In June 2007 a recall for thousands of Chinese Tires was ordered by The national Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) for Foreign Tire Sales Inc., due to some 450,000 steel-belted radial tires being defective. The recall was issued after it was discovered that the tires lacked a key safety feature known as a “gum Strip” which gives the tire added durability. Some of the brand names associated with the recall include Telluride, Compass, Westlake, and YKS.
