also pulls to one side, but switches occasionally and will pull to opposite side. dealer states problem due only to not rotating tires. i strongly disagree as this has been 3 sets of tires ruined in 21,000 miles. several tire alignment reps have stated that they are constantly adjusting alignment to hyundai elantra specifically, including rep who my dealer has sent me to. one in particular stated almost identical problem in very short time with same type of vehicle with another customer. will be getting a second opinion from alignment rep of my choice 4-28-99, but feel car is virtual hazard and anticipate continued problems, even if tires replaced a 4th time. please advise of any suggestions or ideas your department may have regarding my situation. thank you, kim chronister.  view

This car has been taken to the dealer and the dealer recognizes the problem but consistantly refuses to take any rsponsibilities for the junk that they sold me. this car has been to the body shop for repairs on the manufacturer ground effects package the transmission that doesn't work properly the brake system the i have had to have rotors turned and within four months have brand new rotors but on. the sunroof doesn't open properly, the trunk lid hits the bumper when you close it,the engine makes a weird rattle noise when you go over a bump,the doors do not close all the way, ther is tons of rust on the inside walls of my trunk, i was also notified of a recall on the oil consumption valve two weeks after all the oil in my car had leaked out causing my engine to knock on my way home from work (had to put four quarts of oil in it three days from having an oil change, i never received the airbag recall for my vehicle. to wrap this up in a nutshell i will never buy a chevrolet product again i will result to a foriegn car maker (honda) to purchase my next vehicle. nk  view

The speedometer of the car suddenly went all the way to the end, passing the maximum number, 160 mph, but the car was going at only 40 mph. while this happened, the odometer of the car was accelerating like it was going at 160+mph, that is in only one mile, the odometer read like it had travelled 4-5 miles. while this was hapenning, the car could not go more than about 55-60 mph. as soon as the rpm touched 3000, the engine would shut off, and when it got below 3000rpm, it would go back on again. i stopped the car, and started again, and the problem was gone. a few days later, i was going downhill and it happened again. the car was going at 50 mph and the engine shut off, and did not go back on again. while the car was going downhill and speeding up, i was able to start it again. this problem did not happen occasionally. i explained that to open road bmw at 731 us hwy 1 south, edison nj, 08817, tel 732-985-8450, but they said becuse i could not reproduce the problem right there, there was no way they could know what was wrong with the car. the problem became worse more than a year or so later, but still i could not reproduce the problem in front of the dealer. finally, i took a videotape of the problem, and presented it to the dealer. they fixed the problem for me, but they said my car was not under warranty anymore. i kept explaining to them that the actual mileage of the car was much less than what it showed, but they would not change their minds. they said the problem was the instrument cluster.  view

Rear disc brake on driver side rear, extreme wear of rotor because of ford engineering problem. caliper is located on front of rotor, preventing mud, sand and gravel from self cleaning from rotor. caliper acts as trap to hold debris against rotor, causing severe deterioration of rotors, including wear into cooling web and seperation of rotor disk from hub. opposite rotor shows very little wear. also caliper mounted on front of rotor traps gravel between pads and caliper frame, preventing pads from releasing. this brake problem has occurred now three times in less than one year on this 1999 f550, and three times on our 1999 f450. this brake problem is a severe traffic hazard in the fact that the disc pad can wear into the rotor web, and upon application of brakes at high speed could cause the driver side rear wheel to lock, possibly causing a severe lane change into oncoming traffic. disc pads should be mounted on rear of rotor so that forward motion of wheels would enable self cleaning.  view

Vehicle was taken to local gm dealer for its first front end alignment after purchase. service check by dealer found left and right lower a frames and the stablizer links plus both front tires had to be replaced before an alignment could be done. est cost $350. upon investigation when speaking with maintenance personnel i discovered that this is a high failure item. the personel informed me that they replaced these control arms all the time. they know it is a very poor design and causes problems with customers. the service manager informed that there has not been a recall as to date concerning this item. the service manager said he can replace just the bushing , but that would not last but a short time and that i would be back again. i have examined the car myself and i am not impressed with the design of this control arm. i do agree with the service manager that it is a poorly designed control arm and should be recalled for proper redesign and repair.  view

I bought my chevrolet malibu used and have had it about 2 months. days after the 36,000 mile warranty runs out i have major brake problems. replaced front brakes, pads, right rotor and right caliper. every mechanic i've seen is amazed that a car a year old needs a new caliper. called the dealer and they told me they couldn't do anything about it. also had problem with front end rattling noise like the front end is loose or something; dealer did put new control arms on, but noise still persists.  view

Noisy abs; did we and do we have working abs? no help from ford. don davis ford invoice 202541 12/15/97, middlekauff inv. 404267 12/18/97 & 436463 2/2/99, five star inv. c05234 6/2/98 pd for brake fluid flushing with brake job (5star ruined caliper too), karl klement inv. 36021 8/19/98. my husband & i flushed the brakes - looked like dirty motor oil. 3 second whee became a chirp, pd. utter ford inv. c02461 5/19/99 to bleed abs control unit - whee is gone but does our abs work? it's never engaged and don't know if it will. we are also now working with an independent garage to solve our summer stalling out problem.  view

The windshield wipers on my truck will work intermittently and then quit functionin until the truck is turned off for awhile. it has become an extreme hazardous for my family and i to drive in the rain. i own and/or operate two additional gm vehicle that had a safety recall on the windshield wiper motor control board. since i and my stepson bought this truck used, i contacted chevrolet to see if a safety recall had been issued for my 1994 truck. by the described malfunction in the recall it seemed that my 1994 truck had a defective part. i called chevrolet's 1-800 consumer satisfaction number. basically, after many calls and arguments the women i spoke with said that "the recall did apply to the part in my truck, but chevrolet would not pay for the repairs due to the age and mileage of the truck". however, they did say that "there is an open campaign on the brake light switch". i asked them how could the age and milege of the truck eliminate the windshield wiper recall and not the brake light switch recall. they could not answer this. my complaint is that, the two other vehicles that operate that had wiper recalls are not experiencing any problems with the wipers and have been fixed, the one truck that i am experiencing problems with the wipers, chevy will not fix. i have tired numerous time to get through on the telephone and left voice mail messages to return my call at nhtsa and have not gotten a response. your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated.  view
