1991 MERCURY CAPRI User Comment / Complaint

Front windshield wipers come on without activating them. in addition, bench passenger seatbelt disconnects when buckled; brakes wore out when the car had 32,000 miles; left front tire blew out on the freeway at 7,000; transmission overhauled at 44,000 miles; passenger's sliding door locks do not open when unlocked, and gas tank was leaking.  view

Electrical short in the ignition switch, causing the vehicle to catch on fire in the steering column (the vehicle was in the off position).  view

Roof rack separates at times. in february 98, consumer was driving approximately 50-55mph with snow boards tied down to roof racks, when the racks disconected. dealership replaced the racks and the snow boards, this happened a second time, dec. 13-98 snow boards were on the roof of vehicle and flew off when the roof racks disconnected. consumer took vehicle to dealership (503-656-2924, alberto mechanic and service manager larry lindsey told consumer that the racks were installed incorectly, but they will not replace.  view

Vehicle hit a bump in the road at 15mph and the driver's and passenger's side airbags deployed. also the brakes went out, and the steering locked up. driver has burns on her arm and a sprained wrist.  view

Vehicle caught on fire for no apparent reason while parked in the driveway. vehicle was parked for about 3 hours before fire started. fire inspector stated that fire was electrical related. the vehicle was totalled.  view

Vehicle hit a drain in the yard at 5 mph and both frontal airbags deployed. dealer can't find reason for problem. driver sustained injuries. mechanic wrote there was no damage to the front or rear of the vehicle to make the air bags deploy.  view

Intermittently when slowing down the vehicle stalls and dies, resulting in loss of vehicle control. the dealer has repaired the vehicle, but the problem stills exists. dealer reset throttle position adaption and replaced the idle stabilizer valve, stalling has not occurred anymore.  view

Consumer has received a recall notice for the ignition switch for motorcycle. owner has contatced the dealer and manufacturer on 03-aug-98 . recall has not been repaired.  view
