Consumer drove approximately 400 miles, when vehicle began to vibrate. took vehicle to dealership grinded down the drums, and vehicle had a little less vibration. may of 96 at 5,500 miles, dealership replaced drums and linings, at 33,000 miles vehicle began to pull heavily to the right, freightliner dealership again replaced drums and linings. at this point vehicle was undrivable. the shimmying was out of control. lining was replaced three times in this period of being at dealer for more than 35 days.  view

Problem seems to start with the transmission clunking then eventually you will start to hear a popping noise in your front end, coming from the tie rod. thought this was a suspension problem but took to dealer the first time and they replaced my brakes and serviced transmission. cluncking noise still existed when you let off the gas and the slightly accellerated. turns out the tie rod, transmission mount and axle were to blame. can't tell you about the axle as they told me they would replace but did not show up on repair. i know that there seems to be serious problem with the drive train and suspension in the car. as for the dip stick, the heat created by the engine is cooking the plastic in the colored dipstick to the point it just falls apart. i recently had the tie rod and transmission mount replaced and now have a much worse cluncking noise the same day of the replacement...can i get some help as i feel this car is a serious problem waiting to happen..  view

While driving on wet pavement at 35-40 mph, vehicle accelerated by itself, brakes applied, would not disengage, cruise control went on by itself. driver turned it off and applied brakes again, foot applied to gas, nothing happened, drove for one mile trying to slow down, approached turn lane with foot on brake, turned wheel, vehicle still would not disengage. when approaching left turn lane, tried to apply brakes more firmly. the right passenger tire lifted up over the curb and took vehicle into southbound traffic. upon approaching a 4-lane highway, turned wheel to the right, and vehicle went ove rgrassie medium. driver applied brakes again, but vehicle still wouldn't stop. drive rpushe ddoor open, released seat belt and pushed herself out of the vehicle. vehicle was totalled. driver sustaine dinjuries.  view

This is in re: to a vibration issue which has been ongoing since before my vehicle reached 11,000 miles. i have given no less than 25 opportunities to 2 ford dealers, and thier representatives, and have gotten no more than a "no problem found" or "this is a tire issue" (or the 2 technicians who stated the obvious "i have no idea..." one stated, " if you find out what it is, let us know, all right?". i have since the last dealer visit, and subsequent ford motor company customer service center calls, taken my truck to 3 different auto repair shops. 3 of 3 said it was drive train related. 2 of 3 said it was the driveshaft or attached componentry. patterson driveshafts in indianapolis rebalanced and trued the drive shaft and 50% of the vibration problems were immediately done away with, (this was in one day, first visit). one ford dealer service shop asserted they had replaced the driveshaft on one of the service calls. but this is only something written on a receipt to me, since this particular service call seemed to do little, if anything for the problem. i called ford c.s.d. to ask how this can be that an "outside" service company could find this problem cause with seemingly little effort. i was told by the fmc rep. that we(ford)do not recognize the 'opinion' of outside contractors, relative to repairs". (i have since been told that patterson driveshaft is one of ford's most used driveshaft contractor/technicians), they know from whence they speak. then recently, i heard from a friend about your website, (i had called once several months ago). this is great! i can see no less than 3 tsb's on my particular issue, and some more complaints that i've voiced to ford ("no problem found"), i see are listed too. now if i only knew what to do from here. i have paid for further diagnostics, and been told that this may take upwards of 16 hours @ $78.00 per hour to pinpoint the last of the vib. problems(though the vibration now feels more prevalant (please contact me fmi).  view

This is a leased car i have had since november 1998. i drive with an accelerator adapter that allows me to use my left foot. this is the third car in which i have used such an adapter and have never had any problems. neither did i have trouble with this car until may 1999. in may i had three incidents of sudden and unexpected accleration while slowly backing out of a driveway or a parking space in a lot. with each incident it was increasingly more difficult to stop. the first time firm pressure on the brake finally stopped it and i could shift into drive and stop. in the second the car finally stalled out after bucking and roaring as i literally stood on the brake while pulling on the steering wheel for more pressure. this was after backing almost the length of a 200 foot driveway which ends in a busy street. in the third incident the car finally stopped after ramming a van and moving its back end 2 feet from where it was parked and bouncing off a second van after which my car spun around full circle and finally stalled out. after the first incident i had checked the adapter and everything was ok. i intended to take the car in for service the following week and thought i'd tell them what happened at that time. but the second incident happened the following saturday and the third the tuesday after that. i was told by the shop that fixed the car that there is nothing wrong with it but they did not get a gm engineer to check it as my insurance company suggested. harold chevrolet now has the car and are trying to replicate the problem. i do not want the car back and i want to get out of the lease before the car kills someone. not only was the result worse each time this happened but the time between decreased with each incident.  view

This was a nhtsa campaign #95v246000. the dealer i took the truck to for the recall fixed the drivers seat at i believe 60000 miles. i don't think they did anything to the passenger's seat. since the dealer's repair i have had to replace the bolts again on the drivers seat, the dealer said gm was not responsible for doing the repair a second time. now at 123,000 miles the passengers seat bolts have failed. the dealer claims that the repair was performed before and offers no relief. repairs have been defective or seat would not be broken again. thank you for any help you might provide.  view

I had changed the oil in my mitsubishi on 12/20/98 and on 1/7/99 while driving, with cruise control on, my car sounded a knock and completely stopped. i had the car towed to freehold mitsubishi, and the service manager has told me that he visually detected that i had used an oil filter that was for the turbo model of the eclipse. he told me that because i had used the wrong filter which has the wrong threading for my car. mitsubishi is not covering this under warranty. i have had a mechanic look at the two types of filters for this vehicle and there does not show any difference in the threading on either of them. the vehicle is only 2 months old and i have not been given any proof from mitsubishi that using an oil filter, made for the car with the same specifications for turbo and non-turbo, could possibly be the cause of breaking a connecting rod. what is my warranty for? there could be something wrong with the engine. i have paid in full for this car. i can not afford repairs. they have gotten th  view

