Seat belt buckle release button broke apart, causing seat belt to become inoperative. dealer notified.  view

When driving at 30mph truck stopped and vehicle went under it, frontal impact, neither air bag deployed, driver was injured. dealer contacted and aware of the problem. police report filed.  view

Consumer will provide vin# at later date. the doors of vehicle have pins that break in half. the driver and passenger side doors cannot be opened from the outside. the sliding door can not be opened from the inside. the pins have either fallen out or broken off. the doors began falling off and breaking in mid-july. all have broken off by august 19, 1998. dealership says there is nothing they can do at this time.  view

Rotors were replaced 3 times/ pads were replaced 4 times, and the calipers have been rebuilt. owner will contact the dealer.  view

Differential assembly failed, causing pieces of internal components to cut through differential housing on transmission case. this is the second occurrence in this vehicle. first caused vehicle to be immobilized immediately in traffic. second and most recent, rendered vehicle unable to move under it's own power, in heavy traffic. also, since transmission case was penetrated in no less than six locations, gear oil was released onto roadway, causing an immediate hazard for other drivers. this problem is well known among other owners of this and similar models. there is speculation among enthusiasts that it is due to the use of rivets instead of bolts to secure the ring gear (crown wheel) in the differential assembly. this is apparantly a cost-cutting measure. volkswagen makes available a kit that includes bolts to replace those rivets. standard vw warranty repair procedure for such a failure calls for replacement of the transmission with a rebuilt unit, but the rebuilt units also use rivets instead of bolts. for this failure, volkswagen of america's district service manager is denying warranty replacement of the transmission because of aftermarket (non-vw) parts installed on the vehicle which are not related to the transmission.  view

We took the car to the dealer to have a transmission line leak fixed (replacement of the line). we alos smelled a gasoline smell when starting the car in the morning. the dealer informed us that there was also a fuel leak in a line on the engine. the delaer told us that the line needed to be replaced or it could cause a fire. we let them have the vehicle and they said it would be fixed in a week. three weeks later we were still without the car; the delaer told us that chrysler was not supplying the original factory part for replacement because the part was apparently being redesigned. we asked why an original factory part could not be installed; they said it could, but that the part might not work and we might risk a fire. chrysler did not charge for the part, but we were out of us of the car for about 3 weeks.  view

The abs braking system malfunctioned, causing the front wheels to lock up, and had no steering and braking ability, and caused 2 frontal crashes. upon impact, driver's airbag did not deploy, and did not protect the occupant in this accident. please provide further information.  view

Whenever driving all of a sudden the engine will shut off. theis has happened three times within ten days. the dealer has changed the fuel pump three times, and the problem still happens.  view

June 3, l999 after taking this truck into the dealer.at this time we were told that it would cost $1100 to repair the oil pan gasket, the rear main, and there were additional ones. the engine was leaking from more than one place. also at this time were informed that ford had redesigned all of the engine seals/gaskets. the service advisor also metioned that there had been numerous problems with the orignal seals/gaskets. i have owned many cars that have gotten to well over 150,000 miles (our honda had 230,000 miles ) will no such leaks!!!! if it had been one seal or gasket maybe i might be ok with it ,but all , and at the tune of$1100 and ford so far not taking any responsibility is beyond me. i purchased american, but unless this is resolved to my satisfaction , next car will be honda. are there any other such cases and or can you help in any way thank you. ak  view

The horn is almost impossible to work in an emergency. you have to hit it in exacly the right spot for it to work with a sizable amount of force. i took it to the dealer thinking it was a problem with my vehicle alone. they said they tested it and it was the same as all other horns. i have almost been involved in several accidents because i have not be able to warn a person moving into my lane because i could not get my horn to work. please look into this issue as i feel it poses a threat of danger to anyone who opperates this vehicle.  view

Displeased with auto transmission, problem #1, when the transmission shifts from 2nd into 3rd gear it will shift with a very uneasy noise ( like the transmission has a problem shifting into 3rd, this will not happen all the time and the truck can be cold or at normal running temperture for the transmission to shift uneasy. the dealer this problem has been on going for years and their are trying to come up with a quick fix to fix this issue without having to replace my transmission, they did tell me that gm has already replace and rebuilt alot of transmission in the united states for this problem. i have been told by the sales rep. that sold me the truck that he has a flyer from gm with a statment just to the dealer's about this problem. problem #2 while driving the truck between 41 to 45 mph the truck will shake cause from the transmission and engine not working together, i went to my local chevrolet dealer and had there service garage drive the truck and he said this was cause from the engine running a 1000 rpm while driving between 41 to 45 mph and if i didn't like the shaking of the truck, to drive it in 3rd gear and not overdrive so to allow the engine to run at a higher rpm. i paid almost $30,000.00 for this truck, i feel as if i been burnt gm and the term "let a rock" means let a rock like "nogo"  view

Headlight covers are plastic. they were transluscent to begin with, but turn opague with age. this is normal for regular plastics, but should not happen with good optical plastics. process cuts down amount of light shining through headlamp onto road, lessens lighting distance and intensity. dangerous whether low beams needed because of oncoming traffic or high beams needed on windy roads or higher speeds where line of sight needed is beyond lessened lighting distance due to opaque lenses. no response from mfr on prior letter.  view

Tie rod ends lock nut. the locking nut is .19 inch from locking position on the drivers side and the lock nut on the passenger side is .312 from locking. driving the vehicle in this condition will in time cause alignment problems first,and lead to separation of components ,causing loss of steering. this vehicle came from the factory in this condition. mileage was 40 when left the dealer. has 49 miles on it now. it is scheduled to be picked up by the dealer on 4-june-1999, and repaired. manufacturer has not been contacted yet.  view

Consumer has taken vehicle to dealership six times for same problem. there is a grinding noise whenever applying brakes, if braking under 15 mph the noise will be very low, but noticeable. also the noise will progress as the day go on. driving at higher speeds the noise sounds like a bag of bolts. dealer changed brake pads twice, sand them, grind down the rotors, called gm technichian and the problem still exists. consumer is leasing vehicle and would like to speak to an engineer as soon as possible.  view
