Volkswagen has announced that they will be recalling certain models of the 2009 Passat, Passat Wagon, and Passat CC vehicles. Some vehicles may have electromechanical steering gear control unit that can malfunction due to a damaged capacitor. If this malfunction occurs, the drivers steering input is not properly processed by the system and the vehicle may not respond as the driver intends. The defect can only occur immediately after vehicle start up when the steering wheel is moved for the first time and at speeds less than 5 MPH.

These vehicles have an engine control module (ECM) containing software that may not properly control engine idle with the air conditioning turned on. Volkswagen AG’s Shanghai venture began recalling 2,440 Passat sedans from last Thursday, following the approval of Volkswagen’s recall application by the State General Administration of Quality Supervision. The reason for the recall was due to the discovery of some problems present in the automatic locking systems

German auto giant Volkswagen on Friday said it was recalling 2,440 Passat model cars produced in Shanghai because of faults in the boot-locking system.
The faulty locking systems were installed in Passat 2.0 and 1.8T models manufactured from August 11 to August 24