The problem lies with the hydraullic rods that hold up the hood for any kind of maintenance. i was told by a dealer these often fail under cold conditions, but when weather warms, the rods will work again. this failure is totally unexpected. the rods show no leak and appear to be without problems. as i raised the hood on my maxima, never having experienced this problem before, i reached in to begin my interior inspection when the hood dropped striking my head, but allowing me to remove my hands before the hood slammed down. if it had not struck my head and forced me back, i would have broken or severed several fingers. this is a safety issue. the nissan company has opened a file on my complaint. the file number is 2766755. the car is only 31/2 years old. i have never experienced this type of failure in my others cars. nissan agreed to compensate for 1/2 of the replacement cost, but i believe this is a material defect that has safety implications so that it why i am reporting this.  view

Whenever the steering wheelis turned it makes a loud screeching grinding noise, and it has gotten progressively worst with time.a ford dealer told me the upper steering rod arms were bad . this is unbelieveable as the car only had i3000 miles on it ,the dealer further stated that he couldnt grease the part because it was a sealed unit and came from the manufacturer greased .well my contention is that if this part comes from the manufacturer greased and sealed the one i got is a faulty product because upper steering rod arms should never go bad after only 13000 miles of operation of the vehicle. i tried to get someone at ford motor company to talk with me about this problem, but all i got was a run around from the dealer to the ford motor company .no one would address the problem.i would like to add here that there is a safety problem here with severe possibility of an accident occurring because the steering mal functions because of the upper steering rod arms.  view

Differential assembly failed, causing pieces of internal components to cut through differential housing on transmission case. this is the second occurrence in this vehicle. first caused vehicle to be immobilized immediately in traffic. second and most recent, rendered vehicle unable to move under it's own power, in heavy traffic. also, since transmission case was penetrated in no less than six locations, gear oil was released onto roadway, causing an immediate hazard for other drivers. this problem is well known among other owners of this and similar models. there is speculation among enthusiasts that it is due to the use of rivets instead of bolts to secure the ring gear (crown wheel) in the differential assembly. this is apparantly a cost-cutting measure. volkswagen makes available a kit that includes bolts to replace those rivets. standard vw warranty repair procedure for such a failure calls for replacement of the transmission with a rebuilt unit, but the rebuilt units also use rivets instead of bolts. for this failure, volkswagen of america's district service manager is denying warranty replacement of the transmission because of aftermarket (non-vw) parts installed on the vehicle which are not related to the transmission.  view

We took the car to the dealer to have a transmission line leak fixed (replacement of the line). we alos smelled a gasoline smell when starting the car in the morning. the dealer informed us that there was also a fuel leak in a line on the engine. the delaer told us that the line needed to be replaced or it could cause a fire. we let them have the vehicle and they said it would be fixed in a week. three weeks later we were still without the car; the delaer told us that chrysler was not supplying the original factory part for replacement because the part was apparently being redesigned. we asked why an original factory part could not be installed; they said it could, but that the part might not work and we might risk a fire. chrysler did not charge for the part, but we were out of us of the car for about 3 weeks.  view

June 3, l999 after taking this truck into the dealer.at this time we were told that it would cost $1100 to repair the oil pan gasket, the rear main, and there were additional ones. the engine was leaking from more than one place. also at this time were informed that ford had redesigned all of the engine seals/gaskets. the service advisor also metioned that there had been numerous problems with the orignal seals/gaskets. i have owned many cars that have gotten to well over 150,000 miles (our honda had 230,000 miles ) will no such leaks!!!! if it had been one seal or gasket maybe i might be ok with it ,but all , and at the tune of$1100 and ford so far not taking any responsibility is beyond me. i purchased american, but unless this is resolved to my satisfaction , next car will be honda. are there any other such cases and or can you help in any way thank you. ak  view

The horn is almost impossible to work in an emergency. you have to hit it in exacly the right spot for it to work with a sizable amount of force. i took it to the dealer thinking it was a problem with my vehicle alone. they said they tested it and it was the same as all other horns. i have almost been involved in several accidents because i have not be able to warn a person moving into my lane because i could not get my horn to work. please look into this issue as i feel it poses a threat of danger to anyone who opperates this vehicle.  view

Displeased with auto transmission, problem #1, when the transmission shifts from 2nd into 3rd gear it will shift with a very uneasy noise ( like the transmission has a problem shifting into 3rd, this will not happen all the time and the truck can be cold or at normal running temperture for the transmission to shift uneasy. the dealer this problem has been on going for years and their are trying to come up with a quick fix to fix this issue without having to replace my transmission, they did tell me that gm has already replace and rebuilt alot of transmission in the united states for this problem. i have been told by the sales rep. that sold me the truck that he has a flyer from gm with a statment just to the dealer's about this problem. problem #2 while driving the truck between 41 to 45 mph the truck will shake cause from the transmission and engine not working together, i went to my local chevrolet dealer and had there service garage drive the truck and he said this was cause from the engine running a 1000 rpm while driving between 41 to 45 mph and if i didn't like the shaking of the truck, to drive it in 3rd gear and not overdrive so to allow the engine to run at a higher rpm. i paid almost $30,000.00 for this truck, i feel as if i been burnt gm and the term "let a rock" means let a rock like "nogo"  view
